i came here on the 4th of july and it was the perfect place to watch the fireworks. it was quite busy but our food came out at a normal rate (except for 1 person's beef taco, that took 20 minutes but it's understandable). they have a patio and indoor area and they allowed us to walk back and forth to watch the fireworks. the food was pretty amazing but my favorite was the beef taco. it was genuinely spectacular and it was especially good with the queso sauce. out of all the seasonal items, i liked the tuna tostada the most. all the textures together were so so so good and i wish they had it year round. i would not recommend the chicken taco because that tasted like a regular taco. the drinks were also not my cup of tea, all the ones i tried had one ingredient that threw me off. despite that, i would love to come back here for the beef tacos and the queso sauce! it's pretty pricy but it's nice for a once in a while treat read more

Tope has colorful dishes, great cocktails, and rooftop view of PDX make it the perfect place to hit up this summer! Ask to sit outside. Watching the sunset over Portland with a drink in hand is half the experience here. We got a few tapas to share and they were picture worthy for sure. Perfect for the mems. Five stars for the rooftop views! If you want a cocktail on a rooftop, you found it. While we got a table pretty quick, the server took a long time to greet us and get us water, at least we had a view! Cocktails are okay, but nothing special. Chips are delicious, but the amount of salsa and guacamole you get is insulting. You will be out well before your chips finish. We got the queso, too, which is almost worth it. $8 and $14 respectively. Tacos were okay, but light on filling for price. $7/$8. Beef Ribeye was the best one. Wow... just wow. This was an awesome dining experience. The biggest challenge is finding a good parking spot. Once inside the hotel you hit a peaceful calm. We had a reservation for opening time so we jumped in the elevator. Oddly enough, it wouldn't go up to the top floor until opening time. So the 8 people that piled in all sat there looking at each other for a few minutes... We got a sunny table inside with a great view of the city. The service here is fantastic. Very attentive! We go our drink order in first and the cocktails were fantastic! I tried the Tope margarita and it was refreshing and had a nice kick! We ordered apps and tacos. The food comes out when it is ready, so plan accordingly. The queso was a great choice. It is smooth and the cheese blend is full of flavor. Went in a little skeptical because of the current rating but I had a really good time! Space is immaculate. Tons of seatings with a huge fireplace, very romantic and perfect for a date night. Got to try their Chicken Tinga Tacos and they're delicious! Spicy and tender. Also they packed the tacos full of it. The sauces and toppings went really well together too. Wish you could pick different kind of tacos rather than get three of the same thing though Their Esquite Salad was super unique, using popcorn instead of real corn which added a lot of crunch to the salad. The delicata squash and brussel sprouts were also good in it. Service was also swift on a weeknight. Overall, had a really good meal in a super nice space so can't really complain. However, there wasn't a discrepancy between the regular or happy hour menu from what I've seen between the prices on IG and its current menu. I've been here twice now. It's a cute location in Northwest Portland near Chinatown. There is a nice rooftop bar and a fireplace inside of the restaurant with great views of the city. Go during sunset! How disappointing. We had friends come in from out of town and they wanted to try the restaurant in the hotel that they were staying in. The Hoxton. We went upstairs and we're seated. The place was exceptionally loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation. The hostess brought us a bottle of water that only filled three of the four glasses. The waitress took forever to come take our order. We each ordered two tacos. Not only did it take between 45 minutes and an hour to get our food. The only people at our table they were asked if they needed anything else to drink. Where are the people that ordered alcohol. My wife and I had Diet Coke and the waitress ignored us completely. I had to flake her down and ask her if she could refill it and I got a snooty look in a 15 minute wait. Once the tacos arrived at the table, the King on one plate. Everybody's order was on one plate. We had to ask, which were which. The worst thing is it was one taco short. We had to ask the waitress to go get another one. The tacos themselves were very small for the cost. The food on each one was not much. But we didn't have any choice in the matter if we wanted to eat because tacos are about the only thing on the menu. 4/5: Rooftop view, ceviche win, but still no toilet seat covers. Our unplanned visit to Tope on 7/23/2025 was a pleasant surprise after wandering around downtown. Located inside The Hoxton Hotel on the corner of 4th and Burnside, right next to the Dragon Gate entrance to Old Town, this was the only place open at 4 PM, and it worked out well for us. Our party of three was seated on the rooftop patio, where we caught a clear view of Mt. Hood in the distance and the Broadway Bridge to our left. About one-third of the rooftop had shade from the building between 4-6 PM. The space also has plenty of indoor lounge seating, and only the rooftop and part of the indoor dining have those views. We ordered the only two mocktails on the menu at $9 each and found them well balanced and enjoyable. Our friend got the La Bodega ($18), but we forgot to follow up on her opinion. I ordered the Rockfish Ceviche ($21), which was generously lime-marinated, to the point that I didn't need the extra lime wedges I asked for. That almost never happens. I'd gladly get it again. A new line on our receipt caught our attention: "3 Kitchen Appreciation, $1.50." We asked our server, who explained it is automatically added to support kitchen staff when food is ordered. We didn't confirm whether it's per person or per dish, but the charge was $1.50 total for the three of us. Restroom note: Located at the rooftop lounge level are three gender-neutral, single-stall restrooms. Functional, yes, but no toilet seat covers, which loses them a star. The hotel itself has a well-air-conditioned lobby and plenty of relaxed seating at street level if you're waiting for a table or need a cool down before heading up. The rooftop patio was filling quickly while we were there. Views, casual vibes, and thoughtful service made this visit worthwhile. We'll likely be back for ceviche and rooftop when we're in the area again. read more

We love the ambiance and all the ideas at Tope. What we didn't love was the food. It was ok but nothing AMAZING or out of the ordinary. The homemade tortillas were not good. Dry and tiny. The flan was ok, but super cute in skull shape. The food presentation was good. The ceviche/aguachile served over an open bag of Doritos was our favorite and was delicious!! There were some "food critics" there when we were there and they were being treated like kings. Annoying for us to watch honestly. Our server was GREAT - but she pronounced pollo with an "l" sound - "polo" and another kind of basic Spanish word on the menu but I can't remember what it was. I think you should have your servers practice pronouncing the menu items. It should be required. Overall this place is ok - but not WOW. We expected it to be WOW! read more

Came today for Cinco de Mayo. Which btw Mexicans don't actually care for this day, it's a heavily American tradition. Anyways, the ambiance is great. Nice views of Mt Hood and the Eastside of Portland. Good vibes overall when it comes to the ambiance. Has a cool chimney with seating around it. The food, extremely overpriced. $7-$8 for a TINY taco. My barbacoa taco had a pinch of meat. Mostly tortilla. For a "traditional and Mexican inspired" taco place, you would think it would be better. The tortillas, were the biggest disappointment. This seems to be another "trendy" and extremely overpriced "Mexican" spot. Oh btw, every single staff member is white, lol. It took way too long for a server to come take our order too. Great views!!! Have been wanting to come here for awhile, a fun rooftop experience. It was a beautiful day and a bit windy... be forewarned (ladies and gents with hair down) but if you go inside no problem and still good views. Prices are decent but definitely priced around a rooftop vibe (higher end), drinks were delicious and the food was good. Really loved the chips, salsa and guac - a little too pricey but still yummy. They did allow a chip refill for extra cost. Drinks were tasty, more on the pricey side for cocktails. We shared a plate of tacos and were able to split them from 3 to 6, very filling! Mexican based food was good just a little less flavor than we are used too (could be to help with the crowd not being used to spices?) The staff was incredibly friendly and the service was good. We called and this place worked to squeeze our party in for a great first dinner in the city. Natessa was everything we could ask for as a server. On point and informative for first timers. Not a bad seat at Tope! My date and I arrived on a busy Saturday night without a reservation, and, after learning that it was graduation day in PDX, we were honestly unsure if we could even secure a table. However, the vast bar-style seating or outdoor seating made it easy to find somewhere cozy. The team at Tope is welcome and gives guests a good amount of space between orders. They are clearly good at their jobs, coming in just when you need a new drink, more food, or help in any way. We decided to go with the recommendations of our server each time, except when ordering food. The menu is limited with food options, since the focus is predominantely tacos. The ceviche is well made, with great tortilla chips, seafood, and sauces. I would say that it is one of the better ceviches in Portland, so enjoy! I really enjoyed the views on a stormy Saturday, especially when seated near the fire pit, which sends out a good amount of warmth. The sunset reflecting a rainbow of colors off of the towering building around us was romantic. read more

We ate here in May 2024 on a whim after loving the menu. Arrived without a reservation and did not have to wait to be seated at the bar we figured we could get a table after drinks but the place was packed inside and out. Naturally the service was a bit slow but the bar was attentive with drinks I loved the decor, they've got a kind of organic modern theme going with a lively environment that's great for happy hour. We ordered each of the margaritas on the menu (shown below) they were great, nothing lift changing but very well balanced. For food we had the Chuletas al pastor which was really great the pineapple habanada salsa with the red mole was yum-my!! Not pictured is the Birria Torta as I ate that so fast I didn't have time for a photo needless to say that is good as well although the rolls were a bit harder/crispier than I would have liked. The only thing good about this place is the view and how the food tastes. The proportions were incredibly small but admittedly tasty. Service was left more to be desired. Waitress solely talk to acknowledged me and did not even ask my dinner guest what it is that they would want. Just kind of like a glance in their direction and then proceeded to walk away. I don't know if this is normal but not a huge fan of how they were treated. Which is why this four star is more of a two star. Please do better read more

Me and my gals were looking for a rooftop bar and Tope popped up first so we decided to give this place a try. We were in aw of the modern interior decor and we came right when the sun was setting so the view was stunnnning!! They were out of a lot of items on the menu when we came, was kinda disappointed bc it was only 8pm when we got a table so we had to ordered whatever was available to order. I knew what kind of establishment Tope was so my expectation for the food weren't high and I was right the food was just mid- for the price I thought it would taste better but nothing really wow me. Its definitely pricy but you pay for the view here. The rooftop patio was full so we didn't get to sit outside to enjoy the view but overall I think Tope is an okay spot to try if you're looking for something new and catch up with friends. Note: Parking is somewhat hard because it's in downtown/ chinatown but I think there's a valet available in front of you need help. What a great little place! Right on the edge of Chinatown, just a step beyond the Chinese gateway, lies the Hoxton Hotel. The area outside is a bit "sketch", as they say (similar to our Chinatown here in Vancouver, BC, sadly), but this hotel seems super cute, and the lobby is really cute. On the rooftop of this hotel is the Tope restaurant, and my kid and I dined here the evening of Cinco de Mayo (which was so fitting, as this is restaurant serves Mexican cuisine, in smaller plates, like a tapas style). I was really impressed by the outdoor patio and the view of the city. This patio is large and would be phenomenal to dine here on a summer evening! Lots of string lights and comfy seats, and a view that's fabulous! The interior of the restaurant is also pretty cool, with a large, square, central table with a fire pit in the middle (my kid and I sat at this table), as well as a casual counter along the wall along the whole restaurant perimeter, so you can sit and see the city skyline wherever you sit. There's a full bar and they serve amazing artisan cocktails. I forget what I ordered but it was beautiful and pink and delicious. My kid loved her cocktail as well. And the food! SO SO good. I was a little worried as I can't tolerate hot or spicy foods, but everything we had was so flavorful without being spicy. We ordered the ceviche with shrimp (our favorite dish! SO good), a chicken dish (I forget what it was, but it was delicious), the charred peppers (very tasty. My kid loved them and had had them before on a prior visit here), and our delicious cocktails. The plates were perfect for sharing and, if we hadn't been planning to go out for dessert afterwards, we probably would have ordered another dish or two. But our three dishes were the perfect amount for a light dinner, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Our server was very helpful in advising us about the drinks and the dishes, knowing I can't do spiciness. And she was attentive and friendly, too. Bonus! Great spot for a lovely dinner! First thing that comes to my mind as I write this review is the beautiful space -very minimalistic and industrial yet has a very inviting vibe. The outdoor patio is definitely a showstopper and I wish I had been here during summer to enjoy it. Our friends made reservations, and we were seated immediately as a result. The drinks arrived soon and were followed by the food. We shared a portion of the chips and guac/salsa and then each one of us got a separate entree . I had the Polo Pibil Tacos and the hubby got the Al Pastor. We loved both the food and drinks and felt that the portion sizes were just right. We stayed in the Hoxton over the weekend and decided to try out the rooftop restaurant and we were really happy we did. The space is very modern and bright. The outdoor space is clean and inviting with a view that will make you glad you came. We got there just before sunset and there was a full moon so it was really pretty. The food was really good too. We got chips, guacamole, and salsa. The chips were made fresh and served warm. Salsa and guacamole were flavorful. We also tried the chorizo empanadas and liked those so much we ordered a second batch. We then shared the carne asada which was on special. Was cooked to perfection but we both felt could use some salt. However when we added the guacamole and salsa it was fine. For drinks we did a spicy margarita and that was good too. Definitely a rooftop spot to come for the vibes. Located in Chinatown parking here can get a little tough but they do have valet if you don't get lucky. Be sure to set a reservation in advance especially in the spring/summer since you'll want to be sitting outside to enjoy the sun!
