Still a solid place to come especially for lunch. They are quick and the lunch specials are reasonable. We ordered a couple of lunch specials to share and a Dan Dan noodle as well. The hand shaven noodles were excellent and noodles had a great chewy texture to them. The chopped chicken was pretty flavorful and had a little nice kick to it. The Dan Dan noodles were a bit to saucy for me.

Let's go! I have been looking for a good Chinese spot for a long time and this one hit every craving I had. I got a photo of the General Tsao but not the chow mein but they both were top notch and kept me wanting more. New to this SW area but this will be a major go to for me. I will be trying many things in this menu! Place is pretty big too.

Have tried this place two more times since the last review. Service and food are spot on. Szechuan chicken and beef were cooked perfectly with lots of veggies and hot peppers. We both ate every morsel on our plates. No box's needed! Probably will see you next Friday. I'm not sure, but is hot tea extra?

The ambiance is very nice, the prices are reasonable and the servers were very present and helpful. So many tasty items to choose from!

I stumbled upon this location by accident while trying to find parking for a nearby theater. Ultimately it ended up being a worthwhile accident! The staff inside are very considerate and friendly, and the food was fantastic. I was very surprised that it wasn't more crowded! The aesthetic was very casual and reminds me of just a corner diner, except here they serve amazing Schezuan food! I tried a number of items there, and they all packed huge flavor you'd expect from Schezuan food. My only complaint is that it is a bit heavier on the oily side so I wouldn't recommend this place for people on a diet or sensitive stomachs. Next time I'll probably order some lighter dishes to balance things out, but I'll definitely be back for the service and wonderful food!

Tried this place on a drizzly day and it hit the spot. I'm still shocked by how fast the service was; food landed on our table minutes after ordering! Loved the fish filet and hot and spicy gravy; the peppercorns were popping and the spice level was perfect. Lots of napa to soak up the sauce. Rice is not included. Less impressed however with the braised beef brisket noodle soup. Not the dark roasty broth I'm used to but still good. Overall a solid place to check out. Right by PSU campus too.

First time here. I'm visiting Portland from San Francisco. My sister and her husband brought me here. It's her and her husband's fav spot, with good reason. Food is plentiful and flavorful, customer service is hospitable and good: ambience is clean and spacious

I come here every week since I am a student at PSU. The food is absolutely terrific and you can't beat the lunch special. You get an entree, side of rice, soup, and I always get tea, all for $14. Best prices for someone in college. I always read or touch up on homework while eating and I never feel rushed, despite it being very popular and filling up quick. So far I've had string bean beef, Mongolian chicken, eggplant in hot garlic sauce- all is great but beef chow mein is my favorite so far. Staff is very attentive and food comes out wicked quick. I will continue to visit every week until I finish my degree in 2 years

It was my second time here. I ordered the same thing the first time that was recommended to me by the cute handsome guy that was working that day as the host. He suggested the Szechuan chicken which is their most popular dish. I got spicy, and man was it spicy. Loved it. They give big portions, it will definitely fill you up! They charge extra for side of rice if you want. This second time I went in I also ordered their stir fried hot and spicy cabbage, it was delicious, again big serving. It's located on/near the PSU campus. The restaurant looks clean, and the service is great. I will be back again and again whenever I'm craving this style of food. Thank you! 10/10

Really wanted to love the food but it just wasn't meant to be. The restaurant itself is easy to find and its simple decor is nice. We dined here for dinner last Thursday. The service here is fast and friendly, from being seated right away to receiving food within minutes of ordering. We ordered chong qing hot chicken, pork w/wood fungus, and beef chow mein. All the dishes were unexpectedly really sweet which made it difficult to enjoy. I order the chong qing chicken at a lot of places and sweet is not a flavor profile common with this dish. We made the best of it by adding chili, salt and or soy sauce to our dishes to distract us from the sweetness. Based on the glowing Yelp reviews though, I'm thinking maybe the food here is adjusted to the local palate which is fine, just not a good fit for me personally.

Hot and sour soup tasty. Big portion. Loved hand cut noodles with shrimp and soup dumplings. The green beans were fabulous. Caution- hot pots are spicy. Beef was good. Delicious Mai tai. Good service. Fast turnaround. Clean restaurant.

My overall experience here was MID. Also the next day I had the WORST MSG hangover... that feeling just sucks. The soup was boiling hot when it arrived and that burned my tongue and I had to wait for it to cool. This place has won awards for being one of the best restaurants in PDX so I decided to come here. The vibe was meh, like a regular chinese restaurant type place. Food was 3 stars.

If I could review higher than 5 stars, I would. This is my new favorite Chinese spot. The portions were large, prices were fair, service was excellent, and most importantly, all the food we had was incredible. To top off the experience, someone with good music taste was on the aux because we were getting so many early 2010's throwbacks and Eminem. I will absolutely be back, you guys knocked it out of the park.

The smashed cucumber salad was super refreshing -- lots of garlic, crunchy, and exactly what you want after hours in the car. The green onion pancakes came out crispy and satisfying, but my favorite was the wood ear mushroom. They did something to it that made it insanely umami and savory, like a dish you keep thinking about later. The fried rice was solid and full of flavor, and you could tell the kitchen cared. The dining room was pretty empty when we went, so maybe it's newer or underrated, which feels unfair because the food deserves more people. Parking around there is kind of a hassle and the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but this is a definite stop for me next time I'm in Portland.

Shoutout to everyone still working on Thanksgiving Day! Because of hardworking folks like you,…read morepeople who don't celebrate holidays like me can still eat out. I'm super grateful. Before coming, I did my homework and checked reviews on Chinese review website. The opinions were kinda extreme, some said it was terrible, others said it was amazing. Since it was only a 1 minute walk from my hotel and actually open on Thanksgiving, I went for it. I ordered jalapeño beef 小炒牛肉, veggie chow mein 蔬菜炒面, and string beans 干煸四季豆. The beef came out first, and the first bite surprised me. It didn't taste like the jalapeño beef from other Sichuan restaurants. It tasted exactly like Cantonese beef with gailan, but with green bell peppers instead. Instead of tingly spicy, it had a subtle sweetness. If you're Cantonese, you probably know exactly what I mean. The veggie chow mein was good and reminded me of late night street noodles in Guangzhou, and it also had a slightly sweet touch. The string beans were good too, and didn't have any sweetness. There was some savory minced pork in it. If you're not a strict vegetarian and don't mind a little meat in the dish as long as you only eat the veggie part, go for this one, it was flavorful. While having dinner, I overheard Cantonese in the kitchen between the chef and staff, and ahhh, that explains why I tasted the Cantonese flavor in my dishes! It also explains the two types of extreme reviews. So let me be honest, if you come here expecting the Sichuan/Hu'nan version of stir-fried beef with a strong spicy profile, you might be disappointed. But for me, it was honestly a lucky hit. I did see some Sichuan spicy dishes on the menu, but I didn't order them, so I can't say if they're authentic. But based on what I ordered tonight, I was happy with everything.

I walked in excited, but I can't say that I felt the same way walking out. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with this self serve hot pot. Let me walk you through my experience. I walked into a nearly empty restaurant and was greeted promptly. I was excited to see that the place was clean, well decorated, and had a simple drink, appetizer, and broth menu on the TV screens. I mentioned to the host that it was our first time here and that we would need some instructions. He just pointed out that the bowls are here, get your ingredients there, and pay over there. I was expecting a warmer welcome than that, but oh well, I dismissed it since I'm aware of the structure and he was young. The ingredients were neatly placed in containers that were well maintained. They seemed to be kept up with the supply and demand. However, I can easily see the cross contamination between raw meats and vegetables because there weren't additional tongs available to keep the ingredients separated, except for the one tong I was holding. Since all the food will be cooked together, I guess it would be fine...? We walked back and forth multiple times around the ingredients, not because there were too many to choose from, but because there was not enough variety. I was hoping there would be more noodles or more Asian green veggies to pick from, instead of broccoli, lettuce, or cauliflower. I do not feel like there was anything exciting or unique about their ingredients for me to rave about. Once we were done adding ingredients to our bowl, we went up to the register to weigh our food. It was $14.99 per pound for the first 5 soup flavors which were Classic Ma La Tang, Beef Bone, Rich Tomato, Mushroom, and Spicy Szechuan Dry Mix, and $16.99 for the Hot and Spicy Szechuan Dry Pot. I picked my broth and paid, then sat down and waited for my meal. Food did not take long for them to bring out; however, my soup did not come out hot. Was I expecting it to be boiling hot? No. But hot enough for all my food to be cooked well so I don't get sick. If you want a comparison, if you have ever eaten pho at a restaurant, the soup is hot. Well, my soup at Big Hey Hot Pot was not as hot as the pho soup. One thing that I was happy about was the sauce bar. They had everything you can imagine, such as sesame sauce, soy sauce, spicy sauce, hoisin sauce, garlic, onion, chopped green onion, cilantro, and peanuts. This sauce bar was unlimited and did not count towards your weight. I went back multiple times to get more sauce. Overall, this was not as satisfying as I thought it would be. I wish I had better service, more variety of ingredients to pick from, and hotter soup. Plenty of parking. Cards accepted. I will not be back.
