Honey Mustard Chick'n Sandwich with Mac and Cheese
Stephanie L.

It's been almost three weeks and I am still thinking about The Uncanny daily! Seriously the best vegan burger I have had in my 20+ years of not eating meat. Even my boyfriend who eats meat is still raving about this burger. I visited The Uncanny on my trip to Portland, which I planned specifically for eating at vegan restaurants. While I certainly enjoyed many of the other plant-based spots, The Uncanny most definitely stood out. The Super Smash Burger is a must! So full of flavor and the fries are perfectly seasoned and crispy. We also had the Honey Mustard Chick'n Sandwhich and upgraded our side to mac n' cheese which was absolutely delicious. The Uncanny offers many spirit-free drinks, including the Juicy Lucy which is mixed with CBD soda. It was perfectly sweet and complimented the food nicely. The decor of this place is awesome and the female bartender brought a great energy to the place. However, seating inside is limited so I would recommend planning ahead. They do have outdoor heaters, but as a visitor I was a little chilly - still 100% worth it! Might visit Portland again just to eat here again!

Spawn of Satan

My sister and I stopped by here on our sister day. The ambience was amazing, we loved the small details like the toy rat hidden amongst the spirits behind the bar. We tried Prowl by Night, Spawn of Satan, & Surf and Rally. The bartender was friendly and was great about checking in to see if we needed anything.

I haven't been to the uncanny in a while! It's an all vegan cocktail bar with delicious bites. I was very impressed by the Mac salad ($6). It was perfect for summer and creamy. I feel like I don't get many opportunities to eat a Mac salad, so I was definitely impressed by its quality. Next, Dinger's Cuban sandwich ($18): the quality was good. Bread from dos Hermanos. However the fries reminded us of McDonald's fries so I was disappointed by the quality! The saucy minx was refreshing ($14). My type of Cocktail. Just like a spicy marg but refreshing from the cucumber. The ambiance was cool inside. It's a Victorian styled home, formerly known as psychic bar, with dark, witch-like vibes. I like the red neon lights that line up with the window. Service was quick. Great outdoor patio too because the inside is a bit smaller.

Perfect place to visit for spooky season the older house vibe of this place is perfect with the theme here and the drinks wrap it all up perfectly. Drinks here were actually crafted cocktails not some gimmicky themed drink. Service was super nice and helpful, bartender even helped me carry my drinks outside to the patio since I ordered a few too many drinks to carry haha patio area is a super chill place to be for these cool Oregon nights as they have heaters too! Recommend putting this place at the top of your list of spooky bars. Cheers!

If I didn't have photos to prove it, I would've put this on the 'this place is too rad to have existed' list! Full disclosure, was out with a vegetarian and decided to grab a quick drink before venturing down Mississippi. Who knew that the Psychic Bar was gone and had been replaced by this awesome spooky bar that is haunted by some of the friendliest bartenders in town? That said, let's get down to business! Ambience! It's GORGEOUS and I mean 'you already took your date to Sapphire Hotel and need someplace new to bring those romance vibes' gorgeous. If I was someone looking to take someone to a romantic spot they hadn't been to before, I'd def lean here (and even if they've been here before, the place is really good so they probably won't get mad if you bring them here again). Drinks! I got the That's Nectar which is pretty cute as the cocktails go! Aside from being a very pretty cocktail, it's ****ing DELICIOUS. It's a mix of rum, old tom gin, passion fruit, licore strega, clarified lime, bitters, infused with fruit... look man, just get it. I took one sip and thought 'this is a revelation (it is REALLY good)' I finished that bad boy and thought 'hmm Imma gonna get another one of those (as it is REALLY REALLY good!) Foods! I know it's trite, but FOR REALS if I didn't know this place was vegan I would've never known. Their seitan chicken is CONVINCING (and super yummy!), LOVED the shishito peppers as well (and super recommend getting them if you're there!) One thing I will say is that sandwich is HUGE. We split ours and the peppers and were barely successful in vanquishing Seitan (but it was super tasty so I'm looking forward to going back and vanquishing Seitan again!) That said, The Uncanny's like the best of dates. A little spooky, a little intimate, and a lot of memories so good you can't wait to go back

At 5:45 on a Friday the lower level was very busy but this place has a massive patio and an upstairs. The decor is witchy, broody and moody--glowing red neon adorning the windows makes this place hard to miss. It took a little while to get served but with how busy it was it was not shocking-- the server can cash you out with a mobile device that at least saves you a longer wait to close your tab. The drinks came out surprisingly fast and were really well crafted and a reasonable Portland cocktail price of $13 for how good they were. We really enjoyed the hint of coconut in their Major Tom (their take on the old fashioned). The food looked good as it came out to other tables and had a nice array of vegan options. Looking forward to trying this place again on maybe a slower evening but I can definitely see how this would make for a great date spot given its sensual vibe.

Cuuuuuute spot for drinks and/or dinner! They have a sneaky fully vegan menu and honestly probably some of the best vegan food I've had in Portland so far. Love the vibe of the place and fun wine glasses! Cute outdoor space too.

I might change this to 5 star - my only reason it's not right now is because I don't know how to gauge the ambiance because we were the first customers of the day. I love the spooky haunted mansion goth aesthetic. Super fun. The menus are cute, the drinks are well thought out, unique, and creative. I got the baby doll head cocktail - spawn of satan. Love my little baby head. The food is all vegan - right up my alley. The cheesesteak is so good!! It's wet and tasty would for sure get that again. The sandwiches are all from Dingers deli. They are filling and hearty. The server was nice and helpful, we were his first customers Overall this is a great place for cute craft cocktails or a vegan date.

I love the aesthetic/design/menus(!!) here. Everything is very pleasing. The food could be better, but the drinks have always been tasty & the atmosphere is charming.

So Cool!

The Uncanny is amazing! It looks like you're walking into a haunted house, and in the bathroom, they have a mirror that makes you look like a ghost! The bar itself is very cool, the kind of place you want to hang out. The people who work are there are super nice, friendly, and accommodating. There's plenty of outdoor seating in front and to the side. There's even a fireplace out front for cold days. As of the summer 2024, they have been collabing with Grass Fed PDX and Dinger's Deli to serve vegan lunch 11am-4pm Thurs-Sun and vegan dinner 4pm-1am everyday. The cheezsteak hoagie I ordered for lunch was SO GOOD. You must go here if you haven't been. So so good.

Lots of indoor and outdoor seating options. The drinks are creative and tasty, but are on the pricey side. The menu is relatively small which I liked. The three of us all ordered different drinks and tried one another's. Happy that we checked it out and checked it off the list. Not a place I'd come back to though.

Not a fan personally of the vegan aspect of the menu, but the atmosphere I loved, along with the music (Tasty moody house electronic when I was there). Service was good and the house drinks are interesting and very good

Have been to The Uncanny several times and it's always exactly what I want for happy hour or a night out. Bar hopping on Mississippi always means a stop by for fries and drinks. The servers are always super friendly and service is good no mater how busy they've been. Also - such a great vibe! The bathrooms are so cool, their outdoor seating is fun and heated, and inside is great (even though I usually end up sitting outside).

Ask the Community - The Uncanny

Does the kitchen close early?

Do they have all-gender bathrooms?

There are 2 bathrooms, and I took a picture of the bathroom door because I liked the door knocker and there's nothing on the door that specifies gender.

My friend and I definitely enjoyed our flights. Both of us liked half of our flights and LOVED the other half. By the end of the night, we were laugh crying. We also ordered cheese, crackers, nuts, and dried fruits. All so delicious and great to snack on while we sipped on our flights. The cheeses were delectable. We also got truffles to end the night off on a sweet note. Our server was so nice and kind. She was very helpful and I could tell she wanted us to have a good time there. I vaguely remember there being games at the front of the store. It seems like a nice place to just unwind and just have fun. It's a really cute and clean spot. Parking is atrocious, but that's not their fault, just a busy area.

Inside is dark and cozy, perfect for a rainy afternoon or evening. My only complaint is there is a lot of wood and all the hard surfaces don't reflect noise so it's sometimes challenging to hear. They have a wonderful assortment of wines and not all local. For me, that's a good thing. Yes I love a Willamette Valley Pinot or a Washington Cabernet, but I get a lot of those when I'm visiting these areas, which I do frequently. At Muse you can enjoy a red from France, Spain, Italy, as well as local. Lots of whites and some bubbles, too. You can do a tasting of three half glass pours of your choice, or order a glass. Some nights they have tastings that they have preselected. Last night, based on Alex's recommendation, after telling him my preferences, I had the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage from Paris. It was a bigger red, but so smooth. Next I went with the Rioja Gran Reserva which was more fruit forward. Another winner. Their cheese and jam plates are fabulous, the cheese especially delicious, and pair perfectly with the wines. Have a feeling I'll be back frequently to this charming neighborhood wine since my friend works out next door, so it's a perfect meeting spot.

Drinks: - N/A…read more Food: - The Focaccia w/ Garlic Eggplant Butter is amazing. This is a must get. The focaccia is dense and can make you full fast, but the garlic eggplant butter balances it out and makes me feel less full. It's hard to explain but it just makes me hungrier as I eat - The Young Yellowtail Toast is also a must get. The amount of yellowtail they give you is generous, it's refreshing with the lemon. We got this dish at the end of our meal. By that time we were pretty full, but the yellowtail gave us a second wind because of how good it was - The Gems and Chicories is good only if you like beets. THE BEETS IS WHAT MAKES THIS DISH, so if you're not into beets don't get this. Seriously I cannot stress enough how important the beets are and how it ties together this dish. As I was eating it, I was fairly unimpressed up until I had the beets. I had to kind of fish them out from the bottom, it was like they were hiding from me or something, but once I found them they completely transformed the salad for me - The Grilled Squid and Gremolata was forgettable, it wasn't bad by any means but the other dishes were so good it kind of drowned this one out to be honest - The Corned Lamb Terrine was also forgettable for the same reason the Grilled Squid was. I don't have anything bad to say, it just pales in comparison to the other dishes we had. Ambience: - It's a smaller place, it can fit maybe 20-25 people I think - There's a large floral display in the back wall that I was sitting next to that made for great pictures - I love all the hanging plants and the vases with plants, it zhuzhed up the place for sure. It almost gives a old timey Victorian vibe Overall: I've been to this place twice and I've enjoyed each visit. I do plan on visiting again sometime. It's a great place to meet up with friends for a drink and bites. I wouldn't go on a date here, it's a little too loud, I felt like I was screaming at my Fiancé for her to hear me. The wine is excellent and the food is good
