There's a small indoor space but the biz shines in summer when the roll-up garage door can be open and the dog-friendly outdoor seating is plentiful. It is LITERALLY a basement in a 4-story home right off of the street. I have a little bias here as I stayed right behind this bar in an Airbnb when we were in Portland to visit for fun. Regardless that it was literally less than 100 steps away from our spot the beers here were fresh and cold and the alcohol was a'flowin with the locals and regulars that you can tell that The Basement Pub is THE spot to go to. It seems like they have rotating events here to include maybe chess night during the week. We know because when we went downstairs for a draft or two before exploring the rest of Portland I noticed every yellow (and cute) picnic table out in front had some serious chess players hanging out. In terms of other games there are a couple of pinball machines inside as well and a super chill relaxing patio out in the back of the bar. Inside seating is plentiful and I love that there is a barstool for every open spot around the bar. Cocktails were fantastic here as was the draft beers. I was happy to find almost all local drafts available which made me super happy to try everything at least once in the times we came here to hang. There was no "checking of vaccine cards" here. Everyone at this bar, staff included, were super friendly and nice. As a Texas girl you have to trust me on this one - it was easy to strike up a conversation with anyone at the bar. We had a good time telling everyone how much cooler (literally weather cooler) Portland is compared to Austin (home for us). Garrett was super helpful and we talked a bit about what I was thinking, and found three options within my budget. We settled on a fun but not too crazy wine from the Canary Islands. He held the wine for me at the front and I was able to just grab and go later in the afternoon. The price was also just right, as it was listed for $18 more on the vino app. Came back in a week later for drinks and prices were also great with a 3 drink flight for $19 all with good pours. Had a chenin blanc, a chardonnay, and a Malbec. All were phenomenal and bar staff were friendly. This is definitely earned a spot in the rotation. Love it.

Parking was difficult as it was all street parking and we were unable to find any spots that felt safe within a few blocks so we parked in a parking garage and walked a few blocks. The bar is cute and tiny with energetic music playing and friendly bartenders. It is a bit hard to carry a conversation here so you really have to be in close quarters with the other person. The drink menu has many awesome rum drink choices and they do have a 4-7 pm weekday happy hour. Drink prices are on par with other bars that serve cocktails and on average about $15. They have food and snacks, which I did not get but looked like a decent option. They also have a small outside seating area. It was a great vibe and I notice a wide age group there. I asked the bartender how long they've been around and they said 15 years. I can't believe I haven't been here before. That do charge a 3% credit card fee so cash is king. I would definitely like to come back and try some of their other rum drinks. It does feel like they might be a little too heavy handed in the ice but the drinks are delicious and you can taste the rum in a good way.
