After perusing the website, we attempted happy hour at The Pharmacy. There is no table service at this dive bar, you order at the bar and the chef brings out your dishes. They have a sense of humor, and I loved the "open" sign so much I took a picture. The bartender is gruff but gets the job done. They have some happy hour food plus different drink specials every day. After asking some questions and sampling both the frozen drinks available (this got the bartender talking about the ingredients), I decided on a full price $13 tropical slushie drink from the spinning machine. It was boozy and delicious, but not on special. Husband had a $7 pilsner. I ordered the Pharmacy burger, lettuce wrapped with sweet potato fries and I requested a side of ranch which never arrived. The burger was supposed to be $14 with a $2 add for sweet potato fries. We paid at the bar before seeing our meals, so when I went back and reflected on what I was actually charged ($18) it was clearly not the happy hour price. The lettuce wrapped burger was just a flabby standard commercial frozen patty of ground meat cooked on the flat grill, with one sad leaf of lettuce on the bottom and top. Disappointing and lacking flavor, at least there were pickles and sauce on the bottom. Do you sweet potato fries were clearly from a prefab frozen bag, waffle cut and fried till they were overly crisp and double cooked greasy. Without my ranch dressing to disguise them, short of sticking my head in the kitchen or bothering the bartender again, I suffered in silence. Husband had the buffalo wings $16 for ten, and they came with two blue cheese dressing cups. The wings are actually excellent, very crispy, not huge wings but with a clean bright buffalo sauce. Lesson here, come for the drinks and the wings! Pay attention to the daily specials on the chalkboard outside and go with that. We checked this place out the day before Xmas eve. Went with a few people from work for a drink before heading to another bar. It was trivia night. We did not partake in the game as were were not there long. We ordered a hot toddy and a "not toddy" for the DD. Both were delicious! Staff was friendly and service was quick. The bouncer at the door accused someone in my group of having a fake ID. This certain friend had flown in from out of town and used this ID to get through tsa with no problems. We are well into our 30s so when the fake id came up we all laughed it off as a joke. The doorman then proceeded to say we needed the police in order to get the ID back when we tried explaining to him he got defensive, began yelling and tell the girls to shut the hell up. we visited this bar on new years eve and it has the most unique vibes and interesting history. its current building was built in 1926, and operated as the nob hill pharmacy from 1933 to 2005. then, this bar opened in 2019 ! we ordered green tea shots, which were so delicious ! the interior is super cool; they have pin ball machines, board games, and the tvs were playing videos of hamsters going through mazes. everyone working was so kind and hustling ! read more

Pulling inspiration from The Pharmacy and its colorful visitors - a piece 30 years in the making. Make friends with this local - he will open your eyes so that familiar things seem foreign. We were excited to try this place out. We always love a good theme spot. But as you know if you follow my reviews, wheelchair accessibility is a must for us. And we did our due diligence on it. In fact, of the four bars in the area that we contacted to check on accessibility, this is the only one that got back to us (not a great look Portland.) But we had one! This place said they were fully accessible. Except, well, no. Not really. Getting to the table was fine, so ok basic step one complete. But to actually be accessible you have to have accessible bathrooms. Disabled folx need to pee, y'all. And they have as much right to as the rest of us. And- here's the catch- they shouldn't need to have assistance. My wife uses a chair but she can get up and out of it fairly easily as long as it's brief. But look. I had to help her uo a ramp, and then down a "ramp" that wasn't really a ramp it was actually a step come on. And then... the bathroom was too small to close the door with the chair inside. And our chair is TINY as wheelchairs go. My wife had to stand up, and I had to fold the chair, stash it to the side, and then the door could close. We have friends with much larger chairs that would have zero hope. Do better, Pharmacy. Or at least don't tell people you're accessible. You're not. Wow. I LOVE their interior. The floating candles, stained glasses, and leather booth seatings made everything so cozy. Their all wood bar is also super cool. It's pretty laid back when we're there which was exactly what we're looking for. They got a few classics and novelty cocktails at a reasonable price of $12 - $13. We tried the A Little Pick Me Up, which is their take on an espresso martini-esque drink, and the Brair Patch. Both were very tasty but the Brair Patch was by far my favorite. The Marionberry Whiskey was so tasty! Overall, the drink was refreshing and delicious. We also tried some of their food. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was AMAZING! The chicken was very well-fried. Crispy and juicy. Gotta love the toasted pretzel bun as well. Would get the sauce on the side next time though. We had the sandwich with Onion Rings, which are not on their menu but you can still ask for it and you totally shoul. Again, very fresh and crispy. The slight sweetness of the onion was addicting. We got their Wings too with habanero sauce and they definitely got a kick! The blue cheese sauce and celery were necessary to help with the heat. Good wings though, nice and juicy again. Tried this place out for a late lunch this past weekend. Great spot! I was greeted by a helpful and friendly bartender who was well-versed with the menu. There's plenty of seating, including booths. The walls are adorned with cool artwork, much of which is promoting social justice which is rad. My husband got the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup and loved it! I had a really hard time deciding on the menu and ultimately ended up with a chicken Caesar salad, which was also really good. Beyond that, I also learned that they are providing free community meals/meal kits for those impacted by the loss of SNAP benefits. Really incredible to see how they are supporting our community when it's so needed while running a business in an industry with notoriously low profit margins. The ambience is great. The food is great, and a fun location. Even if none of those things were true, I would still come back to a place that supports our community like this. read more

The vibe at The Pharmacy Bar is a dive bar with a vintage pharmacy theme. I've driven by this several times and thought it was an actual pharmacy. The drink menu at The Pharmacy Bar features a wide variety of cocktails, beer, and wine. The Cherry Limeade (always a favorite!) and strawberry lemonade slushy are what we ended up ordering. The slushy was similar to a smoothie will real strawberries in it - yum! The grilled cheese burger is a fun idea, but it is a bit too much bread. 2 Texas toast grilled cheeses with a burger patty sandwiched between them. The whiskey bacon burger's sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. I would recommend asking for the sauce on the side so that you can control the amount that you use if you want to go this route. The fries and tots were both delicious - hot and crispy. The service at The Pharmacy Bar is friendly and attentive. The staff is happy to answer questions about the menu or make recommendations. The Pharmacy Bar is a great option for a casual meal or drink in Northwest Portland. The food is good, the drinks are great, and the atmosphere is relaxed. I would definitely recommend it to others. I think The Pharmacy Bar would be a great place to host a Meetup. There is plenty of space, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. read more

We stopped in with our fellow Yelpies to play Trivia. I started the night with a Blackberry Soda from the menu, turned out to be Wyld CBD tonic water. Big miss. I went back to the menu and ordered a passion ginger ale. It wasn't bad. The glasses used at the bar and small and non- alcoholic drinks are running $7 to $8. Drink wisely, water is free by the kitchen and bathroom. We tried the 1 pound of fries and chicken wings. That's a lot of fries. We killed them. The chicken was peanut butter and the other was barbecue. The peanut butter was weird but good, reminded me of a sandwich with chicken...? Maybe? The barbecue was as expected good. Overall the food passed. The trivia game was fun. It dragged a little here and there but overwhelmingly everyone had fun. The app was not as user friendly as it could have been. Hopefully the little bugs are worked out soon. We probably would do it again. read more

I unfortunately had a very bad experience with this establishment last night. Normally, I have had only positive experiences going to this bar previously. The male bartender working last night needs to be fired effective immediately. After hearing a different patron call my friend the F slur this bartender did not kick those people out. The same patron called multiple people different slurs , and had his friends hit women unjustifiably. Guests should feel safe in third spaces, especially individuals, a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, normally that is the case when visiting this bar, however, last night was different. read more

I came here by myself on a Friday night for a drink and some wings. This place was decorated delightfully. They had all kinds of cute Halloween themed decor, and besides that they had various gay themed art on the walls and some cool pinball machines in the back. The seating that was offered was extremely varied; booths, bar seating, bar style seating by a window facing the street (optimal people watching), large tables, small tables, patio seating outside, and it was all quite spacious. When I arrived it was not terribly busy, but business was steady and the crowd was decidedly straight. As the night went on the place began to fill, more queer couples and friend groups arrived, and I noticed that the music changed to reflect this. At first the music had been upbeat, but mostly instrumental background music; but as it got later it turned more to popular hits and dance music. The service was proactive, fast, friendly, and fabulous. Even the guy at the door checking IDs was great. He had a big jar of candy, was chatting amicably with customers and passerbys alike. He gave me some great information about the food service, and reccomendations for what wings to try. Both of the bartenders were friendly and helpful. The first bartender I spoke with answered my questions and gave me a great drink reccomendation, and the other one offered to let me try what was on tap before making my purchase. I felt so welcome, and valued as a customer. Even the guy running food and bussing tables looked like he was having a great time; he was practically skipping! The food itself was very good. I'm not completely convinced that the wings were brined for 24 hours based on the favor, but they were still super yummy! I got the honey stinger sauce, and it was the perfect blend of sweet, savory, tangy, and spicy with just the right amount of heat. The outside of the wings was crispy, and the inside was juicy. They were served piping hot, which is definitely the best way to eat them. The leftovers were ok, but I would definitely reccomend the dine-in option to enjoy the wings while they are freshest. The drink I had was phenomenal. Dual (I think that was her name?) reccomended the gone guava cocktail. It might be the best cocktail I've ever had. It was so yummy! After I ate and had my cocktail, I asked the other bartender about their taplist, she pointed out a cute chalkboard style menu that was complete with colorful hand drawn art, and offered to give me a taster of anything I wanted to try. The offerings were unique, varied, but primarily IPAs. I ended up getting beer with a heavily implied Chappel Roan theme. It was ok but nothing to write home about. The only point of feedback I have to offer this business is to bring back more of your house-made sauces. I was excited to try the teriyaki and peanut sauces I saw on a picture of an older menu, and was disappointed to find out that the only house-made sauce you still have is a scalding hot habañero sauce. I really like the Pharmacy. I'd love to come back with some friends to see what it looks like later in the night, or to experience their drag brunch. This is my favorite neighborhood bar. As a transguy I always feel welcome and supported here. The bartenders stick up for me and I always look forward to hanging out with friends that I've made in the community here. Their food is probably the best in the neighborhood, and they have vegetarian options that are very good. Lately I've been on to the Mission Impossible Burger (sans Tom Cruise) and I switch out the fries for Onion Rings with BBQ Sauce. I wish they were more honest about closing times; when a sign reads "f@&! yeah we're open" you expect a place to be serving still. stopping in for some food 45 mins before close to be met with "we already did last call" at a bar; isn't quite understandable. last call is more than necessary for a place like this, and that isn't what raises an issue, what I don't understand is a full(ish) bar, with more than half an hour to the listed closing time, not allowing a guest to eat or drink. even just for to go food, or a single shot. if this was a cheap place, i would understand more- but it's expensive and in a very local focused area. if you close at 1:15, close at 1:15. if you close at 12, close at 12. you choose the hours, make them honest. It was my first time here. Inside was so cold . Air conditioners were on I guess . I ordered chicken wings , tots and a beer. I had to wait for a long time to place my order. They brought my chicken wings and tots but not the beer. After 10 minutes I had to go to the bar and ask for my beer . The chicken wings were almost cold , super dry and like burned. The bartender snapped her fingers at my friends face asking him to hurry up and decide if he was gonna close the tab, and a nice girl we didn't know defended my friend for the mistreatment after she witnessed what happened, and called out the bartender.
