Uhh would give 10 out of 5! We were visiting Portland and a friend recommended Pine Stare Biscuits. We went early and there were no lines. Since you place your order before seating, we were not rushed and can look at the menu and the baked goods. The food came out pretty fast and everything was done so well. The biscuit and gravy was amazing. We ordered the Marion berry roll. I am not a fan of Marion berries but this was delicious. They described it as a cinnamon roll but with the berries. This did not disappoint. Kids had pancakes and bacon. Pancakes were so delicious and bacon was crispy just how we love it. Finally the star was the shrimp and grits. So amazing. I almost went back to order more for myself but the line became too long. When we come back to Portland, definitely coming to Pine State Biscuits. read more

Yesterday I had mad cravings for a crispy, fried chicken sandwich. I did a search on Grubhub to see what I could get delivered. Up comes the usual suspects, Popeye's, McDonald's, Burger King and lo, PSB. It has been a minute since I've had myself some fine PSB. I ordered the McIsley which comes stacked on a fluffy biscuit with dill pickles, mustard and a drizzle of sweet honey. It arrived about 15 minutes after I ordered it. BAM! The thing is with sandwiches from PSB, they tend to be on the ginormous side and kinda messy. They are way more satisfying than Popeye's or any of the other fast food chicken sandwiches. Yummy, yummy, yummy!! Would totally return and eat here again. In fact, wished our visit to Portland was longer so I could eat here more than just once!! The servers were nice, the variety of offerings were solid, and ALL the food we had tasted great! My partner and I "shared" everything. He ordered the Wedgie with Ranch (vs Blue Cheese dressing). This review is about the expediter, the short woman with ponytail buns and glasses. We had been waiting for what was, in our estimation, a straightforward order, for 45 to 50 minutes. This person then came to our table with the wrong order. She left, then a couple minutes later called out my name. I got up and she asked if it was our order and I said no and said that we had been waiting a long time. She said "well welcome to a lunch rush" or words to that effect. Pro tip: apologize and move on! One of the two plates was my son's actual order so I turned back and said "could I at least get my son's order so he can start eating?" She snapped "I'M GETTING THE WHOLE ORDER!" I calmly replied " I just wondered if I could get my son's since it's ready" She yelled at me "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME!?" Forget about your diet and stop by Pine State for a bomb breakfast sammie! There are plenty of options that will appeal to all tastes, but meat eaters will do best here. There are some veggie offerings and you do have the option to BYOB (build your own biscuit) so the menu offers something for everyone. Seriously, their biscuits alone are worth the trip. Stopped by Pine State Biscuits last month with fiance and friends while we were on vacation in Portland and had a great experience. Seating was outside which was a little unfortunate during the historic heat wave, but we arrived early enough that it wasn't a huge issue while we were eating. It was also very cool how we were able to scan the QR code at the table and order everything that way! My fiance and I split the Reggie Deluxe with both gravies (and the egg over-easy), the hash-ups with another over-easy egg, and the lemon ricotta and rhubarb poptart. The homemade poptart was amazing and not too sweet; really enjoyed it as a starter! The mushroom gravy on the Reggie Deluxe was delicious and perfect; if I ever come back and get to try it again, I'd definitely just go with all mushroom gravy. From a southerner's perspective these biscuits are down right good. Tasty shrimp-n-grits. Bloody Mary ~ supposedly multi-year award winning described by the server was not rewarding this morning. Presentation, flavor and pickles was bloody blasé. Prepaid server tip ~ not understanding having to tip before being acknowledged by anyone at all, ordering via phone, then non attentive dining afterward. This place was highly recommended and heavily reviewed so ofc we had to stop by! Long line for dine-in but you can cut to the front when ordering for take-out. It was definitely packed on Memorial Day. My bf and I ended up getting The Essential, which was tasty with tender steak! We also got the reggie deluxe which was super amazing. We got it with half mushroom and half sausage gravy that was drowning the biscuit sandwich in nothing but flavor. So good and highly recommend! The fried tomatoes were also pretty good but kind of basic. The biscuit beignets are NOT TO BE SKIPPED. One of my favorite restaurants in Portland! I'll always bring visitors to Pine State Biscuits! I recommend trying out the Blueberry corn meal pancake as well as doing a combo of the gravy ( mushroom and sausage gravy). I always order the Moneyball with sausage or bacon. It had a light flavor that perfectly complimented the chicken and huge stack of lettuce on top. I thought the lettuce was bizarre at first but it helped bring a fresh and light element to the plate. The fried green tomato was also delicious. I never had one of those before but now I'm obsessed. Every aspect of the meal was perfectly flavored. Overall everything was pretty good! The chicken fried steak was cooked to perfection. And my club, where I don't normally eat red meat, was so delicious. I'm a big fan of cinnamon rolls so I was excited to it try out especially for the bourbon glaze but it was alright. I can tell it was sitting out for a while so it tasted a little stale, somewhat dry. The customer service though wasn't the greatest. So I went to NW 23rd Ave and they picked up with excellent customer service. I placed my order over the phone and they told me 10-15 mins for pick up. This was the highlight of our trip to Portland! I had read positive reviews, and as a resident of the south, love a good fried chicken biscuit. There are multiple locations of Pine State, but this particular one is located in a really cute neighborhood, with great looking shops and restaurants (much better area to bop around than downtown imo as of the date of this review). I was nervous because I had heard the wait can be long, but we got very lucky and just narrowly beat the crowds. We arrived around 9:30am on a Sunday and only had one or two people in front of us in line. By the time we'd ordered and sat down, the line was going down the block! They do offer ordering online, so that's an option if you're nervous about lines and have some foresight. The menu here is incredible, so ordering was a tough decision. They have a great variety of sandwiches, regular breakfast, hashbrowns, and full coffee menu (not just drip coffee). The ambiance is great, with ample indoor seating as well as outdoor picnic tables. You bus the tables yourself upon leaving. Our food was out relatively quickly (slight wait but not bad) and it was all incredible! Huge portions and everyone at our table was happy with their orders. My personal favorite was The Wedgie which is a cross between a wedge salad and a chicken biscuit - genius combination with a great piece of chicken, delicious biscuit, crunchy fresh lettuce, friend green tomatoes (a southern must!), and a generous helping of ranch. I got a hashbrown on the side - I'm a potato connoisseur and love that theirs are the traditional shredded kind (not cubed), extra crispy, with great seasoning. Waited 1.5 hours for a Reggie deluxe. When it finally came out, the fried chicken wasn't crispy at all and the whole thing was just luke warm. I don't know why we even waited in the first place- the line itself was not long.. it was just extremely slow to move. I'm not sure if they were short staffed, but if they were, I think it would have been helpful for them to let us know so we can be understanding of their situation and also to reevaluate if the wait is worthwhile. I'm not sure if the wait/quality is always like this at this location but I wont be coming back. We could have left to the SE location, ordered, finished, and then taken a nice walk around the neighborhood by the time we got our food. The mushroom gravy is really nice. Also, I recommend their blueberry cornmeal pancake ($5 for a single pancake is more than enough). Lastly, an absolute must is to get their homemade hot sauce (womp sauce) on the side. It's free, and so good added on top of their savory dishes. The second time I went here and got takeout, the meat is a little too over-fried for my tasting. I would have liked it less, which would make it more tender and juicy. Price: $$ Items Ordered: - Whiskey Bourbon Cinnamon Roll: I'm almost always disappointed by cinnamon rolls, finding that more often than not they are an arid affair trying to use icing to cover up an old dry mound of carbs like too much makeup over a black eye. Nomatter how much you use, the abuse still lurks just underneath the surface. Well, it turns out there are a few good (cinna)-men left out there who would never raise a hand to you, but instead raise the bar on what this treat can be. My roll was warm, gooey, and perfectly cooked. The bulk of the pastry was just-done, having passed from it's doughy teens into a firmer 20's - pausing on the threshold to remember where it came from. The edges had the lightest touch of crispiness, just enough to give texture before giving way to a soft and indulgent center. The sauce was sugary, but not sickly. I am no stranger to Pine State Biscuits. I knew that one near my place had opened... took me a spell to check it out. Sunday morning I got up kinda early... but not crazy early. The whole street was ghostlike... I could sense the future when the area would soon be full of life. I showed up an ordered with no line. However, tables were taken up and the suns angle made booth seating attractive. So I sat despite the sign. Yes I saw it, but I wasn't there to hang out... I was there to eat and leave. There was no line..., and I ordered far more than I could ever eat. Minus a star from Mr Salty Server who even without a line felt it was his duty an honor to hound me. Good for him to kindly walk off when I told him I read the sign and decided to sit wherever I felt because there wasn't a line... Alright! Food! What of it?! I went for the veggie Reggie and added an egg. What arrived at my table was something to behold! Piled high with flavor and golden biscuit goodness. A few dashes of hot sauce and I was transported to breakfast heaven! I also ordered some delicious hash browns extra crispy. Again, very good! I will be back but next time I'll go even earlier.
