Oh, I'm not happy about this review. The set up is amazing, so cute and hits all the notes of lux and comfort, and the service is so amazing--but the food and the drinks...? I was expecting scones, fresh pastry and maybe clotted cream (in my dreams). None of that. Everything was almost frozen or just lacking in flavor. Each bite was worse and worse. But the tea is outstanding. For 30-ish, I guess that's what you get. I love the idea, and the space and the people are tops, again, but the "tower" is not it. I went with 5 girlfriends for the High Tea at Abigail Hall, on a Sunday afternoon, 1 pm. Delicious tea, cute room, but pastries are ok. The tea service takes less than 2 hours, so I'd recommend going elsewhere if you want to spend a long time "spilling the tea" with your friends. It's a cozy place, but I expected more pastries and some better quality ones. Corn cake was hard, cookies weren't the best. So I think the savory pastries were better, worth starting by them. Have you heard about this little quaint tea spot named Abigail Hall in the Woodlark Hotel? My mom and I hit it up for our ongoing mother-daughter tea tradition, and it was mostly a hit, but with a tiny miss. The place itself is super quaint, chill tucked in the back of the hotel. Open on Sat & Sun with reservations only. It's perfect for a relaxing afternoon, and honestly at $38 a person is a great deal for a high tea experience. We got our tower of yummy bites and a good Smith Teamaker Tea. (One pot per couple you can add on another for a minimal price) They also offer cocktails with some fun names. Service was a little lax and they totally forgot our cocktail order, so we barely had time to sip our drinks once they arrived. Also, my "Kind of a Tart" drink was a huge flop! It was a slimy, coagulated mess with that egg white foam. Seriously, a major bummer! It either sat too long or was made in a hurry. It didn't look like another tables drink I had scoped out prior to ordering. Thankfully my mom's drink "LA MONJA ROJA"(strawberry tequila with a kick) was absolutely delicious, not to mention beautiful ...saved the day! Stopped in here just before 5 o'clock opening and was the first one in. I loved the Abbi burger and I also love the french fries which was. The drinks were good a little bit small for this alcoholic, but still they were well-made and very flavorful and still, you know had the appropriate amount of alcohol so I can't complain. Pro tip: enter through the front door of the Woodlark building on Alder. They are way in the back if you just keep walking back and on the right. Brought a friend here to celebrate her birthday and it was a perfect experience. I read a lot of reviews saying how bad the food is - it wasn't as bad as described! That said the radish sandwich on milk bread was dry, the strawberry scone was odd & overly sweet, but all the other food was delicious. The savory scone and smoked salmon tartlet were the highlights. They have an European inspired buffet that includes a main dish between avocado tartine, waffles and breakfast sandwich. I had the avocado tartine. Bigger than I thought. Lot of salmon and avocado. The afternoon tea was all style and no substance. We went for my birthday and it was such a disappointment. The ambience was beautiful and the Smith tea was great but that's where the positives end. Like the other reviews said, the service was lackluster at best. We were ignored and had to get our own water. They offered to bring me a candle for my birthday that never showed up. After looking at pictures of previous reviews, the food has only gotten smaller with a $10 hike in price per person. The pickled egg was inedible and the Brie sandwich was old with stale bread. This left me disappointed and at this price point (with tip and a 3% kitchen charge for opening a bottle of wine automatically included), I recommend skipping. read more

Abigail Hall has definitely considered all aspects to pull together an experience for their customers that they will always remember and long to come back for again. So different from the plethora of bars in Portland, Abigail Hall has an old world charm. Dark and cozy, with lots of curved, tufted booths and furniture. With dark green floral wallpaper that works as the perfect backdrop to the candlelight, sconces and pink velvet curtains. The Art Deco decor, fireplace and crown molding with detailed coffered ceilings really works! Now that I've set the scene, let's talk about the cocktails. Oh, my! Each has been invented and tested - these bartenders really take their trade seriously - to create unique and delicious adult beverages. I stared at the menu forever, wanting them all! Even some that were based on liquor I don't drink. Rum, I'm talking to you! The Chai Masala Daiquiri sounded so good! Next time, I'm going for it. For my first drink I chose the Bergamota, as did my two friends! Three of us Yelp Elites decided to meet here to get to know each other in person. From our choice in drinks, clearly we have a lot in common! The Bergamota had a Blanco Tequila base with bergamot, fresh lemongrass & dry Prosecco with a makrut lime leaf artistically attached to the glass with a teeny tiny clothespin. The glass was as unique as the cocktail; the long, thin stem with a small glass perched on top. My only complaint is that it was too small! Please, consider offering it in two sizes or make them by the pitcher. Seriously. This drink is a *winner* in every way! Prices for drinks were on the higher side, even for downtown, at $14-16. So for my second, I decided to go with a drink that came in a larger glass because the Bergamota went down way too fast! Jacinta, our fabulous server, helped us all make decisions based on the alcohol and flavors we prefer. The Royal Equestrian Ballet is their version of a Mule, which I often drink. So many unique ingredients in their version - East India Sherry, Clarin Casimir, Ginger & Galangal smoked in white oak with pineapple, lime and seltzer - come together magically for a smooth, refreshing drink with a slight kick. We stayed for quite awhile, chatting, getting to know each other - although we seemed like a group of old friends. The bartender came over twice to see if we enjoyed the drinks. A big YES on that! And Jacinta, our server with the gorgeous name, did the same. Since there weren't many other customers there on this Thursday night, and we were approaching 9:30, I felt like we were keeping them although they gave us no reason to feel that way. Then I noticed a DJ setting up and was confused so I asked Jacinta what they were setting up for, the next day possibly? Jacinta laughed and said that Abigail Hall is super popular on Thursday nights and that usually, the place is packed. Really? Well, five minutes later large groups began to enter and the once intimate room was bustling with chatter and laughter. Good to know! On our way out we checked out the bar, which is set up to be beautiful and functional. I noticed a charming bar cart with a tea set on top and made a mental note. Guys, Abigail Hall didn't give us a night out. They gave us an experience. Everything from the lighting to the scent of the place was carefully curated. The wallpaper, stunning, coupled with the pink velvet curtains. The old Craftsman detail on the woodwork and fireplace and ceilings!! Gorgeous. The seating is cozy as it's mostly circular which brings intimacy to the environment. I could have stayed all night if life permitted. 5 stars for atmosphere and comfort. Jacinta was our server and she was perfect. Just kind, sweet, got all our names, made drink recommendations and gave us the perfect amount of attention. Not too much but never let us run out of water OR feel rushed to leave. 5 stars for service. Around 9:20 we saw speakers and turntables being set up and asked Jacinta what was going on and she said they are usually packed on Thursday nights and it must be the nice weather that's keeping people out. This review is only for afternoon tea which was a pretty dismal affair. The ambiance is nice and the crockery is good (2 stars for that) but that is where the "good" stuff ends. We chose the jasmine tea which tasted like warm water (too little tea leafs imo). The food was boring and dry. The dessert tier was a joke with a simple cookie and a tiny muffin. What bothered us most was the service or the lack thereof ! The server (male) couldn't care less to attend to our table. Probably the fact that the tea service along with 20% gratuity needs to be prepaid caused the service to be so dismal. That was also delicious and poooo-tent! I had a nice little buzz after that. The decor is absolutely beautiful and was candle lit. A group of friends set up space for us here for drinks and dinner before the ballet. I genuinely would not have chosen this and plan to go back to give this space a better run. I just know what not to do in downtown and our group did that. First of all - Saturday at 5pm in downtown Portland...especially at or around any hotel...locals just say no because you have lots of options to avoid this scenario. Trying to park anywhere around Alder is unfun. We did have room but the entire space was full and most of the people in our group took over an hour to get their food orders. I knew better, brought cash and ordered two drinks like a pro. My friends all had to leave fast because they needed to go to the Keller whereas I parked a few blocks up between this bar and the Newmark Theater which is where I was going to see an event since I also know better than to Keller on a Saturday night. The food I saw looked delicious and the staff was pretty friendly an seemed remotely interested but again, it is hard to gauge on a Saturday crazy busy night. I felt bad as a I watched very hungry friends waiting and waiting for food. I was not a fan of being challenged ordering a pretty simple drink. W had one menu - not wanting to fight for it to hunt down some annoying drink - I just went with a go to raspberry kamikaze, it's easy and each bartender has their own take plus even messing it up tastes ok. I spent way too much time with eye contact from the person taking the order. I was confused as to the blank stare and she said she would have to ask if they had raspberry anything....seriously? They did and it was delicious though a touch tiny. From other reviews I see they offer a high tea though it seems a bit booked. I do want to give this spot another go some evening. I visited for High Tea this past weekend and the service was absolutely terrible. They never checked on us and when they finally came around with more hot water we used that opportunity to ask for some cream but they never brought it to us. The server was also pretty rude when telling us to put the tea leaves back for the extra hot water. The next time they came around was to tell us to leave because our time was up... The place is super cute but not worth visiting. The food was also really dry... the best item on the tower was the Poke. They need some serious customer service training. New kid in town! Opened only a couple of weeks ago and I think they're already doing great. Super cozy spot in the back corner of a hotel smackdab in downtown. Lovely the mismatched but complementary decors and furnitures inside, making the place fun yet approachable. The staffs are all still very new but super friendly and helpful. We're there on a not super busy day but service was a tad slow, but I'm sure they'll get a hang of it soon. Their drinks were very fun. Definitely try the Masala Milk Punch, which is a house cocktail. Also, their take on a Frend 75 that I don't remember the name of was great too, ask the people there about it. Apparently, they're coming out with a new all in-house drink menu in Jan so that should be fun to check out; I totally will be especially now that I know that they also do high tea service!?!? Went in a group of 4 for afternoon tea and it was such a wonderful experience! When you make the reservation, you pay in full which also includes the service tip. The ambiance when you first walk in is breathtaking. Picture dim lighting but floral wallpaper covers the walls, leather booths and pink velvet banquettes, and lovely tiled floor. We felt very calm and classy in there. They also offer cocktails to purchase as well as cbd drops that you can add onto your experience. For our group of 4 people we got to share two tea pots and two towers of food which included tea sandwiches and sweets. My favorites included a beet and blood orange goat cheese sandwich and a chai spice scone with apple butter and honey butter. This is a great place to go for afternoon tea. The walls are hand-painted mural by local Portland artist Michael Paulus and gives the place an old ,intimate feel . The drinks were all fabulous , I mean there is nothing that you can go wrong with .All three of us had the same drink in the first round and loved it and decided to get different ones the next round & I feel the reviews stayed the same - Everyone loved what they had . The presentation , the flavor profiles and our server Jacinta`s recommendation all hit the spot. My only complain would be that the drinks came in such dainty glasses that we were left craving for more .What we had - Bergamota , Chanel-tini ,Ru-paloma,Royal Equestrian Ballet - All fabulous drinks that you can't go wrong with . Reservations are required online, which I made several weeks in advanced. You also have to pay ahead of time with gratuity included. I didn't mind because we could just leave at the end of our tea time. The week of the reservation, you receive several reminders of your reservation time and date. I appreciate the reminders, since I can tend to forget with my busy schedule. It did feel like overkill though since it was sent on consecutive days. The down fall was when my friend and I arrived for our reservation, they could not find me on the list. How does that happen? Luckily, they were able to still seat us. However, for the number of reminders I received, I was taken back when they couldn't find my reservation. I've been to a few different high teas, in Oregon and outside of Oregon. This is the only place I've been to where we have to share a pot of tea. For the price, I feel like we could be offered the option of having our own tea selection. Had I had the option to pick my own pot, I would definitely have gone with a different tea. We settled for the jasmine pearl tea (teas are from local teamaker Smith Tea). It was tasty, but not my first choice. If you were interested, there were cocktails available to order. We did not partake in the cocktails, so I cannot speak to it. The sweet and savory bites were all pretty tasty. The bread to the mini sandwiches were a bit dried out around the edges. There was nothing that really wowed me, but nothing I hated either. It was all just okay. We had some confusion of where Abigail Hall was. There isn't any signage. Initially we walked around the perimeter of the Woodlark Hotel and didn't see any indication of where Abigail hall was. I can see on the website now that it states it is located on the first floor of the hotel, so that is on me for not looking more closely. So for those who are going in the future, don't expect to see a sign. There were tables, booths, and couches. We were seated at a coffee table with two loveseat like couches facing each other. Reservations fill up quickly, and you pay ahead of time at about $47/pps, gratuity included. It's nice not to have to collect a check at the end of service. The space is lovely. Think old library with box beam ceilings, huge draperied windows, and a beautiful, green-tiled fireplace. There is an amazing, serpentine banquette in the middle of the room. This would be a remarkable space for a small, private party if they do that. Upon arrival we were invited to select our tea cups. This was the first disappointment. I approve of the fun and beauty of mismatched China patterns, but this wasn't that. There were a couple of lovely, vintage tea cups, but the rest were an uninteresting, beige-ish '70s pattern. We were taken to our marble topped table and presented the tea and cocktails list. We were entitled to share one pot of tea. This is a mis-step as far as I am concerned. While I realize we could have purchased a second pot if we did not agree on a type of tea, it would have been more appealing to each have our own and drink what we chose. We selected a not terribly interesting Earl Grey. They provide a five minute timer for steeping with instructions that they'll bring the tea treats out as the tea is ready. Once I poured my tea, I noticed a lipstick stain on my cup. While the server got me a new cup and a new pot of tea to replace the poured cup, our timer started over again, so while we now had tea from the first pot, no snacks had been delivered. We were probably 20 minutes into our reservation by the time the tidbit tray arrived. Again, no special dishes, just a plain white tower. What a missed opportunity for beautiful presentation! As for the treats, they were similarly unadorned. Everything looked the same and beige. It wasn't even pretty enough for a picture. Every sandwich was on the same bread and cut to the same shape. Yawn. The items: Smoked trout sandwich: best bite of the day, served with roe Golden beet sandwich: weird, with citrus and hazelnuts Cucumber sandwich: standard Gruyere cougere: a tiny profiterole which would have been better warm or at room temperature but was chilled A blueberry thumbprint cookie: yawn Orange scone: yawn Ginger biscuit: scone redux Raspberry financier: a bit doughy Where was the flair? UPCurrently a one as we got here at 4:57 with 3 people waiting for them to open. Went to the Loo and came out at 5:00 sharp to a HUGE line. They stopped seating people at 5:05 so the bartenders could "catch up" on making cocktails... So here we wait. WORTH the wait!! Go.... Go now! Don't ask questions and do not pass go, just GO!!!
