Machete
Hayes T.

Awesome! This was our first time here but they told us they recently changed their menu, as they brought on Machetes PDX for a new menu with Mexico City inspired dishes! We got the salad and the machete (you can choose up to four fillings!). It was all very flavorful and yummy. It was a great post travel afternoon snack! There are so many plants in the restaurant, it was very vibey and had nice music playing. Would recommend!

saw this place on a list of "cute rooftop bars", so we pinned it and came to try it out on our trip. It just so happens that on thakday the upstairs bar was closed for a party so we hung out down stairs and it was fine. The service was great and we got seated quickly. we ordered some bites while we all hung out and stayed cool from the outside heat. I like the option of ordering from the phone and then the waiter comes and brings the drinks/food to your table. makes splitting the check easy. the vibe and the music were just so fun and it really brings you to a "cool/ chill/ be in then vibe". Love this place so much

Bar top cocktails and island vibes

Love, Love, Hey Love! Ok... so this place should be on every Portlanders must visit list - local or traveler... it's good. The food is legit. It's a great Asian-fusion street food style menu - taking fresh ingredients and combining them masterfully into small portions of shareable delight. Their trendy, but fun cocktails combine fresh ingredients and tasty libations both alcoholic and a good variety of N/A options into creative works of art - most are on the fruit forward sweeter side, but island vibes flow along with twists on the traditional... unique, pre-mix craft, wall-tap cocktails, to their own flavors of slushy goodness (or combination of) that's delightfully topped with sprinkles, into a well-stocked selection of top shelf liquor. The DJ keeps the the room bumpin' and the service doesn't skip a beat ;)

Cute cocktail bar! Ambiance was relaxed, but upbeat. The bartenders were fast and very nice.

Hot Toddy

What a fun place. This was my first visit in December, and the restaurant was fully decked out with lights and festive decorations, which added to the charm. Even on a random Tuesday night, it was busy and buzzing. The drink menu is creative and fun--I went with their version of a Hot Toddy, which really hit the spot. Choosing an entrée was tough because everything sounded good, but I landed on the grilled cheese with soup and substituted a Caesar salad instead. It was absolutely delicious and something I'd happily order again. Ordering is done via QR code, and everything arrived quickly. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, and while parking can be a challenge, it's well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back.

Sat at the bar for happy hour the other day and wow! Great HH deals with both drinks and snacks. The tacos are firrreeee and I just got wine but my friends got cocktails they love. Bartender was super helpful and friendly. I also came for the Christmas pop up last year and they decorate it so well. So festive and so many plants and lights. Definitely recommend!

Although the wait for sleigh love is long during December it really is worth it! We tried to get in last year on a Saturday night and was told the wait was over 2 hours . We knew we had to plan better this year and came on a Thursday evening the first week of December (which will now be a new tradition). We were told the wait was an hour but really we only waited 35 mins. The vibe here is definitely festive. I especially love all the funny Santa's littered around the room. We were so excited to try the drinks! They cultivated so many creative Christmas cocktails. The food was absolutely delicious! The entire experience is a must in December!

Frozen Coffee Cocktail

Went on a Sunday morning and got sat immediately without a wait. The inside is very pretty and there's a lot of attention to detail with the decor and artwork. Everything was reasonably priced for the high quality of the food and drinks. The frozen coffee cocktail I had was delicious, and so were the crispy loaded jojos that I had for brunch. The jojos were very filling too! You can choose to either get up and order at the bar, or you can order and pay via the QR code at your table. There were only limited interactions with employees, but the ones we did have were very pleasant! I had a great time and ate some great food. I would absolutely recommend this place to others!

Super moody bar scene that's perfect for a girls night out! We were seated at a cozy table and ordered tater tots, chicken, and Mac n cheese. These all came out quickly despite it being a pretty busy night so I appreciated it! The vibe is very cozy and elevated with fun music playing in the background

Cocktails galore

Went here with a friend. The modern atmosphere was open and plenty of lighting. The hostess greeted us right away and got seated. Ordered nachos and the fiesta forever cocktail since its a seasonal drink. My friend ordered the Oaxacan Sunrise which gotta be strong since it says you have a limit of 2 with that drink. When or drinks arrived it was good. The nachos though tasted cold as in the meat n chips. I would have to go here again to update my review since we didnt try too much.

One of my favorite bars in Portland. Featured on the World's 50 Best Discovery list. Located inside the Jupiter hotel downtown. Walk in party of 3 at 3pm right when they opened. Happy hour from 3-5pm on weekdays with $10 classic cocktails and $2 off most house cocktails, bringing most drinks to around $11-$15 which is honestly a steal compared to cocktail prices I'm used to in SF. Walk in and you'll be seated by the host. Atmosphere is very tropical, with plants everywhere. Order directly at the bar or use a QR code on the table to place your order and the drinks will be brought to you. Friendly service. Opted for two drinks we've had before - Oaxacan Sunrise (limit 2) and Secret Life of Plants. The first is strong and comparable to a mezcal margarita with passionfruit and strawberry. The latter is a refreshing mango mai tai. Also tried a new-to-us cocktail - Let the Good Times Roll slushie. More of a dessert drink and their take on a frozen Irish coffee with whiskey, coffee, irish cream, vanilla soft serve, whipped cream, and oreo sprinkles. Sweeter but delicious.

Girl, let your Mango! & Utah, gimme two!

Always love going to Hey Love bc of the ambiance & how pretty is but these drinks we ordered are my new fave. Their slushies are so yummy!

Do you guys do take out?

We do offer take out! You can order through our website and we'll text you when your order is ready for pick up. https://www.toasttab.com/hey-love/v3

Do they serve breakfast all day?

Hey Love serves weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 3pm. We do not serve breakfast during the week. You can view all of our hours and current menus on our website, https://www.heylovepdx.com/!

Would this be good for a group of 8?

Yes! It's not a big space but they do have 2 large table tops inside and I've never had to wait for a table when I've gotten there before 6. Went with a group of 6 of us and we got seated right away on Halloween.

Are dogs allowed?

No, it’s indoors.

Are minors allowed?

Yes, until 9pm - they just can't sit in the bar area. Confirmed over the phone with one of their friendly team members, Jackie (thanks!)

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

One of the best parts was how approachable the bartenders were. We asked for custom drinks based on our preferences, and both came out perfectly tailored. Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.

Driftwood Room is an interesting one. If you've been watching Mad Men like I have recently, you'll…read morefeel right at home -- minus the misogyny and the occasional cringe reminder that this era wasn't actually that long ago. The room drops you straight into a version of 1950s America that's been preserved just enough to feel nostalgic without feeling like a museum. Low lighting, wood everywhere, cocktails that feel like they belong in a glass with a heavy base and a quiet sense of purpose. It works, and it works for just about anyone. The drinks are excellent, and the service is generally solid. That said, this is a hotel bar, and it's often staffed by a single bartender, so your experience can vary depending on who's behind the stick that night. I've had great visits here -- the kind where everything flows -- and I've had nights that were just okay. Nothing bad, just inconsistent in a way that comes with the territory. And that's really the crux of it. At the end of the day, this is a hotel bar. Which means drinks come with a premium -- not outrageous, but noticeable. You're paying a bit extra for the setting, for the history, for the fact that it's there when you need it. And while the cocktails are well-made, Portland has no shortage of places doing equally good, if not better, work for the same price or maybe a dollar more. Timing matters here. Weekdays are ideal -- when the room feels like it's yours, when you can actually settle into it. Weekends are a different story. Travelers roll in, rightfully ready to unwind, and suddenly you're competing for space, for attention, for a seat at the bar. So why go? Because when it hits, it really hits. It's a place to lean into the mood a little. Order something off their house cocktail list -- they clearly put thought into it -- and let yourself sink into that old-school rhythm where day drinking feels less like a vice and more like a quiet ritual. It's not perfect. It's not the best value in the city. But it is one of the more distinct experiences you can have -- and sometimes, that's enough.
