I've been here several times. I love the decor and overall vibe, the coffee and cocktails are great. The staff is lovely. And there are plenty of outlets and tables for remote working. I want to really love this place but there are a few things that kill it a little for me. Dear Sandy gets SO loud. People wise and music wise. To the point where I can't focus on work anymore, even with headphones in. Highly suggest they look into some sound proofing/absorbent materials. Musically--it's such a toss up of what you're going to get here. I came in one day and it was chill, older country music. Another day it was hip-hop so loud it was vibrating the bench I was on (during coffee hours). I came here with a dear friend of mine for a late night work session and this was the perfect place to do so. It wasn't as quiet as I would have thought it to be, but it has a really cool 70s vibe as soon as you walk in that I really loved. The oat milk chai latte that I got was perfect and creamy and I love the low lighting that it has late at night. I felt like I was in a different era, especially with all the pictures in the bathroom and the ambience at the place. Overall, it's a great place to go to feel like you're getting away from the 2000s and step back in time into the 70s with a bunch of mocktails, lattes, and also alcoholic drinks to choose from. The place is cute! I hadn't been to the Sandy area in quite a while but it's gotten nicer with time. There isn't any parking, but you can find street neighborhood parking about a 3-5 minute walk away. I came in on an early morning weekday and it wasn't too busy. There's a single barista making the drinks who walks them over to your table. Service was kind and quick. Overall I enjoyed the environment and it was a nice space with a good amount of chairs and tables to meet up with friends for coffee. The menu is a bit limited for caffeine, and the matcha was okay tasting. read more

No more complaining about lack of late night options, Portlanders, because Dear Sandy is open 8am-midnight and the whole menu can be ordered anytime: cocktails in the AM? breakfast sandwich at 10pm? an open tab for coffee?! I received excellent service during my recent visit for a midday coffee meeting. The bartender/barista was personable, available, and quick. The whole place gives off vintage 70s vibes with floral couches, funky lighting, and gallery walls. They've got wifi and space for small groups. They're located on Sandy Blvd at the very top of NE 28th. Parking isn't super great so I hope they're able to stay busy. OK, first of all, they are slower than molasses... That is not enough reason to not give them five stars because everything else is perfect. The concert itself is unique, clever, and much needed. You can have coffee anytime of the day up until midnight. Being able to serve alcohol supports the coffee shop to stay open late. The service is excellent and professional. Friendly, efficient staff, good latte, wifi, plenty of seating, good A/C. Ambiance is 1990s Brooklyn (NY, not PDX) lounge renaissance (AIR on the airwaves) meets early aughts hipster fare, like the dear departed Northeast Kingdom in Bushwick (RIP). There's plenty of tragic recycled visual art of variable quality in questionable wooden frames adorning the grapefruit and turmeric painted walls and a shit-ton of natural light pouring in to supplement the hodgepodge of 70s lampshades and pizza parlor lights. Parked my ass on a couch that must be a Lounge Lizard refugee (harvest printed velour to complement the ancient olive green La-Z-Boy across the way). This is what a cool, cozy coffee shop should be. Well decorated, amazing music, unique and flavorful drinks, and unpretentious. There's a real communal, local vibe that is the compete opposite of most sterile, modern and corporate feeling coffee shops. It's also awesome that they're open until midnight. More coffee shops should be open this late. It incentivizes that communal feel and makes you want to keep coming back. I'm knocking off one star for putting all the Virgin Mary pictures and candles in the bathroom. In my opinion, it's really disrespectful to peoples beliefs. And yes, I get the whole sacred vs profane thing they're going for with the other bathroom being covered in Playboys. Stick to the 70s vibe. The bathroom stuff is completely unnecessary. read more

I'll preface this review by saying the concept here is great! I love that I could finish my work day with a latte then switch to an adult bevy all in the same place- how appealing! We stopped by to check the place out this afternoon. It wasn't very busy, yet we weren't greeted or even acknowledged. That's fine, people are busy! We found a wet menu at the end of the bar and decided on a few drinks that were legible from the menu. We waited in line and when it was our turn to order, service was painfully slow. It appeared that the bartender was new or going through training, which I absolutely give grace to, but 15 minutes to make two drinks that are featured on your menu is a pretty significant amount of time. The real kicker here is that the bartender still did not say a word through this entire interaction. A friendly smile or slight acknowledgment goes a long way, especially when you're paying $15 for a drink with old garnishes. It's a cute place, and maybe they still have some kinks to work out. I'd stop by in the future as again, the concept is great- but they fell short in quite a few areas read more

I'm sorry but if an establishment has got everything right but the staff is unfriendly or curt, customers won't feel safe to come back. Ambiance is cool and cozy. Super happy that a place nearby me is open late with coffee options. Haven't tried any food but my drink was delicious. Tip for the bartenders: customer service is vital to a new business.
