The menu isn't overly large, which I actually appreciate as it makes choosing much easier and suggests a focus on doing a smaller number of dishes well. We ordered: * Hummus * Spanakopita Hand Pie * Spiced Lamb * Loukaniko Sausage * Oregano Chicken The food was excellent. Everything was simple, thoughtfully prepared, and packed with flavor. There wasn't a lot of fuss or unnecessary complexity ,just well-executed dishes that let the ingredients shine. We genuinely enjoyed almost every item we tried.The cocktails were every bit as good as the food. In fact, I liked the Liquid Gold so much that I ordered a second one. There isn't much in the way of traditional table service since it's a café-style ordering system, but everything ran efficiently. The service was great. Everyone was friendly, we were seated and received our food quickly despite it being busy on a Saturday evening. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy. I loved the wood fire as it kept us warm. As for the food it was not bad but not good either. The wedge salad is one of my favorite salads but the Bluto Wedge has a lot going on. Too many rich flavors, to the point of too much. It tasted like horseradish, with dill, and bacon grease. I personally love the taste of salad so don't need mine drenched in dressing like this one was. The Greek fries were cooked well but again too salty and over seasoned. I've had Bluto's on my list for quite a long time. It's been touted as the best Greek food in Portland. Well, who am I to differ? My husband & I, my sister and my son all went for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but we were all pleasantly surprised. Everybody but me got the spiced lamb souvlai, which was ground meat on a skewer. I tried the oregano chicken. Mine was tender, flavorful grilled chicken. I loved it! I have always thought of souvlaki as a Greek version of a gyro-meat in a pita wrap with sauce & veggies. Not here. You get the meat and a pickled vegetable and that's it. That's why you need some sides and bread. The bread is better than a lot of pita I've had. We also got an order of hummas (some of the best I've had anywhere. Maybe it's because they put a dab of zhoug-a mixture of herbs & spices packed with flavor. It was as smooth as silk), as well as beet salad. It had quinoa that seemed to have been fried because it had a slight crunch which I loved. It was the perfect foil for the golden beets and radish in the salad. We ordered just the right amount of food for the 4 of us (one piece of pita each, one salad, one hummus and an order each of souvlaki). I noticed some vegetarian options on the menu as well. Was excited to finally get to try this place out and it did NOT disappoint. It looks a bit small from the outside but the inside is quite large and there was plenty of outside seating. The staff was very friendly and took their time with me as I navigated through the menu. The meats were delicious but the surprising star was the Shrimp! SO GOOD!! And it's like a marinara type sauce on it and it complimented it really well. I'd have to say my favorite thing though was the wedge salad. That ranchziki sauce is no joke and was so tasty. Decided to stop in on a rainy afternoon to have a snack. I was hoping to get a little Mezza platter a little sampling of perhaps hummus, their housemate pita and some falafel balls but they don't offer such things. And since I didn't want to order half the menu I just went for the falafel balls and the halloumi fries. Again I think it's bizarre that they don't offer a little sampler platter for you to try a few things. But I digress. The falafel balls were hard as rocks. They were fried too much and they weren't anything special. The fries were also nothing special the least they could've done was actually melt the cheese on the fries to make them gooey but they didn't even do that. The service was wonderful. And I did enjoy having the kitchen in the middle of the restaurant so you can watch some cooking your food. However the food here was not worth coming back for. I'm starting to realize a lot of people in Portland don't have sophisticated pallets they're probably the same people who think McDonald's serves gourmet cheeseburgers. I also don't understand why a Greek restaurant is serving Middle Eastern food like falafel? It would be nice if they had strictly Greek dishes and stuck to them and made them really well. This is my go-to delivery spot, but I've never been to the actual restaurant until today. Staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the restaurant itself was very cute and clean. "Wood-fired and Greek-inspired" they say. I say, whatever they're doing in the kitchen, keep it up: my Oregano Chicken (skewer) came out perfectly moist and wonderfully seasoned, like almost ideal temperature-wise (but a bit small portion-wise). The hummus was beautiful as well, silky smooth and drenched in a delicious pool of tasty olive oil. Our table loved it, but it's like all the food is a la carte - hummus did not come with pita as you'd expect. That's an extra $3 - a piece. At least it was warm and nicely seasoned, but it Just feels a bit nickel and dimey, especially since the hummus ain't exactly cheap and the pita is just one slice. Our third dish was the Greek fries, which came out just the way we like 'em, light and a bit crispy on the outside, tender inside and smothered in a pile of good seasoning; even a lovely hint of lemon in them. Yum. It's a short- order casual style setup, with a fairly limited but focused menu; order at the counter, take a number and a server will find you. Happy folks take your order upfront and a charming server delivers the goods. The system seems to work great in a clean, simply decorated space, though it's a bit pricy for what you get. Still a pleasant experience; where they shine is the cooking process, which seems to elevate every dish. . Word of warning; seems like this place has a lot of fans, and there was a line out the door on a late Saturday afternoon (we thought we beat the rush by coming early). This is my second time at Bluto's and it was just as good as the first! Everything I've tried has been amazing: hummus and pita, falafel, braised beans, zucchini and lentils, beet salad, and the Greek fries. The only thing I'd pass on next time is the soft serve because I found it to be a little icy, but that may just be a personal preference. This is a nice little cozy spot with fresh ingredients. I tried the traditional hummus, cucumbers, and lamb skewer. The hummus was super creamy and gigantic! The line was pretty regular/ever present and there's not much space before it's out the door, and most tables were full when we arrived between 5-6pm. The meats were all nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the hummus was fresh and flavorful. Wow Bluto's blew me away with every single menu item we ordered. The spiced beef hummus was the first time I've ever had meat incorporated into the hummus and it was DELICIOUS. I'm not a huge fan of hummus but this one was so good - I loved that it wasn't too acidic for me and it was the perfect blend of savory and sweet. I loved the additional texture with the hazelnuts. The next thing that impressed me was the charred carrots and cress. Wow to have the char flavor come through on the greens took it to the next level for me. The falafels had a great crunch and the beets were such a nice and refreshing contrast to everything else. The sauce on the plate did taste a little soapy to me so that's why this wasn't in the top spot for me. Last but not least, the lamb and chicken skewers were both juicy and seasoned excellently. The pita was chewy and fresh - the size is a little small though so definitely plan on ordering your own if you're doing family style. Stopped by here for a quick lunch with the family on a weekday. It was crowded and we had to settle for a side benchtop and put our toddler in a high chair facing the ledge. The servers were really attentive and gave us wait time and options. It smelled delicious and we ordered: lamb skewers, hummus & pita, and pork chop & fries. Food came out quickly - my fav was the hummus and pita bread. Really flavorful and a huge portion. Definitely saving it for leftovers! The pork chop was too chewy and felt overdone - for a thin chop they should've taken it off the grill earlier. Didn't enjoy the fries too much either, not the consistency I like. Lamb skewers were also flavorful, but a bit on the salty side. I don't mind it but grandma did not enjoy it. This was my first time visiting and it was a wonderful experience. I had the Spanakopita Hand Pie and a lamb skewer and they were both delicious. My friend had the pork chops and fries and they were equally delicious. The lamb was tender and flavorful. The hand pie was the savory and sweet flavor - a perfect mixture. The only reason for the 3/5 was that it was expensive for how big the portions were. I got the sausage kebab and it was three pieces of sausage for $9 if I remember correctly. They had to make us move to another table mid-meal just to accommodate a bigger group together. Best believe we got....not just one but TWO orders of the Greek fries here. Par for the course as I hit up this place with my ever so fry happy friend. We swung by around 5ish on a weekday and were able to grab a table pretty quickly. The interior is super cozy and I loved being able to see some of their cooking/fire in the dining area. You order at the front and then sit down. We ended up sharing a good amount of things including the hummus, the Greek fries x2, a salad, and souvlaki (meat for my friends, veggies for me). I will say that we both love fries to death so not surprising that we got two orders; I will say they were perfectly crispy with a great flavor and seasoning. Would eat again (though you'd find it hard to dissuade me from eating most fried potatoes l o l). The hummus was delicious and I enjoyed my vegetable souvlaki as well. Prices are super fair for the quality of food you receive and the experience. Parking in the area is street parking but fairly doable.
