Silk Road is sick -- honestly, that's the headline. It's one of those places that doesn't really need a long explanation because the vibe hits you the second you walk in. The food is genuinely excellent, way above what most people would consider "bar food." Calling it a bar almost feels wrong anyway. It's much closer to a lounge -- or better yet, someone's very cool living room that just happens to serve great food and drinks. The space is intimate, low-lit, and comfortable in a way that makes you want to settle in and stay a while rather than rotate out for the next group. Drinks are fun, creative, and clearly made with intention. Prices are on the higher side, but that's city dining -- and here it actually feels justified. You're paying for the atmosphere as much as what's in the glass, and in this case the atmosphere delivers. Overall, the ambience is very intimate, relaxed, and just plain cool. Honestly, the food is delicious and definitely worth trying! However, the logistics hold it back a bit. The online reservation system is kind of a hassle to deal with. They serve Chinese food that's pretty good. This is a sister bar to Lulu's. The tall burnet female receptionist needs better training to be more accommodating and friendly. We ordered a lot of food and were weary we could not finish before our reservation time. We sat in a larger booth so we had to leave when the next party of 4/5 showed up. There were other empty seats, although reserved for much later. The receptionist could have moved us to the reserved seats because those reservations were scheduled for much later. read more

I saw everyone ordering the pandan drink - will have to get that next time. My table loved the egg rolls the most as well as the noodles. I enjoyed the dumplings too. Interesting that you have to order and pay at the bar, was kind of awkward reaching over people who are talking and eating and order over them. The cocktails range from classic with a tropical or herbal flair to straight-up tropical and are absolutely delish. The feel is relaxed with the perfect touch of upscale-romantic 1920s-1970s jazz club glam. The music speaks to my soul; it is predominantly a fantastic mix of 30's-70's R&B, soul, blues, and jazz, with a little more modern mixed here and there. The service is expeditious and attentive without being obtrusive. The drink I'm enjoying in the photo I've included is the Sesame Street Colada. We just had post-dinner drinks at the bar but we enjoyed all of them! It's a dark, sleek art-nouveau-ish vibe and if there's not a seat at the bar, there's a little ledge area where you can linger. And - bestill my heart- both the bar and the ledge have purse/coat hooks underneath! The only weird thing is the bathroom: it's in an alleyway, closed off from the bar itself. THAT GENERAL TSO CHICKEN!!! Literally my favorite menu item and it never fails me. Idk if it's common in Portland or not but in NC it is hard to find a great place to get Chinese food... I might be picky but I want my Chinese to taste like this! This was my second time at Silk Road. We did have a weird encounter with the guy at the front who for some reason didn't want to seat us and told us we had to wait and then when another staff member came over they seated us immediately but other than that my experiences here have been good! Interior is stunning. I've sat at the bar each time I went and service was always attentive and pleasant. The waygu dumplings are sooo good and the eggrolls taste just like my grandmas! I didn't love the drinks but that won't stop my from coming back and trying new ones. Highly recommend. Plenty of parking around! Silk Road caught my eye as soon as it opened because uh....the cocktails, the interior, the food!? All of it looked amazing. I was finally able to grab a resy and make it there with a friend a few months ago and gosh, the interior is suuuch a vibe. So cozy without feeling too small or crowded. The one downside I will point out is that it is QUITE loud inside. Maybe I'm at that age where I don't love shouting at the top of my lungs to communicate, oops aging myself. You order at the bar and they bring the drinks over which was nice. I had the taipei milky way because how could I pass up on what sounded a delicious alcoholic milk tea! It was a great balance of tea and alcohol which was good. Service was swift and kind and I will definitely have to go back to try to food because we'd eaten dinner and stopped at 1 other bar before we'd come in to Silk Road. Drinks were unique, tasty, and fairly priced for quality and quantity. I have heard a lot about this place and was excited to finally try. The ambiance is very chill, chic, modern and perfect for a weekend night. It stays open late, the staff are amazing. This restaurant is a vibe-y asian inspired low-lit bar with high ceilings that plays bedroom style music and is perfect for a date night (assuming you like the person you're on the date with) or a small group for drinks. The comfortable plush chairs and booths (even the bar stools are comfy) offer a such a r ambiance that if you feel like having a good cocktail and dish solo, you can do it without fear anyone will come and hit on you. Basically, it's an extroverted-leaning introvert's dream bar. The food is delightfully flavorful play on Chinese American fare. Some of the best dishes include the handmade dumplings filled with wagyu beef, the cucumber salad and my absolute favorite, the wok's fried rice. Did I mention all wheat/gluten free!! The service was excellent, the bartenders are sociable and talk cocktail-speak fluently--and they're also willing to put together something novel with unique ingredients like lemongrass sassafras-infused sherry, macadamia nut orgeat syrup, shiitake-infused vermouth, and lemongrass coconut milk syrup. I've heard great things from friends as well as comments on SM about Silk Road and I was not disappointed. I was surprised by what I thought was a small but limited menu, only to discover that while short it was absolutely delicious. Not having to deal with pages of food items on the typical Asian restaurant menu, SR hit the mark. We ordered the cucumber salad and let me tell you this isn't your father's cucumber salad. It will definitely be a staple on our return visit. We also ordered Chow Wow Noodles (I thought I was eating Waygu), Silk Dumplings and Chili Wontons ( and both were killer). There are no waiters, but rather you cozy on up to the bar and give the bartender your drink and food order. The bartender asked if I had been to SR before, but if not, you are going to love your choices and he was absolutely right! The ambiance was great and the only other comment I would add is the cocktails which were expertly made and delicious were rather small for the price, but the rectangular shape clear ice cube was cool. The vibe is sophisticated yet fun and the bar was jampacked with a very young clientele on this particular evening . We were promptly ushered to the bar area and left on our own to hunt for a seat which we found fairly quickly with the use of a few elbows and shoves lol . The menu had some great selection of Chinese American cuisine from General Tso`s chicken to chow wow noodles . We had the Chicken wings , Dumplings , Tso chicken. I would say the food was fantastic because we have already had some before we came and still ended up ordering a few things . Bartender was super friendly but unfortunately the old fashioned and espresso martini were the worst we've ever had. My OF was so weak and watery and had barely any liquid in it. Her EM was warm and tiny. This place is somewhere in the middle. With so many great Portland options, I'm not dying to go back, but it def delivered on food and atmosphere. It was nothing special. There was nothing unique. The drinks were not our favorite. We had a mezcal based drink which promised notes of coconut and fruit. None of us could taste anything except smoke. Another melon drink was too sweet for any of us. The General Tsos was General Tsos. The dumplings were good but I have had better. The noodles were normal. Wings and ribs were also unremarkable. The egg rolls with honey mustard dip were a bit odd. The highlight was the side of chili oil which offered complexity beyond the chili flavor. Chili oil should not be the highlight of a meal. The restaurant itself was beautiful. There was a great jazzy playlist on play which added to the atmosphere. Decor from the tiles on the wall to the dish wear all spoke to a trendy sophisticated vibe. Service was not good mainly because there was no service. For the price and atmosphere of this restaurant I expect table service. Instead we had to order our food and drinks at the bar. This would normally not cause me to rate the restaurant 0/5 for service but the staff we did interact with were not helpful. Incorrect items came out of the kitchen for us. This perhaps could have been from the bartender trying to understand our order over the music and people at the bar. A friend of mine took one sip of her drink and hated it to not fault of her own. It was not what was advertised. She told a staff member this and he shrugged. She asked for a side of juice for her drink and he willingly got it for her. The drink still went untouched and there was no follow up. We all agreed that though we never would have wanted a refund for the drink or a new drink made, the staff should have offered. All of these sound like little things but, paired together; they result in service that is just lacking which can't be the case when you expect me to pay 17$ a drink. Also to note I did rate this lower than the group I was with. The majority rated this a 6 or 7 out of 10. read more

Absolute home run! What a little gem in the pearl this place is! And at only 9 months old, they are killing it!!!! Came in for a Wednesday night date night last week and was shocked at how absolutely beautiful the ambiance was. For our bellies, we ordered General Tso's, wonton soup, dumplings and fried rice. For our livers....i can't remember but all three drinks were impressively delicious! Honorable mention was the soup and the Tso's. I've never in my life had chicken that tender and flavorful. My tastebuds were very thankful for my decision to nosh on this little treat! The soup was sadly a special. I would send the hubby for a bowl any time I was sick or hankering for that broth. Something from the heavens!!!! The fried rice was amazing. Loved the stickiness but I will say I wish there was a smidge more sausage but only because we were fighting over each morsel!!!! Mmm... Came for a weekend trip from Seattle with my boyfriend. All I can say is one thing about this place: Amazing. Ambiance was perfect low lighting, upscale cocktail vibes. The staff was super friendly, and the drinks and food came out quickly, especially for how jam packed they were. The cocktails were yummy, the food was delicious, hot, and fresh. We got the salt and pepper calamari, silk dumplings, chow wow noodles, and general tso chicken with a side of rice. Came here for drinks after a lovely dinner at Andina. This place is gorgeous and the staff was so kind and welcoming. I ordered one of their signature cocktails (the Green Machine). It was amazing. I wanted another drink and asked the bartender to make me something with gin and lillet blanc and he whipped up something I really liked. Definitely recommend making a reservation. This place is very well lit and the volume for music is phenomenal. I'm able to hear the folks I came to be with without shouting and at a comfortable volume. The music is also so good! I am a big fan of the fact that there were numerous gluten free options on the menu that created an inclusive feeling with the friends I went out with. The drinks are very good and something fun, they've all got their own twist to them that I really enjoyed. My only complaint is going up to the bar to order when it's packed is a tough challenge and just feels like you're in everyone's way when there are people seated all around it. My wish is that there was a clear ORDER HERE section that didn't put me in another patrons way or space. Besides this, I like that after I do get my order in and go back to my table it is brought out to me at the table I've found myself at. Will definitely be going back just for that dish. The menu is pretty small but what I had I liked. The dumplings and noodles were enjoyed but others in my party. The setting is intimate and dark. Not a good option for large groups but would be a great date night location. The service was order at the bar which isn't my favorite but didn't have to wait in any long lines as some places with that type of service can be. The calamari might honestly be some of the best I've had--and I'm picky about calamari. I've also tried the General Tso's chicken, which was solid, and the Silk Dumplings. The dumplings were decent, not my favorite, but still worth a try. What really makes this place stand out, though, is the service. Though the food was just your average Chinese cuisine with fancy names, I adored the amazing ambience they provide for the guests. The reason why I give such a negative score is because they charged us a 20% tip the next day without disclosing us beforehand, creating a lot of confusion to our party. They required us to order and pay for food at the bar BEFORE we even got the food, so we didn't think tipping was an option. We would've left a tip if they had provided us a receipt at the end of the night, but the bartender didn't even give us one upon the payment. Such a misleading way of practice.
