I've heard some conflicting reviews about this well-known vegan restaurant, but I'm quite impressed! I feel that the price point is actually very reasonable given the portions and quality of ingredients. A disclaimer that I've only tried their noodle dishes and not the sushi (I do like my seafood haha), but these are fantastic - rich in flavour without being overwhelmed with salt and sugar (the typical fallbacks for vegan food). Highly recommend the truffle fried rice and the Singapore noodles! The fact that the food seems to be relatively healthy (at least psychologically...) is of course a plus as well. The interior is fairly upscale, the dim lighting and elegant decor contributing to a muted but lovely ambiance. I do love a place that allows you to have a conversation at normal volumes! Service is always excellent without fail, the staff is helpful but not overbearing. As a vegetarian I'm always looking out to try out new spots and this is one of my favs. The vibe alone in the restaurant is amazing. Its got a great aesthetic inside. I've had a wide variety of the dishes everytime I've been and they've all been fantastic. The bang bang brocollli and all their sushi is such a great way to start of the meal. I then got the "chicken" burger which was super flavorful and I finished the dish off with the big cookie. The big cookie, it doesn't have many chocolate chips but I wasn't mad at that. For years I've heard about planta but never made my way over there. Some ppl told me it was overhyped but my cousin had recently tried it with her workplace and said she really wanted to go back and told me I had to try it. So we made a lunch reservation on a Thursday and it was empty. Maybe only 5 tables full in the whole restaurant. The restaurant is quite dark but very spacious and large in size. Decorated with an Asian aesthetic. So at this point all I know is that Planta is vegan. I didn't know what cuisine we were about to eat but turns out it is Asian slash Asian fusion? She said it was one of the few places where she could order something other than just avocado rolls -- and now I totally get why she loved it. The restaurant itself is massive and has a more sultry vibe.The happy hour menu had a lot of tempting stuff, but the Unagi eggplant nigiri was the surprise star for me -- honestly tasted so close to the real thing. The spicy "crab" hand roll was also delicious, and I'm still thinking about the cauliflower wings. Perfectly crispy with great flavor. As far as Japanese vegan food goes, this place is stand out. It offers a great experience, in a great location. Showing up during happy hour cut so many costs, which was unexpected but not unappreciated. There were some real favourites here, including the cauliflower, the Bao, the vegan chicken. Honestly, I've been getting requests for us to go back ever since we went the first time. They have a kids menu, and if they're out of copies, they'll go print some out, and fetch you some crayons. They are also incredibly allergy aware. This was a big thing for my experience. Feeling safe and confident with every bite is something that is a lot more rare than you might think, in the city. The unagi eggplant nigiri melted in my mouth, the beet root tartare was excellent and the spicy tuna roll was soo much the better version of this dish. Came for a dinner with friends and we happened to catch happy hour which is 3-6pm. We ordered almost everything on the happy hour menu. My favourites were the cauliflower (lightly breaded), mushroom "chicken" (tasted like fried chicken skin over mushrooms), eggplant Nigiri (super delicious, tasted like torched fatty white fish). The handrolls, brownie, and Japanese sweet potatos were also good and I would order them again. I wasn't a fan of the watermelon nigiri or the summer rolls. The latter would greatly benefit from the tofu being cooked or flavoured, it tasted quite bland. The spicy tuna Maki roll was also tasting heavily of sweet coconut which was a bit jarring. Service was great and very attentive. The interior is very aesthetically pleasing and would be great for a corporate event, date, or time with friends. The price is fairly high. I would say that for the happy hour, prices are good and I would come back during those hours but I do not think I would come back outside of their specials. I went to PLANTA for lunch with a girlfriend on a Monday while staying in the city. This is a very cool spot with beautiful decor - the ambiance was amazing. It feels very upscale without being stuffy or uncomfortable. Service was very good, everyone was accommodating and friendly. I was able to try a lot of the food, so here is everything I tried and my thoughts: -Bang Bang Broccoli: 10/10 - no notes. This was a hit and sooooo yummy. The broccoli was so crispy and didn't get soggy, even the pieces at the bottom with sauce -Salted Maple Macchiato - 4/10 - one of the worst coffees I have had in Toronto. It just lacked flavor, I couldn't taste the maple or sea salt. Their other drinks looked great, I wish I got a cocktail/mocktail instead -Bao Slider: 5.5/10 - it was just okay, I didn't love the flavors and thought it had a really fishy taste -Crab Rangoon Dip: 7/10 - it was a pretty good and flavorful dip, but nothing special. The wonton chips were what made the dish! -Udon Noodles: 8.5/10 - these were fantastic! Really amazing truffle flavor and a generous amount of mushrooms. I visited Planta Queen for a social gathering to take advantage of their Maki Mondays ($9 maki rolls, or $29 for unlimited maki rolls), and Happy Hour (Mon-Thurs 4 pm - 6 pm, & 8:30 pm - close) specials. The Queen location offers an asian fusion plant-based menu, with a wide selection of sushi rolls, small plates, salads, and bowls, in addition to rice and noodle dishes. The dishes we tried were either a hit or miss here, so knowing the right dishes to order will make a difference to your dining experience. I thought the maki rolls here were extremely mediorce, while I enjoyed the "Firecracker Wings" (fried cauliflower) and the "Pad Thai Slaw". This location has chic, modern decor, with a bit of an upscale feel. The staff here were friendly and accommodating. I had a fly land on one the hand rolls I ordered, and had asked our server to take it away when she came to clear some empty plates. Better than regular meat food! I adore Planta. They serve delicious food all made from plants! My first time trying Planta was in NY. I was so happy to find out there is one in Toronto! I ordered many many items off of the happy hour + dessert menu. The unagi eggplant is an absolute MUST! Amazing truffle taste. My next favorite item on the menu is the Chick'n Fried Mushrooms. Oh my goodness - so perfectly fried and tasty. The sauce is AMAZING - full of complex flavors. I believe it's the same sauce served with the summer rolls. The summer rolls weren't that great - the veggies were very hard and raw. The Firecracker Wings (cauliflower) were cooked great but I'm not a huge fan of the mayo on top; I'll ask for it on the side next time. The Thai Lettuce Wrap is very filling. If you've never had good vegan food, you have to try Planta! We had an AMEX dining credit to use and Planta Queen was one of the restaurants on the list, so our party of 4 decided to splurge and give it a try. We made reservations for a Saturday night at 8:30pm and the restaurant itself is huge, but quite busy even at 8:30pm. A little bit of a regret here though, because Sun-Fri after 8:30pm is actually happy hour and you can enjoy discounted food! It's only coincidentally Saturday that they don't have that promotion lol. Planta's Queen location has an Asian Fusion theme, but I believe the Yorkville location is different. A fellow Yelp Elite recommended that location to me so I guess I'll have to try it out! We ordered lots of items so let's break it down: 1) Crispy Brussel Sprouts. This is a December exclusive item and probably my favourite of the evening. I hope they put it on their permanent menu! The sprouts were roasted to perfection and tossed in a sauce that complemented the smokiness perfectly. 2) Ahi Watermelon Nigiri. Supposed to mimic ahi tuna, but replaced with watermelon. I know this is trendy and a common thing that vegetarians/vegans use to replace tuna, but it's definitely not the same. Not much taste with the texture of watermelon on rice is.. not the best. 3) Crispy Gyoza. Just OK - nothing amazing. It does taste heavily of mushrooms. 4) Crab Rangoon Dip. My second favourite appy. The crispiness of the chips and the vegan cheesiness of the dip is insanely good. It can get a bit heavy, but strongly recommend this one! 5) Japanese Sweet Potatoes. Just average - nothing special nor notable. 6) Bao Slider. It's about $7 for just one and it's not really worth the price. The fried mushroom that you get in the bao is also tiny - doesn't feel very proportionate to the size of the bao itself nor the other fillings. I will say the taste is good though. 7) Udon Noodles with Truffle Mushroom Cream. The best out of all the mains. Despite being super creamy, it wasn't heavy at all, probably since it's plant-based. The udon was a bit overcooked and too soft, but taste was perfect. 8) Truffle Miso Ramen. Another December exclusive. We ordered the chick'n katsu to go with it but it wasn't worth the extra cost. The base ramen itself was good. 9) Truffle Fried Rice. The second best main. It does taste a bit like regular fried rice but it isn't soggy nor too crispy which we appreciated. 10) Drinks. Each of us got a drink - I got the matcha latte and it was just alright. I do wish it was sweeter than it was, but making it with oat milk was good! We also got the Chai, Turm It Up (mango & tumeric), and Dragon Power (dragonfruit, ginger, etc) - all of which were just okay. We also got "still water" which was Just Water branded, and it was like $9 for a box lol. It was more expensive than the other drinks we got! Overall service was phenomenal. I believe Simon was our waiter and they explained everything very clearly since it was our groups first time to visit. The music in the restaurant is quite loud though so it was difficult to hear them speak. The atmosphere in the restaurant is also very, very dark. I felt like my vision was going blurry the longer I stayed, but definitely very chic and modern! Beware the prices are a bit on the higher side, but it's a given considering the location in Toronto. We spent a little above $60pp after tips by the end of the night but we did order a lot... And the tax-free dining thing started same day, so that was very nice! read more

Very subtle entrance ~ very easy to miss, so keep your eyes open for their triangular leaf logo door handle on Queen Street Sauce, sauce, sauce!! All their delicious dishes were made even more incredible with their amazing sauces! I made a reservation to celebrate my husband's birthday. I noted in the reservation that the dinner was to celebrate my husband's birthday. When I arrived, I made a point to mention to the hostess that this was my husband's birthday. After we were seated, I asked the server to take a photo and mentioned to the server that I wanted a photo with the birthday boy. After the meal, we ordered desserts. The dessert was served with no acknowledgement of my husband's birthday and no candle. Then we saw 2 other tables got cakes with candles on them. I Think was utterly disappointed. And no, it wasn't overly busy. The food itself is hit and miss, but mostly miss. Having tried several main dishes, they all fall flat with weird textures and/or flavours. I knew that PLANTA was a plant-based tapas restaurant before I visited, so my issue was not due to lack of awareness of those points. Overall, I just felt the food didn't justify the prices. I ordered the Crispy Rice and 1,000 Layer Crispy Potatoes. The Crispy Rice was my favorite, as the "ahi" made with watermelon was really interesting. I also just really like crispy rice. The portion was the same as your average sushi roll anywhere else. The Potatoes were not so good. There was nothing special about them. I know that might sound like a weird thing to say since they're just potatoes, but I was expecting more flavor/seasoning. They were very bland, even with the coconut-based "sour cream." PLANTA is definitely trendy and would be a nice place for a celebration meal or any time you want something fancy. The Peking Jackfruit Salad I had was good - green papaya slaw was the crispy part, jackfruit was the soft part and it tasted like chicken. The salad was topped with peanuts, herbs and lemongrass. The server said it was small but I couldn't finish. My friend had the Udon Noodles, which looked creamy and she validated the same. Wow this place is swanky! It's like a zen garden coming here. Our server recognized my friend who has been here before! Talk about service and have connection. My friend it was lacking in flavours but I found it refreshing. I loved the textures of the kelp with the crunchiness of the taro sticks and peanuts. I'd go back just to eat this dish alone, So my fav in order was Thai slaw,broccoli & cauliflower. Let me start by saying I love my meat, and was kind of hesitant about trying Planta on Queen, because it is vegetarian. When I got to the one on Queen West, I was surprised by how nice the restaurant looked with its bold dark interior. I ordered a starter called Peking Jackfruits. The name sounded very exotic, which intrigued me. Plus I also like jackfruit. But the way it was prepared in this dish wasn't to my taste as they cooked it. I think I will stay with the fresh, uncooked version. However, what I couldn't get enough of was the truffle mushroom udon. It was heavenly. The noodle was soft and so slurpable. Shockingly yummy vegan sushi. We came here on a recommendation from a friend who lives in Toronto. I was a little skeptical and mostly planning on eating the non-sushi options (as someone who likes fish sushi). However we ordered the unagi nigiri, crispy rice (with spicy watermelon ahi), and the dragon roll. They were the best things that we ate! Everything else was delicious too - bang bang broccoli, kale Caesar salad, gyoza, summer rolls, dan dan noodles, and chili garlic tofu. But it is the sushi that I will remember and crave. Service was friendly and the ambiance was trendy (slightly loud). read more
