Hat Yai is a spectacular place to visit with a group - servings are medium sized, so sharing as many different menu items as possible is a real treat. The spice levels are, for me, pretty much perfect. There's lots of flavor without anything being painful. It's not a huge space, so their order-at-the-counter arrangement works beautifully for cutting down the amount of time spent sitting at tables with nothing to do. They have self-serve water and to-go container stations, so this is a very efficient operation. I don't like spicy food but I like flavor. So without dipping in any sauces I might as well be eating a grocery store chicken. My friends got more fun flavorful dishes like the curry dishes and they all enjoyed their meals. I did like the Roti as that is unique for Portland.
