    The Verde
    Rachel H.

Super cute set up, there is plenty of seating at the bar outside and a fire pit right beside the shop. We tried the Verde and the Chorizo con Papas, Both were so balanced, and wonderful. Also, the crust was incredibly light and chewy. Very impressed! Service was kind and we will absolutely be back.

Not sure what all the hype is on this place. I was really looking forward to trying this out because of the name and the high rating on yelp. Maybe most of reviewers were drunk from the neighboring bar. I don't want to sound too harsh but here's my experience. The place is small but we went early so it was not busy. I think we might have been the first customers of the day. The employee was nice and helped us decide on the pies were got. He said the hot honey was good on the pizza so we said we would try it. Little did we know we got charged $1.50 for it. I think if they are going to suggest something, they should warn you it's not free. The pizza came out in a reasonable time. The crust was overly burned on the bottom, middle was a bit thin. Toppings and crust were dry not much to enjoy. We paid for a side of ranch which looked homemade and tasted like sour cream with dill. Overall not the best pizza in town. I would suggest to skip this place, unless you're a few drinks in from Holy Ghost then I guess it wouldn't matter.

    Taco Tuesday pizza special

Great vibes and the pizzas are decent. What I like is the fresh ingredients but the crust is soggy in the center, so kind of like limp pizza. I went on a Tuesday night and had to try their "Taco Tuesday" special, and it really did taste like taco ingredients (ground beef, cheese and shredded lettuce) but on a pizza crust instead of tortilla. Not sure it was a success because I felt it needed a drizzle of some kind of sauce, but I give them credit for creativity. The pizza spot is tiny and you order and then you have the option of sitting in the patio with fireplaces or in the Holy Ghost bar. Great neighborhood spot and if you like tasty soft pizza crust, then that's what's served up here.

Pan con queso shares space with Holy Ghost brewery and 28 Tigers. The Pan con Queso spot is akin to a hole in the wall but all three businesses use a shared patio space. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We had the chorizo con papas pizza, and straight up, it was exactly that. I assume the other pizzas are just like they are advertised. I will come back and when I do, I will update this post

Pizza was thin and full of flavor, they had different types of pizzas and all of them look really good, me and my friends try 2 of them; El chingon and new pizza La hawaiana, both of them were pretty good. We also try their caesar salad, and omgggg it was so fresh, crunchy and full of flavor. Cashier/server was nice, we talk to him about different pizzas and gave us some recommendations. Ambience was nice, they have outdoor and indoor seating.

    El Chingon! Must try!

For those seeking a creative twist on traditional pizza, Pan Con Queso delivers both in flavor and atmosphere. Their dedication to quality ingredients and innovative recipes makes it a must-visit spot in Portland's vibrant food scene. However, guests can enjoy their meals at outdoor picnic tables or take advantage of the adjacent Holy Ghost Bar's seating area. The friendly and accommodating staff enhance the overall dining experience. The pizzeria's crust is crafted from a multigrain sourdough, fermented over several days to achieve a chewy texture with a subtle tang. This foundation complements toppings such as cotija, cilantro, chipotle, and corn, resulting in flavorful combinations. Pictured is the pizza El Chingon!

I recently started working in a new office, and with that came the excitement of exploring all the new dining options nearby and, of course, cross-referencing them on Yelp. One place, in particular, caught my eye: Pan Con Queso. I browsed their menu and immediately noticed a pizza named "El Kevin (McCallister)." I thought, "OMG, I have to go there ASAP!" (For reference, my social media handles are inspired by "Home Alone", which is one of my all-time favorite movies.) As I looked over the rest of the menu, I saw "El Chingon," a pepperoni and pineapple pizza with a Latin/Mexican flair. In my opinion, pepperoni and pineapple is a far superior and more underrated combination of toppings than the standard Hawaiian that everyone gets. Growing up, I thought I was the only one who loved this combo, but I later discovered that there is a small yet passionate and devoted fan base for it. IFKYK. I was torn between the two, but I knew I couldn't just add this place to my TDL, I had to go TODAY! I pulled up PCQ on Google Maps and headed there after work, only to find out they had moved locations. That didn't deter me, though, and I made my way to their current spot on SE Gladstone, which wasn't too far away. When I arrived, I was disappointed to learn they were out of pizza for the day. The staff was really friendly and told me that although it happens from time to time, it's pretty rare. I was let down, but I was determined not to let that ruin my day, so I made an effort to return the next day. I had a horrible day at work and in my personal life that day, and all I could think about was getting that pepperoni and pineapple pizza to cheer me up. I called ahead and showed up even earlier this time, only to be told again that they had sold out. They were deeply apologetic. At that point, I was facing some pretty devastating things in my personal life, along with a big health scare and not getting this pizza that I was so excited for 2 days straight really felt like those cartoons where the clouds would follow the character and just dump rain while everyone else is perfectly dry. Some time had passed, and I received a call from PCQ. They had somehow gone through the trouble of tracking down my phone number to tell me that my next pizza would be free of charge. That gesture was honestly the first bright spot I'd had all summer, and I was so grateful. I finally returned to PCQ about two months later and mentioned that I had been told my pizza would be comped. The two female staff members (Mikayla and Abby) lit up and replied, "Phil?" I was floored. I couldn't believe they remembered my name. Even before eating my food, I knew this was an experience I would treasure for years to come. (Food review on a subsequent visit)

    Chorizo pizza

Really wanted to like this place, but was disappointed . Crust a little too thin for the toppings. They loaded on the pepperoni, but ended up as a puddle of oil in the middle, cheap pepperoni ? On the other the chorizo was skimpy. But the pizza was flavorful. Probably won't return. I will say the service was friendly and quick, so if you're drinking at the attached bar, okay . But to take home, eh

We had the El Chingon pizza, it was one of the best pizzas we've ever had! We are only in Portland for a few days and definitely returning before catching our flight back home. We recommend it 110% !!

    Elote pizza

Saw someone post a video about this place online and I immediately was very interested in going, so I knew that as soon as I could, I wanted to go and try it out. The front and the kitchen is very small. It was cold outside, so we sat inside Holy ghost, and we just hung out until our pizzas were done. We got an appetizer of the jardinera, and it was delicious. They have cactus cooler as a drink option, but they were out so we decided to get strawberry Fanta. we ordered three pizzas, so it took a little bit, but it was definitely worth the wait for sure. The crust was delicious, and had a depth of flavor regular pizza crust does not have. I ordered the elote pizza. My friend is a little less adventurous and he ordered the pepperoni pizza, and then my other friend ordered the chorizo y papas pizza. We all swapped a slice of our pizza so we could try all three and I was blown away with all the different flavors that where achieved on our pizzas. My pizza the elote pizza had a wonderful creamy sauce, pieces of corn, bright cilantro and a wonderful array of seasoned flavor that you can only achieve with the blend of elote ingredients. Even the pepperoni pizza was better because of the type of pepperoni that they use. And the sauce flavor was excellent. I don't usually like red sauce pizzas, but this pepperoni pizza still really good That chorizo pizza however, was so many layers and flavors and dimensions of taste. I could not believe my senses, the taste of the chorizo, the creamy of the potatoes, and the cilantro crema on top was so good. It reminded me of breakfast and away. It was spectacular! and nothing we ordered was overly spicy or too mild. If it was supposed to have a kick, it had a kick. We usually like Ranch with our pizzas so we ordered a couple ranches, and the cilantro crema dipping sauce. The sauces are made in house and the ranch was divine. Everything tasted really amazing and I can't wait to go back. Maybe one day the pizzas will come in different sizes, but for now a 12 inch pizza made with hard work and love, will be enough for me. I have no notes on the food because I was absolutely in love with it, but I was really looking forward to cactus cooler soda, and I wasn't expecting such a small store front, but since it is attached to Holy Ghost, there is outdoor seating with a fire pit, and you can sit inside holy ghost, so that was a definite plus, because when we walked up and saw that there wasn't much seating inside of the store we were kind of worried that we would have to sit outside in the cold, but the person who took our order told us we can be inside, but with the fire pit and the outdoor seating I can imagine this place being very popular since it's in a cool area.

My 97th Portland pizza spot. And it's a lot more than 'break with cheese.' How all the toppings work together--very tasty chorizo, love the fresh mozz, and the red sauce has a real zing to it. I don't like kale but the little bit here was fine. Amazing how such a thin crust can have such strength. The char factor near the border of almost too much, but not quite. The Living Haus space is cavernous and industrial, but the tree slab tables add a touch of atmosphere. Very friendly service.

We ended up boxing up half of our food to bring home and finish for a late dinner. Would definitely come again and try their hot sandwiches. I have had some meals at the bar where the bartenders were genuinely engaged knowledgeable and happy to walk you through their agave list which only enhances the whole experience. I will be honest and say that the service can sometimes lean into the typical Portland vibe of aloof and uninterested but there have also been moments especially at the bar where the staff really shines and makes you feel welcome and taken care of. My husband & I, my sister and my son all went for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but we were all pleasantly surprised. Everybody but me got the spiced lamb souvlai, which was ground meat on a skewer. I tried the oregano chicken. Mine was tender, flavorful grilled chicken. I loved it! I have always thought of souvlaki as a Greek version of a gyro-meat in a pita wrap with sauce & veggies. Not here. You get the meat and a pickled vegetable and that's it. That's why you need some sides and bread. The bread is better than a lot of pita I've had. We also got an order of hummas (some of the best I've had anywhere. Maybe it's because they put a dab of zhoug-a mixture of herbs & spices packed with flavor. It was as smooth as silk), as well as beet salad. It had quinoa that seemed to have been fried because it had a slight crunch which I loved. It was the perfect foil for the golden beets and radish in the salad. We ordered just the right amount of food for the 4 of us (one piece of pita each, one salad, one hummus and an order each of souvlaki). I noticed some vegetarian options on the menu as well. We all agreed we want to come back and bring the spouses who couldn't make it. Looks like I forgot to take pics of the meat. You'll just have to be surprised!

They were fried too much and they weren't anything special. The fries were also nothing special the least they could've done was actually melt the cheese on the fries to make them gooey but they didn't even do that. The service was wonderful. And I did enjoy having the kitchen in the middle of the restaurant so you can watch some cooking your food. However the food here was not worth coming back for. I'm starting to realize a lot of people in Portland don't have sophisticated pallets they're probably the same people who think McDonald's serves gourmet cheeseburgers. I also don't understand why a Greek restaurant is serving Middle Eastern food like falafel? It would be nice if they had strictly Greek dishes and stuck to them and made them really well. I don't know any other Greek restaurant in Portland especially on the east side.
