    a plate of chinese food

The few spots in Toronto that exclusively serve vegetarian Chinese dishes. I came on a weekend for their dim sum, and it was moderately busy. It was my first time having dim sum that's vegetarian style (that runs from 11am to 3pm) Dim sum: There was a good selection of dim sum items to choose from. The bean curd rolls, chive dumplings, mock meat, and the mock siu mai were my favourites. It was a good alternative to the real thing. The service was pretty quick, and I didn't feel like you had to wait long for your food items to trickle in. Located pretty conveniently close to Pacific Mall with lots of parking. The easiest entrance to get to this restaurant is the entrance sign that is beside the patio. Overall, it is a great alternative for vegetarian options.

Vegetarian Dim Sum??? Like WFT?? But it was really really good. Of course frying anything will make me happy. Fun bustling place that has fast service. Food was really fresh and hot. Come here with a big group to try a bunch of things.

Came here for dim sum with a few friends, and it's interesting! Lots of mock meats, some hits (the gluten meat) and other misses (satay squid, fake crab balls). Service was friendly for this tiny joint, and I'd suggest making reservations in advance for the busy lunch hour. The menu is quite extensive but most are plays off typical meat and/or seafood dishes. An interesting place, but my favourites were those that are naturally vegetarian (e.g., egg custard buns, fried sesame balls).

Close to Pacific Mall, easily accessible. Has a really diverse menu while being entirely vegetarian! They also have a separate dim sum menu which has a lot of delectable and unique dishes. Would definitely come again! 難得的素食港式飲茶!菜色應有盡有!值得一試! 無五辛!無蛋素。 飲茶菜單並不在一般的菜單裏,必需再跟服務員單獨要。

Friends wanted to go vegetarian for dinner, wth, why not. Restaurant located at a Chinese mall within walking distance from Pacific mall. Take specific mall entrance leading to restaurant Small sparsely decorated clean bright atmosphere. We were one of 4 diners, what a shame as their veg dishes are creative & tasteful, my kudos to their amazing chef. We ordered the mock sharkskin soup, mock beef brisket casserole, assorted mushrooms in snow pea leave & mock taro fish All dishes were beyond my wildest expectations. I couldn't take photos of the dishes as they were quickly served by the service staff. Service staff were attentive and friendly. Constantly checking on us during the course of our dinner, I guess they were bored with only four tables to look after. Complimentary soy curd dessert at end of meal 1 star deducted as dishes were pricey, then again, most vegetarian dishes I've encountered seem to be pricey, I guess it's not because of the food ingredients cooked but the labor/creativity involved All dishes were exceptional, I need to go back to sample their other dishes ASAP

When servers at a restaurant really care, it shows. That's what we said to each other after we were seated and greeted by the gentleman at this restaurant. I don't know if he has ownership of the restaurant, but he certainly treats his customers with the care and attention that an owner would. Service aside, the dishes were all very good. I am not strictly vegan myself, and I enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered. Some of them were really on point, and could stand up to the meat/seafood versions.

Graceful Vegetarian isn't in my immediate area, but a friend recommended it and the concept was enticing enough to get me to Scarborough. I'm not a vegetarian. I've tried to be in the past, and I respect the outlook, but at this point in my life the idea of giving up meat entirely seems untenable. That being said, I happen to love a lot of vegetarian cuisine and dishes. Learning about how other cultures manage the vegetarian parameter is always interesting, because the results are often so wildly different and imaginative. Graceful Vegetarian is a terrific example of this. The man who took our order was extremely gregarious and knowledgeable - you could tell it was important for him that we have a good experience there. He reminded us that everything on the menu is a "mock" version of the meat listed (fish, pork, beef, chicken), and that the main ingredient was different iterations of soy. We got the Sweet & Spicy Pork, the Lotus Rice, a dish that came with various preparations of tofu (different flavours and textures), Tea Eggs, and Mild Turnip Cakes. Every dish impressed us, and not because it was "good for a vegetarian version". In fact, I'd be lying if I said that the foods tasted like meat. The textures were certainly close though, and the flavours were so delicious that whether it tasted like meat or not stopped mattering immediately. My favourite was the Lotus Rice, with the Sweet & Sour Pork coming a close second. Everything was fantastic, however. I'd happily make the trip again for the wonderful food, friendly service, and comfortable interior.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants! The selection of dishes is massive and everything taste delicious. Among favorites are mock eel, sweet and sour mock pork, bbq buns. It is located in the mall but has it's own entrance and a patio. The service is attentive. Highly recommend!

Prices are a bit high, but the cuisine really surprised me. Very innovative as each item really did resemble the meat counterparts and they stretched the limit of textures that you can create from gluten and other non-meat ingredients. The flavors are interesting as they don't necessarily represent the flavor you'd find in the meat counterpart, but are pleasant overall. The presentation of the dishes is also very nice and they put effort to really give a variety of flavors and textures to each dish. The restaurant itself is not huge, but is clean and comfortable. Definitely worth a visit if you want to try something different and delicious.

Environment: I went to their old restaurant. This was my first time going to their new location. This one was smaller but since no one was here, it was fine (they reopened recently, hope they have more customers soon!) Staff: pretty much just served us. They were kind and helpful. Food: we ordered steamed soy stuffed rolls (normal, nothing unusual since you can get this at other dim sum places). Assorted gluten (always my favorite. Can't eat it at home. Nice portion and loved the textures and flavors). Chicken fried nugget (better than the vegan or soy ones back in the States. This tasted almost like real chicken. Delicious! Wish they had a few more on the plate). Lastly, a noddle dish with fake meat. The noodles were chewy, loved the texture. Some may say the flavor is bland but I think it was freshing; it was light. Everything was very good. Since it is a vegetarian place, it tends to cost a bit more but I loved it and will come back when I visit Toronto again!

If you are exploring vegan options, this restaurant is a perfect place to do it. TIP: if you're a die hard carnivore, don't come here expecting the "meats" to taste exactly like the real thing; instead, keep your mind open and enjoy the different textures, delicious flavors, and the knowledge that no animals were hurt in the making of your meal. Hidden away in the back recesses of the same lot as Pacific Mall. There is a Chinese Vegan restaurant that's nicely decorated, with warm lighting and a friendly host/server/manger. It was cold and rainy but Kam welcomed me with a smile and nice hot pot of green tea. My party of 11 arrived soon after and we were seated at a large table with a lazy Susan, ideal for our upcoming foodfest. When we ordered, Kam asked about any food allergies and assured us that any vegetarian item on the menu could be made completely vegan. We shared 8 entrees among ourselves and tried mock shrimp, roast pork, and jellyfish; we were all pleasantly full and satisfied at the end of our meal. My friends and I enjoyed our time together, the food and the stellar service here. If the owners are reading this, you need to give Kam a raise because he took excellent care of us. They will be closing this location by December 3, 2017 and relocating. Please check their Facebook page for their new address.

Graceful's assorted gluten platter ($10 for small) doesn't look impressive but is the best I've tasted in the city. Some elements are supposed to represent mock versions of barbeque platters, such as barbeque pork or fried intestines. Generally, each has a chewy soft texture and some sort of intense flavour: sweet, savoury, curry, or a combination of a couple of tastes. Thankfully, they are not too saucy so despite being piled beside each other on the dish, they all retain their own flavour. I particularly liked where certain elements of the dish are served warm. The pan fried bean curd sheet rolls ($8.50) appeared deep fried rather than prepared in a pan, which helps to keep the bean curd sheet softer but doesn't give it that lovely golden sheen. Graceful doesn't overdo it with the number of layers so the roll tastes delicate, especially with the saucy filling mixed with vermicelli, which helps soak up the sauce. If they added some more bamboo shoot or black fungus for crunch, these would be even better. Surprisingly, the deep fried taro fish with sweet and sour sauce ($16.99) was available - many places require advanced notice for the dish. Graceful takes silky thick taro filling, shapes it into a fish, and encapsulates it in a thin fried crispy layer. To balance out the heavier dish, they add ginger slivers to the sweet and sour sauce and thin it out so that you can have more of it with the taro. Reserve this dish for at least six people as it can be quite filling.

SO glad I had a chance to come here before they close and move to a different location. Decided to eat here with a friend who's vegetarian after seeing that it's one of the more popular restaurants in the area. Honestly, I didn't expect to enjoy the dim sum as much as the traditional ones I usually go to, but was proven very wrong. All of the dishes we ordered were excellent. Despite there being no meat or seafood, everything was flavourful and tasted on point. Portions were much larger than I thought they would be, having heard that vegetarian restaurants charge a higher premium than normal. While it's true that the price point can't compare to those early morning specials at dim sum places, the quality of the food (and the overall experience) made it worth it. I must also point out that service was EXCEPTIONAL. We were seated and given tea right away, but no one rushed us for orders even though we took a while. No one rushed us after eating, either. Empty plates were cleared regularly to make space on the table. They even packed our leftovers for us after I indicated we were finished! Most importantly, the servers were always smiling and warm and made us feel extremely comfortable the entire time. The ambience was also great - calm, nicely decorated, decent spacing between tables. Will definitely be keeping a watch on this place and trying to convince my non-vegetarian friends to give it a try! Fingers crossed that they're not relocating to Vaughan or something...

Over multiple visits, the standard has never wavered -- a hallmark of disciplined kitchen craft that is rarer than it should be. There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.

When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

New Century will feed a large group. Their lobster, Dungeness crab, and sea bass combo for eight…read more($798) would satisfy ten or twelve. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
