    White Ragu Cream

Satisfying White Ragu Cream - pork and beef - pasta dish. Portion was fair. Garlic bread was kinda weak. Nice guy in the window.

We stopped by on Sunday and we were the first in line. We saw an exciting post promoting the cart on Instagram and made it an important to do. We decided to order one from each sauce category. The Tomato Ragu with Steak, the Aglio e Olio, the Gochujang Ragu, and the Lemon Butter Fish. They let us know it would be a wait for 4 dishes. We said, no problem we'll walk around Fred Meyer. They normally give you a buzzer but since we would be out of range, they took my number and texted us 20 min later. Ok yes we went home and plated it. But then we warmed it up and loved it. #1 is the Gochujang Ragu, such emotional flavor. #2 Aglio e Olio, classic dish done right and then Lemon butter fish but shrimp would be good too. Surprisingly the steak Ragu was intially our least favorite BUT as leftovers two days later it was 10/10. The flavor builds. We're fans, we'll be back!!

    Gochujang cheese ravioli

Very generous and kind staff, as I was waiting to order I watched him hand an older woman a water bottle when she was picking up her order. When she first asked for water he pointed towards steeplejack and started to tell her there was free water inside, then stopped himself and gave her a bottle for free, seeing she may have had mobility difficulties. Last time I got the Caesar salad and tomato steak ragu- excellent, the pasta was spicier than expected! I love spice so didn't mind at all. This time I got the gochujang cheese ravioli and Caesar salad again (don't sleep on the Caesar!). Also delicious but I was missing the chew of the fettuccine noodles a little. I tried my fiancés white ragu cream pasta which had spaghetti noodles (we think) and a great bite. I preferred the spicier flavor profile but thought it was very yummy. We will definitely be back!

He answered all of our questions, offered samples of several flavors. And let us know how they're made. The raviolis themselves are quite large and really tasty. I'm not sure they even had a sign with their business name as I had to look them up later. But they know what they're doing, as seeing these beautiful mountains of stuffed dough got the sale! All of their pasta is naturally colored with juiced kale, peppers, carrots, turmeric, tomatoes, blueberries, and beets. They don't use food coloring. It's truly a beautiful product. Of course then the question is, does the taste match? And I'm happy to say it did! These were tasty, made with both a red sauce and a butter sauce at home later. And I'm not really a good cook, but ravioli are hard to mess up with ~5 mins of simmering in boiling water. I got all of one flavor and would like to try a variety next time. These would be great for a dinner party where you want the aesthetics to match the deliciousness!

Even though it was Saturday on nice evening, we were able to snag an outside table to accommodate having our dog. The meatballs were good, ground fine. I needed to ask for a few more crostini though. Cannoli was the star - crispy, creamy, chocolaty, and nutty! Recommended overall! I will be back to try some pasta!

As you walk in, you're greeted by a market and an oyster bar. Then, through another entrance, you discover the dining room. It's such a fun and unique layout. They offer a tasting menu, but since we were planning to stop somewhere else afterward, we ordered à la carte. We started with the oysters, and they were incredible. The strawberry sherry jelly on top elevated the fresh oysters beautifully, adding just the right touch of sweetness and acidity. Next came the chickpea socca and the tomato salad. Together, they were absolute perfection. The tomato salad was one of the best I've had. Dressed with a tomato-water dashi vinaigrette, it was bright, refreshing, and full of umami at the same time. Light, yet surprisingly deep in flavor. Our favorite dish of the night was the Summer Pasta. The lemon butter sauce, tender summer squash, and bursts of fresh tomato created the perfect balance. Every bite tasted like summer. For our final dish, we had the halibut with artichokes, couscous, and grilled kombu. It was beautifully cooked and everything paired well together. It was delicious, although the earlier dishes had set such a high bar that this one felt a little more familiar. The service was warm, the atmosphere was relaxed, the beer selection was excellent, and every dish was thoughtfully prepared. It was one of those dinners where everything simply came together. I would happily come back the next time I'm in Portland.

What a find! The food was Pacific Northwest dining using local ingredients and making them shine. We had 3 starters, which allowed us to try different things. The oysters with gelee and the carrot salad (which they split for us) were standouts. My pasta entree was fabulous, with crunchy texture from crispy sun chokes (genius). The dessert tasted homey though also unique. Service from beginning to end was friendly, very knowledgeable and thoughtful. Wine pairing recommendations were on point. If I lived in Portland, this would be on regular rotation. Highly recommend.

A Hidden Gem for Traditional Vietnamese Soups…read more Annam VL is one of those places that reminds you that simple food, when made well, doesn't need to be complicated. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt casual and authentic. The wood interior, Vietnamese nón lá display, and small dining room created a welcoming neighborhood feel that lets the food take center stage. We started with the Bánh Ít Trần, and it was an excellent choice. The chewy rice dumplings had a pleasant texture, while the fried shallots, scallions, and pickled vegetables added layers of flavor and balance to every bite. The highlight was the Miến Gà (Vietnamese chicken glass noodle soup). The broth was exceptionally clean, light, and comforting without being bland. You could taste the care that went into it. The glass noodles had a perfect texture, the chicken was tender, and the generous amount of herbs, scallions, and crispy fried shallots added freshness and aroma throughout the bowl. This is the kind of soup that feels nourishing rather than heavy. One tip for first-time visitors: arrive early. We got there around 1:30 PM, and nearly half of the menu had already sold out. That says a lot about how popular the restaurant is, but if you have your heart set on a specific dish, don't wait until the afternoon. The menu is intentionally small and rotates, which I appreciate. Focusing on a handful of dishes usually means they can maintain quality, and based on this visit, they're doing exactly that. Overall, Annam VL is serving authentic Vietnamese comfort food with outstanding broths and honest flavors. If you're a fan of traditional Vietnamese soups, this spot absolutely deserves a visit. Just be sure to get there early before your favorite dish sells out.
