We lucked out coming in to snag the last few available seats. The shop is beautifully designed but on this rainy day, their outdoor seating was closed and indoor seats were limited. Their food menu was limited but tempting. The chips and olives were great. Pro tip: check in with Yelp to get a free sparkling cocktail! Our server was great. It was our first time here so she gave us the run down. Not an open bar. All drinks are premixed. Just pour so you can purchase bottles for home. They make great gifts as well. Never been to this place before, but passed by it sometimes on my way home from work and the wife decided that we should do a cocktail making class together and man was that a great choice as that was the first time I've ever done anything like that. Some of the drinks are really strong but very flavorful and have a spicy kick to it but there's one soft fruity one that's a sour and man that go down dangerously smooth, and when I say dangerous, I mean you could drink a lot of those and then it'll hit you later. Great instructor as she is also a vendor for OMSI events and was very helpful and really good at teaching the class. The service and ambiance was above and beyond! i had tried Straightway Oregon Old Fashioned on our Alaska Airways flight to Oregon. I was not prepared for the little can to be so powerful! 80% proof even in a cup of ice it was still quite strong. However, mixed with seltzer water in ice dilutes it smoothly. While in Oregon, we decided to stop in and try a two cocktail samplers, we choose which ones to include and the ones we knew we wouldn't like. Samplers came with snacks to pair them with to have a distinct platte flavor. Our host was very informational, welcoming and had us try drinks that would surprise us as well. It was a nice and cozy enviroment, but towards the evening it started to get busy before we headed out. If there were more seating and a spacious environment I can definately see this potential spot with more clients coming in. This review is much delayed. I have visited Straightaway's location on Southeast Hawthorne a few times, all quite a while ago now. But there are times that they pop into my brain, because their aesthetic, their customer service, and their fun flights are so memorable. So I should go back! This little shop is quite small, it could fit maybe 20 to 30 people at one time. Usually, though, when I've been, there is space to sit. There are some shelves for browsing goodies to purchase, and the counter upfront has always been staffed by someone really friendly and helpful. Their taster flights are almost like a tea service. With five samples of alcohol and matching snacks, it feels really fun. I have liked most if not all of the pre-mixed cocktails I have tried from them. While visiting I also had a jalapeño cheddar Dapper Dog and it was quality. The drinks were light and fairly flavorful but not sugary, so it's nice for a drink or two while hanging outside at the park or something but I don't think I'd have more than a couple. You can choose from their options of full size cocktails, cocktail flights, Accompani (aperitif and vermouth) flights, and spritz flights. They even have a non alcoholic option and carry some light snacks. We went with an Accompani flight, which was served with seltzer on the side to mix in. Their coffee liqueur, made with Stumptown, was by far our favorite - it was so deep and rich and smooth. A perfect sweet sipper on its own or mixed into a White Russian! I also enjoyed the Blue Doris and Flora Green. The staff were super friendly and walked us through all the options. They also had their own cocktail mixing tips which I appreciated. It's so warm and cool. The perfect description of Straightaway Cocktails lounge on Hawthorne. I want this lounge to be my living room. At a recent craft show I sampled several of Straitaways cocktails and took home a bag full. Today I ventured into their recently opened space and had a sampler. Once again, taking home more goodies. Walked in and was immediately served their signature drink the Lintik. A lemon gin drink that melts the day away. Then explored the variety of amaros, spritzers and cocktails on display. We got a sampler of 5 for $18 that included olives, potato chips and chocolate. These amaros knock your socks off and the chips were a perfect palate cleanser. My personal favorites: Last Word Spritz, Paper Plane and Marigold. I'm not a gin fan (sorry, not sorry) and their gin cocktails were amazing. Excellent service, great products, beautiful space.
