We tried the Thai iced tea, Muu Kua Grua pork belly appetizer, pad see ew, and a daily special fried rice with steak. I would recommend all of this and want to try the curry noodles next time. Other foodies rave about the special restaurant inside this place called Langbaan (reservation required), but also tell me Phuket Cafe has amazing food! We only stopped for a small meal. I see the potential, but had a few hiccups. Fried rice that was some of the best I have ever had! I was excited for the crying tiger, but it was a bit overcooked to medium - not medium rare, as I was told. Cucumbers also seemed old, but the sticky rice was good. I would have said something, but we sat at the outside bar seats and the server was almost no where to be found. I came here for Phuket Thai during Portland Dining Month and tried their fixed menu. Overall it was a great experience. The dishes were very flavorful and you can tell they don't hold back on seasoning. Everything had a lot of depth and definitely leaned on the spicier side, so if you enjoy Thai food with a real kick you'll probably love it. Each course felt thoughtfully prepared and the flavors were bold without being overwhelming. The service was great--the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We were seated out in the train car, which was a fun and unique setting . The only downside was that it was a little chilly, but it didn't take away too much from the overall experience. read more

The food here is absolutely fabulous! The fresh ingredients, flavorful sauces, and beautiful plating are all superb and the combination lets you experience your meal with all of your senses. I've been here for dinner and we shared many plates so that we could all try a variety of menu items. Hard to pick a favorite but if pushed, believe it or not, I loved their fried rice dish and their massaman curry. Both seemingly ordinary dishes but nothing short of spectacular here! Every bite a taste sensation. Met a friend here for lunch today and we started out with one of their craft cocktails to celebrate the holidays. It was perfection. The names are as fun and entertaining as the drink! For lunch I had the Pad See Ew, not a dish that I typically order because the sauce is usually sweet. I prefer Pad akee Mao for the spice and complexity. But at Phuket Cafe, they don't do the overly sweet brown sauce. Their sauce had the traditional flavors - sweet, salty, sour, spice, bitter - creating a harmonious balance that sings on your tongue. The dish was served with some hot sauce on the side, but it didn't need it. It was perfection right out of the kitchen. This is a small restaurant with a colorful bar as you enter, a few booths, and some high top seats at the Chef's counter. That's where we sat because it's fun to watch the chefs prep and do their magic. Outside is a covered hut that's warm in the winter, so don't pass if that's the only seating option. We went for Portland dinner month and tried their tasting menu. The fried chicken with the sauce for app was delicious and would chose that over the prawns which we also tried. I'm always confused why they put such good sauce over a shelled prawn. Where you have to de shell it and lose half the sauce and now you're a mess ‍. For the main, the Massaman curry was delicious and sauce super flavorful. The Tom Yum Noodles were average and wouldn't get them again tbh. Thai tea tiramisu was delicious. read more

We were very impressed, expectations exceeded. The salty lemon/limeade and the Angostura-based Southhampton were excellent non-alcoholic starters. Loved the Mon Tod, will order two next time. If you're a fan of crispy potatoes you should enjoy this. Their Pad See Ew is a cut above the norm, lots of oyster sauce. The Yum Pak provided the greens; we topped it with very juicy turmeric chicken. The panna cotta, "jello", and pandan crisp dessert was light and flavorful. What a cute refined casual cafe situated in a lovely neighborhood! We didn't have reservations but were able to sit immediately in the outdoor seats by the window. Thankfully it was a cool evening and the sun had already set. Our waitress was very nice, recommended the perfect amount of food for two. We got a salad, fried chicken, and a pad Thai. Food came out hot and fast, and we were blown away by the flavors. Can't wait to go back!! There's some street parking but most people seemed to have walked over. I'd heard a lot about this spot and decided to stop by during lunch. We ordered the Muu Kua Grua, Gai Tod Ko-lea, and Chicken Pad See Ew. To be honest, the Pad See Ew was far too salty--we couldn't get past two bites. I've had much better versions at other restaurants, so that dish was a definite miss for me. That said, if you're looking for an inexpensive lunch, this place could be worth checking out. As for the Gai Tod Ko-lea, it's a solid choice if you enjoy boneless fried chicken. Personally, I prefer bone-in, and the menu didn't make it clear that it was boneless, so I'd skip it next time. read more

I have heard many amazing things about Phucket Cafe and was excited to try it out. An FYI, unsure if this was something that happens often, but I believe on certain days Phucket Cafe shares their restaurant space with Lang Baan. So sitting for Phucket Cafe is cut in half, which means a longer wait for a table. Just to keep this in mind, if you don't have a reservation. The staff was friendly, and the service was amazing. Since it was our first time, our waitress really helped us pick out the right drinks and dishes to try. For drinks, we ordered Crimson King, 55555, and a seasonal special cocktail. Both delicious and refreshing. For the dishes we ordered, Pad See Ew, Pork Fried Rice, and Tom Yum Noodles. All are full of flavor and well-balanced. Our favorite was the Pork Fried Rice. I enjoy dropping in here for lunch, especially to get their soup noodles. It's cute to sit in their covered outdoor seating area. My sister and I came recently and I ordered the curry soup noodles with grilled chicken, which is like a khao soi. The curry flavor was just right for me and the chicken was cooked tenderly. My sister had the tom yum soup noodles and while she liked it, she did find the spice level a bit spicy for her (they didn't ask if she wanted it adjusted, and I don't think they can adjust). A lot of the other lunch items, especially the snacks, were fried things that I generally avoid. Service is friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. read more

I came here for a friend's birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! The flavors here were quite varied and it took us on a flavor-filled adventure, that's for sure. The restaurant had patio seating for the night we dined. The outdoor seating area was enclosed and had heat warmers, which we were thankful for as it was quite cold outside. The service was good, we were getting checked on regularly and didn't find it too hard to ask for any service needed! The pickles we ordered to start we're just ok, I think I'd skip that if I were to dine here again. For the sizing and flavors, it didn't seem worth the cost. The fried tofu was quite flavorful with the generous seasoning. The Thai tea was quite sweet, but not the sweetest I've had (which is a great thing!). Normally it's way too sweet, but this was ok! I think it was needed because the heat from the Fresno chiles in the green curry flank steak plate was real! We didn't think we'd feel the heat, but it was definitely there haha. The prawn curry was tasty with the addition of all that lemongrass. I love lemongrass so it was a wonderful dish. I liked it better than the steak dish. The Paella dish was probably the most underwhelming. It didn't feel like it was unique enough for me to order again. Almost felt like just another seafood fried rice. I thought the portioning would've been a bit more too, but they did fill it up with seafood though. All in all, I think with the nice service and some solid dishes, I'd recommend this restaurant for a nice dinner out. A great Treat Yourself day or take a friend out for a birthday meal. There was some nice outdoor seating, but it was way too hot, so we opted for indoors. The fried potatoes were amazing -- perfectly crispy with a really tasty sauce. The chilled tofu was fine -- super soft, almost melt-in-your-mouth, with a nice spicy kick. The curry noodles were delicious too. We stopped in at 1:45 p.m. for lunch and we were able to leave just in time for them to close at 2:30 p.m. without feeling unwelcome or rushed. Every staff member we encountered was extremely nice and helpful. The decor was really cute and there was an elevated casual feel to the place. I appreciate that their menu had gluten free items labeled, and to have more than just curries and Pad Thai as the gluten free options. We started with the Thai Iced Tea and I chose the Coconut Milk on a whim, not thinking much of it. What came out absolutely blew me away; it was such good quality coconut milk, and it had a little bit of saltiness to it, which perfectly enhanced the sweetness of the tea. It was so much better than the standard Thai tea mix you'd get anywhere else. They even served it over mini pebble ice, which seemed to keep the tea from getting watered down too quickly. Absolutely loved it and will think of it fondly when I'm craving a Thai iced tea. Our server recommended the lettuce wraps to share and they were incredible. There was plenty to share between two of us. They're a little spicy if you're not able to tolerate any heat. I got the Tom Yum Noodle Soup and my colleague got the Massaman Curry. We really enjoyed our dishes and our server was so friendly. This is some of the best and most unique Thai food I've had in a while! read more

First time actually allowed in. Heard so much about this place. Stopped by 1 time at 4:59 (they open at 5) to be told they are sold out. Okay! Never told, make a reservation or whatever. So tonight, did the same thing 4:59!, and they took our party of 2 to the Covid Shelter they are still using as a restaurant. Curt treatment and like we were getting a favor. Drafty space. The "today only" shrimp dish was 3 shrimp for $16. We ordered. Yuck. 1 shrimp was so overcooked it basically disintegrated. One was one notch better (like about as much meat as a baby's pinky finger). The other, what the other's should have been. The service was pushy about ordering our meal, but we did. We did not get the shrimp main because the other appetizer was SO BAD. We ordered, and at the same time a pricey bottle of wine. Our initial cocktails were gone. It was forever but they finally brought the wine and shortly after the food. It was OK. The beef special was super overcooked and leathery. We made do. The space was loud. We were offered the dessert menu, but declined to finish our wine and perhaps have another glass. Immediately the bill arrived. We decided to see if we could move into the bar and finish a glass. They said that area was for other guests. Okay. Not gonna do that, but also having another glass of wine in a loud, brightly lit Covid Shelter was not the vibe. We promptly paid the bill ($200, so not anything to sneeze at in this economy) and each had 3/4 glass of wine to finish. The hostess came over and curtly said, "Hurry up, we have a reservation for this table." REALLY!?! Would you have hurried us out like this if we had bought dessert? We are pretty fast wine drinkers, so we weren't exactly lingering. AND it took YOU 25 minutes to bring the wine in the first place so again, REALLY? Super overrated. And very rude. I guess right now that's their trick, get you in, pressure you to order food and wine and then present you with a bill that gives you 3 checkboxes - 20%, 25% or 30% tip - and once they have that signed, they hurry you out - LIKE WITHIN 1 MINUTE FOR REAL - and bring in another sucker who has heard of the place. Maybe they are better if you make a reservation or who knows what else, but count me out forever. Not only am I a detractor but also a vocal one. Anyone who asks me going forward will hear about this. In this economy, being treated like this for a $200 meal is just unacceptable. I came here for lunch with friends one day and we had a great time! The inside of the restaurant has lots of booths for you to sit at as well as bar seating. Service is fairly quick, and kind. My friends and I ordered the boat noodles and the curry noodles. When the boat noodles came out, my friends and I were surprised and hesitant by the dark broth of the boat noodles, but in the end, it was so delicious. The broth was rich, full of flavor, and felt like a sweeter version of pho. The portions were also big and the protein was generous. I would love to come back to try their dinner menu! read more

With seating indoors and outdoors (the outdoor seating is covered which makes it perfect if you want to visit during rainy weather, as it also has space heaters), there a decent amount of space for all. We got 2 appetizers and 2 dishes to share between 3 people and that was plenty! The tofu and potato appetizers were so good, I could eat those all day and be content. The yellow curry was good and had a good tangy flavor to it. The pad see ew was delicious and the noodles were cooked to my liking. Definitely was to come back and experience the dinner menu. Finally came back again for their fried fish salad and it is still so delicious and one of my favorite dishes. We were a little sad that they no longer give you the whole fried fish, that has always been my favorite item on the menu. The two specials, crying tiger and the chicken satay were both delicious, definitely recommend sticky rice with the crying tiger. The passionfruit coffee tart was my favorite of the two desserts but it did not have too strong of a coffee flavor. read more

Start to finish everything was fantastic, lovely staff. Very welcoming throughout our experience, from making reservations to walking out the door at the end of our meal. In a city where service isn't always a highlight, this is a gem! We started out with the Kua tofu, lots of flavor packed into this unsuspecting little dish. Next we had the Thai paella & the green curry, both were fabulous (loved the spice in the curry!), but the layered flavor in the paella was *chefs kiss* perfection. For sides we chose the Mon Tod, all I can say is do not sleep on this dish! We tried a few different cocktails but the fave of the table was definitely the Pink Pony Club, bright & mildly sweet, it paired wonderfully with everything. Prices and servings do reflect this. They have a nice bar area, and plenty of seating. I went for lunch so we did get the lunch menu. For drinks, we ordered a Thai Tea and a Curb A-Peel. I absolutely loved the Thai tea!! So flavorful and rich. Also they use nugget ice and I am obsessed. On to the most important part, the food. We ordered a plate of the Gai Tod and Curry Noodles. I've never had either before this location but wow, i think the bar is set pretty high! Gai Tod was perfectly crispy and paired amazingly with the sweet sauce they serve it with. Disclaimer this review is definitely biased due to my personal taste. So I really don't like cauliflower and I realized quickly that Phuket and their sister restaurant Eem are all about putting cauliflower in their dishes, including blended into sauced (and the white curry). Still I heard great things about these spots so wanted to try them at least, but found I could indeed taste too strong of a cauliflower flavor in the massaman curry I got which ruined it for me. Still everything tasted well made but nothing really impressed me. I also got pickled veggies, Mon Tod (fingerling potatoes tossed in a sauce), thai tea, and the thai tea tiramisu. All decent but was expecting more. They seem understaffed too and were definitely running all over the place but still pretty attentive so they got some good folks there. read more

Came for lunch on a Sunday at 1pm and ordered the gai tod, nam tok, and the Tom yum noodle soup. Not too busy on this day and time. All dishes were tasteful and spicy (which is must for any Thai place). The pork jowl is the perfect cut and you can't mess it up! I also enjoyed the sauce that came with the chicken. Phuket Cafe continues to be a date night favourite for us (along with the special occasion chef's tasting menu: Langbaan). We love the cozy, elegant ambiance and service is impeccable. We prefer getting a chef's counter seat as you get to watch the chefs at work on the Japanese hibachi grill and enjoy the delicate aromas. The food and drink are always incredible. This is upscale Thai, not your classic dishes like Pad Thai or Pad Kee Mao. They have amazing pork bites (add sticky rice), fried pompano fish, fish collar (special), Thai paella, and many other incredible dishes. We have loved everything we've tried. The cocktails are great too. Right now I'm enjoying the Mary MacGregor (a scotch based cocktail) and my wife is enjoying the Charm Garden (Gin). The waitress just brought out the special: Grilled Lamb Belly and omg it's is incredible. We should probably try other restaurants but this one is so amazing. This evening update: This might have been our best meal yet. The grilled cabbage and panag curry were amazing too. Also had the pork bites which we always get. Cozy and chill ambience, Phuket Cafe was great for a group dinner with friends. I love the wooden interior that mimics traditional Thai houses. This contrasts their vibrant colors really well. Their food and drink menus were also very creative and enticing. A modern rendition of traditional Thai dishes. Family-style is encouraged. I tried the Mary McGregor for drinks and it's smokey and complex. The Copacabana Punch was a favorite at the table. We got a few dishes from each category to share for food. We started off with the Thai Pickle Plate and Gai Tod for snacks. The pickled vegetables were tasty but the amount given was a tad stingy. Gai Tod, on the other hand, was more generous. Super juicy on the inside while crispy on the outside. It had a very karaage-feel. For mains, we got the Thai Paella, Panang Curry, and Pork Chop. All three were delicious and the highlight of the meal. The Thai Paella was super unique. Fluffy rice up to while the bottom formed a crispy tasty layer. The clams on it were very fresh as well. The Panang Curry had great flavors, not very spicy though, and came with a perfectly cooked Wagyu steak. Lastly, my favorite, the Pork Chop. It's a deconstructed laab which was, again, very fun and unique. The pork chop itself was soso tender. Would love to be back for this. We also got one side of the Eggplants which were very well-cooked over open-fire grill. The creamy texture paired well with the crispy shallots on top. Service was great as well. We had a great time.
