My friends and I tried this place out, and ordered a bunch of things. I like how they're pretty creative with their meat selections; like soft shell crab, trout, etc. So, if you're bored of the usual chicken or beef, this may be your place. Most of my friends liked their dishes, but I honestly was disappointed with the crab fried rice I ordered. I felt the dish to be mostly scrambled eggs, with some small bits and pieces of actual crab on a bed of not-so fried rice. I just think for nearly $20, I'd be getting a better dish. Otherwise, I did try their Pad Thai, and that was pretty good and tasted authentic. The service was also friendly and great. If your about the ambiance, its pretty IG friendly with the colorful wallpaper and decor. Give this place a try if you like creative thai food, and ur about the vibes. We went on a friday evening around 5-6pm, absolutely empty. should have taken it as a sign but i've seen such great reviews. Super cute interior with lights and greenery hung and the pink theme was perfect for date night spot. Server was okay, we were left for a while before even being served water (it was empty inside, why did we have to call someone over for water and again to take our order??) Okay, the food wasn't terrible but the zaap pork wontons were $11 for such a tiny portion. They were really soggy and had an oddly fishy flavor during some bites. This, I would not recommend 1/10. We tried the mango curry and the flavor was phenomenal and unique but the chunks of mango were so big it was unpleasant to try and scoop and bite giant chunks. The curry was creamy and flavorful. Again, tiny portion of rice paired with the bowl of curry but overall was 8/10. We shared these two items for around 30$ and left feeling like we didn't eat much at all. Haven't been here for a year and I feel the eulogy of the food has declined. Pad Thai shrimp was and eggplant was good but the crispy pork belly used to be cut into way smaller pieces and way more crispy. The larb was shockingly fat. I didn't order it with pork belly but it came out look like very fat pork belly and it just didn't suit my taste. The seasoning was just ok as well, not amazing. The drinks were where the real disappointment was. Both drinks we order was suppose to have a thick layer of foam on top but my friend's drink barely had a matcha foam and you can't even see it in my Thai tea because it didn't float at all. read more

I visited Rukdiew on a Saturday to dine at around 5pm and was immediately seated and greeted. The location was very cute, though offered a more grubby and casual appearance (I do like the cotton candy machine in the front). My partner and I ordered the Pad See Ew and the Pad Thai which were $16 each, along with a Thai tea and cherry blossom lychee drink that were $4 and $5 respectively. The Pad See Ew was good, it had the sweetness that was expected, though I remember being a bit indifferent about the noodles. What blew us out of the park was the flavor from the Pad Thai, we have been to a handful of Thai restaurants in Portland, and none have compared to this one (we wish we got two)! The Thai tea and cherry blossom drinks were good as well, Thai tea to be as expected and the cherry blossom being a sweet floral lychee drink. We loved the Pad Thai so much that we later ordered takeout another Saturday along with some friends. We told them how amazing the flavor was and that it was necessary that they try it, but to our surprise, we were met with dull/flavorless Pad Thai. The juxtaposition in quality from eating in and ordering take out was astonishing, to the point where many of us didn't eat it all. It had no flavor (which was the aspect we were so enchanted by previously), I'm not sure what happened with this order or in the weeks prior, but it has definitely lowered my view on this restaurant. I was excited to have this location be our go-to Pad Thai spot, but the large gap in consistency in quality is something I'm not sure I'd be able to take another chance on. I have very mixed feelings about Rukdiew and am honestly just very confused (I really wanted it to be a consistent success). I may try their Pad Thai again when dining in, but honestly, that last experience brings a great deal of apprehension when ordering again. I am indifferent about recommending Rukdiew due to the lack of all flavor in the takeout order. Though, I have noticed, with a different Thai restaurant, when ordering takeout, we were also met with a lesser quality than when we dined in previously. I chose not to assign fault to the fact that it was a delivery order as both locations are within a 8 minute drive from me and had flaws that weren't time sensitive. If you have a larger party, then make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. The dining experience was elevated by the interior decorations. It was pink themed and I loved the wall of portraits. The cotton candy machine was awesome! It was a great experience to make your own cotton candy after dinner. The staff members were very attentive and the food came out quickly. I ordered the pad see ew and thought that it was too salty for my palate! The Thai iced tea with coconut milk was delicious. And, their cocktails look delicious. This was a rough experience. Everything I wanted to order they didn't have so I ended up getting the coconut shrimp, crab fried rice, shrimp pad see ew, and Thai tea. The service and interior decor was nice but the food was not good. The coconut shrimp were burnt on the outside and the crab fried rice was not even fried rice. Came here twice and both times the noodles were soggy and overcooked, the sauce is very sweet and not savory at all. Cod with pad thai: The fried cod was super good but the noodles paired with the peanut sauce eh super overkill. Pad see ew: Both times noodles were very soggy and broken. Sauce overly sugary. This place is very cute and pink and finally were able to stop by after having passed by so many times. Our meal unfortunately was pretty mediocre. The pad kee mao with pork belly was alright but a lot of the pork belly was way over cooked. The salad rolls also had maybe a half of a shrimp in them but the peanut sauce was perfect. Eating here always makes me feel like it's my birthday, regardless of the time of day or year. The decor is so festive and cheery and it makes me happy :) The food is also delicious too. There are many great options to choose from! Only reason I dock a star is for service. The staff seems friendly in general, but they tend to also rush through things and get impatient. They dropped the check way too early in the meal, and it wasn't accurate because we ordered more things that we hadn't received yet, stuff like that. I came here on a date. I loved the fact that the menu has a variety of traditional Thai dishes as well as fusion dishes. It was nice to see pork belly on the menu too. I ordered the shrimp green curry made Thai spicy. The green curry was just okay. It was not as flavorful as other restaurants' green curry I have had, nor was it made Thai spicy. I did love the aesthetics of the place and the service. I would come back to try something else, as my date had liked this place since he comes here a lot. The ambiance and decor is beyond cute, the servers are super nice, the food came out SO fast, the cocktails were on point, and the food was BOMB! The decor is very cheery and cute--pink on the outside, eclectic inside. Even the dishes and flatware are pretty. The service wasn't super attentive but it was very friendly, and once we ordered our food arrived very fast. Everything we ordered was delicious. I like that they have old standard Thai dishes like pad thai but also quite a few dishes I haven't seen elsewhere. Portion sizes are generous; we all had plenty to take home. On a warm Tuesday evening, the place was busy but not crowded, and at 5:30 or so we were seated right away. Just spent $19 on khao soi takeout. I have usually brought this amount of food home with me as leftovers. I was given 5 tiny pieces of shrimp after paying $3 more for this protein selection, and there is barely enough soup broth to make this a proper soup; it's more accurately wet-ish flavored noodles. Prices are going up everywhere but this just feels beyond. Sadly will stop recommending this place and definitely won't be back. We stopped into Rukdiew Cafe for the first time during Portland Wing Week and we had a great time! The featured Crispy Larb Wings had the perfect crunch with bold, tangy flavor -- definitely a fun twist on traditional wings. For our mains, I had the Pumpkin Curry which was delightful. My husband ordered the Panang Curry, also excellent. The decor deserves a mention too -- fluffy white lights, playful hanging ornaments, and a cozy, festive vibe that made the space feel like you've arrived at a party. And then... we spotted the make-your-own cotton candy machine in the corner. Such a fun surprise! Neither of us had done that before, and it was a sweet, lighthearted way to end the night. What a stunning little space! Went there for lunch right when they opened so it wasn't very crowded. The food was phenomenal and reasonably priced. We started the meal off with some fried Tofu. It came with a sweet sauce, I myself like a bit of heat so asked if they had anything and they so kindly made me one which was perfect! Then followed that with a Larb Salad, well seasoned and everything tasted super fresh. The green curry was last, we got it with vegetables and while they weren't the 'traditional' veggies you'd expect they all worked well in the dish. Whenever we come into Portland to visit my wife's family, we end up at Rukdiew. My wife's brother loves the restaurant and it's easy to understand why. It's a small sit-down Thai place with a delightful charm and fantastic food. I've been a total of three time and each time I've been had a fantastic experience. There's a very homey charm with a very pink color scheme for the restaurant and plenty of seatimg designed for parties of 4 or also space to host ten or more. This time around we had the fresh rolls (tofu) and crab rangoon. I got the lava noodles with chicken this time but my go-to the last two times I went before was the trout pad thai. I also sampled a bit of the sun dried Thai pork jerky from the Mom's special menu - the Pad Thai Moo Tod. I really enjoyed the fresh rolls. The vegetables were nice and fresh and their take on tbe peanut sauce was great. It's lighter and slightly spicy but with a fantastic flavor. The crab rangoons are also, as always, amazing. I highly recommend them to anyone, especially if its yoyr first time. The filling is creamy and sweet and delicious. I enjoyed my lava noodle; the broth is a spicy sweet as opposed to spicy. I think my trout pad thai is still my favorite but the noodles were a good change kf pace. All in all, this is a top comfort homey Thai cuisine that you definitely should go for if you're in the Portland area. read more

I just ordered Pad Thai as take out and it was so flavorless that I had to make my own peanut sauce to add. My order before that was Pad See Ew with pork belly and it was so sauce less, with dry noodles and low quality pork. The pork was so fatty, chewy and not crispy at all. We are so lucky to have this in the neighborhood. I met a coworker here for a weeknight meal as she reported they had amazing food and a good vibe. It wasn't super busy around 6pm and I was sat promptly. I was waiting on a friend and brought water to drink. The decor is interesting and has a Hallmark Holiday vibe (Valentine's Day plus Christmas plus mother's Day all wrapped in pink chiffon). I had to duck at times since the ornaments hang so low, but it makes it unique for sure. Restrooms were adequate as well. But food stuff now! We ordered the fresh rolls to share, and I ordered the pork larb. The salad rolls were fresh, with crisp produce and a delicious dipping sauce that wasn't super sweet. The larb and sticky rice were delicious, funky with fish sauce, and well seasoned. I was sad they didn't have half of the specials (pork belly!) on their specials menu as I had really hoped for that. It's a very fun and playful idea - All the ornaments hanging from the ceiling is a cool sight to see but for taller folks it might feel like a boxing exercise to dodge all of them when maneuvering throughout the restaurant - I like the maximalist décor. They definitely take any opportunity they can to fill up wall space or even ceiling space for that matter which offers a lot to look at. It might get even distracting at times since there's so much going on, but I like it Overall: The food here is good, but to be honest if you're going here it's for the experience. I think this place being named a "cafe" is confusing (maybe why I was the only person there on a Saturday afternoon). As I explained to the one woman working there, Americans think of cafes as places for breakfast and lunch where one finds hot and cold beverages, pastries (both sweet and savory), sandwiches .... . The menu is fairly long (which always makes me suspicious that the cook doesn't have time focus on each item) and all Thai food. I had yellow curry and thought it was fairly bland in comparison with Portland's other well know east side Thai restaurants. The decor was tolerable. The prices were less than similar restaurants in the area. If you're hungry, in the neighborhood and want to save money it will do just fine. The first dish I tried was the trout pad Thai and I can't imagine it gets any better than this. 100% my favorite Thai dish to date. The rice itself is so flavorful, and I loved having the option of crispy trout. As a pescatarian, I usually only have the option of vegetable fried rice. I made a second order of trout pad Thai, expecting I'd like it more since pad Thai is my go-to dish, but found that I prefer that dish without the trout and I'd rather order the crispy trout fried rice. We ordered pineapple fried rice, drunken noodles both vegan friendly with lychee hibiscus drink and tamarind juice (all juices are canned). The service is slow. They wouldn't refill the water until you ask them and the food arrived too late like 15 mins apart. We waited after my food was over for the next dish ordered by my friend. They also messed-up our order by adding eggs in them, though they did fix it. The pineapple fried rice weren't really fried rice and were more like curried pineapple rice. There were no vegetables apart from onions in the rice and a weird curry powder mixed in over cooked rice. I didn't like it at all. Though I must say the setting is super cute and perfect for cozy evenings or friendly get together. I wouldn't go back but it's definitely a cute setting and can be visited for pictures.
