Food was mid, nothing tasted great but everything edible. Banh Mi was particularly bland & disappointing. Fried brussels spritzing chewy & tough when deep frying them is usually a cheat code to make them tender. Garden Salad was not good, strange dressing & optional chicken was rubbery. The fries were the best thing, nice & super crisp! Our friends said the smash burger was good too. Place is charming, ambience is cool & hipster, really nice place to primarily grab fancy cocktails. I come here often for one specific item, the soy curl bahn mi. The Ginger Marg is also tasty, but i'm not a cocktail connoisseur. I have to have this delicious sandwich once a week (it's been like 3 months of this...) The bartenders are super sweet and whenever I say "no cilantro" one of them explains there is cilantro in one of the sauces & I say "i know but the leaves of the cilantro cause me to feel like i'm eating soap" at this point it's funny how im not recognized (ego!) I came here for cocktails with a friend on a Friday evening. She mentioned it was one of her favorite bars in Portland, so I was down since I had not been before. We waited about 10 minutes to submit our orders, and then another 10-15 for drinks to arrive. Additionally, we ordered the loaded fries which were perfect to share with a few people. I was surprised how well the fries held up with some moist sauces. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am a big fan of the decor and ambience, with good lighting that any gay would approve of. I had been craving their ramen so I got my whole family of 5 (baby included) together to eat at DD. Got there a bit before 5:30pm. When we order our food and drinks, the bar man informs us that "minors"have to be off premises by 6pm. Apparently he was referring to our baby. Ok. Nevertheless we placed an order and hurried to finish our meal by 6, which was unexpected, not relaxing, and unfortunate. Not 2 minutes had passed past 6 when the bar man comes looming over our table and basically kicks us out. Yes, we understood the situation, but the vibe/aura/feeling he gave our family was blunt and ungracious. To top off a terrible visit, the IPAs and cider we ordered were flat & flavorless. Also, the ramen I ordered has fizzled in flavor and craftsmanship from the last time I had it. We were staying nearby while visiting Portland and our host recommended this place. Glad we listened. The Banh mi sandwiches here are BOMB. Truly. I got the chicken, my partner got the pork. These sandwiches aren't traditional banh mi's but they are a wonderfully delicious version of them. From the fresh cilantro, to the crusty bread and the pickled vegetables in it, all the flavors and the textures were a perfect combo. Only downside was that I got a mocktail here since I don't really drink (it was a strawberry lemon mocktail, forgot the name) and although it was really pretty adorned with fancy ice, it tasted like cough syrup. Maybe they use a fake strawberry syrup? Was a bummer. Didn't drink it and it wasn't cheap. The ambiance here is dark and moody, especially at night which is when we went, but the staff was friendly. We sat at the bar and we asked for the check we weren't given an itemized receipt which I found weird. We had a long travel day and were tired so we didn't really care at the moment but I thought it was strange to order food and not get an itemized receipt. When I asked the bartender if she could switch it for a coke, she charged me full price. When I tried to explain that I wanted to do an exchange, she wouldn't budge. When I told her the Shirley temple tasted off, she condescendingly said with a sarcastic smirk, "It's Sprite and grenadine." Such a fun place to grab drinks! There's such a variety of cocktails to choose from and they even show you which glass it's presented it on the menu. I really appreciated that. The drinks we ordered (basically the entire menu for our group) were fun, colorful, and tasty. We chatted with the bartenders and they were fun to chat with. I went here with my wife on a Saturday night around 10pm. The vibes were great because there was a DJ playing a variety of chill music. We ordered food at the bar and it came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts and the Pork Belly Banh Mi and both were so delicious. I would recommend getting both of these dishes! The group next to us had the House Ramen that also smelled and looked appetizing. Brussel Sprouts - 5/5 The sprouts were crunchy and had big pieces of pork belly. The sauce that it had was sweet and salty from the fish sauce. We order Brussel sprouts whenever a restaurant has it on its menu and these are some of the best we've had. Pork Belly Banh Mi - 5/5 The bread was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside like how Banh Mi's are supposed to be. There was no dipping sauce but the combination of the all the ingredients didn't require any. However, we put some of the sauce from the Brussel Sprouts on and brought it to another level. We were hangry as we waited so we got both sets of fries -- the loaded ones (with bacon on the side since I can't eat any of it) and the regular fries that came with delicious sambal aioli. Started off strong with the fries and drinks but gosh the banh mi was suuuuch a let down. I was so so excited to try the soy curl banh mi but it was SO INCREDIBLY sweet that I literally took out pieces of the soy curls just to avoid the taste. The salad I ordered was honestly more of a highlight imo. This place is adorable inside and has such a spacious patio to chill during sunny days and may be a great place for me to swing by for a drink. However...if it comes to a vegetarian banh mi, I think I'll pass and opt to go elsewhere. Overall, parking is decent; though street parking.
