I stopped by Ken's Artisan Bakery close to 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon so many products in the…read moredisplay case had already sold out. I ended up getting a walnut roll ($2.50) and a jambon-beurre ($7.00). Although there weren't any ham sandwich in the display case, the woman at the register informed us that they'd be able to make one for us on the spot. The walnut roll had been sitting around in the case all day so the outside had developed a hardened crust that was a bit difficult to chew through. That said, the inside had plenty of walnuts, great flavor, and would have been really nice toasted up in an oven. The jambon-beurre here is as good as it gets: high quality butter on artisanal bread, with a simple piece of ham on top. The pickled onions and pickles on the side were a nice touch as well. I wish more places would offer a jambon-beurre, but sourcing high-quality bread and butter is probably the biggest challenge for businesses. If you're here to get one item, I'd highly recommend either a baguette, or the jambon-beurre.

There are multiple counters for different types of food. Additionally, there's an area to purchase bottled wine and jams/jellies. Grab whatever items you order and pay at the register. If you order from a station, bring your ticket with you as that's where you get charged. Pretty much any type of deli flavor you're looking for, you can find it here. Just a funky font. Service was super friendly and welcoming, and we had our choice of a selection of great slice options. Gotta admit, it was hard to narrow down an option, but we landed on the Apuglia slice, which had yellow peppers, castelvetrano olives, sausage, and fresh mozzarella. $7.50 for a slice, but they looked good. These toppings were top notch. I love castelvetrano olives. These are flavorful, non-salty green olives that are just amazing. The sausage was rich and equally incredible. Not sure there's a pizza place around that does a better job with topping quality, to be honest. The crust is where things went awry. To me, the foundational goodness was there, and the edge of the slice was a nice crispy and chewy representation that holds the promise of what Angolo could be at its best. However, the majority of the crust was wet, soggy and limp. It's not that it was uncooked. Rather, it had probably been sitting out too long and the tomato sauce had liquified the bread portion of the slice. Soggy bottoms! I think ordering a full pizza and getting it fresh would probably best deliver on the potential of what Angolo PDX could be. If we return, that's the direction we will go. And, I'm sure we'll be back for the topping quality and authentic Italian pizza!

The first pizza we ordered was their special -- a sweet corn and chiles, and the other one was the "baller" from their standard menu, a meatball topped red pie. If you enjoy spicy pizza, you'll absolutely love the corn and chiles one. The seeded peppers definitely pack a punch. With the baller pizza, the beef & pork meatballs were well-seasoned and had a nice balance of lean and fatty bits. What I really liked about the pizza here was not just that the combination of flavors worked really well together, but the quality of the crust was fantastic. The crust is rolled out to be super thin, is cooked to be crispy enough that it doesn't flop over when it's folded, and the crust has a wonderful chew to it that doesn't exhaust your jaw as you're working on your second or third slice. In addition to whole pizzas, they also do pizzas by the slice, sandwiches, desserts, beers, and cocktails. This spot really has it all. I cannot recommend Pizza Thief enough -- definitely worth going out of your way to check it out.

This place isn't fine dining by any stretch, and it isn't meant to be. It is a casual place to sit, eat, and catch up with friends over a slice or two.
