Masa y papa Torta and mocktail

Went to guero for my first time this week and was impressed! Loved that they had vegan options for two of their tortas, which were still super flavorful and crispy. The decor is super cute, the space is filled with plants and beautiful colors. The service was great and they helped guide me for vegan options. I also loved their n/a cocktails, super balanced, citrusy and felt like an upscale cocktail.

Great, friendly service! The restaurant is clean and inviting. Food is great! The Hamburger and guacamole was really fresh and tasty. The only complaint I have is the salsa was fresh, but just needed a bit more flavor. Maybe a dash of vinegar to liven it up? I don't know but it needed something extra, so I put in some of the Güero sauce and that helped a little. Good and friendly establishment to go to!

My dad was craving tortas and I knew that Güero was going to be the perfect spot for him to enjoy a good torta. The staff is always so kind and helpful with recommendations. The food itself it's super tasty and although there are not too many vegan options, the vegan options that are available tasty amazing. This time around I ended up with the Masa and Papa torta and my dad got the carnitas - both were great. Super , decent size and just what a good torta should be. The ambiance definitely reminds me of Mexico City, Roma Norte or La Condesa vibes and I mean that in such a wonderful way.

Loved everything about this place. I was weary about my cocktail cause I'm not a fan of mezcal but this wasn't as intense and smoky as a normal one. The torta ahogada was really yummy. I would skip the tostada next time! When I come back I'm going to try the hamburguesa because my sister ordered it and it looked amaaaaazing. 10/10

Stopped by for a quick dinner. Found street parking relatively easily and arrived at 5:30 PM, which was perfect. By the time we left around 6 PM, the dinner rush had started and a line was forming at the door. The interior is well decorated, modern, and clean. The server was friendly and service was fast. We ordered the bowl, one with carnitas and other with avocado. Both were very tasty! You can tell that the ingredients were fresh, the carnitas were tender and well seasoned. They also had a mango hot sauce brought to the table in a bottle that is amazing. I drenched my bowl with the sauce for the extra kick and flavor. The bowls are very filling. We ended up boxing up half of our food to bring home and finish for a late dinner. Would definitely come again and try their hot sandwiches. Will have to look into whether they sell their mango hot sauce separately as well. I'd buy a bottle!

I stumbled upon this restaurant looking for a new place to eat. It was cute inside, and we were seated right away. They have tortas, pozole, and bowls. I decided to get a chicken bowl with avocado. It was so colorful, and full of flavor. There was rice, cheese, beans, chicken, pickled onions, arugula, and a sauce. It was so filling! My total was $20 ($13 for the bowl, +$4 for chicken, +$3 for avocado.)

Wow. Wow. Wow. That is all I have to say. Güero was absolutely delectable and took our breaths away. It is a place that specializes in tortas, but they are done so well. This place was our absolute favorite from our time in Portland. We got their Pollo Pibil. This was a huge torta and we split this. It was so savory and delicious. The shredded chicken was so tender and flavorful. I'm craving it just writing about it now. We also got the Ahogada and the Tostada De Camote. Both were also really good and big portions! The drinks were fabulous and nicely sweet. Definitely going to make it back soon!

Delicious. I have had multiple good meals here, and I absolutely recommend. Chill ambiance and attentive service. I dont always love gotta, but theirs are awesome, bread is perfect texture and super fresh. Bowls are awesome too. Very solid Mexican if you want a sit down spot.

I had a take out bowl and gee was it stuffed! If you're able to I would recommend having a separate bowl to mix it up well to enjoy. I liked the carnitas and the tamarind tomato. The differences in textures and flavors was very welcome. Felt very fresh and pretty healthy.

While it's usually packed, Güero has outstanding ambience for a casual little spot. As a gluten free person, I appreciate their bowl, which is delicious.

Every time I am in Portland I make it a point to stop at Guero because it has become one of my favorite go-to spots in the city. Their tortas are exceptional and I have tried them all. Not one of them has disappointed but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the Ahogada which is perfectly balanced juicy rich and deeply flavorful every single time. Guero also has fantastic drinks and their destilados offering is truly outstanding. Whether you are exploring mezcal tequila or other agave spirits the selection here is thoughtful and exciting. I have had some meals at the bar where the bartenders were genuinely engaged knowledgeable and happy to walk you through their agave list which only enhances the whole experience. I will be honest and say that the service can sometimes lean into the typical Portland vibe of aloof and uninterested but there have also been moments especially at the bar where the staff really shines and makes you feel welcome and taken care of. Even with that quirk the overall experience is fantastic and it does nothing to take away from how much I enjoy eating here. If you are in Portland and love great tortas bold flavors and exciting drinks Guero is absolutely worth a stop. I will continue to come back every time I am in town and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal.

Popped in for lunch and got the bowl. It was good but I wish there was a bit more flavor. I love that it's built with arugula. There are a lot of stuff textures in the bowl. Loved the corn in it. Service was great. Inside was very beautiful with lots of seating.

Such a nice spot in a cute neighborhood! The bar area and decor are very welcoming, and so are the staff. I had my giant suitcase with me, and my server asked if I'd like the suitcase safely stored in the back until I finished my meal..super helpful! My torta was flavorful and loaded with chicken, and the mango salsa gave it the perfect added acidity. I was definitely eyeing the hamburger that the person next to me was eating, though. It looked juicy and flavorful. I told my server that I was headed to the airport, so she gave me paper and a box to securely wrap my leftovers (the sandwich was pretty big!). I sat in the cute outdoor seating area to take in the neighborhood while waiting on my uber. Definitely a must-visit!

    Ask the Community - Güero

Do you have gluten free substitute for the bread?

No they do not, they suggest to get the bowl or tostadas instead for gluten free options

So, really no tortillas here? I'm Mexican, I need a tortilla to eat my food.

Correct. It is a torta-centered restaurant.

Can you plain rice in the bowls instead of lime rice?

Probably not. Mexicans put lime on almost everything. Perhaps they could switch over and offer the lime on the side...

And I kept that promise to myself. When we arrived, we were fortunate enough to find a table even though the place was packed. The seating isn't the most comfortable, especially for a format like this where you're likely to have multiple plates and dishes covering the table. Navigating around the table and squeezing in and out was a bit challenging, but thankfully we managed without spilling anything. The food, however, more than made up for it. We tried several different dishes and loved every single one. The dry-rubbed lamb was fantastic, and the tteokbokki was equally delicious. Service was good, and the food came out fairly quickly. For drinks, we tried the chamisul, which paired nicely with the meal. Another major plus is that they're open fairly late. There are always those nights after bar hopping when you're suddenly looking for somewhere serving good food well into the night, and this definitely feels like a place I'll be adding to my go-to list from now on.
