Torta

Had a torta agoada and let me say so juicy and flavorful. Presentation was bright and colorful. Atmosphere was chill and loved all the decor.

Breakfast burrito
Adam Z.

I was originally planning on going to my favorite coffee shop, Courier Coffee, for breakfast. They didn't have any seating though so I wanted to just find something simple. I went on Google Maps and saw La Real. They had a 4.7 average review. I saw a breakfast burrito for $7.75 on their menu with hash browns. I was sold. I love hash browns and a cheap, simple breakfast burrito sounded perfect. Then when I get there I see, iirc, that it says $9 or something on their menu. Whatever. Then when I order I see that I'm charged $10.50 for the burrito plus another $1.00 for the chorizo. Nothing mentioned being charged extra for meat. Anyway, it's not that I think $11.50 for a breakfast burrito is unreasonable or anything, but there's something a little off-putting to me about being mislead. As for the food, I wasn't a fan. - The hash browns that I was excited for had no crisp at all. I was really craving the crisp, so that was disappointing. - The chorizo had a nice flavor, but in this burrito it was pretty overpowering. - In general it was extremely oily. - I also thought it was too salty. I tend to like a lot of salt, but this was too much for me. - It really could have used some sort of contrast. Like maybe some sauteed onions, or beans, or something acidic thrown in there.

Torta Al Pastor

Came for a torta, and it was super tasty! The bread was nice and toasted. The al pastor inside was perfectly flavored. I loved the salsa bar and that they also had escabeche as well as radish slices. Staff was friendly, and the space was clean. Will definitely come back sometime!

I would give 3.5 stars because was not impressed with the food...more so the prices. I learned a lesson with what is considered birria here...birria tacos here is just juicy meat in a regular street taco form. And I took away a star because my coworker asked if the corn cups were fresh corn, which she was told they were - but it was definitely canned or frozen corn. But kudos to this place for having inexpensive prices for a downtown establishment

Absolutely beautiful service and even better food. The workers here are amazingly nice amd respectful. The restaurant is very clean and put together. They have a great salsa bar and they food has amazing flavors and definitely worth the money u pay for sure recommend i came here 2 nights in a row just for the amazing food

Just landed from LA to have the best chicken tacos!!!!! The salsa bar along with their fresh agua frescas ( pineapple/mango) was so fresh! I ordered tamales to go since I know they'll be bomb I hope to make my way back here soon

Torta and Quesatacos

Servers were nice. Atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant. Most importantly me and my friends all enjoyed our food. Good authentic mexican food as a mexican.

Tamale

Order: Tamale (pork), 3 taco combo Pros: the place is clean and nice inside. Service was great. The sauces were really good as well. I loved that they served tamales as most dont even offer. Cons: the tamale wasnt bland and lacked seasoning. The taco meat was dry as if it had been sitting for quite some time. The beans were just okay as well. Overall, this was not my favorite Mexican spot.

We ordered the Quekas with vegan chorizo and black beans and they were SO good, honestly a standout. The chips and guac were also a hit, and I loved that the guac was actually cold. Such a small detail that makes a big difference. The Citrus Salad was super fresh, crisp, and delicious, which balanced everything out perfectly. I also tried the NA classic margarita and it was so refreshing. I loved the subtle touch of orange juice. Overall, such a lovely spot with amazing food, great vibes, and thoughtful details. Today my wife and I enjoyed scrumptious Tacotes, one chicken and one Bok Choy with house made salsa. Also, the Tetela de Requeson, maiz, beans and sprouting broccoli with a house made requeson - kind of like ricotta cheese - very beautifully plated and so delicious. Extra side of yummy and creamy black bean frijoles with sour cream, butter, tortillas. Instead of desert, the Mezcal, chile and lime was refreshing. Right now open for lunch Thursday through Sunday 10-3pm. No fixed menu, changes with what's fresh - the way chef Angel loves to cook respecting what is in season. Service and ambiance is friendly and knowledgeable about the food and its origin - another reason I love dining here so I learn about what I'm eating and how it was inspired. Yes, the food plated looks so good, I am inspired to dig in. There's a reason it was recognized early in its start by Eater, Portland Monthly and the Oregonian as one of the best restaurants in the city because foodies seek out and love to go where the food experience is special - especially the chef tasting menus in the past. Now I'm watchful and ready to go back and see what the chef Angel is serving up. What else is so special is Republica was a James Beard award nominee too!

I was excited to go here as I had been meaning to visit for at least 6 months. I wasn't disappointed. This taqueria is the real deal, and very authentic. I also appreciate it's LGBTQ owned, and like to be inclusive in how I spend money. The tacos are amazing I had two there, and took two home. They were all delicious and not one disappointed. Their taco menu is very extensive, and it's nice that they have a lot of vegetarian options as well. One of my favorites was the one with mole ,and poblanos, also the chicken one, also the carnitas. Flavors so rich and satisfying. The staff is very friendly, and helpful. Extremely quick service which I love. Even though I only speak a little bit of Spanish. I tried, and they were very welcoming. They are fluent in Spanish. I knew it was an authentic taqueria when I heard a native spanish speaker speak Spanish at the counter. I don't want to leave out their drinks as they have quite a selection both alcoholic, and non alcoholic. I tried the horchata, which was amazing. I have been craving Pozole for a long time, and they had it as a special chicken with green sauce, and pork and a red sauce. Both simply amazing and a great deal. This restaurant is very reasonable, and you get quite a lot for the money. Last but not least I can't forget the ambiance which felt very authentic, and reminded me of being in a Taqueria in Mexico or Southern California. the place is decorated very thoughtful with a lot of candles, and many shrines. They also have a love of Mariah Carey and saw many photos of here in the restaurant. They have both outdoor seating and indoor seating. A lot of plants outside which all seem very happy and well cared for. I love this place, and will be going back for sure. The place is very casual which I appreciate. By the time we left around 6 PM, the dinner rush had started and a line was forming at the door. The interior is well decorated, modern, and clean. The server was friendly and service was fast. We ordered the bowl, one with carnitas and other with avocado. Both were very tasty! You can tell that the ingredients were fresh, the carnitas were tender and well seasoned. They also had a mango hot sauce brought to the table in a bottle that is amazing. I drenched my bowl with the sauce for the extra kick and flavor. The bowls are very filling. We ended up boxing up half of our food to bring home and finish for a late dinner. Would definitely come again and try their hot sandwiches. Will have to look into whether they sell their mango hot sauce separately as well. I'd buy a bottle!

I have had some meals at the bar where the bartenders were genuinely engaged knowledgeable and happy to walk you through their agave list which only enhances the whole experience. I will be honest and say that the service can sometimes lean into the typical Portland vibe of aloof and uninterested but there have also been moments especially at the bar where the staff really shines and makes you feel welcome and taken care of.
