We actually made the mistake of not making reservations. We went around 6 on a Sunday and they were full, went back around 8 pm after dinner next door and it was an hour wait, so we opted to make reservations for Monday (Labor Day) but unfortunately the reservations for the times we wanted were gone. Walked in around 5 pm on Monday. They were able to accomdate us with caveat we would need to be done by 6, which worked for us as we wanted drinks and a small snack. They did not rush us even with the time constraint. We ended up getting the lodge and the foggy notion. Both were good - I preferred the lodge as it allowed one to taste the whisky more. Most places at least in Seattle have a large ice cube with very little alcohol. This one you actually had room all around the ice cube and volume wise is worth the price in my personal opinion. There were very well done cocktails. The table next to us ordered one of everything on the food menu and we wish we had done the same as everything looked very good but alas we have reservations for dinner already.
We came here on our last night in Portland, and no other place could have been better to wrap up our trip! I chose the Saville Painkiller Cobbler which was very similar to Piña Colada with Ube. The drink was such a pretty purple shade, dusted with purple sweet potato/taro powder, and served in a Pineapple shaped glass - so aesthetically pleasing and very easy on the palate! My husband got the Pandan Old Fashioned which was very delicious as well - silky, sweet, boozy with a strong Pandan forward profile. For snacks, we got the Shrimp Chips and the Whipped Ricotta with Soppressata that comes with a generous portion of 4 slices of Rustic bread. The shrimp chips were humongous and so light, airy and crispy with a delicate shrimp flavor. The presentation on the whipped ricotta was so beautiful, and it tasted so good with the Calabrian chili and Soppressata! Portland has no shortage of amazing cocktail bars, and this is another place I would come back to if I ever find myself in Portland again!
This is the spot to be. Great food and phenomenal imagination with the drinks. They have hit the nail on the head. The soft shell crab sando is to die for and I'm not much of a crab kinda person. This is page right out of the history books for place to see in Portland.
Scotch Lodge recently won Outstanding Bar at 2026 James Beard Awards and it absolutely deserves it. The cocktails here are seriously some of the best that I've had in the States. In addition to creative, well-prepared cocktails, the food here is equally spectacular. My wife and I shared their Wagyu tartar and a soft shell crab sando. You'll see these two dishes at virtually every single table if you look around the restaurant during your visit and there's good reason for it: these two dishes are perfectly executed. Every piece of the tartare is evenly cut the be the same size, and there wasn't a single piece that was stringy or chewy. The dish itself was well-seasoned, and the freshly fried kettle chips provided the crunchy texture the dish needed. The soft shell crab sando is served between two toasted slices of rich, decadent, buttered milk bread. The crab has a wonderfully crispy outer shell and atop of the crab is a mountain of crunchy, tangy slaw. They must have done a bunch of R&D and experimentation playing with the ratio of the ingredients because every bite was balanced. If there's one dish you have to order during your visit, make it the crab sando. The two cocktails I tried out were the "loch stock" -- mezcal, smoky scotch, ancho reyes, lapsang souchong sweet vermouth, and mole bitters, and the "up country road" -- bourbon, coconut-inflused sweet vermouth, macadamia nut campari. I cannot articulate how incredible these two drinks tasted. The flavor profile of the drinks are punchy and exactly as described. I am certain there's something on the menu for everyone's palette. I would highly advise you to stay hydrated throughout your visit so you're able to make it to two, or even three round of drinks. The drinks are that good. I cannot recommend Scotch Lodge enough if you're visiting Portland. Definitely make a reservation and be sure to try out the food as well.
Was able to snag a seat at the bar and had the best time ever here. There was a little wait but there's so many places around the area to check out while you're waiting, the time flew by! The food is more like appetizers to snack on while you try all of their drinks, so plan appropriately!! The food was good though- but it's the drinks that stood out. The drinks were, AMAZING. I cannot stress how well crafted the cocktails were. The had an amazing selection of bourbon and scotch, lots of options. I can't wait to come back here!!!
Not sure what took me so long to get back here! We had an amazing pre-dinner here enjoying cocktails and all the snacks. It's a great place to go before a comedy show, take a date here, or just a good time with friends. The lighting is brighter than I remember. Last time I couldn't see any of my food but I really enjoyed it last time and even more this time. Definitely would get oysters again but I love that they change up the menu. The service and presentation are both amazing. There are other places in town that charge the same for a cocktail but I've never been disappointed here. Cocktails you can always count on!
I completely understand why this place won a James Beard award - it is absolutely deserved. I love whiskey, however they have a massive selection of alcohols outside of whiskey too, so there is something for everyone! The space is cozy and intimate. You go down a flight of stairs on arrival into a small space with various types of seating. We got the B-side remix and Foggy Notion cocktails which were both fantastic! I also got a pour of Japanese whiskey which was excellent as expected. We got the Wagyu tartar, half a dozen oysters, and the Softshell Crab sando. I am a huge fan of soft-shell crab but this was the best prepared soft-shell crab I've ever had. The service was excellent and everyone was very attentive. The cocktails and food all came out at a great pace. Make sure you make a reservation ahead of time as they book up fast!
Amazing cocktail spot, there's a reason why they won a James Beard award. The vibe was cozy and intimate. Staffs were efficient and knowledgable. Their whiskey collection is massive, you can sample the world of whiskey here. But their cocktails stole the show. Both the B-Side Remix and Foggy Notion were delicious and creative we couldn't have enough of them. Paired those with their flavorful dishes, it's a great experience. The Scallop Crudo was easily the best we've had. Arancinis were tasty too but on the softer, creamier end of thing. No note, can't wait to be back!
What a treat to be able to experience a James Beard Award recipient!! You'd never know what Scotch Lodge was from the outside, but once you enter and walk down the stairs you're in for a treat. We were warmly greeted and sat at our table - definitely recommend reservations. The bottles behind the bar and along the wall were beautifully displayed and made for such a cool ambiance. We had a nice spot in the back corner and could check out the whole place. Aaron was our server and she was great, had good recommendations and made sure we were taken care of. Not sure which was better, the way the dishes tasted or the way they looked... either way they were incredible. We tried the beets, the heirloom tomatoes, the whipped ricotta, the tartare and of course the panna cotta. Everything was so elegant and had such unique flavors and textures. I could have that meal multiple times and never get sick of it. Not surprised at all that they are a James Beard Award winner - highly recommend!!
Probably nobody needs me to say that the Scotch Lodge is a charming and the cocktails are delicious but I will and they are. The service was excellent and the bites were tasty. As we were with a gluten free companion, I will note that if they offered gluten free bread options more of the menu items would be accessible to those with gluten issues.
This little restaurant makes me think of a really cute older speakeasy. I love the wallpaper. The service was excellent, but the food was even better. We had the whipped ricotta, steak tartar, Caesar and the Panna cotta, and we tried 4 drinks. I will be back. Best food I had in a long time.
Scotch Lodge was a delight. Incredibly well designed space with friendly service that helped a novice scotch/whiskey drinker find something they loved. Good music, good vibes, and what looked like a killer food offering.
Loved everything about this place. Fab cocktails, good lighting, tasty menu with plenty of veg-friendly options and gorgeous plating. Definitely make a reservation since it fills up on a Friday night. Sitting at the kitchen bar is a fun way to watch the talented team work their magic, but bar seats would've been great, too. Foggy notion was a beautiful early grey infused whisky/amontillado sipper topped with vanilla cream. Blade Runner with cognac and cocoa butter Campari was a nice boulevardier twist. Food is family style and portions are huge. Good for a group that likes to share. Loved the crispy brussels, creamy whipped ricotta, and delicata squash- there were so many other things I wanted to try, but even three plates was too much food for the two of us. Definitely recommend and hope to return. read more
yummmmmm. this place is well known for a good reason! on top of their phenomenal drinks, the food is very well made to pair with your beverage. they executed everything to a tee, although the oysters werent that fresh when we ordered (possibly due to it being late night) and a tuesday when it wasnt as busy. everyone should visit this place at least once, in my opinion. the vibe is quite intimate which makes it a great date night place. definitely plan ahead if you are looking to come on a fri, sat or sunday. all of the staff was professional, friendly, and accommodating to our party of 6. we will certainly be returning again soon! read more
Really great speakeasy lounge that of course specializes in whiskey. We made a reservation on our last trip to Portland after seeing that they won a James Beard award. I'm not a huge whiskey fan myself but was intrigued by the whiskey based cocktails and got the Foggy Notion which ended up being delicious. Loved the vanilla cream and earl grey which really helped lighten up the Japanese Whiskey! Super creative and fun. I also tried my boyfriend's Moon Age Daydream which is a lighter yuzu gin based cocktail if you're looking for something sweeter and more fruity. I wish we had a chance to try the food but we walked here after dinner and were stuffed. Great hospitality and such a nice date night spot. Definitely would recommend! read more

Absolute hands-down favorite bar in Portland! Scotch Lodge is a must-visit every single time we are in Portland! The food, the cocktails, and the hospitality are consistently incredible. You cannot miss the oysters here--the granitas they pair with them are an absolute work of art. For the first time, we tried the beef tartare, and they hand-chop the meat right on the spot. The funky richness of the cheese on top was perfectly balanced, and wrapping it in gem lettuce made it such a unique and delicious treat. As for the drinks, every single cocktail we ordered was outstanding. I'm not a big fan of overly sweet drinks, so the 'Mojo Jojo Casa House' at the end was absolutely perfect for my palate. I also loved the 'Brand New Key,' which was packed with fresh tarragon flavor. My husband prefers smoky whiskeys and mezcals, so he ordered along those lines--not exactly my personal style, but he loved them! The ambiance and overall vibe here are unmatched. Just a heads-up: this place gets packed quickly, so making a reservation is a complete must. Highly, highly recommend! read more

We were in Portland to attend a wedding, and read that Scotch Lodge had just been awarded the James Beard Award. With high hopes but low expectations, we stopped in to see if we could find a seat. As luck would have it, there as a table for two available for an hour, which fit our timeline nicely. The interior is as nice to look at as the staff going about their duties behind the bar and in the open kitchen. We really enjoyed just watching. We ordered the Whipped Ricotta appetizer, which was just right for us and absolutely delicious. The B-Side Remix and Foggy Notion cocktails were beautiful to behold, well crafted, and absolutely delicious. Definitely put this place on your list! read more

What an amazing experience from arrival To end of my meal and cocktail. While traveling I encountered this speakeasy style bar with an amazing small bites menu. The bartenders were so friendly and helpful on the menu and experience and shared their recommendations . I sat at bar and had a delicious old fashioned along with 1/2 dozen oysters and arancini with salmon roe. To say that the meal was to die for and absolutely an experience does not do it justice. The oysters with pomegranate granita was so well paired and delicious. The arancini was soft velvety and perfect with the saltiness of the salmon roe. Amazing experience and will definitely come back when in town for another delectable meal. read more
Hard to imagine that this place exists in Portland or any mid size city! It is so very cool! The scotch list is clearly amazing (had a dram of 30 year) but the food and service steals the show. Exquisite food that would clearly have 3 Michelin stars if they covered Portland. Our servers were all spectacular and very knowledgeable. This place is a must visit when in Portland. read more

This little hidden gem was the cutest and had nice vibes. We waited about 20 mins before getting a table Saturday night, but it was worth the wait. Get the Moon Age Daydream! The gin was well hidden, yuzu and green tea flavor came through. Refreshing and soo smooth! read more

Modern Speakeasy Vibes. We walked in after our dinner nearby and were impressed by the liquor wall with a ladder. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and kinda, guiding my fiancée in his scotch tasting. There's food too, but we didn't try anything. Scotch Lodge is hands down, one of the best speakeasy-style restaurants in Portland! After one visit, it's easy to understand why they've earned so much recognition lately. The cocktails are exceptional, but honestly, come for the food - you won't regret it! We ordered the anchovies and IMMEDIATELY had to order a second round of them. They're perfectly filleted, boneless, and incredible with the accompanying bread. The oysters are some of the best I've had in the city too, and the pasta was phenomenal. Every single dish that hit the table was a 10 out of 10! If you're looking for an elevated dining experience with friends or a hot date, this place exceeded my expectations! Scotch Lodge is a must-visit! read more
10/10 EXPERIENCE!!! I came here mainly to check out some of their interesting food items and grab a quick drink or two. Gotta say I was blown away by how amazing everything tasted here. Service was really great, helpful, and lightning quick. Food has gotta be hands down some of the best I've ever had. The twists on traditional dishes were all executed to PERFECTION. Oysters were a must and I can say I've never had oysters served that way but it was incredible. Wagyu tartare was so flavorful and rich that I was scraping the plate at the end for more. And finally the panna cotta was the perfect ending adding a delicious light strawberry finish that wasn't too sweet but so good. Would HIGHLY recommend all 3 as they're all 10/10 in my experience. Definitely make your way over here because the drinks are also amazing and they have other options that aren't whiskey/scotch as well. Next time I'm in town I'm definitely coming here again!! read more

$2 Kumamoto orders after 10pm!! The food, the scotch, the ambiance and the kind servers were amazing. The bread here is divine. Everything was delicious, but our favorite were definitely the brussel sprouts & the beef tartare. Will definitely come back! It's a great place to take visitors to or for an intimate date/hang-out. Highly recommend trying the scotch flight. Our favorite was the international flight. read more

Service, drinks, and food were 10/10 incredible. We came at 4 pm and had the 6 for $12 oysters, arancini, and prosciutto with amazing fresh bread to start. Everything was full of incredible flavor and done beautifully. We ended with the Parpadelle with candied duck and it blew us away. The sauce, noodles, and duck were so yummy. Will be back again to try more from the menu read more

We had very late "New York" reservations for my partner's birthday dinner and needed a way to kill an hour and a half or so beforehand. What better way than wandering into a bar? Not just any bar would do though.... enter the Scotch Lodge. It's not quite the Platonic ideal of a high class bar, but dang, it's very close. Very very close. I mean, it's a bar where you pretty much need reservations, so it's no dive. Fortunately, I had those and we were seated at the bar rail on the curve, just about perfect location. It's a high end bar - house designed cocktails, great food options, impeccable atmosphere. And while you could have ordered something that you could have gotten anywhere else, what would be the point? Our bartender, Jeremy, was super friendly and knowledgeable and freely shared his enthusiasm for what he was doing and accommodated our curiosity about the selection -- which is massive and encyclopedic. We finally settled on our first round - my partner had a Like a Love Song, and I had a Lock Stock. Like a Love Song was very boulevardier adjacent - blended scotch, coffee vermouth, chocolate Campari with an amaro cream float over a big rock. Absolutely delicious. Loch Stock was Manhattan adjacent - split base with mezcal and peated scotch, a splash of Ancho Reyes for some kick, and tea infused sweet vermouth, with mole bitters, with an amazing lemon garnish. Beautiful and tasty. Savoring those and discussing what was next we decided for some snacks but wanted to keep it light as we were heading into something more akin to an Event than a mere meal, so we opted for the Pickle Spiced Fries. I was seriously surprised - crispy fries, coated in powdered dried dill pickles and salt. Just amazing. I had no idea I needed that in my life but now I do. Served with sour cream mixed with fresh dill. Just amazing. With the fries in hand we turned to the second round of drinks. My partner had a Namesake, and I had Penicillin. The Namesake was bold and impressive - scotch, cherry liqueur, sweet vermouth and cynar - again, very boulevardier adjacent but very different. Penicillin was also elevated - split base with Laphroaig sherry cask and Auchentoshan 12 under the traditional lemon and ginger. Here's the thing... I really love a good cocktail and make them at home frequently. I'm adventurous and have a large stock of interesting booze, and subscriptions to recipes and such. I'm not really looking to go sit someplace and drink something I'd have at home in an environment that is not inspired. The Scotch Lodge just blew my hopes away in this regard. I had no idea that it was going to be this good and I'll absolutely guarantee that we'll be back. Highest recommendation. read more

The food was amazing, the fries were unique and the perfect snack. The brussel sprouts with that chili crisp was something I'd not had before and highly recommend. The prosciutto with the pear was unreal, I enjoyed everything we ate here. I'm not a scotch drinker so I can't speak to the drinks. I ordered the Blind Melon with gin which was nice! Very friendly and attentive service. It was quite loud inside but we were still able to conversate at our table. We had a reservation on a Friday for 4ppl, which I would recommend. Scotch Lodge continues to stand our as one of the most refined dining options in Portland. A beautifully curated small food menu is accompanied by the largest whisky menu I've ever seen. The space is elegant and intimate (reservations are a must) and service is prompt and efficient, though never hovering. There are usually only a couple of pasta options, and they always seem to be unique to Scotch Lodge. This is a place that our adult daughter always wants to visit as a special occasion when she is in town, and she's taken to brining my wife and I along, mostly so that she can sample more items from their menu. This is a truly special place. read more

When we found ourselves on this side of the river, we decided to finally check it out. We walked in without a reservation and luckily they had a table for us. I wanted cocktails, but the boys wanted tastings, so we asked our server to create something based on their whisky preferences. They seemed to like their pours. I started with the namesake. If am old fashioned and a mahattan had a baby, I'd think it would be similar to this. I'm a fan of both cocktails, so this was a fun play. Since we had been drinking all day, I wanted something lighter afterwards. Enter the penicillin. I normally don't like peaty scotches, but it was completely fine here. Not too smokey. I have no idea why pickle fries were ordered, but they looked okay. Glad I finally came here. The scotch offerings don't seem to be that unique or hard to find, but I enjoyed their cocktails. Love scotch lodge! Have been here a few times and it's always delicious. Love their oysters and the rotating granita flavors- so fun and unique! Service is always great and the drinks are phenomenal. It is more of a pricey spot so good for date nights/special occasion's. read more

Ambiance is speakeasy vibes & it's always bustling! Service is always top tier -- Kiki was phenomenal & so personable. She took good care of us. Food was bomb...Like wow! I ordered the Only Fans Martini, it was EXQUISITE. Truly a beautiful drink: coconut milk washed gin with mango & champagne! I loved the duck pappardelle; rich & decadent--yet still light & bright. However-- My homegirl and I only came for one purpose: fried brie. Scotch Lodge broke our hearts, because they discontinued it! Please BRING FRIED BRIE BACK ASAP!! It was the best thing everrr! These drinks were SOOOO AMAZING! Highly recommend this place for a fun night out with cocktails. They also had amazing food (we didn't get a chance to try the Fried Brie because it was sold out!) like arancini and pickle spiced fries. Drinks in focus in the pictures is the Sinners & Saints (with graham cracker on top) and I think First Date (with the crushed ice) - although the menu may have changed from writing the review/when we went. They have an extensive scotch menu with the ability to do a tasting! Would love to come back again soon. read more
We loved the ambience, drinks, food, and service here! It was very easy to find street parking. The entrance is a little obscure but there is a sign, so that helps. We really liked Moon Age Daydream and Modern Love, which has similar notes. Fried Brie was so good! The shape was unexpected, but delicious. The Pappardelle is another dish we really liked, as well as the chocolate cake. This is a repeat for sure. read more
Really beautiful food and drinks. Both the cooks and the bartenders work on the sides of this basement bar. I wonder how they work so well in a fishbowl. The drinks I had were perfect. I also got an amazing panna cotta, it's a smile in a bite. Sesame is a great addition. Most of their dishes have an Asian twist like that read more

Under 21 allowed for dinner? Our 20 year old wants to join us for dinner.
I am not sure but I don't think this is the right place for little kids. Older kids would be fine. It is very alcohol forward place. It is beautiful inside and an older kid would probably enjoy it.
Is this place still open? Showed up at 7pm on a Sunday night and no sign of anyone.

Scotch Lodge just rolled out a new happy hour (4pm-6pm) and late night (10pm-12am) menu Sun-Thurs. A bunch of new food items and some great cocktails too! Perfect spot for happy hour.
