The staff at this location was super friendly and showed no hesitation when I asked to try out a few flavors off of their monthly specials menu. For the month of July, Salt & Straw has a summer pies series with tasty flavors like "peaches and cream galette" and "gruyere and tomato custard tart". Between their monthly specials menu and their classics, I'm pretty confident even the pickiest of guests will find something off the menu that they'll find novel and be able to enjoy. In terms of seating, this location features two long benches next to the shop's front windows. Since it was a beautiful day outside on the day we stopped by, the windows were fully opened up to the busy streets, making it a perfect spot to people watch while enjoying ice cream. If you're looking for a sweet treat in this part of town, Salt & Straw is the place to go.

The chicken was a large portion, grilled on the flat grill then sliced. A little plain, but necessary protein. Husband ordered the ravioli, which came with fresh tomatoes, pine nuts and basil. He really enjoyed this dish, even though he requested it without the corn I would have consumed. It had a nice sprinkle of finely grated Parmesan and a puddle of olive oil. After brunch, we asked if we could move outside for dessert, and they were very accommodating. Sitting on the patio on a warm Portland summer day with coffee and a Papa Haydn dessert made for the perfect ending. Great food, friendly service, and that cozy neighborhood Portland vibe. Their muscles are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Truly, the best I've ever had. This beats living in the southeast on the coast, any west-coast seafood restaurant, and every place I've ever enjoyed in Italy. They're essentially 24/7 because during Covid they made the incredibly bizarre and ingenious move to put their insanely beautiful patisserie in old school slot-style cafeteria vending machines. So during isolation one could run out in your mask and gloves, stay six feet away from the person behind you, and yank open any door to reveal an amazing little dessert behind each one. It was a taste of restaurants (professional desserts!!!) that we all missed so much. But it wasn't a gimmick that went away like the closed bubble dining pods. The cafeteria vending machines have stayed. I've picked up multiple different styles to have lots of dessert options at a birthday, I've stopped there in the middle of the night for an after-hospital cheering up, it's basically made for wandering over after making love any time of day or night. They somehow stay beautiful, fresh, and delicious in this little gimmicky machine. It's fun, whimsical, and I think some of the best patisserie in town.

I tried the hazelnut chocolate mousse cake which had a name that I've completely forgotten now of course! It took me a while to find it while I was there, but there is a menu on a table that describes what each of the desserts are, since they are only identified by name in the vending machine.

I wish I'd gone back and gotten some pie as well but hey, you know that just means I have to return. Check out some of the kinds of pies: salted honey, lemon chess, chocolate honeycomb, tart cherry and more. Staff was friendly and delivered orders accurately in spite of crowds. I would love to return to cheese plates and/or the brie & marionberry sammy. The staff was friendly and were happy to answer our questions. I'm a huge fan of the breakfast sandwich with Spam. The bread was toasted perfectly, the American cheese was melted just right, and the house Hank's sauce took the whole sandwich up another notch. Definitely a solid way to start the day. I also enjoyed the Marionberry pie, which was a great sweet finish,but not too sweet. They have a ton of choices when it comes to both sweet and savory pies, so there's plenty to keep coming back for. Already looking forward to my next Portland visit so I can try some more!

The croffle was delicious, the ice cream was great, and the whole combination hit the spot. Miss Oz is such a cute, quality little dessert shop. Definitely make this a stop during your trip to Portland if you're looking for something sweet and a little different from the average ice cream shop.
