This is a really fun spot with a wide variety of cocktails and mocktails available! I appreciated that the mocktails had actual names; it's so annoying having to order a "nojito" or "mockarita". I tried the Wounded Path which was pretty good. A few friends tried the Gin Fizz which they enjoyed, and it was a cool novelty cocktail. The outdoor seating is nice, and it's heated, which is great for these chilly early spring nights. There's a pizza place attached - Pan Con Queso - and a Korean fried chicken place right next door, both of which will deliver your order right to your table inside Holy Ghost! Pretty slow service (always a line at the bar) but otherwise really cool spot. Would love to check out Drag Bingo here! read more

What a great cocktail bar. The name alone made me want to go. We tried so many drinks from both the alcoholic drinks to the n/a drinks since my friend is sober, and I loved them all. They were all perfect The Gin Fizz was delicious even if you aren't a fan of gin. The foam seems to defy gravity. Just know it takes a full 15 min to make but the 15 min of shaking is worth it. I generally follow the 15-minute rule. If I'm not acknowledged with something as simple as "Welcome," "How are you?," "Can I get you a menu?" or "I'll be right with you," I leave. Basic hospitality should never be optional. I genuinely love the ambiance of Holy Ghost, which is why this is so disappointing. Unfortunately, atmosphere alone cannot overcome consistently poor service. My family has owned a major nightclub in Portland as well as multiple Greek restaurants, so I understand firsthand that customer service begins with leadership. I've visited Holy Ghost three separate times, and each visit has been the same experience: no greeting, prolonged silence from the bartender, and staff more focused on their phones than the guests in front of them. This isn't simply an issue with individual employees. It reflects a breakdown in training, standards, and management. Those responsibilities ultimately fall on the General Manager and leadership team. I've seen Holy Ghost packed, but being busy should never be confused with providing excellent hospitality. Some of Portland's smallest dive bars consistently deliver warmer, more attentive service than I've experienced here. That's a difficult comparison to make because this bar has so much potential. I hope ownership takes an honest look at the guest experience. A great concept deserves a team that's just as committed to hospitality as the space itself read more

I love this place! They have really great and unique drinks. They've arranged a couple of nearby food establishments to service the bar (both are really great!) so it's a really fun experience. They host different events as well. My favorite is drag bingo! Gave 4 stars because sometimes the service can be a little slow due to only a couple of bartenders working. Fun little neighborhood spot! I ordered one of their classic Ranch Waters - soo good I had to get a 2nd cocktail here again. They have plenty of open seating and big natural light windows. They have a great menu of N/A and even low proof cocktails. Service was a little slow with just one main bartender, but she was working fast and friendly so I will roll with it here. I also love that they have classics like a Ramos Gin Fizz that is made with a special machine. I've been to Holy Ghost twice now and I love it! The decor is very cool and the music isn't excessively loud. In fact this time they played 70s hits all night, which was amazing. A lot of their speciality cocktails have tequila or mezcal which isn't my favorite but they still have good options. The cocktails I've had there are some of my favorites anywhere: The American Pie and Copacabana! We love that we can order from the pizza or Chinese restaurant next door and they bring the food to your table in the bar. read more

Popped into Holy Ghost yesterday because I had heard great things about their alcohol-free cocktail menu. I'm not doing a full Dry January, but mocktails are trendy and I wanted to try them! Located on SE 28th, street parking only. The bar has a cool atmosphere - neon signs, large art pieces, a sunken area, and a fire pit outside. Signs say to order at the bar, but they mean to order specifically at the portion of the bar that doesn't have seating. Their entire menu looks really cool but I focused on their alcohol free section. I got two drinks: the Chai Town and the No Worries Fizz. Both were delicious. The chai was fresh and warming. The fizz took about 10 minutes to make but it tasted like cotton candy. At $11-14 for a mocktail, they're a bit pricey. But they definitely show this team knows how to make good drinks. I think I'll be back for some cocktails! read more

TLDR: Highly recommend this spot! We'll be coming back for sure. Check out my notes at the end about how things seem to flow. We visited on a Saturday night and it was understandably packed. Unlike with other spots, there was a quick moving line at the bar so folks were guaranteed to get their orders placed. The drinks were awesome (we tried about 3 plus a bubblegum shot), and they felt worth the price. The ambiance was comfy, friendly, and cool. They played 80s hits while we were there, which I loved, and then segued into slower, more mellow beats later into the night. Next time we may try some food. My friends and I wanted a more low key New Year's Eve, so we ended up at the Holy Ghost Bar. The bar was decorated with Christmas lights, has a beautiful mural of a woman on a couch holding a fan on the left side of the wall, and a skeleton hold a fan on the right side. There are seats around the bar, standing tables, a sunken area, and an outside patio with a fire pit. We were able to score seats at the bar. Although it was fairly crowded, our server and bartender, Sid, was still attentive. We never had empty glasses for very long. They had specials for NYE in addition to their regular cocktail menu. Sometimes craft cocktails miss the mark for me...Not here! I did not try one single cocktail that I did not enjoy! The cocktails were masterful and delicious! My first drink was their Ramos Gin Fizz. I am not a huge gin fan, but I decided to try it anyway, and I loved it! The foam from the frothy egg white towers over your glass, and the orange flower water gave it a hint of a delightful floral taste. My next drink was their American Pie made with Maker's Mark, amaretto, applejack, chai syrup, egg whites, and apple bitters. It was a perfect cocktail for a winter day. Feeling curious, my third cocktail was their Pad Thai. I wondered what peanut butter would taste like in a cocktail? I only tasted a hint of peanut butter, but instead, was hit with a sweet burn on my tongue from the Thai chilis cazadores reposado. It was sooo good! I ended the night with an Espresso Martini. It had the perfect taste of coffee and three decorative coffee beans on top. The bar also allows you to bring in food from the neighboring restaurants, 28 Tigers and Pan Con Queso, so we ordered two pizzas while we enjoyed our cocktails. Been wanting to check this place out for awhile and I'm so glad we finally stopped by. We found off street parking right in front of 28 Tigers on a Friday night. We sat at the bar and perused their extensive menu. Very cool vibes, the space is huge. We started with the passion fruit marg and Folsom prison. Both very delicious cocktails, so we had to get another round. This time we ordered the acid trip and the cap girl. Again, it hit the mark. Prices ranged from $11-18 for cocktails. Service was quick and efficient. Our bartender (I think Mitch?) even gave us some local recommendations. Drinks came out quick. Food is available to order from 28 Tigers next door and they will even deliver if it's not too busy. We didn't try that food but the menu looks amazing. We will def be back! read more

Holy Ghost Bar was an unexpected stop during a pleasant weekend. A group of us came here and inside the bar was packed and the volume was loud. It was challenging to hear each other and impossible to find enough seats for us. Then we spotted some picnic tables around a fire pit and beelined our way over there. That was awesome as we could clearly hear each other, it was cozy, and the fire warm. We took turns grabbing cocktails and it was easy to see why it was so busy. Despite a line five to six deep the bartenders took everything in stride. They gave their full attention to the person in front of them. The cocktails had fun names and each was delicious. I stuck to margaritas and enjoyed I could pick my own salt rim. It was a great evening here and would love to return one day. read more

Tried Holy Ghost for the first time this Saturday and it was cute. I liked the decor, there's a variety of seating options and a nice dog friendly patio. The drink menu is also pretty cute, with some kitschy drink names somewhat typical of trendy portland bars. I totally appreciate that though. They have a good variety of margaritas and several unusual flavors so naturally we had to try them. I had the CHAI Margarita, the BANANA Margarita, and the WATERMELON margarita. The watermelon flavor was great, not too sweet. The chai was also good, I liked the spice and the banana was solid but that one had the lightest flavor notes of the three. It's nice that the electric pizza company shares a patio and Chinese food from 28 tigers is available from the bar. I tried both of those as well. In good weather I definitely recommend this bar. Later on we brought our pooch to the patio and everyone was pretty dog friendly. This is a great place to enjoy a drink if you have your furry friend with you. read more

Wow. Every bit as cool as I had hoped. What absolutely SHOCKED me about Holy Ghost was the size. From the many reviews I had read, I thought it was a really SMALL venue! It's MASSIVE! Thankfully so, since it was fairly busy when we got there just before 10pm, and there were plenty of tables both inside and out. It's a very nice bar, asthetically pleasing, with a lot of seating options. If you're a couple looking for an intimate two top, they've got you. A big group that wants privacy, big booth towards the back. The music is fun, standard bar music, but not so loud you can't hold a conversation. We chose outside, since with another heat wave headed our way, the cool air was all too nice not to enjoy. I got a Pearl of the West, my husband got the Yes, Queen. I also did a share on the Mezcal flight here. I'll tell you about the flight first. We shared absolute top shelf Mezcal at the first spot we did a flight, so this was incomparable. They all tasted relatively the same with nothing notable. They weren't bad, they just weren't excellent. The Yes, Queen was not my taste AT ALL but my husband enjoyed it. He said the same of my Pearl of the West. I am remiss not to have gotten photos of the drinks but I will be back. The drinks were great and we barely started trying out the menu. The Gin Fizz looked amazing, as my friend got it and I took a short video of the shaker machine. SO cool and the way it looks when it's served is incredible. Dropped by Holy Ghost with a couple of friends on a weekday and was happy to see some empty booths~ woohoo! You can grab a seat and then order at the bar or vice versa. They have some really interesting themed drinks that are nice to look AND delicious -- love innnovation when it doesn't sacrifice taste~ Our drinks came out pretty quickly and we all enjoyed what we got. I got the 5 minute gin fizz and it was definitely worth the wait. It was light, refreshing, and just the right amount of alcohol. Definitely something I would get again. Foodwise there's a pizza place attached to this bar where you can grab some goods to enjoy with your drinks. Otherwise, a little sparse. Parking wise -- street parking as usual but this is in a pretty residential area so you shouldn't have too much of a problem. They also have a great ambiance with how the bar walls are decorated, an interesting menu and a great location - not only can you get great drinks here, but you can order from the next door Chinese place 28 Tigers and they'll deliver to your seat if they aren't too busy. We were here on a Monday night between 630-830 so it wasn't very busy. That was perfect, because it meant we didn't have to wait to order drinks (which is important since it takes time to make a great cocktail!) The bartenders were friendly and skillful. All the drinks we tried between us were very good and I think we had something from every category. The banana margarita and the Sir Wellington stood out for me in particular but I can't say enough that all the drinks we had were very good!! With so many of my old favorites closed, this may now be my favorite cocktail bar!!! read more

Walked in there at 8:30 pm to grab a pizza and a beer before a movie and as soon as we got there no longer than 30 seconds the red head bartender refused to serve us. She thought that because my girlfriend tripped over her heels a little she thought we were drunk. We hadn't had a drink all night. She seemed young but very arrogant, probably new but still just horrible, horrible service. The movie Sinner's was awesome, this place not. Just not professional and really annoying. Manager needs to train staff better. Forget this place and move on to the next. Edit: in response of the owner. This is offensive to me and my character. How can we be sluring our words when we never had a conversation with the bartender. After standing around for a second and finding a seat first and only thing she said was I can't serve you. And again we weren't even drinking. Maybe if she would had greeted us and talked to us for a sec she would realize that maybe she was wrong and you guys could had taken my money and maybe got a an awesome review. All the 1 star reviews are saying the same thing about shitty unprofessional staff. I get being a business owner and making sure everything runs smoothly but to not teach your staff to even try to establish a relationship with your customers, to be cold and rude is not the way to do it. I lived near this bar for 21 years. It was called "End of the Universe", back then. It closed for about 10 years and was vacant with boarded up widows. Then some construction started... and then covid hit. Finally the bar is up and running! I had been waiting forever for this! Sadly, the bartender was a total grump and even my biggest tipper friend, didn't tip. I tipped a dollar on a $7 beer. The bartender also came over and said our phones were bothering some other customers & to turn them down, grumpy again. That was weird considering the music in the bar was loud and only one friend had their volume on (normal level) to show us something. What was fabulous was the ability to order fantastic food from the Chinese restaurant next door (28 Tigers) and have them deliver it to you. Our gal was super accommodating and came back twice, with paper pates and chop stix. I'm glad I tipped well in advance (you order from a QR code on the table and they will bring you the food if they have time. I tipped well, hoping they'd find the time to deliver to me - and they did) They will be getting 5 stars. The place is rather cool inside and I would go back with old friends in the neighborhood - but when the staff is frosty, it doesn't really inspire one to promote it to others. read more

I really like Holy Ghost, because it is good people watching and they have a big selection of mezcal, as well as low/no alcohol, if you're into that kind of thing! The interior is pretty huge and open, with very cool art. It's just got a cool vibe. The downside is that both times, me and friends have had to stalk and then retreat to the small patio space the instant any seats opened up, pretty much because it is SO LOUD. As in, hurting our ears and requiring yelling and we can't have a conversation loud. I guess this makes us sound like old people, lol, but it does detract from me being able to recommend it wholeheartedly. Another thing about the patio; you will likely end up sharing your table with strangers if you are not a large party. Which is fine, it just more speaks to the fact that the patio is always packed. Parking is pretty easy as it's in a very neighborhood zone. I've never ordered but it's nice that you can get a bite to eat from the neighboring small business. read more

Dropped by with friends on a weekend evening and was pleasantly surprised by how big the space was. There is a lot of seating both indoor and outside as well as a covered back patio. The indoor space is dimly lit and the brightly lit bar accompanied by the large windows on the other side take centerstage here .Agave takes up a large portion of Holy Ghost's impressive 400-odd bottle collection, and many of the cocktails .I knew I wanted the Gin Fizz even before I came in and that's what I ordered . They have a bubble tea shaking machine to do the aggressive and Intense shaking work for them. It took a solid five minutes to make but was totally worth it. I highly recommend it . The hubby shared a mezcal flight with my other mezcal loving friend , however they were both only slightly amused by the options . The bar shares the building with two other restaurants and relies on its neighbors to cover the food, focusing entirely on drinks instead. I would definitely go back to try more of their extensive menu and it looks like a really cool spot to spend a nice summer evening. read more
