We had an absolutely fabulous meal at this cozy Italian bistro-what a gem. The carefully constructed menu offers lots of inventive twists on traditional Italian cuisine like the amazingly delicious fresh burrata with fresh seasonal berries and a strawberry coulis! Superb! I also loved the fresh baked focaccia with its fluffy texture and crackling crust and stuffed with savory rosemary and soft roasted garlic (so good I ended up getting a second order of it). The short rib arancini were crispy with a nice sauce and are ordered by the each. I forgot to mention that the menu is designed for sharing so plan on 2-3 dishes per person. The spicy pork pasta had fun thin ribbons of noodles with a curly edge (like skinny lasagne noodles) and wasn't too spicy. My wife really like the seasonal sweet corn ravioli with its beautiful lite preparation. All this food was more than enough and very reasonably priced. The wine list is small but assembled with a careful eye and the by the glass options were of high quality. Service was friendly and the meal moved along at a relaxed pace. Water glasses were filled and team service ensured prompt delivery of food and clearing of dishes. The dining room is small with a wonderful hand-painted tile floor. Definitely recommended but be sure to make a reservation. They were full by 7 on a Thursday when we visited.
We chose Dolly Olive for our anniversary dinner. We decided to splurge on the Chef's Tasting Menu, vegetarian version. It was a LOT of wonderful food. We walked away stuffed! So it was a good value for a special occasion. I'll walk you through what we ate: First came their signature green olives with a little bowl for the pits. They had some little pickled red onions in with them. Soooo good! Then focaccia. It was a big hunk that we tore pieces off of and dipped in garlic olive oil. Those were standard with every meal. Now came the fun. The thing I love about tasting menus is you never know what's coming next! It's so much fun to be surprised! They started us off with a seasonal burrata with local strawberries, hazelnuts, fresh basil and a strawberry gastrique. Swoon-worthy! Next we were served the house version of Caesar salad. It came with a wedge of lemon to squeeze over the top. Yum! Next was the thinnest roasted asparagus I've ever eaten. I don't normally like asparagus but I really enjoyed this. It rested on a bed of some sort of puree (I forgot what they said it was). Next was corn ravioli. Sadly it was the only pasta included in this meal. I had been hoping to have another pasta dish or two. The ravioli was special though and not your normal filling, so that was nice. Then came roasted cauliflower on a bed of green goddess sauce. Tasty but I was feeling very healthy by then with all the veggies! (Couldn't they have replaced that with pasta? Sorry, I'm whining here). Our last savory dish was eggplant parm. It came with more focaccia. Again, I'd have loved pasta instead. Isn't that what one goes to an Italian restaurant for? Finally there were delicious, short, buttery Italian wedding cookies. But then our waiter surprised us with cannoli, for our anniversary! It sat atop Maryhill peach compote. Excellent! The service was impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable, personable and very attentive. We were also served by some other staff who did a great job as well. Good thing we've been married 42 years. If this was a first date where you want to get to know each other, it would be hard because it's pretty loud and the tables are crammed closely together. They really need a bigger space. We are looking forward to bringing friends and family here in the future.
Dolly Olive is serving a proper Portland brunch. I was most impressed by the balance of flavors with a subtle heat that is rich in flavor. There is an open kitchen where I watched the staff carefully curating dishes. This is a higher end brunch offering where the food served supports the price on the menu. I don't mind paying a little more for great food but I'm always turned off by being charged for a side of hot sauce. Dolly Olive holds its own as part of the Sesame Collective.
The food is absolutely delicious, but small tapas portions served family style so order double if you know you'll enjoy the item. Service was very attentive and friendly and offered suggestions based on palate preferences. The ambiance is small and intimate, dim lighting. I'd return with my spouse.

I would recommend making a reservation, we didnt and sat at the bar which is also a good option. The ambiance was dark, and very candle lit. Nothing super special aesthetically, but overall enjoyable vibes and everyone is very friendly. Our server recommended ordering multiple things on the menu (like 4 or 5) as things are ment to be shared. I definitely recommend the focaccia as a starter and the burrata.
This was my only other scheduled meal. I wanted to treat my friends to a meal on our friend's wedding day. Figured it would be the best way to kick off our day. Luckily, I was able to secure a reservation. The walk over was under 10 minutes for both of us. It gave me just the perfect amount of time to kill a j. I was ready to drink all the things. Sure enough, my hydration station had 3 options. Limoncello spritz for the fun category, water for hydration and Americano soda for the caffeine. The spritz was perfection. We started off with an order of the arancini. As we were unsure if we would like it, we got one then got another one as soon as we got our first bite. That was followed by the donuts. We were all in agreement that some type of dipping sauce would be a nice touch. My suggestion is dulce de leche. We then went to town on the broccoli &! Italian sausage, hash and tagliatelle. When I tell you - I was in food heaven. That tagliatelle was IT. My friends were kind enough to let me finish the rest. I gave way to the other two. Despite being ridiculous full, we still managed to make room for dessert. We got the cookie and lemon pound cake. Bro that pound cake can get it. The mascarpone whip on top made me tingle on the inside after I got a taste. My gawd I wanted to eat the whole thing. The biggest compliment came at the end of the night when my friend told me I chose the perfect spot and picked all the right dishes. Big thanks to Mike for taking such great care of us. He had the best response to my answer when he asked if we had allergy restrictions. I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in town.
Celebrated my birthday at Dolly Olive and it was amazing!!! She treated us to some complimentary bubbles. We all ordered the tasting menu which includes some popular favorites from the menu and some off chef inspired items! Such great flavor, bold combinations and so pretty on a plate. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. The hamachi and Italian wedding cookies hands down 10 outta 10, perfection! Loved the pistachio ravioli, asparagus and cannoli. The staff was impressive Crizela (sp) always smiling and positive. It is now my husband's favorite restaurant!

Stopped by on a whim while visiting Portland and loved my delicious brunch. Service was absolutely top notch - I was torn between literally five things and the waiter really helped me narrow things down. Also LOVED their greek donuts!
Galentine's at The Dolly Olive was such a fun and delicious experience! We decided to treat ourselves and go with the Chef's Choice -- an 8-course meal that everyone at the table opts into, priced at $75 per person -- and it was absolutely worth it. Each course was beautifully prepared and completely delicious. The dishes came out at a relatively quick pace -- at times even faster than we could keep up with -- but we weren't complaining because every plate was something new and exciting to try. We sat in the bar area, which felt cozy and quaint, making it the perfect setting for catching up, laughing, and enjoying great food together. Overall, such a great experience for a girls' night out. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back!
Fiance and I absolutely love this place and it's our favorite date night spot. The food is amazing and the servers are always so friendly and polite. When we order, we get a starter, 2 entre, and side - that's enough for two. Definitely recommend the Dolly focaccia bread starter and the meatball side.
Popped in for a quick happy hour on my downtown walk and it was a solid choice. Service: 4/5, this was right after their brunch rush so they were still transitioning but I felt my service was efficient, warm and friendly Food: solid as well Caesar salad: 3/5, it was a little wet for my liking and had red onions in it which was a first for me. I love onions so I didn't mind it but I wasn't expecting it Meatballs: 3/5, solid flavor but they were on the smaller size.. I wish the sauce had a bit more seasoning to it Focaccia bread: 4/5, another solid choice, you can tell it was baked fresh and with quality ingredients Overall, I would recommend (this is my second time here but first time doing a review). Brunch: They are not your average brunch spot so if you walk in with no standard brunch expectations, you'll be delighted by their unique menu. No whipped cream but they have vanilla mascarpone whip or ice cream. No Bailey's but they have a nice espresso martini. No hollandaise sauce but just pivot and try something new (get Beans on Toast: it's not what you think; it's fresh, flavorful, and creamy toppings on exceptional bread is so good). I also liked the breakfast sandwich (an herbed biscuit is yum yum) and their fried potatoes. They may not have mayo, but they sure have a mean garlic aioli for those spuds. read more
We had a change in plans, and so we stopped in hoping to grab seats at the bar, but they had a table available for us! The restaurant was packed, so that was a happy surprise. The hostess and server who greeted us were very friendly and welcoming. We liked the vibe - upscale but still causal enough for us to pop in, views of the kitchen action, moody and dark decor. Our server was prompt and friendly. I enjoyed my NA Hugo spritz - they had a good selection of zero proof/NA options, so we really appreciated that. The staff kept our water filled, which is always a plus. The biggest issue we had was the pacing of the meal. Typically when we order small plates and order everything at once, we have had our dishes paced where we can enjoy 1-2 things and then move on to the next round as it arrives. In this case, we had one plate to eat from, and every dish came out one after another, so on our 2-top table, we barely had room to function. By the time we had enough of our salad and focaccia so we could stack the serving dishes to make space, our pasta dish was cold. We had ordered the Dolly Focaccia (stuffed with whole confit garlic cloves (they slid out when you picked up a piece so it was a little messy), the Dolly Caesar, the Tricolor Cauliflower, and the Mafaldine with the spicy pork ragu. The Caesar was very heavily dressed, so that made for a soggy salad. The focaccia seemed to be a touch underbaked - the inside was a little gummy. The mafaldine was good - just hard to maneuver for serving with the packed table since it was all one giant noodle, more or less. I would have loved a fresh plate at some point with all of the saucy items. The cauliflower was our favorite dish. We might have stayed for dessert, but the finagling of all of our dishes made us feel kind of rushed and feeling like we should call it. All that said, we were able to get a table without a reservation, the staff were all very friendly, and we were in and out in about an hour, so it met our needs. I am hoping we just had an off-night experience, but this wasn't our favorite meal while visiting Portland. 3.5 stars read more
First night in Portland earlier this summer, wanted to find a spot near Powell's Books (see other review). Dolly Olive is in a walkable area of downtown Portland - easy to get to from the metro line and a few blocks from Powell's. We got a great selection of items - Dolly Caesar, grilled asparagus, pork chop, and drinks. It all tasted great. Service was attentive. It was busy and clearly popular. I had no idea that Dolly Olive offered brunch! I discovered this after visiting Sammy's flowers on Sunday in the early afternoon. My husband and I wanted to grab something to eat nearby so we opened Yelp and discovered that Dolly Olive was open. Because we had such a great dinner experience here, we decided that we must try their brunch! We walked in and were able to get seated no problem. But it is a small place and does tend to fill up quickly. The staff were welcoming and got us seated right away. We ordered the Greek donuts and fries to start and then we both ordered the breakfast sandwiches, one with bacon and one with Italian sausage. The herbed fries and sandwiches with herbed biscuits were simply divine. Simple items but elevated with bold and fresh flavors. Loved it. read more

Really enjoyed this place. The dirty martinis were incredible, and the food -- served family style for sharing -- was creative, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. Honestly, we almost ordered too much because everything sounded so good. This place definitely has a cool vibe... maybe even a little too cool for me. The friends who invited me are probably more stylish than I am, but either way I felt comfortable and had a great time. The food came out at a really nice pace, the setting was clean and comfortable, and the whole experience just worked. Definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're looking for a fun night out with great drinks and memorable food. read more

Nice little spot to grab some food and drinks! Ordered some local IPAs and of course did not disappoint. Ordered one of the best salads I've ever had here. I'm pretty sure it was a ceaser salad, It was peppery salted and had a lemony flavor to it overall it was the best I've ever had. I loved the setting inside almost modern but rustic I would definitely check them out. read more

Great food and great service! Loved the cozy feel and attentive staff. Everything we ate and drank was excellent. Would have come back again to try more the next day if I was still in town. We arrived as a party of 3 on a Saturday at 12:30. We made a reservation beforehand just in case, but there were plenty of open tables. There are good vegetarian options, including beans on toast, caesar salad, and baked eggs in purgatory. Our server was friendly and attentive. read more

I had dinner at The Dolly Olive while visiting the city for business, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. The food, the vibe, and the service were all completely on point. The focaccia is an absolute must...warm, flavorful, and unforgettable. I ordered the ribeye, and it was cooked beautifully and full of flavor. Every detail felt intentional, from the menu to the atmosphere. This is definitely a place I'll be returning to, either before I leave the city or the next time I'm back. Highly recommend. Finally made my way to Dolly Olive... it didn't disappoint. Whether you're there solo or there on a date or with a group, it is great for all occasions. They have two sides. Dolly Olive (main restaurant) and Bar Dolly (smaller cute bar area with a few booths for eating). I sat at the bar in Dolly Olive and had an amazing experience. Hayden and Kelsey took great care of me. They have great energy and work really well together. They were super kind, engaging and fun to talk to during dinner - their cocktails were also delicious. I had the peperoncino martini and the espresso martini - amazing!! For dinner I had one of their meat specials and their gnocchi. Beautiful presentation and it tasted as delicious as it looked! Can't wait to come back and try more. Highly recommend for a good meal and a nice night out in Portland. read more

We had such a great experience at Dolly Olive! The drinks were delicious and the meal started off perfectly with their amazing focaccia bread -- it was absolutely incredible. The clam dish ended up being my favorite of the night -- so flavorful and perfectly prepared. We also had the Tagliatelle pasta and it was fabulous. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully done and full of flavor. On top of the great food, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole evening really enjoyable. My favorite place in downtown Portland, a hidden gem with great Mediterranean food and good list of drinks including mocktails. Very nice and responsive team, they were kind enough to find some space for us in the bar in a busy Saturday that all tables were taken. And another day we went and tried all starters, one better than the other! Came here on a Monday evening. I had a reservation for 4:45 at the bar but came in at opening and they were able to sit us at a table. The resturant is small, not too many seatting options and a small bar area. Inside is very cute and well decorated. The menu is family style, smaller portions and meant to share. Server recommended 2-3 dishes per person. All the food was delicious and made well. They asked if we had any shows that evening to make sure they get us out on time! Some of the best food in the city! Started out thinking we were in a place that was a little snootier than we prefer, but then we got our waiter and he was awesome. Laid back vibe and very attentive. It's family style serving so we split everything. The focaccia was moist and airy, and the heirloom Carrots were one of the best veggies we've ever had in a restaurant.
