They're open late and apparently are open 365 days a year, which is wild - I've even been here on Christmas Eve and the festive drinks are so fun! Giving a 2-star because of a mixed experience. Hopefully my review can help anyone who comes here have a better experience than we did. First, I'll start with the positive: Tacos de Pescado were quite good, and perhaps the only thing worth coming for here. They were seasoned very nicely and had great texture and appearance. Absolutely the highlight here. The only thing that could have improved them was just a bit of sweetness in the chipotle mayo, since the sauce was a little bit unbalanced. But they were still very tasty. However, there were a couple things that we experienced that really ruined our visit: (1) Price gouging/stinginess (2) The bitchy hostess I totally get the 2026 times that we're in and that places need to operate on tighter budgets. You want me to seat myself when times are busy? Sure. Go up to the bar to order? Alright. Refill my own water? Meh, not a big deal. But there is a way to do those things without treating customers like pests. We showed up shortly after 3pm and this place was COMPLETELY empty, other than the hostess and bartender. We saw the sign that said to seat ourselves, so we did. Hostess came over and just told us to look over the menus and go to the bar when we're ready to order. I tried to ask her for any recommendations, but her body language clearly said she just wanted to walk away. Then she just went over to the bar, and chatted with coworkers. Then one other couple showed up and I watched the same thing happen -- she just kept looking for the first opportunity to step away and go back to doing nothing. Fine, I am capable of having a good time without her, except the menu was sort of confusing about pricing for their signature "machete" quesadillas; they allow you to order a build-your-own with up to 4 different fillings, but the menu has a weird diagram showing the quesadilla spilt into 4 pieces, and each additional filling had another $4 charge to the order. I called her over to ask if the additional fillings were added to the whole machete, or just a portion of it. She said that any fillings you order are basically substitutions, and will be added IN PLACE of existing fillings. I clarified "So the amount of food is the same, and you're just charging extra for me to choose a different filling?" She confirmed yes. "So why do you guys offer a build-your-own option and then charge 2x-4x more for the same amount of food?" She got a bitchy attitude and just said "I don't know, that's just the way the chef does it," and walked away. So I just ordered a machete that was 1/2 chorizo and 1/2 steak. It makes zero sense to me that I would be charged less to order a steak machete instead of steak on one half and chicken or pork on the other half. It's the exact same amount of food. It's not like they let you combine fillings together or anything -- they literally just cut the machete into different sections and give you one filling. By the way, turns out the machete was 100% not worth ordering anyway, which is disappointing considering that this is their signature dish here. The tortillas were dry and bland, the cheese was rubbery, and the fillings were mushy and totally underwhelming. Clearly just some giant batch of meats made a couple days ago that get reheated to order, so again, not sure why they're so weird about the price-gouging. Even funnier, the menu even says that the fillings are "generous." What a scam. But then things got even worse. When the hostess brought my machete, I noticed that there was literally just one tiny dot of crema on the plate, and there was a red sauce and green sauce in the tiniest, half-filled cups. I immediately brought to her attention that there was no cup for the crema, and asked her if I could please get one. She told me I already had some on the plate, and pointed to the dot. I asked if I could please get more than the "dot," and she promptly informed me she would need to add more charges to my meal if I wanted any more sauces. Just absolutely unbelievable stinginess. Her attitude and the price-gouging completely ruined my experience. And what's worse, is the machete isn't even worth its namesake. Those fish tacos are the only thing worth getting. I hope this helps anyone planning to come here. My recommendation would be to skip this place entirely, but if you insist on coming, just get the tacos, skip the machete, and be prepared for price-gouging. read more

The Hey Love space just oozes celebration. It's like a Mexican Tiki bar, covered with plants, tiger and lion sculptures, and pottery. I got the Mule cocktail, and it was one of the best cocktails I've had in ages (admittedly, haven't had many cocktails these days). The wife and I split a squash blossom machete, like a very long quesadilla. It was delicious, stuffed with fresh cheese and that delicate, vegetal flavor from the blossoms. What a fun place. This was my first visit in December, and the restaurant was fully decked out with lights and festive decorations, which added to the charm. Even on a random Tuesday night, it was busy and buzzing. The drink menu is creative and fun--I went with their version of a Hot Toddy, which really hit the spot. Although the wait for sleigh love is long during December it really is worth it! We tried to get in last year on a Saturday night and was told the wait was over 2 hours . We knew we had to plan better this year and came on a Thursday evening the first week of December (which will now be a new tradition). We were told the wait was an hour but really we only waited 35 mins. The vibe here is definitely festive. I especially love all the funny Santa's littered around the room. Went on a Sunday morning and got sat immediately without a wait. The inside is very pretty and there's a lot of attention to detail with the decor and artwork. Everything was reasonably priced for the high quality of the food and drinks. The frozen coffee cocktail I had was delicious, and so were the crispy loaded jojos that I had for brunch. The jojos were very filling too! You can choose to either get up and order at the bar, or you can order and pay via the QR code at your table. One of my favorite bars in Portland. Featured on the World's 50 Best Discovery list. Located inside the Jupiter hotel downtown. Walk in party of 3 at 3pm right when they opened. Happy hour from 3-5pm on weekdays with $10 classic cocktails and $2 off most house cocktails, bringing most drinks to around $11-$15 which is honestly a steal compared to cocktail prices I'm used to in SF. Walk in and you'll be seated by the host. Atmosphere is very tropical, with plants everywhere. Order directly at the bar or use a QR code on the table to place your order and the drinks will be brought to you. Friendly service. Opted for two drinks we've had before - Oaxacan Sunrise (limit 2) and Secret Life of Plants. The first is strong and comparable to a mezcal margarita with passionfruit and strawberry. The latter is a refreshing mango mai tai. Also tried a new-to-us cocktail - Let the Good Times Roll slushie. We got the mule, life of plants, and a slushie. The drinks are very good, funky, and well balanced. The only thing I would change is requesting no sprinkles in my slushie. Loved that we were able to order everything and pay from the QR code at our table so we never had to wait for a staff member to walk by. The drinks were delicious, unique, and fun. Some places are basic, but not Hey Love which oozes character and ambiance. Ordering is easy through a QR code menu. Everything is very fast. I have never had the chance to eat here, but drinking here is amazing. This is a true craft cocktail restaurant with fun drinks including the best gimlet I have ever had. Surprisingly despite it being a QR code menu the servers were still very engaging. Most places I go to that relies on QR code ordering systems are very hands-off. People largely are there to drop off food and that's it. Not here. Every time someone dropped off a drink they'd pause to check-in or give recommendations. It really was great! read more

I don't know if it's because I had more coffee and alcohol than food in me at the moment, but it was the best dish I've tasted in a long time. Very spicy, but flavorful. Every cocktail unfolded in layers of flavors. (I tried a sip of my friends' drinks, and I had the Jazzy Aperol Spritz.) Very unique and complex combinations. Seriously, vegans--don't sleep on the tinga. I tried to order another one for the road but there was a snafoo, maybe they saw it and dismissed it as a dupe. It got figured out but was a little awkward. We had the steak ranchero family feast, the steak itself was absolutely delicious, however the meal didn't really read feast, on the menu it said it was for 2+ and it wasn't really a full meal for two, it would be nice if they could make it more feast like by adding maybe chips or beans and rice or something and more meat. We ordered it with extra tortillas the first three were blue and fresh and yummy, the rest were so hard and dried out and they weren't blue which suggested they were completely different tortillas. The side tomatoes were fine but it said it came with roasted onions and there was one tiny pearl onion cut in half for us to share, it also said it came with seasonal peppers which was one tiny slice of jalapeño. But again the steak itself was really wonderful read more
