Portland is full of pasta-bilities, and Gumba is definitely one of them. I made the reservation through Tock, and the process was simple and convenient.When we arrived, however, it still took quite a while to get seated, which did make me wonder how much difference the reservation actually made. We started with a round of cocktails and a few shared bites for the table. The Fry Bread a Neapolitan-style bread served with Parmigiano and garlic-rosemary oil, alongside burrata was a great start. We also ordered the Charred Calamari, marinated with mint, parsley, chive, and red bell pepper, which was fresh and flavorful. For the mains, everyone ordered their own entrée, and the table generally seemed happy with the dishes. The Autumn Harvest cocktail ended up being a crowd favorite and paired really well with the meal. I also tried one of their vermouths, which I enjoyed. Overall, it was a good experience with solid food and drinks. However , nothing particularly stood out to me in a way that would make me rush back anytime soon. read more

Man Gumba, what a flavor journey you take us on ever single time! The restaurant is bright and colorful with lots of character. You notice the iconic wallpaper when you first walk in. We came on a Monday night for their Chicken Parm which was insanely good. This months (April 2026) Chicken Parm was vodka sauce, Mozzarella, topped with Bugatti, rapini leaf pesto, fennel, and pickled red onion. I got the vegetarian lasagna which also was packed with flavor. Do not skip on the dessert. When I am telling you the panna cotta is magical trust me it is. This was a spiced carrot panna cotta with candied walnuts, candied ginger and pistachios drizzled with a toffee sauce. Run don't walk to Gumba. read more

It feels like every time Gumba moves, they go a bit further upscale -- not so much the prices (although those have gone up too, but hey, it's 2026), but the style. I tried out the new location on Alberta for a date, and I was glad I did. The seafood pasta was only one step below Daily Catch's famous seafood linguine in Boston, just really excellent. My friend and I stopped in for dinner while in the Alberta art district. I was a little limited on what I could have being dairy and gluten free. I got the beet salad and some wine. Standout for me was the Caesar...not your standard dressing and salad, a little sweet, nice crunch with the croutons and still creamy. Wonderful. My cousin recommended this spot for Italian food. I made reservation for myself during dinner time. Gumba doesn't have a huge menu selection like other places. Very simplified menu. The interior and ambiance is cozy and nice. My server was attentive and listened to what kind of cocktail I liked and made me a "secret labubu." (Not on the menu anymore). Let me just say, it was pretty dang good! Something I would totally order and drink. Thanks!! I ordered the pappardelle and it came out piping hot! The pasta was made fresh and had a nice bite to it. And for an automatic 25% gratuity, which we were not told about prior, I expect excellent service, which we did NOT receive. I eventually saw it at the bottom of the menu...but that's neither here nor there. You're knowingly getting a 25% tip, so either you're not even trying because it's automatic and/or you just don't care and maybe you shouldn't work in customer service. The server was super nice and checked on us often. The ambience was super cute too. We ordered the Fry Bread and Charred Calamari for appetizers. For our entrees, we decided to share and got the Lasagne, Pappardelle, Ricotta Gnocchi, and Pork Saltimbocca. My favorite was definitely the Ricotta Gnocchi, the sauce was delicious! Gumba is an absolutely charming restaurant, perfect for either a date night or a girl's night. The restaurant has fun prints on the wall, dim lighting, and the coziest ambiance. My friend and I ordered too much food for just 2, but couldn't resist after looking at the menu - For appetizers, we ordered The Frybread and added the chicken mousse. The Frybread was delicious, deep fried and sweet, but with a hint of saltiness from the parmesan cheese they sprinkled on top. Unfortunately, I learned I wasn't the biggest fan of chicken liver mousse, but the bread still complimented it well with the balance. The addition also comes with pickled onions and pickled grapes I believe which was delicious. We also ordered the artichoke, perfectly grilled with a spritz of lemon on top and the most delicious salsa verde. It was spicy, sweet, and the best sauce to pair with. For our main dishes, I had the seafood pasta. It lightly spicy and the Calabrian chili gave it the perfect finish. It was a bit oily, but honestly, I ate every last bite. I wished the restaurant offered table side bread to soak it up. One thing to note, the mussels gave off a slightly fishy scent which made me worried. My friend ordered the short rib pappardelle, she thought it was tasty but found it a bit too salty for her taste. We wanted to end the night with dessert, but looked like they were out of the banana split and the brownie sundae. Luckily for us, our server offered their cannolis since that was the only dessert they had left, on the house. Extremely generous, and probably one of the best cannolis I have ever had. Pleasantly surprised by Gumba. We came in for a Friday night dinner and the host was able to sit us with little wait time. Simply put, this is one of the best Italian places in Portland. THE FOOD We had the flatbread, the Tuna & White Bean salad, and the Lasagne & EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. The white bean tuna salad was the best tuna salad I've had! It comes with generous amounts of tuna, marinated corona beans, quinoa, an apricot puree and is dressed with a lemon aioli. All the flavors came together so well. We opted for the lasagna with two beef meatballs and these are huge, the pasta is actually a spinach bechamel (which we didn't realize at first), zucchini, ricotta and mozzarella cheese. Highly recommend it! The flatbread is a MUST TRY - it comes out warm, is a HUGE portion size and literally makes you happy. THE ATMOSPHERE It's a cute space and could serve larger groups but it felt very comfortable for the two of us - I might not go larger than 4-6 if I were coming with others. Cute Goomba decorations are near the entryway which adds a light touch to the space. It was a nice relaxing dinner. Saw Gumba and knew it was perfect for a birthday dinner for my husband. We had a little glitch with making a reservation, initially didn't have the time we wanted but came back and got the exact time! So glad it all worked out as our meal was wonderful! Stopped in while walking Alberta on a sunny afternoon. What a gem. I knew it was good by reviews in past scrolling of restaurants. Started with arancini and fry bread appetizer. Unfortunately didn't get any pictures but really enjoyed my recent trip over to Gumba. Had been looking to go for a while now and finally got the chance. Worth the wait! The place is cute and tucked away in the back corner of a small plaza. The restaurant does appear small from the entry but extends around the corner to offer ample seating. Definitely best for small groups. The menu is not huge but does have a nice group of rotating options to choose from. I'll also note that 2/3 pastas when I went were vegetarian which I was surprised by. They all had the option to add meat. I personally went with the Pappardelle which was well cooked and came with a tasty ragu like sauce. It was a little on the oily side which would have been my only feedback but was overall a good portion and delicious. The fry bread we also got as a table to split which was tasty. It's much more dense than the classic fry bread you might expect but was tasty with the pasta and sauce. One thing to note is that if you get the burrata it's more of just a side sauce dish rather than a full burst on plate etc. Can't say it quite justified the additional price. The service was lovely and the atmosphere is quaint and homey. Enjoyed a great evening and would definitely come back again to try more. Just check the menu before you go! read more

Absolutely will be back. I was invited to a birthday dinner here. We had a reserved table. The waitress was very kind. All of the pastas are very hearty and filling. I had the lasagna and loved it. The vodka gnocchi was the star of the show. I will say that it is quite expensive. And there is automatic gratuity for parties of 5 or more I believe. We had a bit of trouble with a bill on our ticket with the free birthday dessert but the staff were so friendly and helped us understand what happened. The service was fast and attentive - the only misstep was that our server described different wines they were suggesting as salty and chalky. One of the best Italian meals we've had in Portland! Walked up at 5pm with no reservation and got seated at a quiet little corner booth. Service was quick and warm, drinks were out in no time. I loved the atmosphere Gumba had. As for the pasta, tagliatelle was my favorite out of the two I tried. The tagliatelle dish is made carbonara style with caramelized shallots, roasted seasonal mushrooms, burrata, sesame and olive oil. Shallots is a game changer for me, I love how aromatic and flavorful it made the dish! The pappardelle was good but a little bit too salty for my taste buds. The pasta itself was delicious and it had the perfect texture! The dish was made with braised beef short rib, toasted chili, garlic, olive, tomatoes, pecorino cheese, and bread crumbs. There's a lot to like, the entrees are quite unique and service was spot on but casual. The size of the establishment can house 1-2 large groups but I wouldn't say the venue is large per se so make a reservation, especially on the weekends. Nit-picky for the sake of doing it I would say the charred calamari everyone said it was a hair on the salty side. we had two folks who didn't want cheese on their entrées and they delivered. in fact, we wrote everything down as to ensure it wouldn't get too confusing for them. But they did miss the saltimbocca order. However, they apologized, gave us some finger foods to hold us over even though we had plenty of food, and the last dish eventually came... generously on the house to our surprise. It wasn't necessary, but I think it reinforces the subdued class Gumba wants to have. My thanks. With a not so large space any group 6+ will take a whopping 25% large group hit. that's understandable, large groups tend to stay longer and they take away from potentially other customers during peak hours. So just be aware of this. It was a shock for us because we didn't see a single warning. All in all a delightful unique Italian experience I will want to have again, just in a small group. read more

Beet salad: delicious dressing. So good that I saved it to dip my bread in. Don't miss this salad if you love beets.
