I tried this place 5 years ago, and I'm glad to say it is still as good as I remembered it. Actually, I swear we got mild flavor then and it was so spicy. I'm so glad they're mild is actually toned down for us to enjoy the food. The biang biang noodle ($12) is the best thing to get here. The noodles are thick, slightly doughy, chewy and smothered in the red chili sauce. It is one of the best biang biang noodles we've had. The portion is definitely shareable but I could eat one all by myself.

We came here on a Friday at 11:30 and there were a few folks waiting in line but nothing crazy. Placed an order for chicken chao mian and got it around 15 minutes later. They make the noodles to order which is super impressive! I love the differing sizes and thickness of the noodles. We got mild and it was definitely enough for us for lunch--had a slight kick to it without making us sweat. It was a bit on the salty side and different from normal stir fry flavors but a great new dish to try! Definitely worth the value!

I ordered the BIANG BIANG XXXTRA spicy and might have seriously messed up with that... the noodles were EXCESSIVELY SALTY. Like EXCESSIVELY!!! I had to add two bags arugula and tofu and avocado to balance it out. It was too much sodium.

Ordered the Chao Mian with chicken, mild, and, wow, absolutely delicious !!! Also, I recommend grabbing a brew at Fracture Great combo

I have been wanting to try this! More to try over time. Everything looked so good. I was drawn in by watching them hand pull the noodles. Pretty sure nothing in GF I had chao mian, with tofu. It was thinly slights and grilled? Pan fried? Toasted? Flavored well and sooo good. I have never had it like that! It was a generous serving and a decent price. I have left overs so it is lunch x2!

I had a strong craving for spicy, hand-pulled noodles, so Stretch the Noodle was my first stop after landing in Portland. Stretch that Noodle is located in a beer garden / food truck park with lots of delicious-sounding food options, but I knew exactly what I was looking for. When I arrived at lunchtime, there wasn't a line to order, but the wait for the noodles was nearly 20 minutes - probably because each meal is hand-pulled to order. Once I picked up my food, I grabbed a seat at the picnic tables in the center. The noodles tasted super fresh and perfectly chewy, and the sauce packed a punch that balanced heat and tanginess. I'd definitely order these noodles again - or try one of their other menu items.

At a glance: Would recommend: Yes Would go again: Yes Food quality: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Options available: 4/5 Price: 5/5 Decor/Vibes: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Customer Service: 5/5 Friendliness of staff: 5/5 Pros: This place was a great deal and the food was made rather quickly! The service was also very nice and friendly! Cons: Parking was a bit tough since it's in the city and I imagine it can get quite busy during busier hours. Overall: 4.9/5 I got the Biang Biang noodles as it was recommended by a friend and it was so worth going out of my way to get!! It was so delicious and much much better than I was expecting it to be. I was worried because I like having something more than just noodles in my meals but it the sauce/oil was so flavorful and the noodles, which I believe are handmade, were so good. My parented and I split it but I was still a bit hungry afterwards, which makes sense though as it wasn't large enough for both of us to fill up on one order. Def wish I got another though. Would recommend. Would go again.

My first visit here and I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles. I must say, I haven't had a lot of opportunities to have freshly pulled noodles in this town. I know of several places, but this is one of very few that I want to revisit (I actually returned the next day after I recommended it to a friend). I know these aren't the original owners of this cart. I wasn't sure how good it would be because I think the original owners set the bar high on quality. But they retired before I could try them out. Anyway, the new owners are friendly and the food is generously portioned and tastes fantastic! I work only a few blocks away. So I'm definitely coming back for more. They're part of the Mid-Town Beer Garden. There are several great carts here (from what people tell me). So make sure to leave room for noodles whenever you're at this pod.

Really good noodles & HUGE portions & dirt cheap. That's the main point if u don't wanna read more but I will go on anyway. From reading past reviews, sounds like the last guy owner was very mean & confrontational to customers so I was a little sad he is gone now bc I was hoping for a show w/ my lunch. But I guess polite & respectful is fine too... But they still here even after SOOO many complaints so that has to say something about the food ‍ even the 1 star reviews admit the food is still good lol 1st time I came, I tried the Biang Biang noodles and was sooo disappointed, they were wide flat noodles tossed in chili sauce w/ sesame seeds and literally NOTHING ELSE, so boring tasting. I literally gave the rest to a homeless guy after a couple bites which is crazy for me, I always finish my food even if I don't like it. But very glad I came again to try bc I thought maybe I just ordered the wrong thing - I enjoyed the Chao Mian (not chow mein cuz noodles are soft) and La Mian (beef noodle soup). - Beef noodle soup is one of the best I've had: such tender plentiful beef and delightfully bouncy but not too chewy noodles. It had Szechuan peppercorn flavor & some greens like cilantro & spinach which is unlike other Chinese beef noodle soups I'm used to but I liked it. And I asked for the most spicy & it actually made me sweat but wasn't crazy. - Chao Mian: dry stir fry, very good but could've been more stir fried. Though I don't think it's really a stir fry dish as that would've kind of ruined the freshness of the noodles. Soup is way to go IMO. Still need to try the cold noodle salad dish tho. Also P.S - not sure why so many ppl are complaining about having to wait 15-20 min for food.. that is regular amount of time to cook any meal to order besides McDonald's, I'm not sure what you are expecting...especially from a food cart w/ 2, sometimes 1 employee.

#2 Chao Mian with Chicken.

Wow. What a tasty lunch! I got it medium spicy. The chicken was delicious as were the stir-fried veggies but the noodles are definitely the star of this dish (#2 Chao Mian). Will definitely be back. Midtown Beer Garden has a cool vibe with a terrific selection of other food carts. I am eyeing the Indian Curry House and their butter chicken for next time. Will definitely come back to Stretch the Noodle!

Pork Dumplings

Had a great little lunch at Stretch yesterday with some friends. I got the Biang Biang Noodles and they were fantastic! Great, springy texture with a good amount of chew. I go them medium heat and it was right on the edge of being too spicy for me. I do wish there was an option to get a protein added into them because just the noodles was a little one note. The pork dumplings unfortunately weren't my favorite. The wrapper was great and chewy and had a good sear, but the filling was unpleasantly tough and dense. I don't mind a stuffed dumpling, but the inside felt like it was overworked and had become really firm in a bad way. Would definitely come back, just wouldn't get the dumplings again.

Dan Dan noodles

I love hand pulled noodles but this place did not hit for me. I got the dan dan noodles because it's a classic dish but they added pickled carrots and daikons which was odd because it's not traditional to add those ingredients in. It did not have the peanut flavor I was searching for and it was quite disappointing. This place was on top of my list to try in Portland. I didn't even finish it and I always finish my plates. It was lacking in flavors and it did not sit well with my palate. The service was good, you order through their food cart and that's where you pick up your orders too. We're in an open seated areas where anyone can enjoy their meal in peace with long tables. So, if you don't like sharing your tables, I suggest you get it to go or stand up and eat your meal. I wouldn't come back and I was really looking forward to this restaurant.

Chao Mian (Medium)
Kenneth T.

One of the best food carts downtown and my most frequented. Delicious hand pulled noodles tossed with chili oil, meat, and veg. Simple. Well priced. Large portions. I consider myself a spicy food dude but I usually order "Medium" for heat. Wait time's usually not too long but if it's busy get comfy. It'll be worth the wait. Things have still been good since the change in ownership last year. Biggest complaint is there's a bit more variance in the noodles where sometimes they come out softer then I'd like but most of the things that make this cart great have stayed the same. Would be nice if they served drinks though. I almost always order the Chao Mian but the La Mian is also fantastic for a soupier mood. Biang-biang is great but left me wanting meat and veggies. Dan Dan is eh but I had it sans peanuts (allergy) so I feel like it's just not for me. If you're in the midtown beer garden it's really either this or Tokyo Sando. Both of their respective quality and value dwarfs all the other carts I've tried there so far. If you're really in the mood for another cuisine then follow your heart but mine lives at Stretch The Noodle.

The place was full of hungry locals and tourists but was uncustomarily quiet and calm. From the hostess that seated us, to the waitress and servers, all staff and management were extremely polite, positive and helpful. We were starving. So we ordered 3 entrees and side of Dry-fried String beans. The Green Beans were cooked perfectly and the serving size was generous! One of our new favorites is the Mongolian Chicken. Is not a spicy Chinese food dish but the moist chicken and seasonings produced a yummy & comfort food level dish! As usual, the lightly battered & deveined Butterfly prepared Salt & Pepper Shrimp was mouthwatering, with every bite. As the last entree to be served. The ten Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings were fresh and flavorful. Needless to say, with only 2 patrons eating lunch with 3 heaping entrees plus Dry-fried String beans and white rice - we took home 2 more meals worth of Chinese food leftovers. Definitely dine in at this Old Town location or order To Go!

The service was kind of weird/awkward about IDing us for drinks. I assured her I was happy to grab my ID and she was kind of rude, alluding to the fact I look old and she doesn't need it haha. As our food started to come, our friend noticed a long black hair in the chicken dumplings. We notified our server and she investigated the dish on our table. This rubbed us all the wrong way because you should believe your customer and take the plate from the table and maybe exam it in the back/kitchen? We didn't like the hair deter us and everything was truly delicious. We had pork soup buns (good, but not very soup-y), pork wontons in chili oil (yum!), chicken potstickers (probably my favorite), spicy chow mein (delicious), the dry fried green beans (so good)! We were stuffed. I ended up telling the server that we wouldn't need the new chicken dumplings and she was very rude and taken back by that. I feel bad to inconvenience them, but none of it would've happened if there wasn't a hair in the food? There were other small, rude things our server did but ultimately, it didn't ruin our night or take away from the delicious food! I would recommend the restaurant with the warning that the service is lackluster.

We devoured everything and left no crumbs but the dishes I would likely gravitate back towards are the hand pulled noodles, wings, and actually the Mandoo! The hand pulled noodles were coated nicely with a spicy sauce and had a great chew to them. I loved the thickness of the noodles and added crunch from the cabbage and other veggies. Half sweet and half spicy for the wings was the way to go - each wing was doused in sauce and sesame seeds but still maintained its crunch. As someone that doesn't usually like wings, these were fantastic. Lastly, the Mandoo surprised me! It was the sauce that sealed the deal. It was like a thousand island, poppy seed kind of dressing that worked very well. I couldn't stop eating them. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, this is the place!
