I order 4 half glasses and everything paired perfectly with the food. I came here on Sunday ($2 per oyster) and the wines were excellent and the food surprisingly good. MUST GET: - oyster with champagne from romaine guiborat. - hamachi crudo - roasted maitake paired with local orange (Buona Notte mortadella from Columbia George in Washington). Maitake was served with pinenut and rice crumble, which was delightful. I put the sauce with hamachi crudo in the roasted maitake and it elevated the taste. It can use a bit more balsamic vignegrette or lemon juice to elevate the mushroom taste even more. - dessert wine (2021 romaine ogereau, chenin blanc) was delightful. Very balanced. Subtle sweetness with perfect balance of citrus notes. A bit of apricot on the nose. A fine ending to the delightful dinner. Solid: Spaghetti with morel. Paired with 2023 Bruno verdi from oltrepo pavese Italy. I really liked the pecorino cheese that tempered the salty-ness of the spaghetti. I think the food would be better with a bit less oil. The spaghetti almost reminded me of the Asian noodles vs traditional spaghetti. read more

Okay, this place is cute! The entrance is down a narrow alleyway off of NW 21st, but there's more seating inside and outside than you might think. Underwhelming...The prices were insanely high for how little food we got...My friend literally finished his risotto in 2 minutes because there were at most four tablespoons of it. The taste of the food wasn't bad but the portion was ridiculously small for price tags of $30+. I got the Lamb Tagliatelle which was also very small and bland. The lamb was tender though. I see that they try to be novel and creative with their dishes which is great but you can't be cutting the portion this badly and still have a massive price tag. Service was also mid. I am a sucker for good branding and when I pulled the website up I WAS sucker punched by the cuteness of it. Some cute cocktails grabbed my attention and I loved the website, and it was a 6 minute walk. So winner winner cocktail dinner!!!! I had a Telenovela after I was informed, sadly, that they'd run out of Aperol, so I couldn't have the Control Disco. It was lovely. Refreshing, crisp, lemony and light. Perfect for a hot summer day. My husband went with the Water of Youth. I tasted his LONG before he did (lol) and it was nice. Very light citrus, heavy on the mezcal. Since he had barely touched his drink I got myself a Dirty Blonde. It was definitely heavier in alcohol than the Telenovela, but still very refreshing and citrus forward. It was pretty busy but the staff was friendly and pretty attentive. We did have to wait some time to get refills on water and new drinks but we were relaxing and enjoying some good cocktails before heading to Crystal Ballroom. Bar Diane was the first place we visited after checking in to our hotel and we were not disappointed ! We were initially drawn in by their natural wine selection but were held there by the amazing food, chic space design, and attentive staff. As newer fans of natural wine, we do appreciate guidance when selecting our bottles. Tyler was able to provide that and more when we discussed the vibe of the evening, our flavor profiles, and the food we were planning to order. Tyler's knowledge & recommendations were all perfect and really added to the overall experience. The food as a whole was very flavourful! I can't help but note the colors in each dish as well, they were fun and vibrant which matched the space too (hopefully my photos do them justice!). Coming from Texas, I also really appreciated the smaller portion sizes which were perfect to split between 2 while allowing us to try a lot of the menu. Our food order included the rolls with butter, oysters, marinated olives, burrata, little gem salad, cavatelli, and the steak (a significant spread, but we stayed for quite some time and were able to snack on everything while enjoying several bottles of wine). Overall the food was beyond amazing but I will note that the oysters were rather small so I personally may not order them in the future (though the sauce with them was so delicious and had some fruity undertones that I loved). We particularly loved the gem salad which we definitely considered doing a second order of. I also want to note that the burrata was amazing but for me personally the mushrooms with it were mind blowing! Honestly I would have loved plate of those mushrooms. The last thing I'll say about the food was that, while we enjoyed the cavateli, there was a mild, unexpected spicy kick to them. It wasn't off putting but I figured I'd mention it as it stood out to both of us. We still have several days left to the trip and I wouldn't be surprised if we came back at least once more. read more

Their tinned fish selection is good and the accoutrements were great. We told our waitress that we were "beginner tinners" and she recommended the smoked salmon because it would be more of a familiar taste and texture. What a charming little spot! I was searching for a date night spot and found this place on Google Maps. The website is darling, and though they don't offer reservations on it, you can view their seafood-forward menu, and another diner told me that she just called to reserve a table. We didn't wait long to be seated at a quaint indoor 2-top (vaxx proof required for indoor diners). Bar seating is also available, and they have two different outdoor sections as well. I loved the interior! It's a small space that you access thru an alley, but half of the walls are plant-filled windows, and I think the garden out back may have been where they grow some of their own veg. (Not sure, but a gal can dream :) I ordered the Vesper cocktail, which arrived in a lovely little coupe; hubs had a sparkling Chenin blanc. We ordered the sumptuous seafood platter (A+), our server's recommended salmon tartare (A+) the "little gems" salad (B+) and a tin of scallops in Calabrian sauce (D+). The scallops were a disappointment; probably my favorite seafood but they were mushy, though the sauce was nice. I would not order those again. They were served with gorgeous dinner rolls, salted butter, mustard and pickles that were delightful. We started our night here with a Pimms Cup and a glass of their orange wine. Both were delicious - the cocktail was not very sweet but very refreshing ! My only complaint is that we went on a Wednesday and asked to sit on the patio and only were told after we had been sitting there for a bit that we were required to partake in a flight tasting because they opened the patio for it specifically. So instead of ordering the orange wine we wanted, we got a flight of chilled reds. They were tasty but not exactly what I wanted. For food we shared a half dozen oysters, a tin of smoked mackerel (which comes with accoutrements and the most delicious milk buns) and a slice of Spanish tortilla. The oysters were outstanding, especially with their house made hot sauce. The tortilla was only okay (but admittedly I just got back from a trip to Spain so my standards are temporarily skewed). A new bar that is located on NW 21st that is not visible off the street (next to Eb n Bean). The interior has a very nice and modern feel. The ambience is pretty chill. They have a decent selection of wine and also cocktail menu with some light snacks. From 4-6 on Tuesday - Sunday is happy hour, with discounted drinks. We had walked past them multiple times and decided to try them out last night .The bar is located inside an alley behind the Ice cream shop and is also a bottle shop .There was a short wait of around 20 minutes before we could be seated .They also welcome dogs on their patio .The place has a very lively Portland vibe about it . Walls covered with wines and plants and mirrors ,really brought in the summer feels . There is a small patio on two sides of the restaurant and that's where they are currently seating everyone. The wine selection is huge and since I am still a wine Novice, I relied on the staffs recommendation and ordered a crisp glass of white wine . It was refreshing and Just the right thing for my taste . The hubby on the other hand ordered a Whiskey cocktail and said that it tasted ok. We also ordered the cheese platter and the Buttermilk Pie . The cheese plate comes with house made baguette and butter and I felt that those two were the only good things on the plate . The Buttermilk pie was soft , decadent and not overtly sweet and was gone within 5 minutes of it arriving .The staff is courteous and knowledgeable and checked -up on us pretty often . They also have monthly memberships for wine tasting and other events. We came in on a rainy Saturday evening to just get a dozen oysters and a glass of wine, which turned into two dozen oysters and 2 glasses of wine each. This place has a great vibe: Nice decor, a cute outdoor patio, and friendly staff. It's a place to go for drinks and small plates. It's a small menu with a few freshly made dishes, cheese, olives, nuts, and tinned fish. There isn't enough variety to put together a whole dinner, but everything we ate was an amazing burst of complex tastes and textures and unexpected surprises. The mushroom dish was out of this world with mushrooms, potatoes, kale, and a creamy sauce I couldn't figure out plus crispy, toasted buckwheat. The chicory salad was also delicious, and had popped sorghum, which was like teeny, tiny popcorn, which added a fun, crunchy texture. God, the amount of times I get suckered by good branding is almost appalling. But this time my susceptibilities finally led me to one of my favorite hang out spots in NW Portland. The highlights: You walk through the door and are surrounded by pink walls, brass finishes, bottles of wine, glowing lights...it's almost as if they planned on being Instagram material. You can choose to sit at a small table or at the bar, and personally I enjoy the bar seating so you can watch drinks being made and poured. They offer interesting wines that even the most seasoned Portland wine snob might rack their brains trying to think if they've had them before. Now for me, the highlight of their food offerings is oysters on the half shell. God bless these people for keeping their prices at $32/dozen. Have you seen oyster prices in this economy? I also typically order a tin of fish, lovingly cracked open and served with puffy milk rolls, pickles, and butter. A simple meal, but it brings me the joy I so sorely need sometimes. Since I'm a creature of habit I usually don't order off the larger plate section, but you tell me what you think. The improveables: Is it even a criticism to say the bar can be hard to find? Some might consider that a good thing, if you like to pretend you're in the know-how of underground Portland high society. Or maybe it would help to read the street sign placed at the entrance of the alleyway (not that I'm speaking from experience or anything...). Depending on the day this place can fill up quickly, and you might find yourself seated outdoors, lightly sheltered by a patio heater, still probably shivering and a bit damp because this is Portland in March. The size of a restaurant isn't always a negative, but it definitely makes finding a table harder on busy nights.
