I am not a dive bar person... I have several reasons stacked up as to why - I am highly allergic to…read moreHops and Pot so getting stoned and tossing cheap beers back is not for me, nor is smelling it or people doing that since... yeah thanks no. A lot of dive bar food is made with beer whether the menu says it or not and it is usually just a tragedy. I get it - drunk folks do not care what they are eating but the menu is about the same at most places. A friend wanted to attend a Shakespeare interactive play here. Since it was starting at 7pm and I live in Beaverton I was not going to have time to get over here and eat so I looked up the bar online. I was curious at the Mediterranean food but also very happy since that is not made with beer. My friend arrived before me and grabbed up perfect seats. We realized it was going to be a full house so we had better order food which was super easy to do. Can I also throw in that on their wall behind the bar they have chips you can just grab from the bartender... FRITOS, which are one of my favorite things. But thank you - just that... I was not drinking and just having soda with the show and some food but I could genuinely see having a few drinks and just grabbing one for a small snack. Our food, even with the bussel busy Friday night, came pretty fast and all the folks taking orders and serving were super friendly, wanting to help. I wanted the chicken gyro but they ran out so I gave their falafel a go - the falafel was a touch on the over mark but was still pretty delicious and I opted for a 'side' salad which I thought was strange to upcharge $3 for until it arrived and was INSANE... so huge! I got a side of onion rings too which were ridiculously good...seriously some of the best damned rings I have had and I could not stop eating them so that, my friends, was dinner... I had to take most of the gyro and salad to go. That salad ...later...I had an avocado I needed to use up at home and with their dressing. It was incredible! Amusing thing is that there is a vegan restaurant my friend had wanted to try near here and we did. Had the WORST experience and this was perfect... when we are over here this just earned itself a place as a go to spot for me. I might even drink here sometime HAHAHAHA!

We've been here a handful of times but the service was horrible today. We stopped in for a drink…read moreand for some reason, the bartender took over 10 mins to make 2 mixed drinks and it wasn't even busy. Our friend order a shot and he waited longer than us. The bartender was taking so long to pour shots and make a mixed drinks that our 3 other friends walked out. We downed our drinks and left to go elsewhere because the service was soooo slow.

The restaurant is what used to be the lobby. It is known for being dimly lit, a little romantic, a little old school. They are open late when not a lot of other places around are, which is how I ended up here after another event. They have happy hour from 4-6pm and then a late night happy hour after 10pm. The building could use some love from its landlord. The toilet was leaking, there's asbestos wrapped pipes visible on the ceiling. We got: Soup du jour House salad Meze platter Kettle chips Spicy chicken sandwich Everything tasted great. I was pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes for the happy hour items. I would definitely keep this in mind for date night or as a late night spot when not much else is open.

Servers who must all be libras due to their homeyness--slash--poignant versatility that offsets feeble-minded Portland bartender ego and impatience. (REAL Kindness, you know...*tears up*). The happy hour is really special. Get a gin and egg white cocktail for $6-8! I moved away from PDX, but Sapphire is the first spot I'd return to. (I probably won't return to PDX.) It's sort of like if Rimsky-Korsakoffee House was a real Portland bar.

TPK Brewing - Yum yum bowl

TPK Brewing is a super fun brewery that Steve and I have enjoyed twice now. There is a lot to love…read morefor me with this brewery. The fantasy and the Dungeons & Dragons themes are really fun and totally calls to me. So therefore with our first experience here I stocked up on a lot of swag- shirts! My first beer with this brewery was a Red Ale or Amber Ale, The Lady of Embers. This was a very enjoyable first time beer with this brewery. Flavor features in this beer are Caramel, a roastiness, maltiness, biscuity and a dry finish. It proved to be a fun beer to try out for the first time and we were eager to come back and try more of their beers. A bit of time passed and we were able to do that. This time we got three different beers of different types to give us a well rounded experience with their beers. Cascade Falls was the first beer on the second experience that we delved into. This beer is a Cream Ale and I haven't had one in a while so I was quite eager to get a hold of another one again. This particular Cream Ale had peaches and vanilla as the primary flavors and they were pretty good. It was sweet but not heavy handed which made this beer pleasant. This beer was a collaboration beer with another brewery, Thunder Island Brewing Company. After that I moved into dark beer territory and got a stout by the name of The Ashbringer. This one I rated very highly on Untappd because I enjoyed the flavor profile so very much! This stout has flavor highlights of roastiness, a spiced presence, coffee, chocolate and some clove. It was a really well made stout...well balanced and one I really got into. I believe actually this was my favorite beer out of the several I have tried. The last beer was a Marzen beer, a type that isn't too terribly common but always a good one when I can get a hold of it. The name of this beer was the Hasta La Raiz. This is a nice light bodied beer that has maltiness, roastiness, some fruitiness and a bit of a floral presence. It was a fun one to try out for sure. TPK Brewing also serves food and it's quite good! We grazed off of several different appetizers here that we really enjoyed. The first one was the Yuca Frita which was Yucca cut into big, thick French Fries sort cuts and we dipped it into a green sauce as well as a pico de gallo type of dip which enhanced the experience. In addition to that we got a beef empanada that Steve and I split along with the same sauces...also excellent and then to round out our snacking here we got the Arepitas De Queso which is a white masa cake mixed with cheese and then deep fried. It also had the same sauces as the previous two appetizers but we were fine with that... we were all about it and deep into it. Steve and loved this place and would be thrilled to come back to enjoy more of their food and beers !

Warm, welcoming, nerdy, and friendly atmosphere…read more Did I mention nerdy? This is almost just as much of a D&D shop as it is a brewery! If you are not playing Magic the Gathering or D&D, you will feel like the 'weird one'! Beers are good, with a couple lagers, a stout, and some IPA's. The food is surprising! You'd think they'd phone-it-in, but there's a great selection of Latin food. Everything from Cubanos to bowls to burritos.
