First time eating here nice wings! Large slices of pizza!! Pizza was a little salty which threw me off a little and needs more sauce!!

Its no Duccini's but I guess if you're drunk, you will come here to eat it. Felt like my dough wasn't fully cooked, or the cheese was basically left out as a made-to-order pizza. Pepperoni wasn't that flavorful, or not as crispy as I liked. The slice was pretty big though and it is about like $6 a slice which isnt bad at all. Pizza was put on 2 paper plates and a piece of foil....the slice could have fallen! Staff members were pretty cool though, but the food can be better. I was drunk and I honestly did not think it was all that great. read more

Several months ago my lady and I enjoyed a Food Wars episode on The Travel Chanel pitting two pizza making brothers against each other. The novelty behind these two apparently competitive businesses is the size of their slices. This is what sent us on our mission to the Adams Morgan area of D.C. We were on a quest to be peacekeepers in this war of the giant pizza slices. After a long walk from the Metro station we were disappointed to find the first competitor, Jumbo Slice, did not open for hours. We called their number, and oddly the man answering the phone greeted us with "Pizza Mart," which is the competition. This, the fact that the operating hours of the two establishments aren't exactly competitive with one another, and the fact that we saw one brother enter the establishment of his so-called competition, led us to believe that the Food Wars episode was staged, and that the Iraqi ex-patriot brothers are probably in business together. None of this mattered to us because all that we really cared about was taste. So, we only got to taste the slice from Pizza Mart, and we were not disappointed. It was delicious, and huge. I'll attach a picture of my lady devouring her slice so that you can see the size of the slice in relation to her head, and believe me she has a big head. Just kidding baby! There were three of us, and we all thoroughly enjoyed are slices of cheese pizza. As large as they are, we could not stop eating, and at the end I wanted more. The sauce and cheeses are very tasty. The brother operating Pizza Mart was very friendly, but carefully avoided our questions about the Food Wars competition between him and his brother. I won't hold that against him because he gave us a really good, and fun, dining experience. Although it usually takes something more special than pizza to get four stars out of me, I will grade this place on a curve. As far as ordinary pizza goes, this pizza is better than average, and much better than what we typically can get on the West Coast. read more

The best new thing I've tried in a looong time. I'm always feening for pizza so this was a special treat. Besides the slices being gigantic and filling; the pizza is extremely tasty! I believe that their pizzas are made from scratch, so they slices don't have that corporate Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Popa Johns taste about them. Wow. I'm salivating just thinking about it. A bonus for me is the fact that the PEPPERONI that they serve there is beef, and only beef (there was a sign up that said so). I don't eat pork, so it's great to find a place where I can enjoy pepperoni! The only thing I didn't like so much was the cleanliness of the joint. The counter where the dried hot peppers shakers and Parmesan cheese was pretty grimy. You won't like this if you are a neat freak or are a bit borderline OCD ;) All in all it's a fantastic place, and I'll definitely be making a trip to Adams Morgan JUST for a slice of that pizza in the near future! :) read more

Last night as I consumed this slice of greasy heaven, I was thinking, "NO FUCKING WAY THIS IS LESS THAN 5 STARS!" This morning my stomach is crying out, "WHY THE FUCK DID I EAT THAT JUMBO SLICE??" So yeah, 5 stars when you eat it, 1 star the next day. read more

I was going to use the same introduction paragraph I used in my Jumbo Slice review but upon reconsideration, it seemed a little tacky. So yeah, food wars, rivalry, jumbo pizzas, yada yada yada . . . This pizza was pretty good. Wasn't perfect, but it was pretty good. There was a noticeable amount of tomato sauce on this pepperoni slice and it had a slight spicy kick to it which I thought meshed really well with the pepperoni. The cheese was nice and melted and didn't get too chewy; the dough also tasted pretty fresh although the crust was a little soggy and lacked flavor. As most people point out, each slice is a grease fest that is sure to leave your taste buds groaning with pleasure and your arteries groaning with pain. As far as prices go, I don't think you could ever justify $6 for a slice even if it's a large size but I guess you're also paying for the novelty, assuming big pizza slices are a novelty in our nations capital. Pizza-wise, this was definitely a tasty slice, so much so that I would happily order this (drunk or not drunk) to eat once in a while. Is it bad that we now have to specify our preferences for food based on our state of inebriation . . . . . oh well, God Bless America! read more

Hole in the wall pizza joint - east coast should be great a pizza right? The pizza was huge for $6, its thin but NOT crispy!!! I repeat, it's NOT crispy! IF it were crispy, it would be perfect, and I'd rate it 3.5 stars. This is probably amazing for drunk piggies, other than that, I would save my stomach for something else! read more

- THIS IS THE REAL *JUMBO SLICE* -- Yeah, that's right. The place actually called "Jumbo Slice" a couple doors down totally sucks ballzors compared to this place, and their pizza isn't even worthy enough to have "slice" on the sign. More like Jumbo blahhhhh (shoulda gone to Pizza Mart). That would probably require a bigger sign though, and definitely would not be good for business. Nevertheless. Whatever you do, get your 'Jumbo Slice' from Pizza Mart. If you get your pizza during Adam's Morgan closing hours, you're bound to get a dash of free entertainment too - from high heeled skanks falling in the mud to pitiful gutterpunk fistfights. Freaks, drunks, fakes; come one come all to the best, biggest greasy pizza in the metropolitan area. The pizza also tastes great when you aren't inebriated, though the ambiance tends to be more annoying than enjoyable then. read more

Definitely not a fancy place but I am giving it a 5 stars because more people need to know about this place!!! My friends are locals and they love this place. The pizza slice is about $5 but it is huge...check my pictures if you can't imagine it. Two people can easily share one slice and you will be full. If you are only trying it 3 to 4 people can share a slice. One big slice is like 4 regular slices of an average medium pizza everywhere else. If you are super hungry, go for it. Surprisingly the pizza tasted super good. They only have cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. Overall, this place is local, small, fast, cheap, simple and delicious! Why not? Many locals choose this place for late nite cravings. read more

There are other pizza marts but I believe this one is the OG. There were a lot of drunk people coming in for a late night pizza but it was just as good sober. It seriously is HUGE and the price was so reasonable. I enjoyed it!! You should def. come get a slice of you're in the area! :) read more

This slice of pizza is as big as your head OR BIGGER! Its greasy and done just right for a late nite pick me up My teenage son actually told me about this place - so my husband and I had to check it out! It's best to go late at night when they are really busy - the pizza is steaming hott and fresh out of the oven. Otherwise, you'll get a slice from the "warming" oven - not as hott but still ok. The price is excellent $5 for cheese OR $6 for pepperoni read more

A must stop if you're in the area, seeing the size of these slices is worth the trip alone. Pizza Mart provides delicious New York style pizza slices, only these slices are on steroids (2-3 times the size of an average slice). I enjoyed the classic pepperoni, which was noticeably spicier than your typical pepperoni pizza. The pizza is delicious but not extraordinary, it's the size of the slice that will blow your mind. Seating is very limited but plenty of room along the wall bar for standing, much more standing room than your typical corner pizza joint. One slice and a drink cost about $9.00. read more

I have never had this pizza while sober, but it's the best damn pizza at 2 am. The slices are more than generous, they're about the size of doormat. You have to fold it to even get it into your mouth. At 2 am this is also the best place to 1-pick a fight (should be called fight club) 2-try to steal someone else's girlfriend, which results in the fight 3-watch a drunken frat boy climb the counter and serve the pizza 4-find that last chance hook up. read more

This is my favorite place to get a jumbo slice! Love them! Always friendly and good food

Great pizza for the price. It's like a giant NY style slice.

The fact that people have logged on to Yelp to give Pizza Mart positive reviews diminishes my faith in the underlying goodness of mankind. Enjoying this pizza isn't a reflection of bad taste; it's more like a crime against nature. I have eaten here once. It was the night of snowpocalypse part I. Like most 20-somethings in this city, I celebrated by bunkering down with friends and drinking copious amounts of bourbon. Then we made the epic trek from the Colombia Heights metro to Napoleon Bistro to go dancing, where we proceeded to dance our faces off and imbibe still further. By the time we left, it was 2:30. I hadn't eaten in eight hours. I had been drinking. In sum, anything sounded good - anything. To my misfortune - which at that moment concealed itself as luck - Pizza Mart was somehow open. Slices were ordered. We grabbed the boxes and started back toward the metro. Joyously, I picked up the slice, shimmering in the moonlight as grease flowed off the sides. I ate. I stopped in my tracks. "WHAT THE F*&( IS THIS?" Admittedly, I ate most of it - but I didn't enjoy it at all. See above for an explanation as to why I would do this. It was, without a doubt, the worst pizza I had ever eaten. Don't get me wrong: I really, really like a sloppy, cheap, not-that-great slice of pizza. But this was barely fit for human consumption. In that sense, it fits in nicely with the pizza scene in DC. I really don't understand it. It's practically impossible to screw up pizza. It's bread, cheese, and tomato sauce, cooked at really high temperatures. You can make it at home with a crappy oven and really cheap ingredients, and it STILL TASTES GOOD. So how a business manges to stay open selling people this god-awful lard-smeared cardboard is beyond me. But it didn't end there. The next morning, I woke up with the taste of Pizza Mart still lingering. Granted, this happens sometimes after an epic night out, but it's usually nothing a few minutes with the toothbrush won't fix. Not on this occasion. All day it haunted me. I kept brushing my teeth. I kept eating other, flavorful foods. I think I even flossed. Alas, the consequences of my poor decisions stayed with me that whole next day. Don't be like me. Stay away. Stay far, far away. read more

This place is of legend. When one must get sauced up with a few (or a lot) glasses of booze you can come here for a jumbo slice at the end of your bender to get the glorious magical healing power of melted cheese. Man, I see some mixed reviews on this spot, and yes we were out jumping from bar to bar late at night and walked by it when the midnight munchies kicked in. That slice was huge and it was cheap! Disclaimer: I am from NJ and live in NYC so I am a bit of a pizza snob. I am not going to compare this pizza to my NY/NJ pizza because it's just not as good. Don't hate - I will allow you all to be crab cake snobs when you come to my land. So this place gets 4 stars solely on the fact that it is about 14x better than any other pizza in the MD/DC area.. I mean seriously.. let's not battle on that fact. However, as many have mentioned, this pizza is best eaten (a) when you are drunk, (b) as you are getting into a cab after having to negotiate a fare due to the fact that no one wants to drive to Friendship Heights from AM (little bitter, yup), and (c) if you do not mind getting hit on by the counter guy. Ok so no one else mentioned item (c), but, ladies, it's a possibility.. then again, you are in Adam's Morgan, so you shouldn't be too surprised. Pizza is huge. One slice is more than enough, EVEN if you think your drunk munchies cannot be satisfied - this will do. It's good pizza, too, but the grease is enough to have you passing out on the bathroom floor... after vomiting, or otherwise. Due to said grease, it is very very flimsy, so there is a great chance of you (a) dropping it on 18th street or (b) having it fall on you or in the cab (disclaimer #2: they do not like when you drop pizza in their cabs). Yes, I like to itemize my points with letters. read more

So on both occasions I've been to this place I've had that experience. I went for the first time about 7 months ago at approximately 5 p.m. on a weekday . I asked for fresh slices only one of them was fresh and the second one was an old slice even though they told me that it would be fresh. if you don't have fresh ones tell me upfront. Last night I went at 10 p.m. and I was completely sober I asked for a fresh slice with sausage and the lady said yes they can do that however all they did was take an old slice of cheese pizza and added the sausage and add new cheese on top. Again if you don't have something tell me upfront. read more

Alright, don't get me wrong. Jumbo slice is GREAT FOOD when you're DRUNK. Have you tried it when you're sober? Here's what went down on Saturday night: Me: *climbs in friends car, almost loses Fred Flintstone foot that I'm wearing* Friend: Alright...let's go... Me: $HIT!!! DUDE, LET ME OUT OF THE CAR!!! Friend: WTF?? Me: *runs into Pizza Mart, buys two slices of pizza, runs back out* Friend: What??? Oh hell yeah, give me one. So I start gnoshing on my pizza. Nothing spectacular. At a certain point, I even feel like I was ripped off as I watch the pepperoni grease start dripping onto my costume. I even hope that it's not getting on Dan's seats - but at least they're leather and will wipe off easily. I continue to eat. My wife starts to stare. She tells me to stop eating since I'll get fat. I ignore her. I continue to eat. She continues to carp on me. She takes away the slice of pizza. I sit and ponder how much I truly ate that night. Then it hits me. Wait for it... HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!!! And BAM!!! Just like that, the indigestion set in. I mean, seriously, I love this stuff when I'm just absolutely blotto. I mean, we're talking to the point where I have to hold onto the blades of grass on the front lawn to avoid spinning off of the planet. But reasonably buzzed? Where my taste buds still function enough to tell me that I'm wasting stomach space and digestive juices on this equivalent of the Big-Mac of pizza? Nah, I can't do that anymore. For this level, I'll go with the empanadas! read more

I've been hearing about this place from my husband for years. He fondly refers to it as "the place w/ pizza as big as your face". This place has never been busy when we've gone here. It also helps that we stop in generally between 5-6pm, not late night. There is limited seating, always 1st come 1st serve. Now, if you've never been here, you probably expect their pizza to be much like other "late night" pizza joints. Hot, greasy, and never as good as it is when you've had a few. I was surprised to find that their dough is quite flavorful and their sauce had just the right amount of kick. Drunk or sober Pizza Mart always hits the spot. read more

"Home of the orginal jumbo slice and featured on the Travel Channel" they are clearly very proud of this statement because it hangs on their window. You can also hear a recording of the show on repeat while waiting for your pizza. We stopped in on a Saturday around 2:00pm and it was empty. The actual building is nothing exciting and it was really hot in there. There's about ten places to sit, all at high tops connected to the wall. I ordered a single slice of cheese for $5.50 and a Gatorade for about $2. I would say we waited about six minutes for our pizza to be done and then we picked up the slices from the counter. Holy crap! These slices are JUMBO indeed. A slice comes on two plates because one just isn't big enough. I attempted to eat it with a fork and knife but the plastic silverware here sucks, super flimsy. On to how it tasted: think back to when you were in school and you had pizza, that's what comes to mind. It tasted good but it's nothing to jump up and down about. I assume that the pizza starts tasting better if you add toppings but the plain cheese was just meh. There wasn't a lot of sauce which was 100% OK! I will say I was disappointed in the fact that the pizza wasn't crispy, not even a little. I think they would find it works better to cook the pizza twice in order to get a crunch. If you're in the area and want a quick cheap bite check it out. read more

I didn't know prejudice was a topping! Jumbo slices are pretty jumbo. Small to medium pizza box fits one slice. Pizza tastes average but not bad since they're not going for quality as much as quantity. Late night service is the allure. Watched three brothas walk in and politely hand their money over for some pizza only to be told 5 minutes later that they must have never paid. The three gentlemen had to argue their defense along with the help of a few other patrons. It took about ten more minutes for the business to relent and hand the guy his slice of pizza. Ok wtf is this shett? For rilly. What kind of imbeciles are rating this at all? Have you eaten at any point in your existence? Not only is it not acceptable pizza, its not food, or anything resembling. It is shocking . It is raw play dough with foul ketchup and an lb of garbage cheese, coming off a conveyor belt . How are you allowed to exist? I don't give a fork how huuuuge it is, it's still $6 for shit. I hate you for existing. It's not even difficult to make average pizza and you choose to make shett? It's roughly 3am, a huge fight just broke out in front of Tom Tom's and some guy got his ass kicked so bad I would not know where to begin. I, of course, had the perfect view point having been dining on the greasiest piece of pizza known to man at Big J's. There are three Jumbo Slice places in Adams Morgan, Pizza Mart is probably the best, and it's the only one I have an address for... Anyhow, any of the three are the kind of places you'd only want to go at the end of a "BIG NIGHT" of drinking when you know you're not going to be awake long enough for your stomach to talk back to you. If you were awake your stomach would say something like, "Are you out of your God damn mind?" The slices are generally about the size of a mini-fridge but miraculously you'll find 5'1" 95 lb ladies taking down whole slices with a look on their face that screams paradise. I don't know how this is possible, but I would imagine that the mixture of pizza and beer makes the human stomach a black hole. The bottom line is that it's not the best pizza (sober), but after eight rounds of group therapy next door at Tom Tom's Big J's, Pizza Mart or Jumbo Slice are easily mistaken for a slice of heaven. read more

My recommendation, don't ever order delivery from here. I only did it because we got coupons and figured we'd give it a try. THREE HOURS LATER No pizza. I called back several times to figure out what the deal was. The owner just said "Sorry, I can't do anything. It's free though!" The last time I called I used my boyfriends phone. That call was answered right away while my other phone was still on hold. He said it was because he recognized the number. THANKS. THREE AND A HALF HOURS LATER Oh hello undercooked soggy pizza. Gross. Whenever someone orders they should end the call by saying, "Start drinking now and by the time the pizza gets there you'll be so drunk you won't notice that it sucks as much as it does." read more

I'm sure everyone in D.C. knows this already, but if you haven't experienced a drunken excursion to Jumbo Slice, then you're missing out! The one thing I miss about DC...not the weather, not the location, not the metro, not the food, not the politics, not even the cherry blossoms (though quite beautiful). I miss eating a fat slice of pepperoni pizza at 4am from Pizza Mart (PM) after having a heynight in Adams Morgan (AM). A single slice of pizza (I kid you not is about the size of a medium pizza). It's greasy and thin crust and all together lovely. You'll see swarms of drunkies parked inside, outside, on the sidewalk, diving face first into their slice. The cost: it was $4 dollars when I was there a few years back, so maybe it's gone up to $5, but totally worth every penny. Do not go to Jumbo slice next door, it's not even jumbo, go to Pizza Mart! Only eat Pizza Mart pizza if you are physically in Adams Morgan, otherwise, good luck trying to drive up that crazy block on a Friday or Saturday. AM looks and feels like Mardi Gras during the weekends, especially during the summers. I once ordered pizza to be delivered...forgetaboutit.
