I am not a dive bar person... I have several reasons stacked up as to why - I am highly allergic to Hops and Pot so getting stoned and tossing cheap beers back is not for me, nor is smelling it or people doing that since... yeah thanks no. A lot of dive bar food is made with beer whether the menu says it or not and it is usually just a tragedy. I get it - drunk folks do not care what they are eating but the menu is about the same at most places. A friend wanted to attend a Shakespeare interactive play here. Since it was starting at 7pm and I live in Beaverton I was not going to have time to get over here and eat so I looked up the bar online. I was curious at the Mediterranean food but also very happy since that is not made with beer. My friend arrived before me and grabbed up perfect seats. We realized it was going to be a full house so we had better order food which was super easy to do. Can I also throw in that on their wall behind the bar they have chips you can just grab from the bartender... FRITOS, which are one of my favorite things. But thank you - just that... I was not drinking and just having soda with the show and some food but I could genuinely see having a few drinks and just grabbing one for a small snack. Our food, even with the bussel busy Friday night, came pretty fast and all the folks taking orders and serving were super friendly, wanting to help. I wanted the chicken gyro but they ran out so I gave their falafel a go - the falafel was a touch on the over mark but was still pretty delicious and I opted for a 'side' salad which I thought was strange to upcharge $3 for until it arrived and was INSANE... so huge! I got a side of onion rings too which were ridiculously good...seriously some of the best damned rings I have had and I could not stop eating them so that, my friends, was dinner... I had to take most of the gyro and salad to go. That salad ...later...I had an avocado I needed to use up at home and with their dressing. It was incredible! Amusing thing is that there is a vegan restaurant my friend had wanted to try near here and we did. Had the WORST experience and this was perfect... when we are over here this just earned itself a place as a go to spot for me. I might even drink here sometime HAHAHAHA! read more

We've been here a handful of times but the service was horrible today. We stopped in for a drink and for some reason, the bartender took over 10 mins to make 2 mixed drinks and it wasn't even busy. Our friend order a shot and he waited longer than us. The bartender was taking so long to pour shots and make a mixed drinks that our 3 other friends walked out. We were meeting up with my friend's niece and she suggested here since it's in her neighborhood. It's a dive with some tables out in front. Drinks are strong! They have a number of TVs and a baseball game appeared to have everyone's attention. It started to rain and the bartender motioned us to come in. Very cool that he allowed Cako to be inside. We ended up eating there since they are adjacent to Kouzina's, and the small bar menu Angelo's has is cooked at Kouzina's. It just made it easier than going elsewhere. Great little hamburgers with my favorite crinkle fries. We also ordered some large mozzarella sticks. Everything was great, especially for a dive bar! Okay, now it starts to get entertaining. A young woman was feeling pretty good and teaching Cako "how to spell"...LOL! It was all very amusing! This review is for the new, 2017 expansion of Angelo's Bar (which has been there for as long as I can remember) into the restaurant space (formerly Fado) next door. Now Greek food is the order of the day. All in all, it was perfectly good, but the default accompaniment is to get fries with my gyro, and my wife received them as well with her souvlaki. The fries were great (crinkle cut, with tzatziki that made for lovely dipping), but I probably would have preferred a Greek salad or some other side instead. The salad was available, but for an extra charge. So, all in all, I was quite happy with my meal, though it didn't seem like the value that I tend to associate with Greek food. On the plus side, they had a lovely selection of beers to go with the meal, and I was informed that mixed drinks are also available from the bar half of the establishment. And the baklava made for a terrific dessert. read more

With a cheap prostitute you can overlook a few obvious flaws; poor dental hygiene, stained clothing and a vocabulary heavily laced with "baby" and "honey" are some that immediately come to mind. You don' mind these imperfections because quite honestly she's a cheap whore, not some high priced call girl plucked from a swanky hotel bar downtown after a half hour of witty back and forth. You go "in" with low expectations, looking for certain results that culminate in a happy ending; no thoughts of a pretty face, intelligent conversation or desire for a return engagement or a lasting reminder of the encounter. Now the same logic applied to an 82nd Avenue Ho is just as applicable when it comes to dive bars, as you must have same wiliness to ignore obvious blemishes. A good dive bar is cheap, it serves a purpose, and you sure as hell don't care if the drapes don't exactly match the carpet. Its not about the ambiance, the crowd or the cool factor, it's about getting your drink on at a good price. Yet as I would have to draw the line with a prostitute smelling of her own urine in a pee drenched tube top and mini skirt, I can't pretend the smell of other people's wizz wafting through Angelo's doesn't make it a dive bar whore that's slightly below my oh so cultured set of standards. It is hard to drink down a pint when holding back the overwhelming urge spew. Bars like Angelo's certainly have been done a disservice with the recent smoking ban; a smoke infested dive bar is something you expected, like a prostitute having bad breath with a slight hint of vomit, cigarettes and meth. I'd definitely rather hack up a lung then try to decide if tickling my taste buds with each swig is the rich flavorful blend of hops or the overwhelming smell induced flavor of piss. Which is sad, because Angelo's is otherwise a great dive bar. Cheap beers, great selection, and free pool in an unassuming environment right on Hawthorne. But I'm no R. Kelly and I'm not into water sports, so next time I think I'll find another destination for my drinking debauchery. read more

For many bars, a beer special is a chance to get rid of the shitty old keg that's been in the cooler for longer than the employees have been there. Angelo's says: "Sucks to your lousy beer specials!" Every night of the week, Angelo's features a great brew on tap for south of three bucks. The staff here is appropriately gruff without being being rude, and the cast of regulars is truly a sight to behold. On occasion (especially on a warm night), the crowd can teeter on the brink of getting out of hand, but I dig the occasional shot of adrenaline with a beer back. I have to take a moment to shout out for the stellar service I had at Angelo's the other night. Normally, I just go for a beer since they have such a nice selection on tap.I was celebrating my birthday. I was feeling fancy. I ordered a White Russian. It happens. The bartender acknowledged my order and then said he would be right back. About 4 minutes later he returned with a little bottle of milk. A bottle that he had just gone to the store and purchased, people! Maybe he made someone else purchase it or perhaps it really appeared out of thin air. I don't care how it got there, I still believe it was magic. It would have been so much easier for dude to tell me I was SOL at which point I would have just grabbed a beer. But I didn't have to. Good, casual hangout in Hawthorne This place reminds me of my friend's basement where his dad had an old jukebox that we would rock out to. Like his basement, there's nothing fancy about Angelo's. They keep it simple here with good, cheap beer, no booze, free pool and foosball, which are the best parts, and a crowd that you'll either fit it with or not. Either way, if you're just looking for a laid-back place to hang out and down a few with some old buddies, than this is the place. The staff will make you feel welcome whether or not it's your scene. This is a really cool neighborhood bar. I hesitate to use the words "dive" because it sounds so negative but it's kind of a dive. It's not fancy, upscale, trendy or equipped with a cocktail menu. But it's a casual little spot next to East Side Deli. They do bluegrass Wednesday nights. They have pint specials every night. They have pool tables, Big Game Hunter, Golf. Is there pinball? Went in today to check out their pinball selection and got the absolute worst service I've had in years. Yes, it's a divey dive bar. I would rather folks could still smoke inside to cover up the wafting urine scent emanating from the bathrooms in back. However, I've got many fond memories of hanging out here when I first moved to this fair city with my fairest of companions. It's got free pool all the time, a couple of good pinball machines, and always the latest and greatest version of golden tee. But best of all is the microbrew daily specials. Last night I bought three Ninkasi Total Domination IPA's for a total of $6.75!!! Each day is a different microbrew on special, and none of them suck: Terminal Gravity ESB, Ninkasi, Bridgeport IPA, Rogue Dead Guy...all for $2.25 a pint. We recently went to Kouzina at Angelo's to hear some music and decided to have a little bite to eat. .....Wow! Are we glad we did! The food was so good we asked if they did catering, and although they had not done it before, they kindly agreed to do their first catering job for us. It was a huge success; everyone loved the food, the portions were very generous, and each and every person we had contact with at Angelo's was lovely, helpful and positive. We ordered lamb kebabs which also came with tzaziki, beet salad with fresh mint, and their signature greek salad. Everything was so fresh and so flavorful. We were able to feed 40+ people for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner for an affordable price, and the bright and delicious food was perfect for a warm summer evening. We were considering Nicholas Restaurant, but Angelo's food was so much fresher tasting, and so healthy. The owners, Angelo and Sophia were just wonderful to work with, and the attention to detail was great. Sophia even sent us a thank you card after the event- a very classy touch! We will definitely be going back for food and music, and all future events at our home will be featuring their food!! read more

This place is nastaaayyy and I'm not joking, the men's bathroom has a distinct smell that is unlike anything I've ever encountered in a bar, the pool table is so crooked that balls just kinda roll around in random directions and I usually have to prop one of the legs up with my notebook if I even want to attempt to play a halfway fair game. However, I usually have a good time when I hang out here, the drinks are cheap and they have specials every night on different microbrew bottles that are very affordable.
