Cute place with ample seating. Came in afternoon on weekday and there was just one person working/doing everything so it took some time to make the different specialty drinks. Though staff member was kind and would go back - I tried to branch out and get something different though unless wish I just stuck to my typical order.
Still such a kind and chill spot. Love the Arabic People's Latte with Oat! I really need to try the gorgeous sweets some time soon...!
Needed an iced coffee before deciding on lunch in the Hawthorne area and came across this gem! So beautiful and comfy, I tried the iced nectar of the gods on the barista's recommendation and it was delicious. The flavor was nothing I've ever experienced with house made caramel and cardamom syrups in an espresso base, it was the perfect pick me up!
I ordered the nectar of the gods iced coffee and I really enjoyed it. Would def get again. They had some seating outside too which was nice
Very tasty coffee! Highly recommend Nectar of the Gods- cold. Had a sweet caramel taste but with a spice of cardamon. I would definitely come back to try other items on the menu. I bought coffee beans from here that are from Ethiopia. Server was friendly. Ambiance is nice with an Egyptian feel. Lots of tables.
Coffee was delicious and service was great! I had the chocolate Jesus and flavor profile was so rich with spices, and strong mocha flavor. I do really miss the double decker bus! But the place looks very nice. Also please bring back the Egyptian coffee!
We stopped by Tōv to grab coffee while visiting Portland. The space had street parking (which can be hard to find in the area), but we were able to secure a spot without great difficulty. The ambiance here is IMPECCABLE. We were greeted by a guy playing saxophone upon entering, and he was so fun to have as a backtrack to our experience. The baristas were helpful in navigating the menu and made our drinks excellently, as they were out of a lot the day we were there. We each got different lattes (one person got chai), and we each loved our drinks! My chocolate Jesus was super rich, but it was to DIE for as a fun little treat! I got a ba'lawa to go - which was a fun little treat for later in my day. Perfectly honey sweet and flaky! Genuinely loved the experience. Wish that they hadn't been out of so much, but I'll definitely be back to try more!
We had a group gathering at Tov Coffee on Hawthorne felt like traveling to Egypt without leaving Portland. From the moment we walked in, the owner Joe welcomed everyone like old friends. His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. Huge thanks to Joe for the incredible hospitality and for sharing these traditions with us. I hope they expand to include a full Egyptian, Mediterranean food menu.
I've been wanting to try Tōv for a while now and finally got the chance today! I was deciding between the Nectar of the Gods and the Little Mermaid Latte. I got the latter and it was so delicious. We also shared a baklava which was served warm and was the perfect treat to share while we enjoyed our coffee. The inside is funky and cool, definitely Portland-Egypt rather than Egypt-Egypt, but enjoyable all the same.
I was excited to visit Tōv Coffee. Not only they are unique in a sense that they offer Egyptian inspired artisanal coffee, but all the photos I saw showed the coffee shop in a red double decker bus! But then, we never found the bus... Well guess what, they are no longer operating out of a bus, which was a bummer. The current location inside a building was a nice large space, especially for a cafe that only offers drinks and a handful of small snacks. The color was vibrant everywhere we looked, really fun atmosphere. The lighting fixtures were really nice, and each piece of furniture was fascinating. The best looking seating area was at one corner of the cafe. Here, with beautiful decor and furnishings, Tōv Coffee transfer you to a vibrant world, somewhere in the imaginary dessert in a big tent in Egypt. At least that is what I thought of. As for coffee, they were out of several of their popular coffee offerings on this day. We really wanted to try their iconic Egyptian Coffee that comes in a kanaka pot. But that was also unavailable... So, not double decker bus, no kanaka. It felt like they were out of half of their offerings for some reason, so the offering was limited on this day. Eventually, we settled with Rose Mocha, and from their "Limited Tasty Drinks" menu, Date Me. They were quite tasty, rich and satisfying. We had a nice afternoon coffee pick-me-up.
My feelings toward Portland in general were quite ambivalent, until I stumbled upon this coffee shop. I was so excited to try their drinks and I was not disappointed... Suddenly, my whole view of Portland changed and I couldn't wait to plan my next trip just so I can visit this establishment. Here is what I've tried so far (all of the drinks were good, the list is MOST favourite to averagely favourite heh): Mucho caliente (perfectly spicy... addicting!) Cardamom drip Arabic people latte Chocolate jesus I also tried the spicy fava bean wrap (good!) and the basboosa (REALLY GOOD, just perfectly sweet and reminds me of how my mama makes it). ...I've been going to them every day that I'm in town (yes, obsessed), so if you're still unsure, please take this as a sign that you should go give 'em a visit.
Really awesome and unique coffee shop! The staff was extremely friendly. I had the cardamon infused coffee, and if you like cardamon this is a great option. Excited to try their other offerings.
I like the vibe of this place. It can get quite busy and it does take time to make the drinks. We put in our orders and walked around the area for a bit. Had the Arabic people latte. I enjoyed it and it was very good. Wish there was a similar cafe in my area. It definitely feels like a great local cafe.

I'm a regular at Tov (rhymes with "stove" and means "good") coffee and Joe and his staff are always terrifically kind. When I don't know what to do with my day, or I have work to catch up on, I go to Tov and go from there. Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. Very enjoyable for someone who normally avoids ice or chewing on ice. read more

On a Saturday:: I was supper excited to get the traditional coffee, but she said they only do that on special occasions? Because it takes too long to do. They offered to put cardamon in my espresso but at that point it's a joke ...As a place that specializes in a specific culture ....and can't offer seems sus. It also took about 15 minutes to get my espresso my cousin got a latte that was just milk she ended up throwing it away. For pastries they had cookies and scones you're better off going somewhere else lol @ the owner read more

Yeah please take your business else where. Negative toxicity is not…
This is seriously some of the best coffee I've ever had. I got the Mermaid latte, a mix of vanilla and caramel flavor with a hint of rose. The caramel taste homemade and while it may not be for everyone it was a bit over cooked giving the otherwise very sweet drink a touch of bitter bite at the end. I truly couldn't get enough and wish I would have gotten a larger cup. The staff was super nice, and even made a solid attempt at my name. While I didn't stay, the shop was lovely and unique with its tables and floor seating. If in the neighborhood, this is a great spot to pause for a bit between the many shops around. This is nothing on the shop, but I always warn when places are in those older parts of town, ie no parking lot and very small congested side streets around. Be care and slow finding parking as it can be a challenge. For me, this shop is worth it. read more

Thank you so much for stopping in. Glad you enjoyed your time and…
Some of the best coffee I've ever had! Came with a friend on a warm summer Saturday and ordered the nectar of the gods iced. It tasted amazing, the cardamom infused espresso is unlike anything I've had before and it blends perfectly well with the milk and their latte flavors. I don't recall exactly what my friend ordered but it was something that normally does not come with the cardamom espresso, but he wanted to try it and and the baristas were friendly and open to making the change for him. The cafe is decorated beautifully with vibrant colors and stunning artwork on the walls. The look is great and matches the Egyptian style drinks perfectly. Good service, good vibes, good drinks, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good coffee in Portland read more

Tov... This Egyptian cafe is a must visit. Joseph, the owner, recently moved into this Egyptian themed storefront cafe recently. Previously, his cafe was located a few blocks west in old parked London double decker bus. Either way, this cafe is memorable both in interiors and coffee experience. To get the true experience at Tov, the Egyptian coffee is a must order. It's brewed in on a hot sand bed that gets up to 300 Deg F. In a single serve tin pot, finely coursed Arabica coffee grinds, cardamom and water is added and mixed. It takes a few minutes for the sand to heat up and the tin cup is moved round the hot sand until it boils. It's then placed on a tray and you have to wait a few minutes for the coffee grinds to settle to the bottom. I wanted my coffee black and unsweetened but some add some sugar cubes or honey and some cream. Then poured into a cup and sipped. Very strong tasting coffee with the spice of cardamom similar to that of an espresso. You'll have to watch out when to stop drinking until you start sipping the coffee grinds. This experience came with a choice of dessert and Egyptian sweet candy. I chose a basbousa cake which is a butter type cake soaked in syrup. A bit sweet for me so I only had a bit. The interior is one to appreciate. It's decked out with early 1900's Egyptian antiques, furniture and photos. The owner here was very friendly and hospitable. I'm looking forward to visiting again one day to experience the London Bus cafe experience. A must visit if you're in this part of Portland. read more

Thank you Elizabeth, it was so nice for you to come in and right…
"Oh we are taking everyone here" I murmured as I took my drink away from my lips. Service at Tōv is unmatched compared to the average Portland cafe. Kind humans will explain the drink list before offering you a place to seat in decadent cushions, stools and booths. Do yourself a favor and order your drink for here- the corresponding cups will be filled to the brim. Flavors of cardamom, caramel, coffee, and mint will consume your sense! We ordered the nectar of the gods and the mint thing with chocolate milk; two of the best beverages I have ever had in Portland or anywhere. We will be back for the "Traditional Egyptian Experience" and more at Tōv! Thank you! read more
Tōv started as a double decker bus in a food cart pod just a few blocks down. They now have this lovely brick and mortar on Hawthorne! It is painted purple outside, wonderfully decorated inside, and smells so good when walking by. It is a great place to chat with friends, but not a great place to work (the tables are quite low and outlets are few). When I visited in late October 2024, much of the menu had strike-throughs in sharpie. Our choices were quite limited. I ordered one of their "year round" specials - for $10 (!!!). Their website pricing is outdated as it lists a much more reasonable $6-7 for the specials. It was a delicious drink, and large at a full 16oz. But I'm not sure I could come back regularly at this price point. Perhaps something I'd save for friends visiting from out of town, or if work is paying, or when I win the lottery. read more
This place is my new crush. I keep coming up with excuses to come here and each time is better than the last! Standouts are the chai latte, which is the best in the city, the homemade soup (I forget the name but it's mostly broth and a leafy veggie and I am hooked), the beautiful seating and awesome music, and the super friendly staff! Highly, highly recommend! read more
Tov Coffee is truly one of the most unique and delicious coffee shops in Portland. They offer Arabic and Egyptian coffee complete with a traditional sand-brewing process. The drinks are decadent and robust, and the owner is incredibly passionate and attentive. I ordered the "Nectar of the Gods". When I tell you this is the best coffee I've ever had... extremely smooth with the perfect amount of punch from the caffeine. The ice cubes are made with crema, a detailed touch. The pastries are delicious. Expect baklava, knefe, and other tasty Middle Eastern treats. Prices are quite high but reflect the quality and care of the establishment. Prepare to pay $9-13 for a beverage and $3-8 for a pastry. This place is great for a special treat, an adventurous coffee lover, or a unique date spot! Parking is a bit difficult during busy times. There is street parking available. It was hard to locate since there is no sign, but look for a purple banner on the outside. read more

I LOVE this place! 100% somewhere I will be bringing visiting family and friends too! So incredibly adorable and decorated, with amazing coffee! They warn of long wait times given the complexity of their drinks but I found it just as quick as any other good shop. This place is right next to the powells on division, across the street from the Baghdad theater, surrounded by shops and with a bus stop right in front. It's so incredibly quirky and so Portland it's the perfect tourist spot, but I loved the coffee too! read more

I learned about Tov through my Portland coffee passport booklet, and was really excited to try it out. I was hoping they were still in a double decker bus, but I guess they've moved into a brick and mortar location. The new location was so fun and unique! The coffee cake was delicious and moist on the inside. The coffee (The Mint Thing) was nice and bitter, though it wasn't very minty at all. read more

Do you have sugar free options?
Hi, we do not but we make vanilla, caramel, mint, vanilla rum, and a seasonal sweet potato marshmallow sauce, all in house.
I'll be visiting PDX in July. I really would like to try your coffee, can't have caffeine. Do you serve decaf? If so, can all the coffee drinks be made with decaf or only a select few? If a few, which ones? Thx!
Hi Yay, Yes we do have decaffeinated beans. All mochas and lattes can be made decaf. Unfortunately…
It's winter! It's freezing! Is there any indoor seating? *Update* Thanks for the answers everyone.…
Yes! So, this is inside a double decker bus. The bottom level is very warm, but seating is limited as that is where the coffee is made. Upstairs is enclosed with a ton of seating and heaters! I wasn't super warm on the top level, but was comfortable.
What is your specialty drink?
Hi Gabe, it's really hard to say what my speciality is but I guess I make a mean Turkish coffee!
