I came here for cocktails with a friend on a Friday evening. She mentioned it was one of her favorite bars in Portland, so I was down since I had not been before. I had the ginger margarita and wow...highly recommend. I also split the Easy Money drink with her and it was another winner. I did not order any food but it looked and smelled good. I noted there was food items on the menu that were listed gluten free which is always appreciated. There is street parking and can be hard to find during popular times. My friends and I went here after a tennis match. The inside was very dim, warm, and loud. I didn't mind the noise, but would understand if others did. The inside of the restaurant was warm with only a few of us in there, so it'd be smart to use their heat covered patio area! A new obsession that everyone seems to already swoon over. Double Dragon's main indoor space is hidden by the ample patio and covered/heating patio areas, which, are honestly quite fantastic for any weather. However, friends and I came here on a cold fall evening, and the warm indoors seemed better for our experience. We were lucky to find a small table right away, but, beware that the table space is small if you order a good amount of drinks and bites. Servers do not come around to take orders, so, be prepared to wait at the counter for some time depending on the night and time. We waited about 10 minutes to submit our orders, and then another 10-15 for drinks to arrive. Additionally, we ordered the loaded fries which were perfect to share with a few people. I was surprised how well the fries held up with some moist sauces. I am a big fan of the decor and ambience, with good lighting that any gay would approve of. Dimly lit warm spaces filled with plants are amazing, but, if you are tall like me, be prepared to duck for the vines. Restrooms are a little tricky given there are only two, and, I was waiting for several minutes in the way of servers and diners. I would certainly make this a regular spot to enjoy if I lived nearby. read more

When we order our food and drinks, the bar man informs us that "minors"have to be off premises by 6pm. Apparently he was referring to our baby. Ok. Nevertheless we placed an order and hurried to finish our meal by 6, which was unexpected, not relaxing, and unfortunate. Not 2 minutes had passed past 6 when the bar man comes looming over our table and basically kicks us out. Yes, we understood the situation, but the vibe/aura/feeling he gave our family was blunt and ungracious. To top off a terrible visit, the IPAs and cider we ordered were flat & flavorless. Also, the ramen I ordered has fizzled in flavor and craftsmanship from the last time I had it. VERY SURPRISED! Admittedly I do not dabble in Asian food very often; primarily for gastrointestinal reasons for someone 55+. Still.. I believe this is what they call "Asian Fusion." We were staying nearby while visiting Portland and our host recommended this place. Glad we listened. The Banh mi sandwiches here are BOMB. Truly. I got the chicken, my partner got the pork. These sandwiches aren't traditional banh mi's but they are a wonderfully delicious version of them. From the fresh cilantro, to the crusty bread and the pickled vegetables in it, all the flavors and the textures were a perfect combo. Only downside was that I got a mocktail here since I don't really drink (it was a strawberry lemon mocktail, forgot the name) and although it was really pretty adorned with fancy ice, it tasted like cough syrup. Maybe they use a fake strawberry syrup? Was a bummer. Didn't drink it and it wasn't cheap. The ambiance here is dark and moody, especially at night which is when we went, but the staff was friendly. We sat at the bar and we asked for the check we weren't given an itemized receipt which I found weird. We had a long travel day and were tired so we didn't really care at the moment but I thought it was strange to order food and not get an itemized receipt. I went here with my wife on a Saturday night around 10pm. The vibes were great because there was a DJ playing a variety of chill music. We ordered food at the bar and it came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts and the Pork Belly Banh Mi and both were so delicious. I would recommend getting both of these dishes! The group next to us had the House Ramen that also smelled and looked appetizing. Brussel Sprouts - 5/5 The sprouts were crunchy and had big pieces of pork belly. The sauce that it had was sweet and salty from the fish sauce. We order Brussel sprouts whenever a restaurant has it on its menu and these are some of the best we've had. Pork Belly Banh Mi - 5/5 The bread was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside like how Banh Mi's are supposed to be. There was no dipping sauce but the combination of the all the ingredients didn't require any. However, we put some of the sauce from the Brussel Sprouts on and brought it to another level. Alright, let's get down to my hot take about this place. I came to Double Dragon with a couple of friends on a Friday night for drinks, snacks, and banh mi. We were hangry as we waited so we got both sets of fries -- the loaded ones (with bacon on the side since I can't eat any of it) and the regular fries that came with delicious sambal aioli. Started off strong with the fries and drinks but gosh the banh mi was suuuuch a let down. I was so so excited to try the soy curl banh mi but it was SO INCREDIBLY sweet that I literally took out pieces of the soy curls just to avoid the taste. The salad I ordered was honestly more of a highlight imo. This place is adorable inside and has such a spacious patio to chill during sunny days and may be a great place for me to swing by for a drink. However...if it comes to a vegetarian banh mi, I think I'll pass and opt to go elsewhere. Overall, parking is decent; though street parking. We got fries (a tad too salty but crispy and the shape I like), Brussels sprouts (great), burger (unexpectedly one of the better burgers I've had recently), and pork belly banh mi. I think the banh mi is my favorite in Portland thus far. The baguette they use is more rustic style than French so it has a great crunch which I love. The cocktail we tried with alcohol was good.
