His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne.
