PBJ Fries and Satay Poutine w/ jalapeños and banana peppers
Angela L.

We had heard about the PB&J fries here and had to come and try. We found parking at a lot a block away. The food truck is located in a beer garden with other trucks. There are covered seating areas in the center area, and some smaller seating areas with fire for chilly days. We ordered the PB&J fries and satay poutine with extra jalapeños and banana peppers. For extra sauces, we ordered the rosemary truffle ketchup and curry ketchup on the side. Service was quick. Didn't know what to expect, but the PB&J fries were surprisingly good! The peanut butter is similar to the peanut butter sauce you'd find in Vietnamese cuisine, with a deeper berry jelly flavor that wasn't too sweet and balanced well. The poutine with cheese curds, jalapeños, banana peppers was good as well! Umami to the max, and had a good contrast and flavor and texture with the spicy and sour pickled additions. The raspberry truffle ketchup and curry ketchup paired well with both fries. This was a savory, umami bomb. Fun to try!

Satay Poutine Fries

This business has always caught my eye as I am an avid potato lover. There was a few orders before and after me, but the service was friendly and prompt! I ordered the Satay Poutine Fries and it tasted exactly as you'd expect it from the description! I do recommend eating them quickly as if you wait, the fries obviously get soggy. Definitely a great potato fix and cute little spot to eat at since there's other food carts around and ample seating! We took our food to go, but did recognize quite a few bees around (I know that would've made me rush if I ate there).

Poutine w/ beef gravy

My friends and I decided to take a quick roadtrip to Portland. One of my mates found Cartopia Food Carts so we decided to give it a try. After a quick stroll, I decided on Potato Champion. Poutine on their menu board immediately stood out to me. I've heard so much about this Canadian dish, so I decided to give it a try. There is a choice of beef or vegetarian gravy. Being the carnivore that I am, I decided on the beef gravy. This dish is what I expected. Skin-on shoestring French fries drizzled in beef gravy topped with cheese curds. It's a satisfying no frills quick bite. There is plenty of seating here, some are picnic table style but there is limited seating around a fire. Service was quick and friendly. You get handed a buzzer after you order so you're free to explore Cartopia some more.

Palak paneer fries

Jan18,2025 review: I tried something very unique here, for the first time in my life- palak paneer fries. Lot of palak gravy spreaded over grilled paneer and fries. Portion size is huge, definitely recommend sharing this. If you are familiar with palak paneer curry taste- it would taste just like that. Only difference is instead of Naan/roti, in this form you are eating with crispy fries. Photo was clicked in night so the best click but just for reference.

I used to live in Portland--I left in 2012--but always try to hit up Cartopia when I visit. PC is a standard for me--I always get either the beef poutine, the PB&J fries, or both. The price increases hit a brotha hard (inflation, yo), but the quality of the food remains superb. We visited Thursday, 27 March, right at opening, and the service and food were sublime. I miss this place so much.

I understand the PBJ fries were novelty but they were just average to me. It had flavor and spice but it's not something I'd order again. I'd recommend people to try for themselves and I may come back to try something else when I'm in town but I wasn't blown away. Not too good and not too bad.

Satay Poutine
Tannu S.

Fries elevated. Fries could be more than a side and that's this place is all about. I have tried poutine, satay poutine and palak paneer version. All three as vegetarian option and were good. The portions size is huge and good for sharing. The service is quick and ambiance is casual as it can get with community seating, cozy with fire. They are open until late. If you are craving for a twist on a fries, this is the place to be.

Pulled Pork Fries

Hey. Do you want some fries with that sodium? That pretty much sums up the food experience at this food cart. I honestly wished I had a similar experience as the other reviewers but was disappointed once again :( FOOD As the intro suggests, the food here was extremely salty. We got the pulled pork fries for the night. The fries themselves tasted like they were refried multiple times. Some were extremely crunchy while others were soggy. The pulled pork itself tasted pretty decent but omg, it was sooooo salty. For every bite, we had to take couple sips of water to neutralize the saltiness. If you're someone who enjoy a heavy salt meal, then this place IS for you. Otherwise, I'd suggest to go elsewhere. SERVICE service it self was quite nice. The cart worker was extremely nice and very a pretty chill person. I think the service helped to make this review a 2 star ALL IN ALL, the restaurant in my opinion is just meh. The service, location, and vibe made it a nice visit but the food was definitely a disappointment of our night

I was not a fan. I love poutine, but this place did not satisfy my cravings. Not sure if it was because I came on a rainy afternoon, but the fries were cold and the gravy was gelatinous. The cheese curds were the texture of firm tofu and did not melt on the fries at all. It was practically rubbery. The poutine had a lot of potential though. The fries was seasoned well and the gravy was very flavorful. Maybe it was my mistake for coming on a cold day and the poutine was affected by the weather... but it was not enjoyable. Possibly I will give this food cart another chance during a sunny day.

If you're looking for upscale, tasty fries, this is the place! Fresh fried potatoes (large portions) with a variety of toppings and side sauce choices. We love the satay sauce and the pesto mayo is fantastic. We tried the paneer special today and it was good but we still loved the satay best. The college kid has soft spot for the poutine fries (little much for me) and says they're better than in Vancouver. Well worth the stop if you're in Portland!

Really friendly and quick service. Everything was fresh, good fries and curds were melty. Can't really justify the price though. Gravy definitely has a slightly different flavor but I think it worked!

Just got the classic poutine as I was craving it. I love how much gravy they drench it in! For the price, I do wish they added a bit more fries; I feel like I was cut short, haha. Service was good too, and ambiance was cute since it's in a food truck plaza. Will definitely come back to try their special poutines!

I came after a review I read on Eater for FoPo area eats. I'm not a huge fried food fan but this place was good. I got the Steelhead trout fish and chips. Wait was ok they give you a buzzer so you can stroll around the food court. Took about 10 mins not bad. The locally sourced steelhead was a delicious surprise. Tender, juicy fish with crispy breading. Good seasoning. Fries were thicker so not as crispy but still hearty. 3 medium sized pieces of fish. They included ketchup for the fries as well as malt vinegar and tartar sauce for authentic fish dip. Wedge of lemon, too! All in a earth-friendly cardboard box. They take credit just fine. Very convenient location at Carts on Foster just down the street from where I was staying. So I walked back and enjoyed there. If you're staying you could probably cruise over to any local breweries or the bar cart for a beer to complement the fried food. Good time!!!

I feel like later I got a piece of tarragon(?) out of my teeth and reminded me of the herby yummy sauce. I scoffed at first at the chips. Very non uniformly cut but surprisingly all well cooked. I don't know if it's they type of potato but the skin was really off putting. But solid toothsome chips that a splash of vinegar helps a lot. If I end up in a similar position again I'll definitely consider coming back.

The food truck is located inside a food truck plaza with plenty of options nearby and ample outdoor seating with picnic tables. This particular food truck had a long line, which made the wait to order a bit lengthy. However, it was well worth it. The woman taking orders was incredibly kind and bubbly, which added to the overall experience. After ordering, the food took about 20 minutes to come out, but I did not mind since the sandwiches ended up being really good. The sandwiches were flavorful and very filling. Honestly, I probably could have been satisfied with just one sandwich. Overall, I thought this spot was worth the wait. I would definitely come back if I were in Portland again.

The line ended up being pretty long around 3pm on a Saturday (they close at 3:30pm) and between ordering and getting our food, we waited about 30 min. I did really like the sando though. The scotch egg was nicely fried and crispy on the outside with a soft gyoza stuffing filling. My only wish is that it was a bit easier to eat and that it had more seasoning as the gyoza filling was a bit bland and the egg smaller than I thought it was be. But overall pretty tasty and definitely worth trying. I'll have to come back and try their OG Tokyo Nando sandwich.
