Amuse-bouche- salmon crudo on a homemade rice cracker
    Taylor B.

We celebrated a birthday dinner at Coquine this evening and are already looking forward to returning during another season. We had reservations at the bar but it seems we could very well have made table reservations as the restaurant was not full. We opted for the $135 5-course prix fixe option, which ended up being a 7-course option as we were also served 2 pieces of amuse-bouche crudo bites and treats from their cookie tray after finishing the menu dessert. They very kindly wrapped our treats to-go as we also opted to share an affogato (so I suppose that makes it 8-courses!). Everything was cooked and plated perfectly. Presentation and service were both immaculate. We enjoyed the recommendations for non-alcoholic drinks as well. Over the course of our dinner we couldn't stop commenting on how well each plate incorporated differences in texture, flavor and temperature to create an absolutely titillating experience. Many of the dishes were different from what we might typically steer toward but all were fantastic. There is true creativity and expertise behind each dish which had us excited for the next. My husband most enjoyed the red kuri squash and tomatillo soup most while I was most impressed by the bee pollen pavlova.

We came into our reservation unsure whether we'd do a la carte or try the tasting menu. Ultimately decided to order a la carte since the tasting menu items (largely also available a la carte) didn't interest us as much. (I appreciate they tell you what you're in for! We ordered: - porcini carpaccio -- a nice salad, loved the toasted pecans and cheese in here. It was nice of the kitchen to split it into two portions for us. - bread and butter -- nothing special here honestly - my partner had a roast duck dish -- it was quite tasty, I think maybe the potatoes were the best part - morel gnocchi -- very good but I think the sauce overpowered the flavor of the morels, I could really only taste one in my last bite. I expect gnocchi to have a little more bite in the texture -- these kind of disintegrated in an odd way, maybe I missed something about their composition or something in the menu description. - smoked almond chocolate chip cookie -- honestly I expected to be blown away by this but it was a pretty normal "good" choco chip cookie. On the crumblier side for my taste. Service and ambiance in here are excellent, but personally I don't think the prices (especially if we'd gone with the pre fixe menu) would have been justified based on what we ate. We had a nice time, though!

This is the kind of restaurant you go for very special occasions, every dish is perfection and you can tell made with love by chefs with impeccable skills in the culinary arts. (I heard they are up for a James Beard award). They have an always changing Prix Fixe menu or a regular menu to select from. Take someone special and have the most delicious dining experience you won't soon forget

Cute little restaurant a bit of a trek outside the centre of Portland, but well worth the uber journey. The duck main was excellent and melted in our mouths. If ever back in Portland, we will be sure to visit here again.

Lovely coffee shop! Pastries are tasty although a bit dry. Coffee is very good. Sells some high end goods like fruit, cheese, flowers and artisanal products. Service is fine but not friendly. Convenient to Mount Tabor and sweet neighborhood gathering place with a few high tables.

We did the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Surprisingly, wine pairing included an ale. The rest of the wines had great back-stories, like one which uses grapes that were almost extinct. The 5 course meal was more like 8, since they added 2 pre-apps and an extra sweet at the end. Food quality was very good. My fav was the cheese dish which was so much more since it was married with apple, celery, cocoa nibs and fresh parsley. Amazing flavors and textures. Also loved the corn soup as the chanterelle, leek ash and puffed rice adding immense flavors and textures. Buckwheat cake was awesome...with the sweet crunchiness, figs, a caramel sauce and creme. Cute & cozy interior. Great lighting indoors and out. Great, friendly service. No biggie that they automatically add the gratuity (they announce it with the bill). Lovely meal!

What a great experience. This is a cozy restaurant and the staff were friendly and attentive. We chose to do the chefs tasting menu so we could taste a little of many things. It was wonderful to not have to make any decisions and just let them bring out small delicious dishes. Everything was amazing and I highly suggest this place.

We went to coquine's market to order a la carte and eat at which probably took away from a more legit dining experience. The food was pretty tasty but was shocked at the pricing which was comparable to SF food pricing. We got some bread and butter to start and was ok. The salad we got was really refreshing and dynamic as was the crawfish rice. Really unimpressed by the chicken--not super flavorful or juicy but at least it was a good texture. The fries that came with the chicken were quite soggy from being doused in sauce. Would not recommend. Overall, a decent hidden food spot in a suburban neighborhood with beautiful skyline views but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back if I'm visiting again.

Limited 6 week pop up held in the Coquine dining space. Make a reservation through Tock with a $20 per person fee which will be applied toward your check. They also take walk ins! We came in on the first night and I've never been to Coquine so I was delighted to learn there was a small parking lot available! We went ahead and ordered a bottle of the Renzo Castella 2019, a Nebbiolo wine. It was fantastic and light, pairing perfect with our food. Pastas! The Tajarin pasta was my favorite. It features clams, dulse seaweed, carraway, horseradish, and celery. The Paparrdelle was also good, lovely texture and not heavy. We almost didn't order dessert. How sad it would have been if we never met this Strawberry Tart! Perfect finish to the experience.

Do they still serve brunch? Don't see anything about it on their website :/

Is proof of vaccination currently required?

Yes and with identification as well.

    Do you offer vegan options?

    Not that I saw, sadly

Do they serve lunch outside during Covid?

    Yes

I know it says not good for kids. Has anyone actually brought their kids for brunch and sat outside on the patio?

No I haven't. It's not a place for kids. It's a great place for adults. If you can afford this restaurant, you can afford a babysitter.

Breakfast is serviced from 8-11 am.

On Sat and Sun breakfast is served all day!

We had an out of town guest and we did not want to fuss with cooking at home nor sitting in a stuffy noisy (or super quiet) eatery! Sitting out side before sunset, was the perfect setting on our Monday night. Our waitress was super interactive and very genuine with her assessments of the dining & alcoholic beverage choices. For adult drinks we had an excellent Next Level IPA brewed & branded for Montelupo, Rose special and glass of House Red wine. I was starving so we ordered the LARGE Radicchio salad and it was Big & filling. A side of fresh Broccolini complimented our individual entrees. My hearty Italian dish was the Ricotta Cavatelli. I even had enough for lunch the next day! My two lovely lady dinner mates had meals of Mafaldine pasta and Spinach Fettuccine (with Grana Padano cheese added). We gladly finished our comfortable dining experience with a shared and inhaled Tiramisu dessert. I've been a customer at both the Montelupo & Focacceria in Sellwood spots for quite some time now…read more  I came into Montelupo recently with my wife to place a takeaway order. The woman with dark brunette hair at the register (who processed the transaction below) was extraordinarily rude & impatient with us. Candidly, I've never been treated so poorly by someone taking my money before.  We were at the register for a mere 90 seconds, and it was nowhere near as busy as it has been in prior times that we've patroned the establishment. We also shared with this woman that we'd only order 4 dishes to go - and by the time we were ordering the final dish, she literally asked us to step out of line & come back later to order once we'd figured things out. I've never had a cashier ask that before. We proceeded to put in our final order and complete the transaction. I made a conscious decision not to include a tip due to the way she was treating us, and when she saw that I hadn't included the tip she gave me a dirty look, turned around and said nothing to us. Not even a "thank you" or "your order will be ready in X minutes". I had to check myself with my wife to see if I was misinterpreting the circumstances, and she responded "no, that was horrible service." When I came back 20 minutes later, this same woman was at the counter and refused to acknowledge me. I was standing 5 feet away, and there was not a single other customer in the market area. She just stood there looking elsewhere & avoiding eye contact. I finally saw the bartender come over and ask me if the order was mine - he picked up my order that had been sitting there and handed it to me.  I've never had an experience like this at Montelupo nor the Focacceria before. To be honest, I've never had an experience like that anywhere. It's hard for me as a paying customer to feel welcome in an establishment where the mentality of the cashier is adversarial toward patrons. It's very clear to me that the customer service at Montelupo has a long way to go to catch up to the quality of the food being served there. When I shared this feedback directly with Montelupo's management team, they never even responded. Clearly, they don't care about their patrons. I sadly won't be returning to Montelupo again as a customer - I value the money I work hard to earn, and want to spend it at businesses that value me as a customer.

For restaurant week I made a reservation, but this time (on a Saturday) we just popped in after visiting All Good, the beer/wine/cocktail next door (they also have an awesome antique spot). I don't leave reviews, normally, unless it's super great or horribly bad, and I would 1,000% like to shout out some positivity for this Italian spot. Massive Plus: - told we had to wait at least 30-45 minutes wherever by a very nice and sunny redheaded host (I did not get their name, but they were really nice and had a super cute dress and I just want them to know that they're awesome- hence being more descriptive). We got a text in about 10 minutes that our space was ready!!!! We had gone back to All Good to wait (BTW, if you're waiting for Cibo and go next door to get a beer, your drinks are $1 off!). We tried to chug, but we decided that our burpfarts would be best saved for after dinner than delicious IPA chugging, so we left the majority of them on the bar. -Food: Just order everything. We were sat at the bar and had a front seat view of the kitchen. Although everyone on the line was awesome, I asked the bartender/server the name of the person at the head of the line. His name is Gayo and he is a f***ing bad***!!! The restaurant was busy as heck and he just...did it. Watching him (as well as the rest of the kitchen staff, bar staff, and servers) work, was a pretty gorgeous ballet that I would suggest you pair with a bottle of wine. -That being said- our server/bartender was Christine and she was such a delight!!! I CAN NOT stress enough how many amazing people you get to meet when you're relaxed, calm, and have a sense of humor when you're out dining. Christine suggested an amazing Rosé (I definitely could chug that...nbd) was kind, funny, sweetly sassy, and you could really tell that she had dealt with busy days many many times before. There is almost zero space between the bar/kitchen/pass and everyone does such a great job dealing with it. Myself and my husband have already decided this is our new Italian spot and we hope you will love it too!!!
