    Hanging Chicken Kabob
    Dave W.

Kabob - Portland, OR Nice little Lebanese place on Hawthorne Street. nice booths, tables, lamps, and paintings on the wall. Little flower arrangements on every table. First off, they bring you a nice carafe of water which you drink out of a nice wine glass. I ordered the hummus which came with nice warm pita and was delicious. The hot pita was done just right. I also ordered the chicken kebab which comes on this interesting hanging skewer. Below the skewer is a bowl of saffron rice with tomato, cucumber and basil with a lemon slice and a garlic white sauce. Also, the skewer has in addition to the chicken, grilled onion and zucchini perfectly cooked. The owner was very friendly- he gave me some of his in-house made baklava- delicious! They do charge a 15% service charge instead of you giving a tip.

One of the best mediterranean places in Portland true to original recipes and not Americanized - the owner is a great guy and service is always friendly and fast. You can not go wrong if you are into a good delicious meal from that cuisine. Plenty of vegetarian options as well.

Excellent food and host/chef! If you like Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food but haven't been here, you're missing out. There's a great menu of amazing food and presentations.

Great customer service owner is very friendly. I ordered the falafel wrap that came with a house salad and delicious rice. The Kabob was organic chicken breast marinated in extra virgin olive oil it was super juicy with tons of flavor and crispy on the outside. literally perfectly cooked I would highly recommend trying their gem of a restaurant!!

My new favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Their grass fed lamb is so much juicier and tender than I've had elsewhere is the main reason. We got some of the classics like pita & hummus of course and lamb kebab (which is served on a cool vertical skewer tower) both of which were excellent. My favorite was the Lamb Kusharia which I hadn't seen at another Mediterranean restaurant so I tried. It was some generous juicy lamb chunks coated in a delicious nutty herby sauce on a bed of savory yellow rice and lentils w/ crispy onions and chickpeas. They also had another dish I hadn't heard of called Muthawamah which sounded very good as well I will have to try next time. Very friendly owner and they also have some homemade lemonades too that were quite tasty.

This place is awesome! Fresh, delicious food, wide variety, clean and comfortable place--I can't wait to go back! Give this family some love, as this place has amazing food!! Run, don't walk, to eat here! And I've never said that about a place before!

Unfortunately we lost our favorite buffets to Covid. We have been searching and searching.... today the search is over. The lunch buffet at Kabob is excellent.  Nice selection of food.  Fresh. The atmosphere from the art on the wall to the music was very pleasing.  The food was very very good. And then we got our drinks.  At $8.00 I was expecting a smaller glass. We got a a small caraffe!!  Phenomenal value. Highly recommend Kabob.  I'd give six stars if I could.

Reviewing the menu, there were lots of yummy things to choose from but ultimately we both could not resist the Lamb shank. I'm sad I didn't take a picture of it. It was so tender and delicious. It came with perfect Basmati rice and a side of eggplant stew that was exquisite! I've never had eggplant stew and it was luscious. I dream to about it all night long. It was quiet, comfortable, music was great; songs we all know but with native instruments and flare. We had house red wine - not a big selection of alcohol, which is fine the food is and should be the star. Our sever (Sorry my old lady brain forgot his name) but the good looking bald guy(LOL) was nice and personable. It was such a great low key dining experience that just made the day even better. I highly recommend this cute place and we will be back- there are a lot more wonderful food to try!

My first impression as we entered here was: the AC was on, and I'm not ready for AC (yet), and the inside was too elegant, and empty. We waited awhile, when a staff appeared. We picked a seat outside, where the weather was pleasant and shady. I needed badly, to use the restroom, so I went back inside, only to be told it's outside. The mural on the walls, obscured the door to the restroom. But, there was no TP, no paper towel, and the trash was full. I had to use a toilet seat cover paper, for my TP, and went back to my seat, not happy with what I just did! I told my husband, who then told the staff, because HE need to use the restroom, too. (We've been gone all morning, this is now lunch hour). The staff gave water, menu and we ordered: The Lamb Shank. I love the eggplant stew! There's also a small salad with the Basmati rice. Also Chicken Kabob Mezza Platter with Pita bread. It was not until we're done eating, and ready to get up, did I notice there was cubed cucumber in the thaziki. But, it's got a very strong vinegar flavor, but I did like the hummus and the ghanoush. (When we eat at these places, we always pick the lamb shanks, btw). I had the other half, for my dinner tonight. The server was friendly, helpful and responsive. The atmosphere, was pleasant, and the photo taken of me, hubby thought I could pass as an Iraqi woman! LOL Thanks for the bag. We picked some crabapples, from down the street, there were 4-5 large trees ready for the pickin' from the sidewalk.

We didn't have a reservation, but there's was room at the bar alongside the kitchen. That's always the best place to sit because it's like getting a show with dinner. Speaking of dinner, it was excellent. We started with a roasted eggplant dip served with a round, fluffy pita bread. So yummy. Next came falafel with tahina and green S'hug sauce, which gives it a spicy kick. The six falafel balls were light and airy, not dense and dry like lots of falafel we've had in the past. Finally, we ended with chicken shawarma, a wonderful confit chicken dish, nicely seasoned, sitting atop large pita pillow. We just folded it up and went from there. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. They suggest ordering two dishes per person, but you don't need to. Three dishes is plenty (even two) depending on what you get. We washed it down with a pilsner beer and homemade blackberry soda. The portions are generous. We'll definitely go back and sample several other dishes.

Now, most of my friends have busy schedules, so it takes quite a while to coordinate. As luck would have it, 3 of us were available this very day! We arranged to meet at 1:15ish. While waiting for my friends, I got some complimentary Turkish tea, it was quite good. Then I put in an order for the appetizer sampler plate. The order arrived just as my friends did. They actually walked to the restaurant. The appetizer sampler consisted of Ezme, Tarator, Muhammara and Eggplant salad. Three of the four items were vegan the Tarator contained yogurt. My favorite was the Muhammara. My friends enjoyed the shared appetizer. It came with pita bread, and when the basket was emptied, we were asked if we wanted more. For my entree, I ordered the vegan Tantuni wrap with oyster mushrooms. The flavor was outstanding! My friends were both loving what they ordered. A friend also got the turnip juice. Said it was an interesting flavor, was not expecting that. The ambiance was casual but inviting. The service was quick and friendly. Food was delicious! I definitely plan on coming back again!
