Went for a work lunch. The staff was super friendly but the food and drinks were unremarkable. I would recommend going elsewhere. It's nice they take reservations.

My family took me to Café Nell this past weekend for my birthday, and we had an absolutely wonderful time! The food was delicious, the drinks were fantastic, and the ambiance was super chill--perfect for a celebration. Our server, Michael, was amazing--attentive, friendly, and kept us laughing throughout the evening. Even my teenage niece and nephew said they had a good time (and if you know teens, you know that's high praise!). I obviously feel the same as I am not a review person and here I am yelping. We'll definitely be back!

Cool corner brunch spot to enjoy a meal when you're in the area. I was honestly surprised at how much space this restaurant has because they have the indoor dining area, sidewalk space, and even a back covered patio. I made reservations in advance but you probably could be okay for brunch without a reservation given the large space. I enjoyed the back area because you could enjoy the sun under some space heaters. It gave some Parisian vibes. As for the menu they have your classic brunch items like benedicts but also some new items like stuffed avocado. The menu felt generally healthy options and I liked how you could get half orders of the benedits. I ended up getting the crab benedict on a biscuit which is a twist but enjoyed it. The biscuit was fluffy and paired well with the crab cake and soaked up the sauce. I was interested in some other items but would also be keen to check it out for dinner to try their other options.

Whether inside or out, the Euro neighborhood vibe is parfaite for brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks, etc. Dinner inside for an intimate date nite, sunny brunch outside to start the weekend. Either setting is so relaxing. Service is a little Frenchie too ~ poised & professional yet always attentive and truly visible they take pride in their work. Food is always tasty and the variety on the menu makes an interesting outing for the taste buds. A PDX favorite.

It's been a while since I visited this place. I liked that they have a great outdoor seating area that's covered. I had the French Dip and a side of fries. I enjoyed the beef from the sandwich, and the dip made the meat better. The fries were off good size to share with another person. Overall, it was a good place to go to, and i would go back for happy hour.

First time trying this spot. Someone on the Nextdoor app recommended this place. Cute restaurant, glad we came to try it out. The way it's set up outdoor and indoors is nice. Bar area, restaurant seating area separated. We sat outside next to the heater lamp they had. ‍ the food was tasty, my friend and I ordered the chicken paillard, and my other friend ordered a burger. Drinks were good. Service was great, all of them. Bathrooms are small but cute. Great location, parking is horrible though. For my chicken dish, and two martinis I think came to $50-$55.

Ask the Community - Cafe Nell

    Is Brunch kid friendly?

Yes, it is child and dog friendly

What is the purpose of the separate "tip" and "house tip" lines on the bill? Our party included people who have worked in hospitality and none of us quite understood -- just don't want to be undertipping!

We both currently work in the restaurant industry and this is a way to tip the back of house. In Portland it's pretty common for the service staff to tip out the kitchen on top of what they tip bussers and host staff. Last time we went to Nell we… Read more

It's getting cold! Brrrr, will there be heat lamps outside?

Yes, we have lots of heat. And even more on the way!

How late is brunch served on sundays?

I believe until 3pm. We asked why they didn't have the hours posted on their website and our server explained to us that their web designer left and they don't know how to update it.

Inside is dark and cozy, perfect for a rainy afternoon or evening. My only complaint is there is a lot of wood and all the hard surfaces don't reflect noise so it's sometimes challenging to hear. They have a wonderful assortment of wines and not all local. For me, that's a good thing. Yes I love a Willamette Valley Pinot or a Washington Cabernet, but I get a lot of those when I'm visiting these areas, which I do frequently. At Muse you can enjoy a red from France, Spain, Italy, as well as local. Lots of whites and some bubbles, too. You can do a tasting of three half glass pours of your choice, or order a glass. Some nights they have tastings that they have preselected. Last night, based on Alex's recommendation, after telling him my preferences, I had the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage from Paris. It was a bigger red, but so smooth. Next I went with the Rioja Gran Reserva which was more fruit forward. Another winner. Their cheese and jam plates are fabulous, the cheese especially delicious, and pair perfectly with the wines. Have a feeling I'll be back frequently to this charming neighborhood wine since my friend works out next door, so it's a perfect meeting spot.

The focaccia is dense and can make you full fast, but the garlic eggplant butter balances it out and makes me feel less full. It's hard to explain but it just makes me hungrier as I eat - The Young Yellowtail Toast is also a must get. The amount of yellowtail they give you is generous, it's refreshing with the lemon. We got this dish at the end of our meal. By that time we were pretty full, but the yellowtail gave us a second wind because of how good it was - The Gems and Chicories is good only if you like beets. THE BEETS IS WHAT MAKES THIS DISH, so if you're not into beets don't get this. Seriously I cannot stress enough how important the beets are and how it ties together this dish. As I was eating it, I was fairly unimpressed up until I had the beets. I had to kind of fish them out from the bottom, it was like they were hiding from me or something, but once I found them they completely transformed the salad for me - The Grilled Squid and Gremolata was forgettable, it wasn't bad by any means but the other dishes were so good it kind of drowned this one out to be honest - The Corned Lamb Terrine was also forgettable for the same reason the Grilled Squid was. I don't have anything bad to say, it just pales in comparison to the other dishes we had. Ambience: - It's a smaller place, it can fit maybe 20-25 people I think - There's a large floral display in the back wall that I was sitting next to that made for great pictures - I love all the hanging plants and the vases with plants, it zhuzhed up the place for sure. It almost gives a old timey Victorian vibe Overall: I've been to this place twice and I've enjoyed each visit. I do plan on visiting again sometime. It's a great place to meet up with friends for a drink and bites. I wouldn't go on a date here, it's a little too loud, I felt like I was screaming at my Fiancé for her to hear me. The wine is excellent and the food is good

I order 4 half glasses and everything paired perfectly with the food. I came here on Sunday ($2 per oyster) and the wines were excellent and the food surprisingly good. MUST GET: - oyster with champagne from romaine guiborat. - hamachi crudo - roasted maitake paired with local orange (Buona Notte mortadella from Columbia George in Washington). Maitake was served with pinenut and rice crumble, which was delightful. I put the sauce with hamachi crudo in the roasted maitake and it elevated the taste. It can use a bit more balsamic vignegrette or lemon juice to elevate the mushroom taste even more. - dessert wine (2021 romaine ogereau, chenin blanc) was delightful. Very balanced. Subtle sweetness with perfect balance of citrus notes. A bit of apricot on the nose. A fine ending to the delightful dinner. Solid: Spaghetti with morel. Paired with 2023 Bruno verdi from oltrepo pavese Italy. I really liked the pecorino cheese that tempered the salty-ness of the spaghetti. I think the food would be better with a bit less oil. The spaghetti almost reminded me of the Asian noodles vs traditional spaghetti.
