They had four pool tables going towards the back but in its own section so it wasn't loud or intrusive and you can tell there's a lot of really good pool players out there. They also have plenty of outdoor seating which looked nice, but it wasn't later at night. We sat down and within 30 seconds we were greeted by a Pink Floyd shirt wearing gentlemen who had long cool looking hair, he is very friendly and he asked my wife first what she'd like. They have a number of taps and also in a beer option options. Full bar not sure about their wine. We ordered soup and salad, and it was really good. It's an enormous cabin-style building, with high ceilings, large weathered beams, comfortable seating (upstairs, downstairs, outside and at a long wooden bar). There's a large fireplace, and a giant wood fired stove in the rear that they fire up on cold days. Check out their rare giant mushroom lamps and long list of eclectic objects on the walls or hanging from the rafters. The Rock Creek Tavern is a short drive north of Hillsboro, OR, on a quiet stretch of NW Old Cornelius Pass Road (a northwest offshoot of the much busier Cornelius Pass Road). For our entrées, we ordered the Spicy Sausage Rigatoni, Pork Ragu, Al Tartufo, and the pork chop which was the special for the day (forgot the name). I chose the Vongole, and it was out of this world! Pasta with clams is one of my favorite dishes, so I thought I knew what to expect, but this version was so much more flavorful. The herbs added wonderful flavor, while the hint of lemon enhanced the dish without overpowering it. Every clam was open, so none went to waste. When my plate arrived, was sure I would have leftovers to take home but I enjoyed it so much that I ate every bite including the pasta!! The restaurant's website says they use "fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced from local, sustainable, and organic farms," and they absolutely live up to that promise!! The reception area may seem small when you first walk in, but don't let that fool you. We sat in the dining area on the left, but the other side has a bar, additional tables, a small private dining room that seats about a dozen people, and another larger dining space. The restaurant feels cozy and inviting while still offering plenty of room. Alex, our server, was wonderful. When he learned that my brother and sister-in-law live nearby and had visited before, he took the time to note their names. It was a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more personal! We walked about 15 minutes to the restaurant. It was a fun way to begin and end the evening, and no one had to drive after enjoying wine and margaritas! Bethany's Table is worth supporting not only because it's a neighborhood bistro, but because they do an excellent job!! The room alone almost made it worth my time. The English pea risotto was very good, and the house fries were good. The French-oaked flight I requested was a sad effort. The bartender never asked what distillers I had as options other than indicating that Makers 46 must be what I'm after when I said French oaked and creamy was my vibe, to which I raised an eyebrow and indicated I was ok if he started with that in my flight as a base for comparison. Otherwise he never asked whether I'd like to spend good money on something special (I would have said yes) and later claimed these were the only French-oaked bottles they even had in stock despite a claimed inventory of over 2,000 whiskeys. What arrived: Penelope Architect--nothing at all on the nose, something like wood paneling on the palate. Angel's Envy Triple Oak--tasted just like the Angel's Envy Rum Cask I can get at the supermarket. Maker's 46--the best of those three, yet still quintessentially basic as a wheated French-staved bargain buy, which, by the way, I never indicated I was there for. When I diplomatically indicated my that my flight was totally blasé and asked for one last pour in hopes of redeeming the experience, he brought me a redundant Maker's Heart Series in which the heart was made of mildly chocolate-inspired disappointment. Staff clearly put effort into educating and serving, and the environment is special enough that I hope to return with friends for that alone, even though I was rushed out due to a scheduled reservation needing my unscheduled seat. Ultimately the pours left me with an extremely unimpressive result and a future 0-for-2 that I'd be willing to risk in hopes of their redemption. Exceptionally impressive venue, if totally unimpressive flight curation.
