Honey sweetened chocolate bars that are super tasty! We came near the closing time, but she still enthusiastically let us try every single version of chocolate bar they made! So Yum!! Everything was really good, I bought a mix pack of 4. I think my favorite is the malt bar though. Definitely stop by to try, you won't be able to resist getting some!

The mint bar puts York patties and Junior Mints to shame and is dairy free. AND you can get samples!

Best handmade chocolates in town! Andrea has spoiled me with Reserve Bars, but I can't wait to try the 'Bert Bar. Highly recommend!

Mothers is a great place to eat downtown, but I'd recommend making reservations or at least calling ahead. They get busy! Service was very friendly and our server checked in on us an acceptable number of times. Everyone we interacted with was also friendly and warm. The food came out quickly, hot, and prepared correctly. All items were quite tasty. It's not exactly gourmet in terms of you taking a bite and thinking it's the best thing you've ever eaten, but it's solid. I really want to try dinner there. Ambience is busy and bustling. Really it's what you'd expect for a downtown diner. This is the kind of place I would take people to who are coming in from out of town and I'm not sure how adventurous they are (mom & pop from Ohio for example) We will definitely eat here again.

But when our server was with us, they were very nice and patient with my questions and requests. It's a bit loud when the place is on the full side, making it difficult to have a conversation. I wouldn't bring my girlfriend who is hard of hearing, at least with a group. I'd be curious to try more of the menu. I was very much not wowed by the breakfast. The beverages were however very nice, and I recently had the cobbler dessert and it looked amazing and tasted better. We had the coffee (Extracto, love.), I had a really good hef and my mother a very well balanced Bellini that I was very pleasantly surprised with trying. From what I saw, the lunch sounds very good and I'd be more apt to recommend folks give that a shot if they happened to be going there too. I'm not sure if I'd recommend as a must go stop. Vibe wise, the ambience is overall really nice. I think having rolled flatware, even with just upgraded napkins, would better complete the aesthetic you initially see and feel. This would also connect with the price point of the food and quality of the beverages. As a fellow server, on that note I would expect more consistent stronger visual appearance standards with servers. (Sorry guys! But some of you looked great!) Overall, I'd definitely join a friend for coffee and lunch over there in the future. Just wouldn't be my top pick for a celebratory brunch or intimate dinner with a date or friends and fam.

It's upscale ice cream... are you expecting to be disappointed?…read more I'm sure you at least know Salt & Straw by reputation... it's the preeminent ice cream chain in Portland. And for good reasons! The flavors, taste and experience are truly phenomenal. I typically try to visit during the day so that there isn't a long line. If you come anytime after 6 PM, expect to wait a while. It's just that good! The staff is always incredibly friendly and they will let you sample as many flavors as you like before you decide. They have standard staples for flavors and then seasonal ones that rotate every few months. This particular location has very little seating so you should plan to take yours to go. I recommend enjoying it while you stroll on NW 23rd. Otherwise, the staff will be happy to pack up a scoop for you and/or you can take a pint to go! Parking is a typical challenge for this area, but prices are reasonable and you can't beat the service. My favorite part of the experience is that first step into the front door when I smell the fresh waffle cones being made. From beginning to end, it's a scrumptious culinary experience that can't be missed.

Since 1978, this beloved NW 23rd treasure has been spoiling Portlanders with the kind of desserts that make you close your eyes on the first bite. My sweetheart surprised me with a warm Sunday evening date on their charming outdoor patio -- the kind of spontaneous, romantic gesture that becomes a treasured memory. Our server was warm, unhurried, and genuinely helpful in helping us choose between an impossible array of beautiful options. We settled on the Chocolate Raspberry Torte -- a rich chocolate crust filled with silky chocolate mousse, crowned with glistening fresh raspberries and a ribbon of raspberry sauce -- and the Chocolate Truffle Cake, a towering masterpiece of dark layers, ganache, and a cloud of whipped cream. Decadent and delightful don't begin to cover it. What makes Papa Haydn extraordinary is that behind every dessert is a real story -- a Berlin baker's family recipes, a sculptor sister who turned pastry into art, a dream that has now spanned generations and 700 tons of chocolate. That history lives in every bite. If you haven't been, go. If you have, go again. Portland is lucky to have them.
