One of the best restaurant meals I've had in a long time! The spicy pork ragu was out of this world!

We chose Dolly Olive for our anniversary dinner. We decided to splurge on the Chef's Tasting Menu, vegetarian version. It was a LOT of wonderful food. We walked away stuffed! So it was a good value for a special occasion. I'll walk you through what we ate: First came their signature green olives with a little bowl for the pits. They had some little pickled red onions in with them. Soooo good! Then focaccia. It was a big hunk that we tore pieces off of and dipped in garlic olive oil. Those were standard with every meal. Now came the fun. The thing I love about tasting menus is you never know what's coming next! It's so much fun to be surprised! They started us off with a seasonal burrata with local strawberries, hazelnuts, fresh basil and a strawberry gastrique. Swoon-worthy! Next we were served the house version of Caesar salad. It came with a wedge of lemon to squeeze over the top. Yum! Next was the thinnest roasted asparagus I've ever eaten. I don't normally like asparagus but I really enjoyed this. It rested on a bed of some sort of puree (I forgot what they said it was). Next was corn ravioli. Sadly it was the only pasta included in this meal. I had been hoping to have another pasta dish or two. The ravioli was special though and not your normal filling, so that was nice. Then came roasted cauliflower on a bed of green goddess sauce. Tasty but I was feeling very healthy by then with all the veggies! (Couldn't they have replaced that with pasta? Sorry, I'm whining here). Our last savory dish was eggplant parm. It came with more focaccia. Again, I'd have loved pasta instead. Isn't that what one goes to an Italian restaurant for? Finally there were delicious, short, buttery Italian wedding cookies. But then our waiter surprised us with cannoli, for our anniversary! It sat atop Maryhill peach compote. Excellent! The service was impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable, personable and very attentive. We were also served by some other staff who did a great job as well. Good thing we've been married 42 years. If this was a first date where you want to get to know each other, it would be hard because it's pretty loud and the tables are crammed closely together. They really need a bigger space. We are looking forward to bringing friends and family here in the future. read more

We had an absolutely fabulous meal at this cozy Italian bistro-what a gem. The carefully constructed menu offers lots of inventive twists on traditional Italian cuisine like the amazingly delicious fresh burrata with fresh seasonal berries and a strawberry coulis! Superb! I also loved the fresh baked focaccia with its fluffy texture and crackling crust and stuffed with savory rosemary and soft roasted garlic (so good I ended up getting a second order of it). The short rib arancini were crispy with a nice sauce and are ordered by the each. I forgot to mention that the menu is designed for sharing so plan on 2-3 dishes per person. The spicy pork pasta had fun thin ribbons of noodles with a curly edge (like skinny lasagne noodles) and wasn't too spicy. My wife really like the seasonal sweet corn ravioli with its beautiful lite preparation. All this food was more than enough and very reasonably priced. The wine list is small but assembled with a careful eye and the by the glass options were of high quality. Service was friendly and the meal moved along at a relaxed pace. Water glasses were filled and team service ensured prompt delivery of food and clearing of dishes. The dining room is small with a wonderful hand-painted tile floor. Definitely recommended but be sure to make a reservation. They were full by 7 on a Thursday when we visited. read more

Dolly Olive has been a favourite of ours since we lived in the Pearl, and now that we're out in the suburbs, it's still one of the places we make a point of going back to regularly. Tucked into the corner of SW 12th and Alder in the West End, the space is warm and comfortable with wood accents, soft leather banquettes, and just the right amount of energy. The Dolly Focaccia with roasted garlic and olive oil, the Roasted Carrot & Farro Salad and the Grilled Heirloom Carrots are all simple and delicious. On the pasta side, the Tagliatelle al Burro is perfect, and the Black Kale Pesto Mafaldine with roasted mushroom and the Braised Short Rib Arancini with pecorino aioli and honey are equally good choices if you're after something a little more complex. The folks who work here are knowledgeable and attentive, never intrusive. Even with the drive in now, it's worth it every time. Highly recommend, whether it's a special occasion or just a reason to head back downtown. read more

Dolly Olive is serving a proper Portland brunch. I was most impressed by the balance of flavors with a subtle heat that is rich in flavor. There is an open kitchen where I watched the staff carefully curating dishes. This is a higher end brunch offering where the food served supports the price on the menu. I don't mind paying a little more for great food but I'm always turned off by being charged for a side of hot sauce. Dolly Olive holds its own as part of the Sesame Collective. read more

Celebrated my birthday at Dolly Olive and it was amazing!!! She treated us to some complimentary bubbles. We all ordered the tasting menu which includes some popular favorites from the menu and some off chef inspired items! Such great flavor, bold combinations and so pretty on a plate. This was my only other scheduled meal. I wanted to treat my friends to a meal on our friend's wedding day. Figured it would be the best way to kick off our day. Luckily, I was able to secure a reservation. The walk over was under 10 minutes for both of us. It gave me just the perfect amount of time to kill a j. I was ready to drink all the things. Sure enough, my hydration station had 3 options. Limoncello spritz for the fun category, water for hydration and Americano soda for the caffeine. The spritz was perfection. We started off with an order of the arancini. As we were unsure if we would like it, we got one then got another one as soon as we got our first bite. That was followed by the donuts. We were all in agreement that some type of dipping sauce would be a nice touch. My suggestion is dulce de leche. We then went to town on the broccoli &! Italian sausage, hash and tagliatelle. When I tell you - I was in food heaven. That tagliatelle was IT. My friends were kind enough to let me finish the rest. I gave way to the other two. Despite being ridiculous full, we still managed to make room for dessert. We got the cookie and lemon pound cake. Bro that pound cake can get it. The mascarpone whip on top made me tingle on the inside after I got a taste. My gawd I wanted to eat the whole thing. The biggest compliment came at the end of the night when my friend told me I chose the perfect spot and picked all the right dishes. Big thanks to Mike for taking such great care of us. Galentine's at The Dolly Olive was such a fun and delicious experience! We decided to treat ourselves and go with the Chef's Choice -- an 8-course meal that everyone at the table opts into, priced at $75 per person -- and it was absolutely worth it. Each course was beautifully prepared and completely delicious. The dishes came out at a relatively quick pace -- at times even faster than we could keep up with -- but we weren't complaining because every plate was something new and exciting to try. We sat in the bar area, which felt cozy and quaint, making it the perfect setting for catching up, laughing, and enjoying great food together. Overall, such a great experience for a girls' night out. Popped in for a quick happy hour on my downtown walk and it was a solid choice. Service: 4/5, this was right after their brunch rush so they were still transitioning but I felt my service was efficient, warm and friendly Food: solid as well Caesar salad: 3/5, it was a little wet for my liking and had red onions in it which was a first for me. I love onions so I didn't mind it but I wasn't expecting it Meatballs: 3/5, solid flavor but they were on the smaller size.. Nice little spot to grab some food and drinks! Ordered some local IPAs and of course did not disappoint. Ordered one of the best salads I've ever had here. I'm pretty sure it was a ceaser salad, It was peppery salted and had a lemony flavor to it overall it was the best I've ever had. I had no idea that Dolly Olive offered brunch! I discovered this after visiting Sammy's flowers on Sunday in the early afternoon. My husband and I wanted to grab something to eat nearby so we opened Yelp and discovered that Dolly Olive was open. Because we had such a great dinner experience here, we decided that we must try their brunch! We walked in and were able to get seated no problem. But it is a small place and does tend to fill up quickly. The staff were welcoming and got us seated right away. We ordered the Greek donuts and fries to start and then we both ordered the breakfast sandwiches, one with bacon and one with Italian sausage. Finally made my way to Dolly Olive... it didn't disappoint. Whether you're there solo or there on a date or with a group, it is great for all occasions. They have two sides. Dolly Olive (main restaurant) and Bar Dolly (smaller cute bar area with a few booths for eating). I sat at the bar in Dolly Olive and had an amazing experience. Hayden and Kelsey took great care of me. They have great energy and work really well together. They were super kind, engaging and fun to talk to during dinner - their cocktails were also delicious. I had the peperoncino martini and the espresso martini - amazing!! For dinner I had one of their meat specials and their gnocchi. Beautiful presentation and it tasted as delicious as it looked! My favorite place in downtown Portland, a hidden gem with great Mediterranean food and good list of drinks including mocktails. The resturant is small, not too many seatting options and a small bar area. Inside is very cute and well decorated. The menu is family style, smaller portions and meant to share. WOW -- what a lovely restaurant. We'd flown in from Silicon Valley as my mom who lives in Portland was at the end of life. We walked over from The Benson for dinner, my husband and I, after a long day at the hospital. The manager found a great table for us in the bar which worked perfectly as we needed to store my husband's walker and a bit of extra room. From the grilled cabbage to the corn ravioli to the pasta with ragout, the food was delicious. And the desserts ...! They were playing nice music and the space itself is charming. My husband had an interesting cocktail with rye and black pepper and I had a glass of wine. We had two waiters as they transitioned toward other tasks at the end and both were so friendly, sharing details about the food and personal anecdotes that were heartwarming. A wonderful place where flavor is bound to impress you. Usually great service where they are actually willing to go into detail on the dishes. I've never had anything bad here. But will caution that it's on the pricier side for smaller portions. They say you can share dishes but some of them are much too small for that. The gnocchi was definitely overpriced for a few bites. I was shocked they'd serve it in a tiny plate. BUT the baked eggs and donuts made up for it in flavor and presentation. A rare brunch experience since I tend to go for dinner. Second caution that some drinks have added fees that they don't advertise on the menu (ie. we ordered a spritz that comes with champagne but they wanted $3 extra per drink when it was not explicitly stated on the menu). Hopefully they fixed that since our last visit. All that said, 4/5 stars. Great with room for improvement. read more

I came in during the summer of 2024. I was a walk-in and the host was really nice and allowed me to take a table as long as I was able to finish within 45 minutes. The interior was really moody and great for a date night! The service was exceptional and my server was really amazing in guiding me through popular items on the menu. We recently tried Dolly Olive for a pre-concert dinner, and it was such a beautiful experience from start to finish. The space has a warm, welcoming energy, just the kind of place where you could linger over a glass of wine and good conversation. We started with the grilled heirloom carrots, which were perfectly tender with a smoky char, balanced by crunchy hazelnuts and a fragrant tarragon-bernaise sauce. The eggplant parmesan was the true standout--crispy on the outside, soft and melty inside, with a deeply flavorful tomato sauce. I've had a lot of versions around Portland, and this was hands-down the best. For dessert, we shared the iced Bundt cake--a beautiful mix of strawberry rhubarb jam, pine nut brittle, and meyer lemon ice cream. It was a delicious combination of flavors. Ordered two things for delivery. One was the tagliatelle which is according to their website the second most liked item they have. It was horrible. Like inedible horrible. There was so much overwhelming butter that basically the dish was butter with pasta, not pasta with butter. Yuck. As for the eggplant parmesan. It looked okay. But it was super salty and seemed overwhelmingly rich. Wouldn't recommend that either. Took a couple pictures to try and show how thick the congealed butter is on the plate but I don't think it fully comes across read more
