Beers/cocktails need to be ordered from the bar. It would be much simpler to have a server take the entire order. The ribs were very good as well as the fried chicken, which was juicy and crisp. The sides were all underwhelming, I thought the mac and cheese was clumpy and bland, the fries were super salty and the coleslaw lacked flavor. I've eaten here many times and it has been pretty decent however this Last time was awful. The wedge salad had a bad smell and taste. It was garbage. The bacon on it was soggy and discolored. The sound is an issue and it's not just the music which is generally amateurish. We tried to go there four times recently and could manage to stay only once. This time there were at least 20 kids under 5 running around screaming at the top of their lungs. What is this Chuck E Cheese? This is deeply unpleasant unless you have no parenting skills and don't care about other patrons. Fun & unique place to go for locals. We stumbled upon Pineapple Express driving around looking for somewhere fun & wanted to try something new. There was live music which was exactly what we wanted & fun food. It's communal tables if you don't mind it. It was just the hubbie & I so it worked for us just fine. Sometimes the company at end of table can be entertaining in itself. We had a group of "Dads night out" at our table & that interaction was entertaining in itself. There were several families with kids which I wouldn't recommend on a night with live music. The music was SUPER loud. Those poor kids I'm sure lost some hearing. So not a place to have conversation on a live music night. The food was very good. You order food upon entry where they give you a beeper & go to the bar to get drinks. It's comfort food. We had the fried chicken which was sweetly seasoned & think it was honey and was really good. Love fried chicken! The corn muffins were also really good. Coleslaw had a little kick to it and since we don't like spicy food, couldn't eat it. So we found our place to go for fried chicken. I ordered a margarita which was ok. They have some games like foosball, board games, dart board, etc where the kids wind up being entertained. So we'd bring our kids, but again never on a live music night. I've been looking forward to visiting for a while and since they offered Bingo this particular Wednesday, we thought it was a great opportunity. The bartender/staff were great. However, the food was meh. Chicken sandwich included a thin, small slice of chicken, the mac/cheese was overcooked, the macaroni was indistinguishable, just mush, and the ribs were lacking in flavor. I wish we would have received this level of communication with you DURING the gathering at your establishment yesterday. If we would have,we would have been able to communicate to you that many of the people displaying behaviors you are referring to were not part of our group. We hope that in the future you will benefit from better communication with your customers so that you do not need to spend much of your time responding via Yelp. I also believe that your responses on Yelp are a good example of how you treat your customers. Hoping you can improve as a result of our feedback. This place has so much potential and consistently misses the mark. The food is so inconsistent and is always Just not quite there. The staff ALWAYS messes up our bill without fail, and I am mind blown how long it takes it to get a drink made. The drinks and food are very overpriced for what your getting and I live in Montclair I'm used to this. Some drinks are $14 and are not filled to the top and are 2/3 ice. It's the little stuff. I do also recall my husband asking for an Oxtail, so I guess the servers guided him to something in the same range. My million dollar question is if you are out of the wines and cocktails on the specials menu (or so what your bartenders claim), then why still have them out? Went with some friends, and it was ok. The good: Friendly staff, and the food was served up very quickly on a busy Saturday night. My friends had a pulled pork sandwich that looked great, and the ribs looked decent too. The not so good: I had the fried chicken and the coating was bland and tasted like breadcrumbs. Came to check out Pineapple Express BBQ. My SO and I met at P&P 9 years ago and I wanted to bring him to see the new spot. Friends had warned me that this place is overrun by feral children and they weren't wrong. The inside decor was laid back and relaxed but it's still a beautiful space from its rail station roots. I got the Pineapple Express cocktail which was tasty but also 15 bucks which felt a little much for a fine cocktail. Food was a severe miss. Unforgivable considering it was a Wednesday night around 6 and the place was pretty empty. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was fine- room temp Sodexo quality meat and bun with a couple sad pickles. I didn't finish it. Partner got the burger which was pretty sad, as well. We also got the fried pickle spears- kinda mushy and not crisp. The worst by far was the waffle fries "naughty style." Cold fries with cheese and chili oil. No heat but just a lot of oil. I would love for the owner to read this. This is one of my favorite places to go and I'll tell you why. If I'm meeting my friend for lunch with her dog we can easily eat outside by the sandbox. Same for my friend with her young son. I often have a drink here after work or catch a local band.in weekend. My husband does not eat meat. When They opened they had a lobster roll and I buffalo cauliflower. The menu has changed and the only real thing for him to order would be a beet salad or a side of Mac and cheese. For this reason he doesn't want to go there. In all honesty I understood but thought he was just being extra picky until last week when I went with 3 of my coworkers for karaoke. While I understand and appreciate the concept of BBQ and l9ve chicken and pork i felt bad for my coworker. she sat watching us eat full dinners while she has a cup of vegetables. I beg of you to put at least one thing on the menu for vegetarians as an entree. Veggie burger? Salmon burger, crab cake, fish tacos, nachos without meat? They loved the vibe. My girlfriend and I were visiting friends in Montclair for the night. We walked to Pineapple Express BBQ and were greeted by loud music and lots of kids. We ordered drinks and food as soon as we got there. We ordered nachos to share, wings to share, and for our meals we got a burger and chicken sandwich. Nachos were tasty and not too spicy with the jalapeños. The chili was good but it did make some chips soggy. The wings were delicious, smoked and perfectly coated with the hot honey sauce. They were great! They also came with a side of homemade ranch. The burger was ok, standard burger and make it your own by adding sauce, I added bacon as well. My girlfriend ordered the chicken sandwich. She enjoyed it but the bun was a little soft for the chicken. Drinks were good, and reasonably priced. However, the draft beer selection lacked but they did have it in cans. Service was quick, they give you a buzzer for your food to let you know when to go pick it up. It was ready in about 10 minutes. Staff members were on it, walking around tables to pick up empty cans. Overall, they were attentive. Ambiance was a good vibe. We were there on a Saturday night and couldn't believe the amount of little kids there. They had a live band, music was interesting and very loud! read more

Maybe, but none of them are a short walk from my apartment so personally I'm a big fan. Lots of parents with kids on weekend afternoons; vibe is super laid back. Would love a bar outside, but I don't mind going in to refill. Food is solid for NJ BBQ, but I personally prefer this as a place to hang out and drink. It pains me to write this review. It's such a great space and one of the few establishments in Montclair that serves alcohol on top of my favorite cuisine, but every time I go I'm disappointed. The constant live music that is played is such a nuisance to enjoying a good time and talking with your friends and family. It's so loud and only takes away from the vibe at the bar. On the weekends this place should be packed until closing, but instead it can be empty with folks waiting for the lousy bands to stop playing so that you can hear yourself think. The food is average as well - the sandwiches are on the small side and I'd probably give it 3 stars if it wasn't for the crappy ambiance and loudness from the live music. Hopefully the live music will go away and we can hope the restaurant survives...but they are going to need patrons to do that. read more

I rate the place 2.0 stars for look(nice), drinks(very good), service, bench seating, most likely to overload with patrons, no wait staff and pricey considering no wait staff(poor) food(meh, but it is gluten free, which may be the reason). Now, the only other thing to rate is staff. The bar staff, I rated above and only one person cleaning and she did a great job. But the management/ownership leaves little to be desired. He responded to a post my niece left regarding a gathering we had for her boyfriend, which by the way, loves this establishment. He exaggerated the amount of people in our gathering(more like 30, not 50). But realistically, why would you complain if it's 50? That's more people dining/drinking! We arrived at lunch time, which means EVERY ONE dined! The same way everyone eats, not more, not less. EVERY ONE had at least one drink/refreshment. You have to drink something when you eat! As far as the children are concerned, there was 5 in our gathering, 4 that were under the age of 5, one that's about 10. The 4 can't see into a sink, let alone dump something in it, and they need adult supervision to use a restroom! The older one spent all his time with the adults! What you should have done, was approached the child, asked them who their parents are, and complained to them! I give owner a zero. Basically, if you have to eat gluten- free bbq, you have no choice. If you want to eat bbq, there are several places out there that will provide better food, similar drinks, and will provide a work staff for a better price, and won't have to deal with a rude and disrespectful owner. read more

To be clear on my review below: A mutual friend did help us out and it was very kind of you to set aside tables. We had 30 people there MAX but we shared the space with another party so it probably seemed like more. My friends arrived with decorations, asked if they could put them up, were told yes, just in the back room. That is what they did and staff even helped put up the decorations. Fast forward--I receive an uncomfortable text stating that the owner is not happy because more people than expected came (not true, but if so, isn't more people good for business???) and that decorations were up and we never received permission. Umm, we did receive permission and your staff even helped. But what's even crazier than that is the owner was in the building and instead of talking to me decided to awkwardly and cowardly message our mutual friend. So feeling badly and uncomfortable I introduced myself to the owner and thanked him graciously for the space and apologized for the misunderstanding about decorations stating we would take them down immediately. He completely dismissed me, couldn't even make eye contact with me, and with an attitude said "it's too late now" and stormed off. I was embarrassed and shocked by that response and still immediately took down the decorations. Every person ordered food and drinks. Kids stayed in the game area always accompanied by adults. There were many other children there so how our kids are blamed for whatever you're saying happened in the bathrooms is beyond me. Our kids were all under the age of 6 so none of them went to the bathroom unattended and I can assure you that the adults in our party would never allow their kids to behave that way. No balloons flew up, they were all tied down, we would never allow that to happen and if something were to ever happen like that because of us we all feel awful and apologize and try to make it right. But that's just not the case here. I'm truly shocked by all of this and hate that an important event in my family's life is tainted by your behavior. My post means nothing. You'll stay in business and truly you should. But, man, you are not a good or honest person. Take care. One star, once again. read more

Great go to, casual beer garden. The outdoor space in the front is great but they just opened up the outdoor seating in the back and it's awesome. Kids play tables, giant jenga, big connect 4 and cornhole! Super family friendly. Some of the benches can be prickly for squirmy kids haha. We always get the cubanos, onion dip and waffle fries at the minimum. All the other food has been pretty good too. I usually get the frose or margarita in the warmer days. The Bloody Mary is awesome as are most their other cocktails like the Pineapple Express!
