My favorite Plato's Closet in the DMV area with many high luxury quality brands. I saw a lot Kate Spade purses and other high luxury brands like Gucci. Don't expect low price thrift shop prices for mint new or good condition high quality items here. They are fairly priced yet a fraction of the price even when they are new and have price tags attached to them. Staff is professional and fair in pricing & consigning items. This is one of the cleanest, most organized, and amicable Plato Closets I have been to honestly. The store is located conveniently in an outdoor shopping center with a huge parking spot. read more

This store is a gem if you're looking for like-new, high-end clothing and accessory brands at discount prices. The selection is amazing--lots of clothes (plus shoes and purses) in cross-generational brands such as Lululemon, Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, in addition to popular brands among teens and twenty-somethings such as Free People, Polly Princess, Brandy Melville, John Galt, and more. I suspect that the negative reviews I see are from people who are angry that the store rejected the clothes they were hoping to resell but didn't pay attention to the store's criteria--that clothes must be in excellent condition and be styles and brands that the store's customers will buy. If you're selling your used clothes, you need to recognize that it's a small business that needs to survive by being selective about its inventory. I say this because I've seen a few such sellers complaining as they left the store as if they felt the store was unfairly rejecting their bags of old clothes. Gotta say that the staff seem really nice, too, as I heard them trying to explain what they buy or didn't buy. I am absolutely baffled by all the negative reviews I've seen on Yelp and Google Reviews! This Plato's Closet location is by far my favorite in Northern Virginia. I went in three times to sell my clothes before writing this review, and I made a good amount of money every time I did. In my defense, I did bring in good brands (e.g., Lululemon, Uniqlo, etc.) and I take excellent care of my clothing, but they took some items that the other Plato's locations would not take. Also, the employees were always happy to answer any of my questions. I will only be selling my clothes at this location, and I highly recommend checking it out! read more

I've been to a lot of Plato's locations and this one is the best one I've found. It has the best brands, most new with tags items, good shoes, and friendly staff. I have had a good experience selling here as well. The LuLuLemon section is huge! Some of my best finds are 2 pairs of $30 BNWT LuLu shorts, new-looking Altar'd State jeans for around $15, and several BNWT Target/other brand items. Very frustrating experience I called ahead of time to make sure that they were paying for items today I arrived at 5:26 PM checked in my items strolled around the store for about 20 minutes. Went out about 5:45 PM. Made a phone call. I was monitoring the status of the queue. The entire time status was in queue waiting to be looked at and then immediately at 6:01 sorry we cannot make an offer for your items. I had a basket full of very nice jackets men's clothes men's pants some stuff not even worn unfortunately I had a sweater on the top. That was almost new, but had a small sharpie spot that I didn't see because it was a navy sweater as well as I had a bag with several brand new pairs of shoes, brand new pair of hiking boots, brand, new flip-flops, brand, new hat, brand, new ravens jacket, and was told they cannot make an offer on any of my items because they said that the items were staying, but they obviously did not even go through the items. The items were exactly how I had stacked them not have been misplaced, except for the top two jackets of the pile they did not even go through the bag with the shoes wasted my time 40 minutes driving 40 minutes waiting and now 40 minutes driving home and didn't even look at my stuff. Why do you guys even offer the service if you guys are going to treat customers like that and just check out at 6 PM why not say if you're gonna stop at 6 PM say last check in at 5 PM or whatever time it's not right to be playing with people's time like that especially if they're depending on small amount of Money for selling their clothes and they have to waste their gas in time to make that effort read more

I stopped in here quickly to purchase some affordable earrings for work. As far as value, you can find some nice designer bags at a fraction of the price and decent prices on named brand workout clothes. Most of the other clothes are priced a bit high. You could literally purchase something brand new for the same price. My only issue today was that I was speaking with the young lady at the desk asking what type of clothes they were looking to take in this month. She said everything. I mentioned bringing clothes previously and not much was purchased if anything. She tells me that's because they cater to teens. I was rubbed the wrong way by that comment. I felt maybe I was being sensitive but I asked a few of my friends and they had the same reaction. First of all, she didn't see what I brought in, and a few times I brought in clothes from my niece who is a teen. However, as far as I know Plato's closet caters to EVERYONE. I mean, no matter what age you are, doesn't 80% of the female population wear leggings and workout clothes? If you're in your 20s 30s 40s or 50s+ and you are a size 8.... Wouldn't buy that size 8 if you liked it and it was your style? Many older women follow trends and trust me, many teens dress like they are in their 30s. I'd recommend not making those type of statements and to have training on this topic. You don't want to deter older customers from shopping there. Came to sell clothes and they refused them because I had them in a big plastic bag. They just shrugged and said we can't take them because the bag rips easily which is fine but they didn't offer help. They had boxes I could use but they said no go buy some at TJ max. I actually like shopping here but selling here sucks. Was told and estimate of 45 minutes. Waited for 2 hours . We had other things to do aswell so it really was super inconsiderate. When I brought it up the lady just said oh we got busy. I wish they would've called us and let us know so we could've gotten some other stuff done. Also stuff is priced high here. I've been shopping here since they first opened and would usually leave with a few nice things. However today, and for the past few visits, I walked out empty handed. The prices have gone up significantly yet the quality has stayed the same. They wanted $14 for an obviously worn Champion sweatshirt - you know the brand they sell at Walmart? The staff there are a bit snobby and act as though they are working at a high end boutique; there's rarely a friendly greeting or smile from anyone. Get over yourselves, it's a thrift store. The store was organized pretty well but extremely cluttered, and pretty overpriced for a consignment shop (in my opinion). I saw a pair of average Nikes that had clearly been worn several times and were being sold for $39... I also brought a ton of clothes, that they had on their "what we need" sign, some with tags still on, and they only purchased one pair of jeans for $2. DO NOT spend your time here- they do not respect it. I am a frequent plato's seller in multiple states, and I have never received the lack of respect & care for my time as I did here. I went to plato's closet today to sell my clothes after my spring cleaning. I called ahead to ensure they were taking clothes today, to which they said yes. I asked how long it would be and they told me 1 hour, an hour and a half MAX. I drove 35 minutes, dropped my clothes off at 2:40pm, and asked once again how long it would be- "an hour long, maybe an hour and a half". I told them I lived 40 minutes away which means it would take me that long to drive there and back, so the worker agreed when I said 'I might as well stay in Dulles', and once again states it would be done in 1.5hrs max. 2 hours and 15 minutes later, after walking around platos for 45 minutes waiting politely, I asked her how much longer. She told me that she had sorted my clothes, but the manager who prices them had left and hadn't finished. I told her I work as a nurse and can't come until Friday, so she called her manager. She then told me that I could not leave my clothes in the store, she could not pay me out the stuff the manager had already priced, and I had to take everything home and come back another day. I have now lost 4 hours of my only day off this week due to the fact that I was told it would be one hour, told it would be okay if I stayed around the area, and the manager somehow decided it was okay to leave the (most likely underage) worker alone who had no ability of pricing the items in the middle of the workday. I was told to come back "early in the morning" if I wanted to be paid out, or to try again another day altogether. The customer service I received was appalling. There were plenty of bags there that had not been settled at all, and no one was on site to price the items even though the workers told us we would HAVE to pick up the items before 9pm that night? I am now 4 hours out of time, no money, and no availability to bring back the items. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLATOS. read more

Plato's Closet is a great place to sell used clothes; while making a few extra dollars for a little bit of your time. While I have visited multiple locations, the Dulles store stands out. Although this is not the closest Plato's to me, it is worth the extra drive time. This store is clean and orderly with a vast offering of merchandise. It's consistent with hours, policies and the buying process. The Staff is friendly and efficient, making selling so easy. After checking in, you're kept up to date with texts alerts and ready for pick up in a timely manor. Next time you need to do a closet clean out, I highly recommend the Dulles store. Can't say enough bad things - rude staff, awfully dirty, poor selection... do not waste your time

the store has cute clothes but their buying process sucked. I brought in a large box of gently used/unused name brand items, and not only did they not take a single item, but they made me wait 8 HOURS before I could pick my box up, and notified me only 30 minutes before they closed, so I had to drop everything because they said they would not hold the clothes for me after their closing. Came here to sell clothes. Drove over a hour to get here as it's the closest to where I live. I had a lot of designer clothing. I had called earlier in the week to see if they were taking clothes and was told they were. Got to the store and the associate said the owner said they can not take clothes to buy that day. This place is a joke. Most of the clothes are dirty and worn out threads from your garden variety teen retailers. The occasional designer find is usually fake. Embarrassingly fake; it would seem their employees have no idea what they are looking at. A pair of "True Religion" jeans had sloppy, failing stitching and tags that read "Made in Hong Kong". Very odd for a company that makes their jeans in the U.S. If it was a thrift store, I wouldn't care about the fakes. But this is a for-profit consignment shop. They are buying clothing and accessories from the public that they in turn sell to the public. If the employees simply don't know how to authenticate the merchandise they purchase, fair enough; but they should be trained how to do so. It's bad for the store's reputation and unfair to its customers. If they are indifferent or willfully buying and selling counterfeit goods, that is seriously uncool and very illegal. This place is Trashy, Unorganized, Sloppy, Dirty, and a Real Disgrace!! I had been in here a few years back and things have gone downhill since then! The people were Not friendly. Only 1 person seemed to know what to do in the store. I had brought in 3 bags of items to sell and ONLY sold one new shirt for $1.80. I had Coach shoes, new tennis shoes, jeans, sweaters and more. How they decide what to buy is beyond me!! There doesn't seem to be any consistency. Going here was a complete waste of my time, gas and energy. I saw things on the floor and spread out all over the counter. I'm sorry if people don't like my opinion. This was just what I experienced there and that's what yelp is about. Additionally, when is it at all appropriate for an employee to step in and send messages to someone when the issue needs to be worked out by the store owner? It just demonstrates what an unprofessional business this is. It's ridiculous. In response to what the owner said - I'd like to clear some things up. I received good service from a guy that I went up to myself to ask to get something for me. At no time did anyone from behind the counter physically GET UP to ask anyone for help. I walked to the back and did it myself so I'd like to see the "footage" of anyone lifting a finger from behind the counter. I also don't like how a private email that was forwarded to the owner was brought up in a Yelp response. As I said before and will say again - what kind of business is this? Also, the random message from an employee mocking my message? I don't need to be harassed about an opinion nor do I want to shop somewhere that people come after you for stating how YOU felt about something. Additionally, I'd like to point out that the owner wasn't ACTUALLY there on the day I reviewed her store. She says the video shows her staff being very accommodating, but was she ACTUALLY there to see? If you don't like my opinion that's fine, but don't tell me how to feel about my experience there. I really don't have much to say except that this is the worst Plato's closet that I've ever been to, and I have been to at least 4 different locations across VA. This location has poor selection, and the stench of old clothes is stronger than many thrift stores. That's not good at all. Secondly, the donation portion is not the best either. Perhaps the girls sorting through donations are the reason for the poor selection. I actually had a number of very stylish, like new items, including some that had never been worn and still had tags, and they turned them down. I definitely question whether or not they have the right people in their in terms of choosing clothing. Overall, I was just really disappointed with this location in so many ways. I pass by all the time, and I'm never tempted to stop in. That's saying a lot because I love some of the other Plato's. I'm got to take a firm stand and say this location has it together. I made the commute yesterday to visit since I had the time to do so, and I'm very happy I did. I snagged the yelp deal for buying $10 for $20. I managed to buy 3 necklaces, 3 dresses, a Vera Bradley purse never used, and 2 pairs of shoes for $72. All great stuff in good condition. One of the necklaces were marked at $35, but the owner sold it to me for the buying price that they had originally buy it for from the original owner. It is a Silpada which I had no idea what brand that was until looking it up! Most necklaces on their website run from $100-250, and I got mine from Plato's for $12.25! That's a steal, plus the necklace was so adorable. I picked it up without looking at the price. I'm one of those customers who will pick out items when I think they're cute, then make a final decision at the register if I want them or not. I got some Gap sandal wedges for $12 that otherwise would cost $30 something in the store plus they sell never used Vera Bradley purses. They have mainly retired prints, but who cares when you can buy it for $18-24 versus the typical $50+ you'd pay at the actual VB store or store distributors of VB products! They had all sorts of assortment which I've never seen that happen in a Plato's. I think my only complaint about the store is I felt some of the items were too worn to have been bought. Gently used clothing and repeated washer worn clothing are two different things. I'd say for them just to be more mindful of that. Otherwise the staff are friendly and they've got a wind selection on spring and summer items. Key items to look for here are more shoes, tops, and shorts. Accessories and long dresses are semi limited. read more

I should have read the ratings, but wanted to have faith. They put the wrong phone number in so we were not notified when they were done looking at our clothes- that is the first problem. We had a new (less than 2 weeks old with the tag) Aeropostale sweater, Rock & Republic shirt, Vera Bradley shirt, Cashmere sweater, 2 leather jackets ( one lined with faux fur), a few other name brands. They took a forever 21 dress and two tops for $10. It was taken by goth girl with no sense of style and the excuse they gave was they only take things in style. If you have been in this store they have used work out bras, old sweatshirts, stretch pants that have seen better days, and shoes from the 90s. This place is OUT OF STYLE. Even a wicker purse hanging is suppose to give me confidence that they somehow know more about what is in style that Vera Bradley does. Sorry Plato, there's a reason you're a footnote now. read more

My first time at Plato's and it was clean with no odor! I can appreciate that as an avid thrifter and deal seeker. I liked the location and most the items, but they are pricey. There's no way I would pay $20+ for anything preowned and not a luxury or designer piece. The clothes were extremely tight on the racks and I couldn't really locate my size with ease. It was a lot of stuff. It was like they need a good sale and quickly. If there was a sale, I would have been more opted to spend. They had a great shoe section. Location pretty average, no reason to come here instead of mall though. They need an "IT" factor like amazing stuff, prices or a favorite brand. read more
