So delicious! Everything was so good, it was one of the best meals in a long time. The chicken was flavorful, crispy, and so satisfying. The pad Thai was slightly sweet and chewy noodles. The best thing was the roti, it was crispy, light, and chewy. Dip it in the curry sauce and it was toe curling with every bite. To top it off, the servers were very nice and pleasant as well.
Excellent! Thai fried chicken is great. Dipping sauce is sweet, sour and a little spicy. We got the chicken for two ($33) and an extra chicken skewer ($9) and a couple of sodas. The quality of everything is top tier, but I do find it a few bucks into the pricey range for the amount of food, but like I said the quality is fantastic. The curry...omg, it's a small portion, but packs the flavor of a gallon! Roti, lovely. It is order at the counter, which is not really this person's thing, but to each their own. Love the chicken theme here and years ago I bought my partner a shirt and he gets asked about it all the time. Seems like a weird thing to mention, but it speaks to the thoughtfulness of this business, right down to the actually you'll wear and use--sweet chicken merch. :) Thanks for brining something different to Portland, much appreciated.
Second time here! The veggie curry broth is solid with the jasmine rice. The curry contains cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, and squash. The side of pickled vegetables is FRESH! It wasn't busy when I went, but there was a long line waiting during evening time. Since you order at the front, I recommend timing yourself before dinner so you're not stuck waiting for a table during the dinner wave.
good meal, a bit pricey or competitive if ubwill but id give it a between a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 its a "order at the counter, get a number and sit + serve yourself" type of restaurant. got the brisket green curry and the hat yai combo set. good fried chicken w the sweet sauce. then again you cant rlly mess up fried food. the malayu style curry and roti was absolutely DELICIOUS, prob the best thing of the set, however it was a small portion, i really wish they gave more. the side of sticky rice was good but a bit hard. the briskey green curry was very spicy but didnt win me like the malayu style did. id say id generally suggest to anyone to just stick to their signature (the friend chicken, malayu style curry and roti)
Good Thai - great flavors. Pretty decent pricing. I had the shrimp and fried tofu which was pretty tasty. The sauces were good. Favorite was the green curry brisket. Service was quick. The feel was casual. Self service water station. Open kitchen. A good place to grab a casual meal with friends or family.

They have a fairly straightforward menu, curry, fried chicken and a few other selections. They also have cocktails available. The food was good, not great in my opinion. I found the chicken to be bland (it came with a sauce that saved it). The pad Thai is good and different than a traditional pad Thai. The cucumber salad was incredible and a must order. Personally, I think there is much better Thai food in Portland.

Hat Yai for 2 (portion was perfect for two people, with a little bit leftover): - Roti was a little on the dense/doughy side, I would've preferred it to be more flaky and light. - The house curry was extremely rich and concentrated, a smidge too intense for me but very flavorful for dipping. - Though the fried chicken doesn't have that heavily breaded crust I'm used to, it was juicy and crispy. My gripe was that there was way too much white pepper used - every bite seemed to have a peppercorn crusted on the top. - Sticky rice was fine but slightly dry.
Hat Yai is a spectacular place to visit with a group - servings are medium sized, so sharing as many different menu items as possible is a real treat. The spice levels are, for me, pretty much perfect. There's lots of flavor without anything being painful. It's not a huge space, so their order-at-the-counter arrangement works beautifully for cutting down the amount of time spent sitting at tables with nothing to do. They have self-serve water and to-go container stations, so this is a very efficient operation. After multiple visits, I'm happy to report that I have not yet found any one favorite item on the menu - this is one of the rare places where everything I've tried has been spot on.
Recommend getting the chicken with the curry. The roti was nice and flaky. Also save room for the dessert roti
Came with a party of 5 adults and 1 kid. We ordered a Hat Yai (fried chicken set) for 4 (with an extra roti), a regular fried chicken set, and a pad Thai. Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food was quick Food: 5/5 Everything was absolutely delicious. The roti went perfect with the curry. The cucumber salad that came with the chicken was refreshing and the chicken was deliciously seasoned! The pad Thai was also great. If I ever travel back in town, I will definitely swing by again

I visited Hat Yai Restaurant based on a friend's recommendation and ordered Southern Pad Thai, Brisket Curry, and Thai iced coffee online for pickup. There's no dedicated parking, only street parking around the restaurant. I was lucky to find a spot this time. According to Google search, the restaurant showed a break between 3-4 PM, so I rushed to arrive before 3. However, I later checked the official website and found different business hours, so I'd recommend confirming directly on their website before going. The food was decent overall--the brisket curry was flavorful. I'd give this place 4 stars.
First time here and let me tell you -- it's worth the try! You walk in, order at the counter, then find your spot. The employees were super friendly and really helpful with the menu if you have any questions. Great ambiance overall and plenty of outdoor seating. The chicken curry and pad thai were amazing, and the hibiscus lemonade was so freaking delicious. Will definitely be back to try more things on the menu! read more
Came to Hat Yai for a late dinner over LDW's Friday. It was busy, but it's a fast/casual spot so as long as there's a table, you grab your number after ordering & paying, and sit. They do have 2 locations and this one does not have the soup I was hoping to order (whoopsie!). -Lamb Curry (a current special) was hub's favorite. He likes lamb, I felt it was a little too gamey. It's served with a roti and that was fluffy and good. -Pineapple Salad (another current special) was our favorite as well. With cucumbers and a sweetness from the pineapple. A little spicy, but also refreshing. -Brisket Curry, the reason I saved Hat Yai was a bit underwhelming. It does pack some heat and comes with rice. It became a bit too heavy/much after a few bites, I found myself constantly going back to the pineapple salad to lighten my palate. The brisket also wasn't as soft as I was expecting, so I'm not sure I'd order again. *Drink: Pandan Gin & Tonic was good! Light pandan flavor and smooth. Would recommend if you like G&T and want to try a small twist. Restrooms available, fairly clean. Service was pretty quick. Parking is a little tricky, we came a bit later at night and found a spot fairly easily. read more
Wow, what an amazing place! They are known for their fried chicken, so we got the fried chicken set with a wing. The pieces are wing, thigh, and drumstick. Perfectly fried and seasoned. The dipping sauce is sweet and delightful. There are also pickled veggies that are fine. The sticky rice itself is also decent. The roti and curry and absolutely the most flavorful I've had. The nonalcoholic coconut mango horchata tastes like a mango lassi and is sweet and refreshing. Lots of seating inside. You order at the front first before sitting. Highly recommend visiting here! Loved this neighborhood spot!! we were in need of something yummy, fast & casual. this hit the spot but exceeded in flavor The ambiance is cozy and cute, and the service was incredibly fast! you order up at the counter and then seat yourself at available spots. On a Saturday night around 6 we were able to snag a seat in the indoor area! My personal favorite was the house curry. It was flavorful and rich. perfect for dipping in your roti and your chicken! Also I recommend the southern pad thai. It was delicious and flavorful. To me, it had a deeper richer flavor than the usual pad thai i get and i loved trying it. read more
My first stop in Portland! And it definitely set the bar high. I ordered the curry roti set with chicken all of which was amazing and went so well together. The pickled veggies added an extra punch and the dipping sauce just sealed the deal. I also ordered some Chinese broccoli to get some greens in. Just driving through downtown Portland and randomly found this little gem when trying to find a quick bite. For a late Sunday afternoon. Found the place packed with a younger crowd. I shortly found out why as the food was good but the prices were even better. We were able to feed all four of us for just over $60. We reached order something different but I do have yo say hr fried chicken was the best. read more

I went a couple days ago with a small group and had a decent experience. We went for dinner around 7pm on a Friday and it was pretty busy, luckily we got a table inside. Service did take a little bit to give us our food after we sat down, but not too crazy of a wait. I got the southern pad Thai and didn't like it to be entirely honest. It tasted weirdly tangy and the chicharones tasted stale. My friend got the Phuket noodles and also didn't love them. I got a ranch water and it was pretty good. Overall: mid Thai place in Portland, good location but there's better food out there for sure. read more
I wish I took better photos to do this place justice!! Honestly, my favorite meal of my entire Portland trip. The service was fast, the restaurant was clean and spacious. The food was insanely delicious. We got the pork with rice and the set with a half fried chicken, curry, and roti. The pork belly had a familiar and comforting flavor that paired so well with the white rice. The curry was rich yet simple and was the perfect dip for the flakey roti. The fried chicken was definitely the star of the show, with whole spicing coating the outside. It was crisp and flavorful without being too heavy. The pickles and sauces that were provided were all a hit. I wish we had a Hat Yai in SoCal!! read more
y friend and I shared the Hat Yai Combo for Two, and it was excellent. The Thai-style fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned with garlic and spices. The roti with curry sauce was buttery and flaky, perfect for dipping -- easily the highlight of the meal. Portions were generous, service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. We order the half chicken, Hat Yai for 2, Neau Pad Yi-Rha and Chinese broccoli to be delivered so I cannot speak to the cleanliness or friendliness of the staff. The food was ready and delivered on time. The chicken was great! Wonderful flavor on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Hat Yai was also really tasty. The dipping sauce was and added bonus. The Neau Pad Yi-Rhi was tough but had decent flavor. I was also surprised by the amount of spice this had while other dishes on the menu stated if they were spicy. We'd definitely return for the chicken and Hat Yai. read more
Midweek chicken cravings led us to Hat Yai, and wow--now we get the hype. Because it was early in the evening, we lucked out and only waited about 15 minutes for a table. I went classic with the famous fried chicken, then leveled it up with crispy fried shallots and a side of roti (that buttery Thai flatbread you didn't know you needed). The chicken? Just as incredible as everyone says--crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The space is cozy and bustling, so expect tightly packed tables and fast service. Heads-up: parking is street-only and can be tricky near Grand Ave. Best bet is to park a couple blocks north or east and stroll in. Definitely worth the detour. Hat Yai delivers. read more

We went on a busy Friday night and despite being packed we were able to order and get seated very quickly. The cucumber salad was crisp and fresh but still packed with flavor. Hat Yai is amazing! It is usually difficult finding gluten free food, especially asian, that is good on its own right, not just because it's gluten free. This is a quick and casual spot for comfort food. Will definitely be back! read more
Hat Yai is a great southern Thai spot with a simplified menu and a quaint, modern interior. You go up to order and the food came shockingly fast. I got the "Hat Yai for 2" complete with fried chicken, rice, 2 roti, and curry. The roti was perfectly buttery and flakey, which was amazing dipped into the aromatic and comforting house curry. The chicken was flavorful and juicy with a lightly fried exterior. The portion was perfect for two moderately hungry people. My only gripe is that there wasn't more curry to dip everything into! read more
Hat Yai fried chicken is super famous in Thailand (and yes, I'm Thai), but I've never tried the original version in Hat Yai itself--so I can't speak to authenticity. That said, the fried chicken here is incredible! Super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and it comes with sticky rice, curry, and naan--such a satisfying combo. We ordered the portion for two, and it was massive. The sweet dipping sauce was nice, though I personally would've loved a spicy jaew sauce. Not sure if they have it--I didn't ask since I didn't see any Thai servers and wasn't sure they'd know what I meant. We also tried the Southern Pad Thai. I've never had that version before, and while it tasted like a saltier take on regular pad Thai, it didn't really stand out for me. The vibe is super casual. You order at the counter, grab a number, and seat yourself. It was packed when we went around 7:30 PM--felt a bit hectic--but turnover was quick, and we got a table fast. The staff was really kind and helpful--even though it's counter service, the team running food went out of their way to help us. Overall, such a great experience. If you're looking for something different and are craving fried chicken, this is the place for you. The Thai fried chicken comes with a sticky rice, roti and curry with some pickled veggies. Servings are generous, and the food is served nice and hot and fresh. We also enjoy the spicy duck curry, and it was a pretty good level of spice. I enjoyed it, but some people at my table thought it was a little bit too spicy. Living in the Pacific Northwest it is hard finding stuff that is actual spicy for us that crave that hot kick. This place definitely brought the heat. Also tried the alcohol alcoholic horChata and it was delicious. Service was efficient. The place was pretty crowded on a Wednesday night. It is an order at the cashier and then find a place to see after you order. read more

It looks pretty meaty. My whole family LOVES chicken, but I a vegetarian. Would this work for us or should they wait until I am out of town?
