    Lamb Over Rice
    Ashlee S.

Whoa. Best halal I've ever had! I ordered the lamb over rice and it was a huge portion with just the right amount of fresh veggies to hummus to tzatziki to delicious lamb! It even was topped with a delicious grape leaf. Lived in NYC for years and this tops all of those halal trucks.

Pharoah's Food Truck is in SW 5th and SW Harvey Milk st. It's near the Oak and 5th St Max Stop. It's really reasonable compared to other Middle Eastern Food Trucks and restaurants. The roasted Lamb and rice comes with pickled veggies and one Dolma. It was a lot of food for $12. It was Sunday, so most of the Food Trucks were closed. Plus it was super hot outside. I ducked inside the Sonesta Hotel to eat. But there are picnic tables there.

    Lamb gyro $7

This was one of the very first food carts I've tried when i visited PDX 5 years ago. When I first had it, my impression was "woah, for $5, you can get this delicious lamb gyro the size of your face!" Granted, I did not finish the whole thing by myself, despite how many more bites I want to indulge. I went back to it recently, especially how it's one of the places that opened late. Huge convenience factor there. So 5 years later, prices had increased, packaging was different (instead of just a paper plate, it's now wrapped up in foil), but it's still a sizable meal though. It's still a big messy meal, but it's easier to take it to go or just to save up the leftovers. Not recommending as a meal right before bed, that full stomach is going to keep you awake the whole entire night. Service was hit or miss. 5 years ago, there was a line but food came out quick. Last visit I had ordered my gyro with fries, had I not ask if fries are in the bag, they would have forgotten it.

Super friendly staff but mediocre gyro. Looked like it was packed with meat (too much imho) but actually all the meat is piled on top of the veges. The meat is chunks (as opposed to slices) and are fried so they are crispy and charred. Flavor ok but the sauce and veges didn't taste like much.

Gigantic beef wrap - enough for 2

Excited to try this place especially as it's halal. We got the beef gyro which was ready in about 10 minutes. The sandwich is GIGANTIC and loaded with lots of beef, veggies, tzaziki and hummus. Sadly that's about the best part. The cut of beef used had very chewy tendon pieces in it making it not super enjoyable to eat. Flavor wise, the meat didn't bring much to the table and it was more so the sauces (which it had plenty of) that carried the gyro. I'd come again to try perhaps the lamb or chicken options since price for amount you get is incredible but will be skipping the beef.

If you're looking for a place open 24/7, has large portions, and gives you a bang for your buck (thing $5 or less) then this is your place! My friends and I stumbled upon this place around 12AM on a Friday night and were so happy since we were starving and didn't expect any other places to be open. I'm a gyro lover so you betcha that this place was a blessing in disguise! The gyros here are ONLY $5 and is enough to feed 2 people. I repeat 2 people for under $5. Coming from the bay area where gyros average $10 for 1, this was an unbelievable deal. | WHAT WE GOT | Lamb gyro & french fries - The gyro was delicious! I love that they use thick pita bread and ensure pieces of meat are flowing out of the dish. The sauce they add on top definitely ties everything together. The only con for this dish was that they added Gardiniere to the dish as well. I'm not used to having this in my gryos so it was a little weird for me and I thought it made the sauce soggy as you got to the end. - The french fries come in a HUGE order and are enough to share between 4 people. They are perfectly fried to a crisp and they pair it with their white/red sauce that they add on the gryos. | LOCATION | - It's a corner shop that you can't miss. They have a few stools to sit on but don't expect tables to sit down on. | SERVICE | - The people inside are super awesome and great to chat with as you wait for your meal! Wish they had an SF location because I'll be missing these gyros! haha

This will always be my go to after a long night of socializing downtown Portland. They are open late and always have the best chicken Gyro.

We got a chicken shawarma plate and it was the best thing we ate in the whole food court. Service was very friendly, too.

I've been here quite a few times and have really enjoyed the Aribic People's latte with its strong cardamon overtones, the Chocolate Jesus and today, the Mucho Calliente, which promises a chili infusion, and cinnamon infused espresso with dark chocolate! But wait..., oh no, I forgot to ask for oat... this is probably (certainly) dairy. Argh! Sorry, I have no Viking blood and can not digest cow milk. I would rather battle the aforementioned Viking before I'd endure the results of ... dairy! So, I brought my drink up fully prepared to pay for another and everyone there, EVERYONE, in almost unison, refused to take my payment. They kindly and quickly made another and... oh... spicy indeed, but chocolatey and balanced! One of the best spicy mochas I've had anywhere ... and I am an absolute Spella snob and proud of it! Inside secret: Don't miss out on the great selection of truly authentic Egyptian foods and pastries, as well as some really nice necklaces and earrings. If you need that piece to pull your whole Nefertiti look together before going out for a Saturday of dancing and fun... this is your hidden gem!

His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. Huge thanks to Joe for the incredible hospitality and for sharing these traditions with us. I hope they expand to include a full Egyptian, Mediterranean food menu.
