The difference is you're going to experience flavor combinations you won't find elsewhere. We had a very poor experience here. The host made some highly insensitive comments regarding my little child while we were waiting for our table on a busy night. We were so shocked that we just stormed out. We dine a lot in Portland but have never had such a poor customer experience. Wish I could give this place 100 stars! Norah is one of my FAVORITE restaurants in all of Portland, and I'm not even vegan (just vegetarian). Every dish I've had from here has been incredible, just so flavorful and well balanced. Favorites are the Pad Thai nachos and Bibimbap. Also, they are really good and accommodating with food allergies. My husband has a peanut allergy and he has been able to eat here with no trouble at all. We avoid Thai/asian restaurants for this reason, but he was able to eat Pad See Ew for the first time ever here and he was so happy. I've been here so many times because they offer amazing vegan options! I love their pad thai and their bibimbap. It's cool that they still provide a variety of protein sources like soy curls, and other toppings to ensure you get protein. The flavors are not bland and they offer good variety. Starting off with the Pad Thai nachos and Masala waffle fries, I couldn't get enough of the flavor explosion. The fries were perfectly crispy and completely coated with various spices. I'll preface by saying I came in with very high expectations given all the positive reviews. As a non vegan I figured it was still worth trying to see what the hype was about. Unfortunately the meal overall was just average for us. Got the croquettes, pad see ew, fries, samosas, and pad thai nachos. They were *running low* on the cauliflower curry which I was very interested in and thus we couldn't order via the app...bummer. Food was all just okay. Some good flavors, pad see ew felt off, but overall nothing that blew us away. The service is what I expected to be fast, per all the reviews, but even that wasn't great. We were seated and then had to wait a least 20 min to get even our drink which came out after our initial food. While fun to try we definitely won't be rushing back anytime soon and I would go so far to say skip if you aren't vegan. read more

I've been meaning to try this place, and I'm really glad I did. I'm not vegan, although I don't eat red meat. My dining companions are fully omnivorous. Nobody came away from dinner feeling deprived, however, and we all really enjoyed. We had the bibimbap, the pad Thai, pad Thai nachos, and the see ew. We also had longan rice pudding for dessert and hibiscus lime drinks. Everything was delicious, and portions sizes were plenty big enough for a couple of extra leftover meals. I came here over the summer and realized I never wrote a review for this great vegan Asian spot! After passing by it dozens of times and seeing how packed it was, I really wanted to try it. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and can be a bit tight for big groups, so keep that in mind. Reservations are highly recommended. When you come in, you're seated at a table and you order the menu (and pay) through your phone. I got their Thai iced tea but a couple of my friends got some alcoholic/virgin drinks and everything was delicious. We ordered a couple appetizers to share such as the curry waffle fries and the samosas, and both were delicious. I would definitely order them both again. For entrees, we got the pad see ew, cabbage, and cauliflower curry to share. Everything was super flavorful and so delicious. As a group of people who weren't even vegan, we were very impressed. Our table of four tried a bunch of different dishes - traditional Thai ones like see ew and spicy holy basil, but also more creative dishes, like the pad Thai nachos, masala waffle fries, and massaman curry samosas. I recently tried a few items here, and while I appreciated the effort put into each dish, some of the flavors didn't quite align with my taste. The nachos were a bit too salty, and the wontons had an aftertaste that wasn't to my preference. The fried rice also wasn't my favorite flavor-wise. The pad Thai had a ketchup taste. On the positive side, the virgin colada was tasty, although it had a lot of ice and foam, so it was finished in just a few sips. An aspect of the experience that I wasn't fond of was the ordering and payment process. Scanning a menu to order and paying through it at the end made me question the service component, especially since a tip was still part of the checkout. Additionally, a water bottle was brought to the table for self-service refills, which felt a bit hands-off. Overall, while the concept may appeal to some, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for in a dining out experience. Two stars were for the friendly waitress who was also the host and bartender. They have lovely outdoor seating when the weather is nice and they open up the garage doors so there's a breeze inside. Because the place is small, it's good for guests to be mindful of their time, especially during peak hours. It's a bit confusing whether you need to check in and order upfront or be seated. I would suggest the restaurant post signs. But, as long as spaces are available, you can choose a seat and order from a QR code on the table. Food comes out quick and hot. This place is a hidden gem! I went here not once, but twice in two days, and it was fantastic both times. While I live on the west side, I happened to be attending an event both Saturday and Sunday in the area. Both times I went, I was with friends with specific dietary needs. They were impressed with the variety of options! Saturday: My vegetarian friend (Jen) loved the zero-proof Pink Guava Sour and thought the bibimbap was just okay. My dairy-free/egg-free friend (Camille) raved about the coconut mushroom linguine and we all tried it and agreed it was the best dish. Sunday: My gluten-free, soy-free, vegetarian friend (Erin) found plenty of delicious options and loved the cauliflower curry.
