Rare is the restaurant that makes one dish so well that you don't ever allow yourself to experience the remainder of the menu. Such is my experience with the Green Curry at Paadee. It is, in a word, perfect. I can only imagine what their other offerings taste like, but I myself may never know because the Green Curry is just that good. Add in excellent and attentive service and a very Portlandesque atmosphere and Paadee is a definite winner. Easily one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. Cute resy for intimate dinner with family or date night! The service was great, we didn't have a resy but got sat down immediately on a Tuesday night. Our waitress checked on us regularly. Savory and a bit salty with a chewy texture. My wife really enjoyed them, but they weren't quite for me. Pineapple Juice - $4 (2/5) (would not get again) Good flavor, but mostly ice and not worth the price. Gai Grop Sam Yan (2/5) A Thai-style sweet and sour chicken dish, similar to a more sour version of General Tso's chicken. While traveling in Portland a story of this restaurant popped up on my feed and I knew I had to try it. Best decision ever! It's an unassuming place with both indoor and outdoor seating, casual. Upon entry you are offered a menu to order. Seating is self seating and a bottle of water is provided to each table. I went during the lunch hour and ordered the Tamarind glazed wings set (papaya salad, boiled egg, sticky rice and broth). The best tasting meal through my entire start. Everything was delicious, even the boiled egg and I don't even like soft boiled eggs. I wanted to try their Kanom Gui Chai, but they were sold out. The staff here were friendly and quick. Two people working indoor and outdoor with the cooks keeping the food coming. I would definitely return to Portland just to eat here again. read more

The best thai food I've had in a long time. Believe the awards they have posted on the wall. Our group came here on a whim for a late dinner on our last night in Portland and I'm So glad we did. We ordered Jub Chai (pork belly and vegetables stew), black cod curry, duck laab, tom kha gai soup, and pad see ew. Everything was delicious. But if I had to pick one dish, their jub chai was to die for! Servers are super friendly and attentive if when they were super busy. We arrived at 9pm the place was still crowded. We got lucky with no wait on a wet Sunday night, arriving around 7ish. Kanom Gui Chai - This was a new and different twist on the pan-fried Chinese chive cakes I'm used to. Texture-wise, they nailed the crunch on the exterior, but the dough itself lacked flavor--which explains the heavy reliance on sauce. Unfortunately for me, the sauce was too saucy, too sweet, and too sticky. I much prefer the traditional version that isn't drenched, with more filling and flavor built into the dough. If you love sauce soaking into a blander base, though, this might be right up your alley. Red crab fried rice and pork belly fried rice - Both were quite delish and solid choices. Tamarind fried chicken - Hands down the most edible and delicious item. A must-try. Flank steak salad - Unfortunately, the least edible dish. The dressing was inconsistent, leaving parts of the salad overly salty. Overall - the staff was attentive, and I can see why this spot is a neighborhood favorite. Nice lighting with bottles of water at the table. Quirky decorations and tasteful furniture from floor to ceiling. Love it, would bring a date here if I wasn't so terribly alone. Or at least I would if it weren't for the food. Because the food is a problem I had the Pad Kee Mao and the noodles were overcooked which is wild for dining table service. Onion pieces were cut like logs and the overall size of the dish was so small I felt like I needed a second meal. So I got one. Pork Belly Fried Rice was also a mess Bland, barely seasoned, dry meat, and again a weak portion size. Why are we skimping on rice noodles and rice? Each dish was $17 and I'm just not seeing the money on the plate. I guess we're paying off the table lamp. I know I sound mean but this is some of the worst Thai food I've ever had and I almost didn't notice because of how enchanting the staff was. But if you served this to me blindfolded I'd rank it 2 stars at best. If the staff wants I can send some recipes I found on Youtube that would push this to an easy 4 stars. Definitely a highlight for me. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken pad see ew. It had good flavor but I did notice some of the noodles were a bit mushy. There were also hints of pepper that I didn't really enjoy, which threw it off a little for me. The ambience was great, I loved the vibes. They don't take reservations here but my mom and I walked in on a Sunday night around 7pm and were seated right away. We got the Pad See Ew and the green curry-both amazing. Everything on the menu looked delicious. For sure want to come back here and try more things. The service is great and the food came very fast. Also would probably be a good takeout spot. Picked up an order of their chicken wings to go. I got the half tamarind and have dry spice mix with a side of red and green chili oil. I would skip the red, but the green chili oil is very unique and zesty. Loved it !! Next time I will just opt for a pure dry spice mixed order as the tamarind glaze used on the wings were good But Whoever made them was really heavy handed in adding the fish sauce. Also, when you get the half and half wing order, it's not really separated, so I couldn't really purely enjoy just the dry spiced wings as the sauce also got on them . Five-star experience on a three-star budget. We had intended to meet as a larger group here, and were lucky to not need a reservation at 6:30pm. Paadee does not book reservations in advance, and only does on-the-day reservations for groups of six or more, as an FYI. The team was very helpful for us, and immdiately got us a good table in the more private and hidden back room. The server back there was fun, funny, and had good recommendations. Their fashion/fit was also unreal, so great work! Almost as soon as we sat, drinks were ordered, and the fantastical array of cocktails made their way to us fast. We all LOVED the special frozen blended drink with the flamingo, and boy did we order a few of those. It took us a while to order food, mostly because we were catching up, but there was a good variety of different types of Thai, which was great for me as someone who has to avoid rice. I went with the papaya salad and egg noodle dish mains. We ate slowly and happily, spending almost three hours here with no issues from the staff (sometimes in Portland you can be asked to leave after 90 minutes). The restaurant was nicely designed, and there is ample patio space to dine when the weather is nice, too. The bathrooms were clean, too. Parking can be a challenge in this area, but, might as well bike or walk to enjoy some more bars before or after. read more

Not sure if there is a story behind that but it would've been more fitting to do a Thai book or something instead I got an Agatha Christie book. Food was pretty good! We started off with the Issan style papaya salad which was super strong flavor but too salty in my opinion and not enough spice for my liking. We also got the laab flavor chicken wings which were good but not enough flavor in my opinion. For main dish, I got the khao soi which I loved! Except the chicken breast for protein was very dry and I couldn't eat it. My husband got the duck curry which had great flavor! Upon entering you see the wood feels like were in SE Asia? Ceiling lamps feels like bamboo. I see a dish being carried to a table the waitress smiling carrying the plate with ease. We are greeting letting us know to come to the front of the counter to order although the sign says Please wait to be seated. A little confusion but with smiles, so we are happy. They are moving chairs... sit here..or here. A stack of menus by the point of sale...but you know this place is good by the smells, laughter and the smiles, the vibe...you want to be here everything is moving smooth. The person same person that guided us with the menu also delivered one of the dishes. We order some Thai ice teas, Pad see ew and Tom kha gai. The noodles fat wide on the Pad see ew. Some veggies huge bomb shrimp cooked perfectly, everything cooked spot on. The soup cream coconut flavors a little steamy on the cool day in Portland. Great tasting. They stop by to drop off the food and come by later delivering spices and checking on us. A bustling place. Host and servers are very friendly and pleasant. We had the wings in both flavors and they were phenomenal; great flavors, crispy outside, and falling off the bone. I'd return just for wings! Our green curry chicken had incredibly moist chicken breast; possibly sous vide? They know how to nail the protein cooking! There were only a few small pieces of eggplant however, and one large (entire stem) of basil. If the dish had more eggplant we'd have loved it. (I actually thought it had none because my partner took 3 pieces and that was it.) The pad see ew was lacking in flavor and was a disappointment for us. It needed more tamarind to give it a punch. One of the best Thai places I've had in Portland, and there's a lot of Thai options! For a party of two there was a bit of a wait on Saturday night but that was expected. We were seated outside which was a nice set up, and it didn't feel too cold in a chillier day. Service was pretty quick and nice! We loved our drinks, my friend got a mocktail with the cutest peacock decor and the Thai tea I had was great and not too sweet. The pork skewers were super juicy and melt in your mouth, the sauce on the side had the perfect kick. The tempura salad with shrimp was warm and so flavorful. For our mains, the pad kee mao with chicken + vegan massaman curry was really good too! FYI the latter is quite soupy rather a thicker curry, which wasnt really our preference but still tasty. I only really order one item as it's very filling when served with rice, gai grop sam yan - crispy fish sauce chicken chunks is basically what it is. I do on occasion order the mango and sticky rice or another dessert to go with my dinner, but for the most part the chicken is a must. For the past 5 years I've ordered Pad See Ew every time I visited, about once a year. Today I decided to try the Khao Soi, because I love this dish at other restaurants. Paadee's Khao Soi is hands down the best version of this dish I've ever had. Highly recommend it to anyone, just be aware it's slightly spicy. I love spicy Khao Soi so not a problem for me. I was so impressed with my meal that I likely won't be able to bring myself to try anything else on the menu. The service was great too. I would have loved to try one of their cocktails or mocktails, but I opted for a Thai iced tea instead. It was the best Thai iced tea I've ever had, the spice level was perfect, not too sweet.
