The lights at their bar are pretty gnarly

I'm newer to the area and was looking for a new chill spot to have a drink after work, B-Side was probably the best in my opinion. Reasonably priced drinks, great staff and the decor is real unique.

Bar hopping one night and stopped into this hole in the wall. The bartender was awesome, recommended places to eat and made great drinks. The vibe was very lax and I liked the music. Sat inside at the bar and was served right away. I would definitely recommend

This bar is an isolationist's dream. It's dark, gritty, and even when people are next to you shouting you don't really seem to notice them. The noise just gets drowned out by the eclectic art and black paint. And they even support local community groups: they sponsor a local dragon boat racing team! Alcohol and civic mindedness? I vote yes! The highlight for me was the bathroom. Every inch, mirrors included, is covered in pearls of wisdom and nuggets of truth. It was like being at a conference where Plato was the keynote speaker. But for the 2000s!

The last time I was here, I think people were still allowed to smoke inside. I don't smoke and don't like smoke, but the smoke might have made this bar. This is a dive bar. Nothing less. Nothing more. We tried to go across the street to Burnside Brewing, but they were closed on a Monday. Ended up here and they had a Burnside beer on tap. The Stock Ale to be exact. I decided to get it. Figured they brewed it across the street so it must be pretty fresh. I noticed a lot of signs and stickers about bacon in this bar. Not sure what that means. I thought maybe we'd see some giant plates of bacon coming out of the kitchen, but there was no sign of any food anywhere in here. Not that I was hungry. I just thought a place that serves alcohol has to serve some kind of food. Meh.

Perfect essence of a Portland dive bar. Looking for a place to grab a beer, B-Side was right across the street from our previous destination. The smell of old cigarettes hits you the moment you walk in the door, but the bar keeps are friendly and get your draft poured before you can change your mind to leave. After ordering our pints we found a place at the bar along the window to enjoy some people watching. With a host of magazines along the wall, one can be comfortable hanging out here by themselves while waiting for their comrades to join them. We were here right as the work day was wrapping up, so it wasn't too crowded. But visions of people standing elbow to elbow were definitely possible.

Like some of the people said, the B-Side is dark, smokey, and has a punk heavy juke box, and that is what I love about it.

The vibe is dive bar meets eclectic randomness, with weird things all around that somehow just work. They serve RC pop, which I loved. It's a subtle nod to how long they've been around and the fact that they're not chasing trends. The bartenders were fantastic. Attentive and personable, and they actually know what they're doing. They properly shake a martini, come to your table to grab empty glasses, and wipe down surfaces without making a production out of it. It's relaxed, but they clearly care. You can sit back and enjoy your own company or belly up and end up in conversation learning the history of the place. A little weird, totally unpretentious, and absolutely somewhere I'd go back to.

Like plethora of others in the reviews have mentioned, you are met with security that's far from friendly. My wife and I were greeted by security who held up his hand like he was holding an invisible business card. "ID" is all he said. Sure, no worries, we are in our forties. Hand it over. He then proceeds to ask us about marijuana products on our person..... WAIT, WHAT? This is the Pacific Northwest, my guy. I've seen legit bongs on curbside picnic tables at other bars (Thunderbird on Foster). But this guy wants to peruse your bags trying to find weed. I lied to this securi-nerd, and waltz'd past him. I'm a grown adult, my legal toking is none of your business. Took awhile to get two basic beers. We were met with smiles by staff, but they didn't ask us if we wanted a drink or menu. Finally someone came over and took our drink order. This was a one and done place for us. It has this fake feeling of a PACNW dive bar. It didn't feel legit. It felt put on. Noticed a large table of locals wearing "OREGUNIAN" sweatshirts, and the vibe at this place is just way off. I felt like I was on the East coast--not the West coast. Again, who asks patrons if thy have weed on them with zero explanation? Every single music venue I've been to in Portland could not give less of a crap about your weed vape, so why does this pretend dive bar? What a weird, un-Portland like vibe. The ick is real.

I brought home some as leftovers three months ago and my eight year old is still tunneling through them like she's a mole dropped into some f-ed version of Candy Land. Look, I know the fine bartenders here promise chicken and jojos the same way cable promises service: it'll arrive somewhere between the hours of 6 and 10:00 PM. But sit your ass in the chair, get a PBR and wait. Because, much like the bygone era of cable, when the boob shows up uncensored, late at night, and wrapped seductively in paper and BBQ sauce (don't judge me!
