Do NOT come to this place for alternations. I came with a wrap dress that I needed hemmed for a wedding that I was going to. I brought the shoes I would be wearing for it and the owner and I agreed upon a length about 1 inch off the floor so it wouldn't touch the ground. She was pretty curt on the phone but I didn't think much of it. I came 2 weeks later to pick the dress up and when I got home and tried it on, not only was it too long and dragging on the floor so I couldn't walk in it, but it was also visibly uneven. So much so that my roommate instantly noticed it when I tried it on. I called and the owner insisted that I come back to show her the problems, so I did so. What followed was one of the worst experiences of my life. The instant I got there and explained my issues with the hemming, she began yelling at me. Literally screaming for 20 minutes straight as she argued with me that I told her the wrong length and that the unevenness was a factory defect, not her fault. She also claimed that no one had ever complained before, which I seriously can't believe. I can't express enough that she was literally yelling at me. I paid $90 for this hemming job. Once she seemed to lose her patience, she started asking me if I didn't understand her English. My parents are first generation immigrants. I grew up with "broken" English. The fact that she would start accusing me of not understanding her English and yelling at me instead of acknowledging her mistake really shows that she doesn't care about her customers. She also tried to guilt me, saying that my dress had a ton of fabric and it was so difficult to hem. Again, I paid $90 for this, presumably because it was so much yardage. She offered to fix it for extra cost but why would I agree to that. Again, I paid $90 for just hemming, not to mention was yelled at. Overall a horrible experience and I would never come here again. Edit: The employee's son called me and asked if he could do anything to make this up to me. He was very nice and apologetic but again only offered a rehem for 50% of the original cost, which I was not comfortable with taking due to the quality of the initial hem. It's great that they are a family-run business but I would still not return. read more

Best patching for jeans I've ever seen. I always rip my jeans in the same place, and I always get them patched. At first I was a little surprised by the price, which I thought was high. 2 stars because poor customer service. Business owner yelled at me when I asked for a quote and even more yelled at me when I asked if I could have her see me wear the pants I brought to be hemmed before I paid. She insisted I pay in full before she would pin the pant legs because reportedly some people in the past have left before without paying. I was close to leaving but didn't want to go through the ordeal of going somewhere else. For a simple hemming, she was asking for 12 days to complete the job which I was able to ask for 10 days instead since I needed the pants earlier for a wedding. She finished it after 9 days but I had to call to ask if they were done. The pants looks fine afterwards, I would have maybe wanted to get them tapered as well but I will do this with a different tailor who does not make me pay prior to pinning of pants. read more

I just recently moved to the area and decided to give Big W a try. Usually when I go to a dry cleaning place, i don't experience the best customer service, but Big W was great and exceeded my expectations. There is new ownership and the customer service was super friendly. Dry cleaning for all my clothes looked, smelled and felt great. In addition, I had a few difficult/complex alterations done and they were exceptionally done. There is a parking lot, which is convenient in Seattle and the work was done very quickly. I would highly recommend going here if you are looking for a new dry cleaners or are not totally satisfied with your current place! read more

Had them do simple sewing jobs and they did great sewing my jacket sleeve back and a ribbon on my top. Simple work with a bit of a pricey price, but I got a good result. Came back to shorten my prom dress which i spent quite a lot of money on. Price was quite cheap. Sadly, a very messy job. Although I must admit, they do their jobs fast, and I might have received a result based on the price they gave me. Definitely go here if you are in a hurry, but go somewhere else if you really value the item you want to alter. read more

I've been going to Big W for years. I originally found them because they're not too far from where I live and also they don't use perc in their cleaning, and I was specifically looking for a cleaner that did not. Also, there is easy parking right in front. I'm not sure where they sit on price-competitiveness as I've not shopped around in awhile. Plus they don't make their prices obvious because when you get your receipt back it just shows the items but not the prices (they keep the list that has the prices), so I just hand them my credit card obliviously (they don't take checks). Anyway, as I said, I've been going here for several years, which is in fact probably the best endorsement, as they're the fourth dry cleaners I've used since moving to Seattle (the previous three managed to mess something up for me). They've never messed anything up. Mainly I use them for dry cleaning but on occasion I've had them do some minor alterations for me. I agree with other reviewers that the husband is rather brusk. The wife is very friendly. I haven't quite figured out a consistent time that the wife is there and the husband isn't so that I can avoid having to deal with him! read more

Prompt service! I tested them out after new management took over with a small alteration (add a snap on a dress) and dry cleaning of two pairs of pants. They have average to higher prices, but accomodated my turnaround request of 3 days. Will definitely be coming back with other cleaning and trying out more alterations! read more

I needed to get 2 dresses altered for a wedding and this was closest to where I lived PRICE: they charged me $112 to alter 2 dresses (hemmed at the bottom and sides) and to dry clean them both. I think it's OVER- priced, but it's the only place I could get it done quickly. QUALITY: the hemming looked fine, a little on the sloppy sides, but good enough to wear to a wedding TIME: it took them nearly 2 weeks to get everything done SERVICE: the korean lady (owner I think) was very nice. Customer service by the male owner is atrocious. Female owner always nice and helpful. Turnaround time is fantastic. Prices are reasonable but none of that makes up for poor service. I had an issue with two shirts they cleaned, in which I was told stains were easily removed (by wife). Returned after I had examined them to put away and stains were still present. Returning asking for a refund - husband essentially shooed me out of shop. No refunds, no refunds, no refunds he shouted! I'd drive out of the way to find a better place. read more

I had never come here and then chose to give it a try after reading all these good reviews. Now it turned out to be the best joke ever. The lady at the counter was really nice and friendly when I drop off my clothes, which made me have a good feeling about this cleaner at the first place. However, when I picked up, only her husband was there and his service destroyed all the good impression I got on this place. I took two dresses there, one for some needleworks and one for dry cleaning. It turned out that both jobs were done poorly so I asked him if he could fix them. He became really rude and asked me to talk to his wife. I said if I can just leave my clothes here so they can redo those works, since I don't want to waste my time by coming back and forth for those little things. That was the moment he started to go crazy. He said he could refund me for the money spent on the needlework and then I should never come back. This is FUNNY. Who cares about the money? People came here hoping to get the work done, not to scam you. Anyway, I chose to leave with my clothes cause I'm not sure what he will do to them then. I've never used dry cleaning service before, but I needed to clean several stains from a silk dress I was going to wear in a couple days. I was kind of worried because there are some horror stories I've read on Yelp about dry cleaners in the University District area, but I took a chance and went with Big W Cleaners. The location is excellent. It's super close to the University Village area and literally across the street from Nordheim Court. There is also free parking. When I first walked in, the lady at the counter was very pleasant. It has a family-run store feel, and I like that. I didn't want my clothes shipped to some cleaning plant elsewhere, like I heard Bakker's does. It was no problem to get my dress cleaned in 3 days. There was no extra charge for changing to an earlier pick up time either. When I went to pick up my dress, the same lady was just as friendly as the first time. Dry cleaning my silk dress cost $15 ($16.43 after tax). I think this price is reasonable/comparable to others, and my dress looks like new! I will definitely be coming back in the future. read more

I love this little dry cleaner store. I take my hubby's suits there probably every other week and they always come back immaculate and well pressed - like new. However- what makes this place really special is Hannah the owner/front desk lady. From the beginning she always made me feel like I was an old favorite customer and gave me a little (expired) coupon sheet and told me I could keep reusing it. *Even Better* sometimes I forget the coupon and she still gives me the discount if I ask. Also- when dropping off clothes she will offer you the standard couple of days pick up- but if you really need it she will do next day at no extra charge. read more

I was starting to get really worried that I couldn't find a decent place to get a cocktail dress altered before my going away party (goodbye Seattle!)--I had been reading reviews of places that took weeks rather than days, screwed up easy alterations, etc...so after a week of reading horror-story reviews, I decided to try Big W because it was on my way home from work. I walked in after work (they're open 'til 7, which is great!), and the gal there asked me to try on the dress. She stuck a few pins in the sides, and told me it would be done on Friday (less than a week!), and it would be $30. I didn't believe it would be that easy, nor than inexpensive! I still had reservations when I picked up my dress, but I tried it on and it fits so much better than before! I will definitely bring more clothing back here to get altered. read more

Read the positive reviews and gave it a try. I bought a suit and needed it altered in time for a business workshop. The owner was very kind and assured me it would be ready in time. She was quick but precise with her measurements and I was out of there in no more than 5 minutes. Just picked up the suit today and couldn't be happier with how it fits. Expect to pay $20-$30 per article of clothing you want altered. Haven't used them for dry cleaning yet but I plan to. read more

Cleaning was ok but the alterations were sloppy. Sloppy to the point of tearing holes in pants when pulling the stitches out and using thread of a different color to stitch them back up. read more

I went to Clara's because my name is Clara, which I realize is completely silly. But I've been back several times to have my husband's dress pants and shirts repaired and cleaned. She has always done a wonderful job for a very reasonable price. Last time, she repaired 2 pairs of pants and a shirt and dry cleaned these items as well. It took a week and only cost me $22, which seems like a bargain. Make sure you bring cash or a check though--she doesn't take cards. read more

I read some reviews and needed to get a number of pants hemmed. These were all basic hems -- no linings, etc. I asked how much before I dropped of the pants and I thought she said "$6", which seemed like a great price and appropriate since I had already pinned the hems. But when I dropped the pants off, I was charged "$16". While the mistake of not understanding her strong accent was my fault, 16bucks for such a basic hem job was highway robbery in my mind. Do not use this place for alterations!! I chose to get a bridesmaid dress altered at Big W based on the positive recommendations on Yelp, but I had a VERY different experience. I took my dress in to have it taken in - I was a little shocked at the $100 they charged me to take in the seams on a simple strapless dress but figured if they did a good job, it would be worth it. Once I got it back, I made the mistake of not trying it on until the day before the out-of-town wedding. Not only did it not fit (I had to take it to a seamstress in the town where the wedding was held at the very last minute to fix it), but Big W had taken in the outer layer of the dress only, leaving the lining to bunch up inside the now smaller dress, and had sewn the dress back together leaving jagged and mismatched seams under the arms. The seamstress who fixed the botched dress told me she had never seen sloppier work - and she was dismayed that I paid $100 for what she said should have been no more than a $20 job based on the amount of time it would take to produce such a sloppy end product. To top it all off, when I went back to the store to explain what had happened and ask to be reimbursed for the second alteration to 'fix' the dress, I was treated extremely rudely - no apology, no money back. All in all, I had a TERRIBLE experience with Big W. read more

This place was a huge disappointment. I dropped some shirts off for basic tailoring. The lady who works there was very nice and pleasant. She quoted me a very fair price for the work, and a reasonable timeline. I felt great about getting my clothes altered there. However, when I went to pick up the shirts, I had a far different experience. She was not at the counter, her husband was. He has the most awful attitude I have ever seen from someone in a customer service business. I asked him a couple of questions about the work on the shirts, and he was exceptionally rude. He immediately started yelling and pounding his fist on the counter...I couldn't believe it. He was standing there having a meltdown for no reason. At that point, his wife came out from the back and he stormed off. She was very nice and answered my questions. I paid for the shirts and left, but I will never go back. The work quality is decent, but the service (if he is there) is abysmal. If good service is important to you, do not go to this place. read more
