From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely exceptional. Ali the owner was warm, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great dining experience and every recommendation was spot on. The food was even better than the service. The chicken kabob was incredibly juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned, while the lamb kabob was flavorful, cooked to perfection, and melted in your mouth. Every bite was fresh and delicious. It's not often you find a restaurant that excels in both outstanding hospitality and amazing food, but this place absolutely does. This was one of the best customer service restaurants that we have been to in so long. We were there for a pick up order and everyone was so nice, greeted us, made sure we were taken care of by asking if we wanted any water if we needed anything at all, offered us a place to sit and then gave us some baklava to try. The pita bread was amazing! It was the softest bread and really large too. The chicken kusharia was delicious, I took some of that with the yellow rice and tzatziki sauce into the pita, perfect. Kabob - Portland, OR Nice little Lebanese place on Hawthorne Street. nice booths, tables, lamps, and paintings on the wall. Little flower arrangements on every table. First off, they bring you a nice carafe of water which you drink out of a nice wine glass. I ordered the hummus which came with nice warm pita and was delicious. The hot pita was done just right. I also ordered the chicken kebab which comes on this interesting hanging skewer. Below the skewer is a bowl of saffron rice with tomato, cucumber and basil with a lemon slice and a garlic white sauce. Also, the skewer has in addition to the chicken, grilled onion and zucchini perfectly cooked. The owner was very friendly- he gave me some of his in-house made baklava- delicious! My new favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Their grass fed lamb is so much juicier and tender than I've had elsewhere is the main reason. We got some of the classics like pita & hummus of course and lamb kebab (which is served on a cool vertical skewer tower) both of which were excellent. My favorite was the Lamb Kusharia which I hadn't seen at another Mediterranean restaurant so I tried. It was some generous juicy lamb chunks coated in a delicious nutty herby sauce on a bed of savory yellow rice and lentils w/ crispy onions and chickpeas. They also had another dish I hadn't heard of called Muthawamah which sounded very good as well I will have to try next time. How do I give Ali and his Chef and team 10 stars?? We had my husband's 40th surprise birthday dinner here with almost 30 people and Ali was SO incredibly helpful and receptive. He knew how to host that many people and the chef did a *perfect* job with the food (plated dishes!) for that many people, ready in a timely manner. They also added balloons without me asking and it was such a thoughtful gesture. The food was spectacular (truly authentic and melt in your mouth yummy), the service AMAZING leading up to the event and during. We had a family celebration at Kabob yesterday... and it was AMAZING!! Service was exceptional and the food was spectacular. My wife and I are vegan, others in the family are carnivores- and no one was disappointed. The falafel was the best I've ever had and the meat eaters said theirs was delicious. Kabob deserves a line around the block 24/7. Stopped in 10/29 in the evening with my GF. Kebob is clean with wonderful decor, run by a very nice family. We bother ordered the chicken moothawama, and a side of pita bread with hummus. The pita bread came out and was amazingly fresh. Smelling the bread was SO GOOD... with the bread alone! It was soft, warm and flavorful!I couldn't stop smelling it! The chicken kebob was nicely presented in a free standing skewer. the Chicken was both moist and flavorful, which is hard to get right! I did not love this. I wanted to. We were literally the only table here on Tues at 2. Our other fave place was closed so we gave this a try based on reviews. Love the atmosphere, but thats where my love ends. I am a fan of the Mezza plate. So that is what I ordered. The description is accurate. But for $16 to get a cup of cauliflower, 4 falafel and some sliced potatoes with no hummus, tabouli, baba ganoush....(those only come on the cold mezzo plate) was disappointing. My friend had the moothawana but the sweet sauce that came on it didnt work for either of us. We also ordered stuffed grape leaves that never arrived. Service tip included which is all good, just something to be aware of. The server was fine, but being the only table and not to see him throughout the meal? and then to forget the appetizer? We love this place. The food is delicious, both for carnivores (my honey) and vegans (me) and the people are super nice. We especially like the ambience -- classy furniture, heavy tableware and a big bottle of ice-free ice water when you sit down, plus stemware to drink it from, all things that usually say This Place is Expensive, but it isn't. Nice big flowering plant right at our booth, a long line of lovely blue and white lamps overhead - twice as many with the mirror -- AND NO TIPPING! Service charge 15% added instead, so there's neither a screen trying to guilt-trip 25 or 30% out of your pocket nor any arithmetic to do. The two things I like the best might sound trivial but they have super good nice warm pita, soft, a little bit puffy and just the tiniest bit charred along one edge, really tasty. Also the rice is wonderful, best ever for me, cooked just right and subtly dressed. Although there's no parking lot, the owner told us this evening that it's OK to park across Hawthorne in the Asylum parking lot. read more

The atmosphere from the art on the wall to the music was very pleasing.  The food was very very good. And then we got our drinks.  At $8.00 I was expecting a smaller glass. I came here for lunch, and decided on the vegan falafel mazza with potatoes. A simple plate, but seasoned nicely and the falafel were flavorful. Service was attentive and the atmosphere is great, a nice place to stop if you are on Hawthorne. Rare is it that I order takeout and the food is this phenomenal, but somehow the service was also 1000/10 in our 5 minutes inside picking up our food. An employee came from picking fresh figs, and offered some to us which was such a delicious treat. The inside is also so very very beautiful. We ordered the hummus, baba, grape leaves , tabuli, chicken moothawama, and lamb kusharia. Their grape leaves had us salvating on the drive home. Super Duper tasty I loved the hot Mazza plate. The food is all reasonably priced and great portions. They include a 15% service charge as stated on the menu but they don't accept tips. Not even a line on the check so I appreciate that as I sometimes feel weird about places that force the tip. They had different cuisines like Egyptian which was neat to try. Wanted to really love this place. Nice menu, friendly owner. The meal had hits and misses. I had the chicken and all but one piece was very dry and the one piece was ok but not moist. My husband had the lamb and it was more tender with a few dry/tough pieces. So it didn't hit the mark for us. Another person mentioned carrots and they are not typical and they were huge so did come across as a filler. It was a Saturday night and not many people there. It did seem like their son was sitting in a booth watching something on a phone with no earbuds so I was glad not to be eating there. read more

The people are really sweet, the place is cozy, clean and inviting. They offer outdoor seating with some genius natural privacy bushes between tables so you don't feel like you can't escape the the persons breath at the next table. This was our first time at Kabob and they did not disappoint. We were the only people in the restaurant until just before we finished our meal (pandemic effect) but they have a robust take out game going on. They were continuously busy. Don't miss the in-person experience! I feel like we were interacting with the owners - cooking, explaining the menu in exquisite detail, taking orders, and serving the meals. I asked about the menu and then enjoyed a discussion about each item, sometimes he shared the history of the dish. He made sure we understood the menu and choices available. He was an enjoyable fellow human. Not only are the owners/??? wonderful and attentive, but the food was delicious, the presentation was impressive, and it didn't break the bank. We had: Cocktail: "Take me to the Promised Land" $9.95 Sapphire gin and an aged rose liquor. A Middle Eastern Martini? It came in a large glass (photo below) and was unique and delicious. Our discussions surrounding this drink were entertaining. It was definitely worth the price. RECOMMEND Pomegranate soda: fresh POM juice and soda water, another giant glass. RECOMMEND. $2.95 Appetizer: Vine leaf roll (dolmah) $5.95 grape leaves stuffed with rice, fresh herbs. This also came with some chopped/minced veggies and a tahini dressing, as well as a salad with their house made vinaigrette. They had four vegan selections that were explained to us. I loved hearing about how some of these recipes originated. The balance of the menu was simple: choose chicken, shrimp, salmon, or lamb as a bowl, a kabob, or a Moothawama (served over bed of freshly fried potatoes). For most choices, the shrimp/salmon choice was $2 more than chicken/lamb. Meal 1 - Salmon moothawama. A Moothawama includes fresh garlic, fresh basil, lemon juice and olive oil on a bed of pan fried potato. It came with a beautiful salad and cooked carrots and crispy onions. You can get with shrimp, chicken, salmon, or lamb. Visually appealing and delicious. RECOMMEND 18.95 (most expensive aselection on the menu.) Meal 2 - Shrimp kabob. The kabob is served impressively. Photo below. It was complimented by saffron rice and and small chopped salad with herbs. We could not stop raving about the presentation or taste of this item. It was beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed. RECOMMEND $15.95 Dessert: Baklava. Order it, you won't regret it. RECOMMEND $3.50 Prices was definitely fair considering the quality of the meals. We enjoyed the giant screens showcasing belly dancers; that was a very tasteful and enjoyable. It was a 5 star night for us! We will return. This is a dinner only restaurant, daily 4-9pm. We were really intrigued last year walking by this restaurant but hadn't had a chance to go back. My husband was so hungry so we ordered, took some pictures, enjoyed an appetizer of grape leaves then we were on our way. The baklava and majadra were excellent! We came back later to buy some more for friends. Our order was made fresh but it was very quick. Thanks to the owner for his gracious hospitality.
