This iteration is perfect with its slightly gothic decor and a drink served in a dolls head shaped ceramic bowl/glass. The bartender was friendly, efficient and crafty. At some point they ran out of the pre-batched espresso martini and was making them from scratch to many compliments. The sandwich: amazing. Everything is vegan but there is nothing lacking. I got the cold Italian sub and it was what every sandwich should aspire to be with perfectly dressed, cold and crispy lettuce and pickles in between and assortment of "salami". This place is a treat, we really loved it. My friend said, "Okay, this is definitely going into the rotation." On a weekend afternoon, it wasn't too crowded, I think it's more of a night time place. But for us, it was perfect. The bartender/server was very friendly and kind. The Uncanny has a very fun, gothic look and feel. Part of the fun is trying one of the crazy cocktails. They even have unleaded (non-alcoholic) ones if you don't want booze. I decided on the Get Rekt, which is their version of a Vieux Carre. It was well mixed, strong and flavorful. My friend really enjoyed her blackberry cider as well. We thought the food was great. Though we love vegan food, we are not vegans. We decided to split two sandwiches. The Grinder was my favorite, very flavorful, with peppers that are just a bit hot, not burn your mouth off, so even a spice wimp like me could enjoy them. I couldn't identify most of the other fillings, except to say it was super delicious. The steak hoagie was also very good, it had a wonderful, smoky flavor reminiscent of steak. The sandos are huge, I brought some home to my husband, who also found it tasty. So that's three omnivores' votes for the food. My sister and I stopped by here on our sister day. The ambience was amazing, we loved the small details like the toy rat hidden amongst the spirits behind the bar. It's been almost three weeks and I am still thinking about The Uncanny daily! Seriously the best vegan burger I have had in my 20+ years of not eating meat. Even my boyfriend who eats meat is still raving about this burger. I visited The Uncanny on my trip to Portland, which I planned specifically for eating at vegan restaurants. While I certainly enjoyed many of the other plant-based spots, The Uncanny most definitely stood out. The Super Smash Burger is a must! So full of flavor and the fries are perfectly seasoned and crispy. We also had the Honey Mustard Chick'n Sandwhich and upgraded our side to mac n' cheese which was absolutely delicious. The Uncanny offers many spirit-free drinks, including the Juicy Lucy which is mixed with CBD soda. It was perfectly sweet and complimented the food nicely. The decor of this place is awesome and the female bartender brought a great energy to the place. However, seating inside is limited so I would recommend planning ahead. They do have outdoor heaters, but as a visitor I was a little chilly - still 100% worth it! Might visit Portland again just to eat here again! read more

I haven't been to the uncanny in a while! It's an all vegan cocktail bar with delicious bites. I was very impressed by the Mac salad ($6). It was perfect for summer and creamy. I feel like I don't get many opportunities to eat a Mac salad, so I was definitely impressed by its quality. Next, Dinger's Cuban sandwich ($18): the quality was good. Bread from dos Hermanos. However the fries reminded us of McDonald's fries so I was disappointed by the quality! The saucy minx was refreshing ($14). My type of Cocktail. Just like a spicy marg but refreshing from the cucumber. The ambiance was cool inside. It's a Victorian styled home, formerly known as psychic bar, with dark, witch-like vibes. Perfect place to visit for spooky season the older house vibe of this place is perfect with the theme here and the drinks wrap it all up perfectly. Drinks here were actually crafted cocktails not some gimmicky themed drink. It's GORGEOUS and I mean 'you already took your date to Sapphire Hotel and need someplace new to bring those romance vibes' gorgeous. If I was someone looking to take someone to a romantic spot they hadn't been to before, I'd def lean here (and even if they've been here before, the place is really good so they probably won't get mad if you bring them here again). Drinks! I got the That's Nectar which is pretty cute as the cocktails go! Aside from being a very pretty cocktail, it's ****ing DELICIOUS. It's a mix of rum, old tom gin, passion fruit, licore strega, clarified lime, bitters, infused with fruit... look man, just get it. I took one sip and thought 'this is a revelation (it is REALLY good)' I finished that bad boy and thought 'hmm Imma gonna get another one of those (as it is REALLY REALLY good!) Foods! I know it's trite, but FOR REALS if I didn't know this place was vegan I would've never known. Their seitan chicken is CONVINCING (and super yummy!), LOVED the shishito peppers as well (and super recommend getting them if you're there!) One thing I will say is that sandwich is HUGE. At 5:45 on a Friday the lower level was very busy but this place has a massive patio and an upstairs. The decor is witchy, broody and moody--glowing red neon adorning the windows makes this place hard to miss. It took a little while to get served but with how busy it was it was not shocking-- the server can cash you out with a mobile device that at least saves you a longer wait to close your tab. The drinks came out surprisingly fast and were really well crafted and a reasonable Portland cocktail price of $13 for how good they were. We really enjoyed the hint of coconut in their Major Tom (their take on the old fashioned). The food looked good as it came out to other tables and had a nice array of vegan options. Looking forward to trying this place again on maybe a slower evening but I can definitely see how this would make for a great date spot given its sensual vibe. read more

The bar itself is very cool, the kind of place you want to hang out. The people who work are there are super nice, friendly, and accommodating. Very cool spot with spooky vibes and fun decor. I got the Satan's Spawn beverage which comes in a creepy baby head cup (see photo) and it was not only aesthetically pleasing but tasty as well! My partner got the Wicked Wicked Girl cocktail and we both agreed it tasted extremely medicinal, but maybe it's just not our preferred combination of flavors. The drinks do have a shit ton of ice in them which makes them pretty small for the hefty $15 a pop but that might be the going rate for cocktails these days. We also got the tiramisu and it was the worst I've ever had. It seemed very old and stale, and just had a weird flavor and instead of ladyfingers it seemed to have some graham cracker something going on. We actually only had a bite apiece and tossed the rest, which was a bummer since it wasn't cheap. I would still go back, just steer clear of the tiramisu. read more

I wasn't even aware Psychic closed and a new place opened up until a friend recommended, we go here. We used to frequent psychic pre-covid and hence I was intrigued to see how it has changed . I must say that the name is perfect for a bar that took over Psychic and the menu pays homage to the Uncanny comic book. The layout is pretty much the same with an outdoor patio and an indoor bar . The décor and vibe certainly have undergone a change and I am here for that . I loved the small details like the hand painted walls and the beer taps with tiles as background. The menu is extensive complete with house staples, New Orleans classics, tropical standards and as is the new trend spirit free . I tried the Present Times and its only Forever and loved both . I also had a nice conversation with a few staff members and the knowledge with which they talked about the cocktails was really insightful . I love hearing about what different ingredients bring to a drink and I must say they put some good thought into that . we also had the Mezze plate and the Juniper fries and I felt the food was just alright , nothing stood out . Meh. That's my word for The Uncanny. It isn't special, it's got a nice interior, cool vibe, good (expensive) cocktails, and okay food. The service was okay as well. The food we ordered appetizers to share and the hummus was lumpy (sorry I like it smooth,) and the red pepper hummus was good but it wasn't WOW. It wasn't worth the $17. The Juniper fries were good, but WAY over salted. If they'd have had half the salt you could have tasted the brightness of the juniper coming through. But they were just MEH as well. I'm a HUGE fan of The Lightning Collective but this is by far a hard pass for me in the future. The menu graphics and decor were my favorite part of the night. read more

Best food we've had in Portland, and Portland is a great food city! None of us are vegans, but this vegan menu was absolutely delicious. Dining on their beautiful outdoor patio under hanging wicker lights, we had the unsauced "fried chicken" strips w super sauce and curry ketchup. The crispy crust was so delicious, both sauces were both perfect and different foils to the other. We shared the smash burger and fries and I was wondering-this melty cheese isn't vegan, right? The patties were thin w crispy edges and so much flavor I thought next time I might eat it without a bun. But the bun was delicious, so, I just don't know... We also shared the shishito peppers. Can't describe them, but get them. Don't like spicy peppers? Not a problem. Get them. And I'm not even talking about those cocktails... Outstanding vegan smash burger. I'm not vegan and almost always avoid vegan cheeses. But I was thankfully wrong about how good vegan cheese burgers can be. The burger itself had that fatty burger mouthfeel with the creamy and melted texture of genuine American cheese slices. I wish I had taken a picture of it. We also had the vegan chicken hot honey sandwich. This too was outstanding. The tender patty was thicker than I've seen anywhere else and so crunchy. It was all we could talk about. Alright this ticks all the boxes for me. Visited on 12/16. Cool decor, nice tunes, great vibe all around. Smaller in the inside so good for a smaller group/couple with loads of heated outdoor tables for larger groups. The menu was intriguing and the two drinks I had were some of the best cocktails I've had in PDX (their version of a Mai Tai complete with creepy doll head glass and fire show and a very delicious take on a Hemingway Daiquiri). They don't charge an automatic gratuity as mentioned in a prior review and service was fantastic. My new fave bar in my hood. read more
