Once there, I wanted a falafel and there are a few spots that offer falafels at this location. Small Pharoah's looked good so I gave it a try. So glad I did! I initially wanted the falafel wrap but the gentleman working persuaded me to get the falafel gyro instead. Honestly it was so loud with the live band that I couldn't quite hear why he suggested that falafel option but again, I am glad I listened to him! I did have to wait over 15 minutes for my order but I didn't really mind and again, totally worth the wait. The falafel itself was tasty and flavorful and not dry at all and it was loaded with lettuce, pickles, and topped w feta cheese. I was very impressed with the taste and devoured my meal quickly. Also - it was only $9 so just another good reason to eat here.

OK onto the service and food. Food: awesome! I haven't been to Egypt in 20 years where I experienced the great and original Koshari in Cairo. I remember it being cheap good and greasy. This was not cheap (but it is a good value!!), it was very good, and not as greasy as I remember. But that's probably a good thing! Putting the extra lime vinegar sauce on it really helps and helps me dig into that flavor that I miss- of and the crispy friend onion!!. i've only had Koshari one other time in the United States and it was in NYC, so I really love being able to have this here. I brought a large group and our food took a little while because I didn't understand the ordering or I would've ordered in advance. once our long wait was over ( we had nine people) we devoured the food! Everybody loved it whether they had Koshari or the Mac. I will also note that the impossible Koshari was an especially good deal - only$2 to add a vegan burger to the top of the koshari! they ran out of some of the drinks that we ordered and replaced them with nicer drinks. The folks were excellent, kind, and really took care of us! glad i'm not too far away- i'll be back! also, i'm not a night owl but if you are ... this is your spot!

When I don't know what to do with my day, or I have work to catch up on, I go to Tov and go from there. Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. Very enjoyable for someone who normally avoids ice or chewing on ice.

I dropped it one star (from a 4.8) because as others mentioned, the cleanliness of the floor. The tables, seats, and all that were fine but it was clear the floors need some attention. Not "tacky" as others mentioned but the corners need a good deep clean. I only noticed because I dropped silverware while dumping my plate so got a closer look when I picked it up. We also ordered the Makouda, which I had never tried before. They're Moroccan fried potato patties that are crispy on the outside and soft and seasoned on the inside. They came with a spicy tomato sauce on the side, which was really good, although definitely had some heat! We also got olives with it. And we had to try the Chicken Tagine! It came with tender, flavorful chicken, potatoes, and olives in a deliciously seasoned sauce. The flavors were warm and savory, and the chicken was really tender.
