Pros Great selection of drinks and almost all of them can be made spirit free A decent selection of alcohol free drinks Enjoyed our drinks Good service Cons: Guacamole with peanuts, blue corn chips and plantain chips fell flat. The guac itself just didn't taste good to me. I'm an adventurous eater and like new things, but the peanuts on top of the guac didn't do anything for me. The highlights: the setting is very aesthetic and when it's nice out they open the window and it basically feels like the whole restaurant is a patio! The drinks were great and my favorite dish was the jackfruit tostada. The server we had was super friendly too! The lowlights: I went with a friend and we shared the Lechon dish, the tostada, and the tostones. The tostones came with fry sauce which I thought was weird. Why not like an avocado crema or a salsa? The Lechon dish was honestly pretty disappointing. The meat was tender but the rice was clumpy and soggy, and it was just sautéed onions and black beans. Felt overpriced for what it was. I'd go back for apps and drinks! But the mains just seem pretty expensive for something that isn't going to like knock my socks off. read more

Gratuity completely depends on the quality of customer service and should be discretionary. Because of this practice I will not be returning nor will I recommend this restaurant to friends. read more

The guava margarita definitely had a punch to it so lots of water to balance it out but the papa doble was just right. Camerones criollo and lechon asado were both tasty. Lechon was super tender and full of flavor! Loved the rice and picked veggies that accompanied it. I dined here with both my Madre and sister for the collaboration with Plant Based Papi curating a phenomenal plant-based menu. We tried all three dishes on the menu to share tapa style. Both the team at Palomar and Plant Based Papi made dishes that were not only delicious, but also were thoughtfully created and unique. Update: the smash burger (Frita Cubana) I mentioned wanting to try in the previous review is fantastic. It's a beef & pork chorizo patty, with thin potato string as a bed topped, cheese, onion on a brioche bun. I've had it 3 times at least. The patty is delicious and the potato strings and a perfect crunch. I usually get it with the waffle fries which are a solid choice. I can wait to have it again. The drinks are great too. I've ordered the Old Fashioned and Rusty Nail several times. The Old Fashioned is the classic drink with a Caribbean twist - coconut. It's definitely fits the vibe. The Rusty Nail is probably my favourite - a scotch based drink that has a depth to it from the papaya, cacao, and drambuie. All of the staff have been great. read more

Food: *I've forgotten the exact name of dishes* The shrimp dish with coconut rice was hands down the best thing we tried and I would come back just to eat it again. Steak was also very enjoyable, but with the price to taste ratio I probably wouldn't order it again. Fried rice was also good, but very soy sauce/ salt forward. Service: We made a reservation, but arrived early, and the host happily seated us early. Service was good, prompt, and we were checked in with regularly. We reached here at 5pm for dinner one day, because childcare! Glad that it turned out like that, because the place somehow looked beautiful inside with sunlight outside, and there was a calm inside which I really enjoyed. A very warm and welcoming space, as was the service! Then came the cocktail menu. Oh man- so many options. I could only try their Moscow mule, but probably the best I have ever tasted- so gingery. [Note to self: Visit often to try all their cocktails] The fried brussel sprouts and pineapple salad appetizers were both finger-lickin' delicious. I am still dreaming about those brussel sprouts!! Looking for a spot to grab a bite in between escape rooms and landed here. I got the ceviche and my wife got a chicken dish with rice and beans. It was all good, however the non-alcoholic drink that the bartender recommended was more of a mango lassi than a drink. It was far to thick/filling for me. Service was excellent, our server was great about cocktail descriptions, as well as menu substitutions. I don't see a TON of vegetarian options (rice and beans), and there is one vegetarian platos. There is a couple of pescatarian options (on the comidas and platos - one each), but the shrimp main dish has chorizo - but they were accommodating on removing it for us. I would have loved to see a fully pescatarian option on the platos menu. The food was good, great complex flavors. Probably my favorite were the crab fritters. read more

After a bit of careful research, I picked Palomar for a special occasion dinner for 2, only to be welcomed by the poorest attitude I have ever encountered from a service worker. I asked a simple question: if a drink on their online menu is available (the menu on THEIR own website)... Only to have the server respond with rude comment after rude comment: "I can't control what's on google!" (Again, menu on their own site, not once did I say menu on google). Followed by "Doesn't it say on there it's a sample menu only?" (Ummm no it does not). I really like Palomar - I always enjoy my drinks. They feel tropical and fun, but not as sweet, which is perfect. Some of the food has been really delicious! We really enjoy the ambiance (Miami vice vibes per Yelp Man)! Love the open windows. We had croquetas, ceviche, lechon mojo, fried okra, grilled pineapple salad, and vaca frita. Table was a fan of the fried okra and the Lechon! I was meh on croquetas and vaca frita. Pineapple salad was good, but not necessary. Yelp man feels he was pushed to a 4, while pulling me back from a 5. Yelp man wants to sit not perch, desiring more chair option downstairs, rather than stools. He also wanted a full set of silverware. Bonus points for sauce that came with the fried okra. In fact, he gives two thumbs up on all dips overall. As a non-drinker this place had fantastic mocktails. The wings are TO DIE FOR. The pork belly and shrimp fried rice is TO DIE FOR. We did it family style so that we could each try some of everything and those two melted my brain with how good they are. You'd expect either to be throw away menu items for less adventurous diners but to me, they were the stars of the show. The wings were crispy and perfectly seasoned. You could get that as a main and be really pumped. The pork belly and shrimp fried rice had tons of shrimp and the pork belly was nice and crispy all around. None of those undercooked soggy pork belly bites in this dish! Service is a bit slow if you go with a large group BUT that is offset by the fact that you can make a reservation in advance for a large group. Beggars can't be choosers. read more
