We had foodies in the mix -- my father-in-law and mother-in-law, who have taste buds so discerning they could probably host their own Michelin inspections. Talk about FLAVOR! This place is awesome! We started with a plethora of items and here were the highlights from the evening: * Three Dip Combo - DO IT!!! - You can't go wrong! We did the Tzatziki, Hummus & the Tyrokafteri, which is the spicy and creamy feta dip with roasted red peppers. The Tzatziki was so flavorful and delicious. Sometimes Tzatzikis can be watery, and this one was perfection! The Tyrokafteri was outstanding! Our entire table could make a meal just off of that! * Calamari - Crisp, seasoned to perfection and gave ample tentacles and body pieces, which is so nice to have an assortment. * Saganaki - This is the flaming cheese dish and it's so yummy. The table side floor show is just a bonus! When it came to Salads, we choose the Saláta Ándrou, and that is MONEY!! It has toasted breadcrumbs at the base, and they toss it with heirloom tomatoes, capers, onions, and feta, finished with a balsamic glaze. Your breath will smell of onions, but it's totally worth it. The breadcrumbs and capers are 'chef's kiss!' We split the Grilled Marinated Lamb Chops, the Slow Braised Lamb Shank, and the 'Kabab me Pligiuri', and the lamb chops with the chimichurri was definitely my favorite. The polenta that was served with the braised lamb is unique and sweet and the perfect accompaniment to the dish. If you order dessert, everyone who is of legal drinking age, is served a small glass of a Greek Liquor and it was truly delicious. Angelica was our server and she was so incredibly sweet and kind, and so wonderful to chat with! Decent, but didnt live up to the hype. The pitas are homemade but are too dense and seem underbaked. The dips were ok, not the best I've tasted. The whole snapper arrived at the table with quite the excessive smell. It tasted quite fishy as well and I was with a table of seafood fans. The filet mignon kebabs were easily the best item we ordered. The shrimp papardelle was just ok. The noodles werent great and something was just off with the flavor. The sauce was just ok and needed a kick of something. I LOVED the tomato and crispy quinoa salad. Definitely an item to return for. Lastly, the desserts were very good and a reason to go back! The food was the most incredible Greek food I've ever had. The inside was nice, with room for everyone to enjoy their food and company in private. The service was okay. I had ordered to-go and did have to wait, despite my food being ready, because the lady dropped a to-go bag and didn't let us know it was ours. The lamb chops were perfectly seasoned and juicy; the fries with the dip were great together; the lemon potatoes were a nice bright contrast; the spinach pastry was incredible; and the pita bread with the hummus was so creamy and rich. The food at Trela is absolutely fabulous! After reading about Trela, I was excited to have an opportunity to experience it myself. We walked in around 5pm without a reservation and they were able to seat us. By 5:30 every seat in the restaurant was full! For an appetizer, we shared the fried zucchini. What I loved most was the breading was super light, not greasy, and allowed the zucchini to shine. For dinner, we shared the lamb chops and moussaka. Get the lamb chops! Cooked perfectly and topped with a parsley lemon gremolata, they were absolutely delicious! I can't imagine ever not ordering them when I go back. The moussaka was also delicious, so flavorful and filling. Loved their version. The glass of Greek wine, a red blend I ordered, was the perfect accompaniment. While we were both full and satiated, I couldn't resist ordering a slice of galaktoboureko to go since it's one of my favorite desserts. They heated it up, and next time I will request it cold so I can heat it at home. When I ate it the next night, after reheating in toaster oven, it was heavenly. The flaky phyllo was not over drenched in the honey syrup as if often is the case, and since I prefer less sweet desserts, this made it even better! The filling of farina was creamy and the perfect complimentary texture to the flaky phyllo. Next time I will order two slices to go! Based on our experience, it's easy to see why this neighborhood restaurant is packed and reservations required. Came here for a small family get together recently per my suggestion since I've been meaning to try it and I wasn't disappointed. He ordered ten dishes to share, cocktails, and three desserts. Everyone really liked the uniqueness of some of the dishes, and even the kids were into it. Some of the dishes we ordered included souvlaki, hummus, calamari, lemon potatoes, prawns, eggplant, bougatsa, orange cake. All the dishes tasted fresh, bright, and high quality ingredients. Your favorites were tzatziki that came with some of the dishes, the prawns which had a hidden ouzo flavor, the eggplant that was crispy and light, the souvlaki was well marinated and tender. There wasn't a thing that we disliked. The cocktails were really delicious, flavorful and clean. All of them included a Greek liquor that really stood out in the drink. The service was fast and accommodating, as well as thoughtful. The interior had Greek decor and felt comfortable and new. Arrived at 6:55 for 7pm reservation and taken to our very tiny table immediately. So tiny we had to use the wall next to us for items especially when our appetizer came out. Waited about 8 min til we got water. Ordered an ice tea and beer. Waited another 8 min to see those. We ordered the watermelon and feta salad. Very fresh and flavorful. I would have like more balsamic on it but that's just me. I had chicken souvlaki. Was mostly ok. Uneven cooking had some pieces hard and chewy while others moist and juicy and tender. Tzatziki to dip was bland. I added salt and some lemon to give it something. Also had a side of orzo which tasted like Mac n cheese but in a good way. Service was verrrrry slow. Had to flag down waitress twice. Pretty pricey meal but not worth it flavor wise for me. Take a sweater if you get cold easy. The vents blew right on us the whole time. A great place to get a full Greek restaurant experience (not just gyros). Came here for dinner and the place is huge and contemporary, and my server was very nice. I felt overall the food was solid, but there were a few notes that could help it improve. That's why my review is more 4.5 stars but we can't do half stars here. So gave it 5 stars because I think the overall experience is great. Here's what I ate: Tzatziki as a starter, comes with pita bread. Definitely has the garlic flavor and thick and creamy. I enjoyed it. Grilled octopus with fava puree. I thought the octopus was cooked perfectly, really tender with a slight char from the grill. The only downside was the fava puree underneath was ice cold. I wished it was warm like the octopus. Gemista or stuffed pepper. This is one of my favorite homestyle Greek dish, and I even make it at home sometimes. This is one yellow bellpepper stuffed with rice. The bell pepper was perfectly cooked where it was tender but still firm. The rice filling was a bit bland, but that wasn't a problem because the table has this bottle of Greek sea salt. (Initially I thought it was a tiny bottle of yogurt because of the white color.) Ekmek or lemon cake, which I wasn't planning to order dessert because I was pretty full. But I was tempted. They have a lot of dessert options. This was nice but the cake was soaked so it felt heavier instead of a light cake, and didn't have a strong lemon flavor. It was topped with kataifi, which is the shredded phyllo dough. I also had a glass of assyrtiko with dinner. They had a nice selection of Greek wine as well as others. Our group of five walked into the inviting space on time for our reservation. We had to wait a bit for our table to be ready but they turned the table quickly once the previous party left. Our server was sweet and we had our drink order in quickly. The cocktails were good and we had plenty of water for the table. I can praise this - found by accident - Greek inspired restaurant enough. Really authentic recipes (oh yes the tzatziki is the original from my uncle) and hell you can taste it. We drove by this corner one day and it looked nice so I'll opened yelp and there it said Greek Mediterranean restaurant. I had to try. Being grown in Europe we had always Greek dishes and restaurants. My parents often took me to Greece for vacation. So yes I'll know how it should taste. And when you go to tréla (means madness or crazy in English) you will too. It's so good everything is so well and original seasoned. But it is seasoned correct! To taste and not just some oregano since it is Mediterranean food. No it actual taste like it just came from a family grill out of the backyard. An easy location just of 84 and parking isn't difficult in the neighborhood--win! We were trying to find a restaurant that could seat 12 and could accommodate a number of food intolerances. This is a great spot for both! We were able to make a reservation for 12 the night before. The only disappointment was that they were serving a brunch menu on Saturday and we were really looking forward to their regular menu (brunch menu on the weekends until 2:30). The restaurant has a great vibe and the service was phenomenal--everyone was very friendly and appropriately attentive. The brunch menu had some Greek twists on some Classics, like a spanakopita Benedict. They had some Greek-inspired cocktails. I had the Bloody Mary and it was good and spicy! I ordered the meat and cheese platter which had lots of hard cheese and ham and a cured meat, as well as some grapes and strawberries and olives. The grapes were past their prime. I enjoyed the rest. What a great experience! We decided to dine at Trela for my husband's birthday. The interior is modern but also warm and inviting. Service was excellent, friendly without being overly intrusive. I started out with a coffee martini, which was excellent and my husband had a gin, cucumber and lemon drink, I don't recall the name, but he enjoyed it. For appetizers, we had the crispy zucchini, which was unbelievable, super thin and very lightly battered, with an excellent creamy tzatziki sauce. We also got the flaming cheese, which was really cool as they light it up tableside. It happened really fast, so I wasn't able to get a picture. It's a Greek cheese, Kefalotiri, which was so incredibly delicious, very rich and chewy. For our entrees, we both chose the cabbage rolls with green beans. The cabbage rolls were stuffed with meat and a bit of rice, and then topped with a creamy sauce. They were very tasty, but a bit heavy on the dill, which isn't my favorite spice. They were very good, though. The green beans were mixed with roasted tomatoes and were extremely flavorful. After dinner, they give you a small digestive. It was tasty and a nice touch. It seems out of place in this part of town, but that's a good thing. Time to raise the bar. Long wait, but efficient. Thankfully they go non-Portland old school and take reservations. The Niko Staffili cocktail was a light, very refreshing. And the Keetro Eleexiro mocktail was super delish! The drink menu is overall very creative. Saganaki and ample size Spanakopita were par for the course. The orzo was ample, love the cheese. The Sea Bass was a big hit: flakey with crispy skin, well worth it. Of the five dessert options, four were filo-dough based, so maybe a little more variety is in order. We enjoyed the one with custard. They take a slight drop with tea and coffee as it's low grade Stash brand and regular drip. I wish they'd offer a Persian/Turkish-style coffee. Bar and hostess service was friendly during a crowded evening. * Be careful when parking right out front on Glisan! Vehicles turning right or left from 60th may not see you. If they do then they might need to stop in the crowded intersection. Prices are very fair for the portion and the overall experience. This place is a winner! read more

My dining partner and I were lucky that there was space at the bar for us since all their tables were full and they were only taking those with reservations. The decor was cozy and food smelled amazing. Bartender was very personable and told us what the most popular dishes were since it was our 1st time here. Next to us several tables ordered the a flaming cheese appetizer which created some excitement in the room. I got a nice beer and my friend enjoyed their old fashion with our food. The chicken kebab was very tender and our preference. The fish was really tasty. I really enjoyed the kale that came with it. I love veggies and they were cooked perfectly. Had a really great evening visiting Trela kitchen. Having recently opened I was excited to give them a try and obviously the reviews speak for themselves. Came in on a Friday evening, which was bustling and busy, so would recommend a reservation. Ambiance was great. It was lively and well decorated with lovely antique art as well as more modern paint colors and tile work. Energy overall was nice, with families galore and a homey feel. It was rather loud so just consider that, maybe not a first date spot. Food was a hit and more unique compared to some Mediterranean places I've been. It's really focused on Greek fair specifically. We tried the 3 dips which were all fantastic and went well with other dishes in the meal. The sausage also happened to be a standout along with the oh so fresh pita bread. The bechamel noodle dish was tasty, and a great portion, but was a little hit one note by the end of the dish. Skewers were tasty but also could have maybe had a bit more seasoning to really pop with flavor. All in all though everything was tasty and felt fresh which I appreciated and the 4 dishes were perfect size for us. Happy to see a new spot thriving in town and would certainly go back! Yay! Portland has full-menu Greek food again! Trela is an excellent Greek bistro, with tasty meze and Greek classics. Definitely order the saganaki, dips, house-made pita, giant beans, and salads. Regardless of menu section, most dishes are effectively sharing plates; order 2 per person. They have a very good selection of Greek wines, including multiple choices by the glass, as well as ouzo, tsipouro, and Mastikas. They've also done a beautiful job with the interior, it's charming and very thematic. The staff are very experienced, especially for a new restaurant, and will stay on top of your needs. Despite the amount of seating, though, I recommend reservations until the holiday season is over. read more

We made a dinner reservation for 5:30. We had a nice table along the wall. My partner ordered a holiday ale and I ordered a glass of the Semeli Feast Red Agiorgitiko. It was a healthy pour complimenting the entire food experience. We love mezzes! We chose a 3 dip combo; Hummus, Melitzanosalata, and Tramasalata. So good, I wish we tried all 6 options! The star mezze was of course the Saganaki which is a Kefalotiri cheese artfully flambéed at your tableside. Loved it! So fun. We also ordered the lamb chops, calamari, and orzo mizithra. All amazing but we could not finish as we filled up on the starters. Everything was perfect for sharing and will make for exciting leftovers. Outstanding service. Clean spaces and the servers were all super pleasant and friendly. Such good food. Had the eggplant dip. It didn't say it was cold, so I was a bit surprised. But, oh, such a fresh and bright flavor. I came on a busy Sunday night completely unaware of how packed it was going to be, but I thankfully got a seat at the bar. I got the charred pepperoncinis, hummus with pita, and chicken souvlaki. All of the flavors were phenomenal- savory, zesty, rich, not too heavy. I would go back for these things alone, but what really led me to write this review was the masterpiece that is the orange cake. It's a very moist cake that's not too aggressively citrus-y while still being very bright and refreshingly sweet (and they also offered me a fabulous dessert wine with it- so so delicious!) The guys working at the bar were so friendly and charming despite it being so busy, and it was just such a wonderful time all around. Newer spot with tasty cocktails and food worth trying. The Ouzo Garides Saganaki (prawns in ouzo tomato sauce) was delicious, while the Lahanodolmathes (stuffed cabbage) was a bit dry and tart. Two of three dips were flavorful- enjoyed the Melitzanosalata and Tramasalata, while the hummus lacked flavor. We tried 2 desserts, Galaktobouriko and Bougatsa- they both were very mild desserts, not too sweet but also not packing much of a punch in the flavor department. Service seemed to still be finding its footing- friendly but 3 different people asked the same question on multiple occasions. Outstanding food and service at the newly opened Trela. To begin, the three-dip combo is a must. We ordered the melitzanosalata (smoky eggplant), the scordalia (garlic and potato), and the taramasalata (Greek caviar). All delicious, and accompanied by the best homemade pita bread we've ever tasted. The plate of calamari was generous and heavily spiced, as were the succulent pork souvlaki skewers. We were somewhat less pleased with the paldakla (grilled lamb chops), though no real complaints. For desert we shared a bougatsa (flaky phyllo pastry stuffed with creamy custard). Clearly, the breads and pastries made by Trela's bakers are worth ordering, even going out of your way to try. We look forward to exploring more of Trela's menu. The feigned sweetness of the woman greeting customers is obviously fake. The eatery is dimly lighted. The woman said the tables are reserved and directed us to the bar. There were only two of us and we don't even drink alcohol. There were two empty tables behind us which were still empty by the time we leave, which made me wonder why she seated us to the bar. There were also some empty tables on the other area of the place. We ordered lamb and calamari. The tiny calamari were greasy. The lamb was small and hardly any meat in it. Definitely not worth the money they are charging. We won't be back, ever! I left a decent tip just because the server is attentive and friendly. read more
